On the Grid : Tacofino

"Vancouver has an inexplicably high number of Mexican restaurants, and Gastown has a big share of 'em. There are only three worth mentioning in this hood (and only two for the food). Tacofino is the latest offering on the block. It’s really two restaurants in one. The Cordova St. side is a take-out burrito bar. Great if you need a delicious quick-fix. If you want the sit-down Tacofino experience, you’ll want to go around back into the ominous-sounding Blood Alley entrance. Tacos are the star of the show here. Get at least two with an order of nachos or dips for the table. If it's a weekend, get on the list early, then go for a drink around the corner. They'll send you a text when your table is ready." - Louder Than Ten

"This urban icon started as a hippie food truck housed in a surf shop parking lot on Vancouver Island. It has since blossomed into three restaurants, two burrito bars, a taco joint, and two food trucks, located everywhere from Hastings-Sunrise and Yaletown to Gastown and the Financial District. Chef Stefan Hartmann, who once ran a Michelin-starred restaurant in Berlin, now captains these elevated spots along with founder Jason Sussman. Expect nuanced options like chorizo-kale, pork al pastor with pineapple, and chicken with pickled vegetables, all on soft wheat tortillas for six to seven dollars. Also noteworthy are the meat-free dishes like “vegetable scrapple”—a delicious fritter of squash and chickpeas, topped with herbed tomatoes. And don’t overlook the octopus tostada—Tacofino not only sources seafood sustainably but also participates in Vancouver’s Climate Smart program and is working toward being a zero-waste business."

Cool taco restaurant with a super-cool white neon taco-sign outside in the back alley entrance! There are several branches but it was the neon sign that drew me to this location. It’s a nice relaxed vibe with lots of seating; there’s also a large bar with counter seating- great for solo diners. And there’s a large deck with seating outside. The food was sensational; the Nachos was amazing and has a modern twist. The tacos were all fantastic, but it was the “El Gringo” that was the hero dish! Wow. Service was nice and friendly and helpful. Perfect spot for a casual but delicious lunch or dinner. Highly recommended!

As a taco lover, I'm always looking for new taco place to try out. As I was in Vancouver for a quick business trip, I figured I'd try out this place, which is the first one to pop up. I definitely don't regret coming here. Lucas served me incredibly well. The wait time was short and the ambiance was great. I definitely reccomend this place for those who like to eat healthy, while enjoying a nicely crafted drink on the side. Note to self: the churros and the dip it came with made my whole month.

Google
The Tacofino is Blood Alley has a very cute little tucked away patio. Great to enjoy on a casual evening out. The tacos were very flavourful, cocktails delicious, and service was very good!

Came on a Monday afternoon and the patio was completely empty. I tried their pineapple cinnamon margarita - it was amazing! Good tacos as well - we tried fish, chicken and pork. Loved the pineapple in the pork taco and fried chicken was great as well. Fish needed a little more flavor. Overall, good experience.

My husband and I went here today. We ordered the nachos and chicken wings to start; the nachos were absolutely delicious 🤤 and my husband liked the chicken wings. However, the tacos left much to be desired. The chicken tacos I ordered were drenched in grease. I let the waitress know, and she was understanding. My husband ordered the pork gringa and chorizo tacos, and he felt they weren't anything special. We had tacos from Tacofino in Tofino and they were AMAZING so we thought they would taste just as great here but it was a disappointing 😕 experience. Unfortunately, I wouldn't go back to this location.

Our visit to Tacofino Taco Bar was fantastic as always. The food was delicious, the atmosphere vibrant, and the staff friendly and attentive. Each dish we ordered was bursting with flavor, showcasing the fresh ingredients and creative combinations that Tacofino is known for. The casual, lively ambiance made it a perfect spot to unwind and enjoy a great meal. Sadly, we learned that the Gastown location will be closing on August 18. This location has been a staple in the community, offering not just amazing tacos but also a welcoming place to gather with friends and family. If you haven’t had the chance to experience this gem yet, make sure to visit before it’s gone. It’s a bittersweet farewell to a place that has brought so much joy and culinary delight to so many. Don’t miss out on your last chance to enjoy Tacofino Taco Bar in Gastown!

Google
Came here for lunch over the long weekend. It was not too busy, we chose to sit inside at one of the high top tables. Nice atmosphere and cute decor. I got the mango arbol margarita to drink, it was delicious, sweet with a little bit of a spicy kick! To eat I got the fish, eggplant and crispy oyster mushroom. The mushroom was my favourite out of the 3, the eggplant is a bit messy since it's one big chunk, probably would be better and easier to eat if cut into smaller pieces but the flavours were good. My boyfriend got the chicken and steak tacos. He did not really enjoy the steak taco, he said it was a little dry. If I ever visit Vancouver again I will definitely come back and also would like to try their burrito bar.

Google
I can’t say enough about their Tacos. Everything that we got was so amazing and delicious. We’ve got fish Tacos, chicken Crispy Tacos, eggplant taco, Mushroom and avocado tacos, and steak one. The steak one wasn’t our favorite that much but the rest was perfect. Also try their house Kombucha. Definitely recommend!

Yelp
I must preface this review by stating I absolutely love Mexican food. The restaurant was pretty empty at noon when we were there, but it was clean. I wasn't blown away by the ambiance but the key is the food... The guacamole and chips were both delicious. Lots of flavour and worth ordering. Not the best guac I ever had, but really very good. The steak taco however...wow! . The texture, flavour, size of it, all of it really quite a festival of fun for my mouth. One of the best tacos I've had (I've eaten lots of tacos) Based on the food, I'll definitely be back. One unfortunate drawback and sad part of this location is the large number of homeless people and drug users openly doing so, just a block away which we walked through. If you are walking from the water side this is mostly avoided. If coming from the canucks arena side it's hard to avoid. Just wanted to share in case some people aren't comfortable especially if coming at night.

Yelp
Food: pretty good, but on the pricey side. I'm not impressed with the happy hour menu. Would rather go to the other locations. The lamb taco was my favourite. Be prepared to spend 40-50$ on food and drinks. They only serve tacos on one side and burritos on the smaller side. This is silly. Service: While the server was polite, she wasn't very attentive. I was rather disappointed at how long it took us to get our bills. Ambiance: on the casual side. I'm okay with it, but I'm not overly impressed. Overall, I do not want to come back.

Yelp
A very cute place to eat! The decor and aesthetic of this place is very pleasing. They are extremely clean (which I love) and servers are very kind. We ordered off the happy hour menu and got the valentina butter wings, smoked tuna tosadas, and some very good margaritas. Their wings are to die for, very delicious. If you aren't a spicy fan, don't dip it in the sauce, wings are seasoned great without them! Margaritas were strong, the apple cinnamon one was a huge hit at the table. We would definitely get those again if we lived in the area. Overall, I would say that prices were a little high. Even for CAD (we live in the US). But, I would definitely give this place a stop at least once if you've never been.

Yelp
Sucks this place doesn't get the best reviews, I actually really enjoyed it. It is over priced but the tacos were good. I got Steak Taco and chicken taco and both had great flavor. My husband enjoyed it too. Our server was awesome and friendly. Place wasn't too crowded at all for an early lunch.

Yelp
It has been a couple times since I've come here, but all before the pandemic and the line up were huge, so I've always decided to just go across the way to Gringo. I finally got a seat this time around with my friend since re-open seating at restaurants and during HAPPY HOUR!! Yeah, their Happy Hour menu wasn't the best compared to other places I have been, but it was the only time to get us seats. Maybe it is a pro? idk. Regardless, me and my friend haven't seen each other for 2 years and chose this to be our meeting place for the night. We made it for happy hour and got some drinks and tacos for the night! I ordered a Horchata Margarita, and dayum. I love a horchata, but spiked with a little tequila makes it SOOOO MUCH BETTER. Maybe a little bit too dangerous. And then we got a side of their albacore ceviche and well, I wanted it to be a bit more vinegary because I love a good sour ceviche. We might have ordered TOO much tacos because I was not expecting their tacos to be STACKKED full of fillings. We ordered 3 each, and that was just too much..... I recommend the 2 is enough to make you satisfied. I ordered their famous fish taco, which made them THE TACOFINO. On top of that, I ordered the Pork Al Pastor and the Octopus Tostada. Their fish taco is always a staple with them. The fish is perfectly crunchy with each bite, and refreshing with that mix of the tomatoes of their salsa fresca. The Pork Al Pastor is just stewed to perfection. And heavy on flavour, but the pineapples just cut the heaviness with acidity. I was SOOOO surprised with their Octopus Tostada. HOLY COW! This was a bomb though. By the time i was biting into the 3rd taco I was extremely full, but this just made me want to finish it! All 3 tacos deserved the clean plate club for sure. Will be coming back for sure with friends as the pandemic eases up and I hope it won't get as busy as it used to be.

Yelp
OMG... who is writing all these reviews? I'm sure most people who go there, vow never to return. The staff, it was like their first day on the job, with no training. You have to stand in front of the cash register to order your food. The staff is trying to cut between you and the cash register to pick up and deliver orders. Not well thought out. The food was very below average, but cheap. Do not go there on a date. Just don't!
google avatar

Yelp
A must try YouTube recommendation. The horchata margarita was unique and delicious. The fish taco was nice and flaky and crunchy at the same time. The meat in the chicken taco was marinated very nicely but the batter was not very crispy. The albacore tuna crevice was very fresh and tasty with lots of lime flavor. Another hit recommendation. Service was excellent.

Yelp
Loved my fish taco here, was exactly what I was looking for. Peaceful outdoor patio, too. Perfect for a quick lunch!

Yelp
Place was a lil hard to find if you don't know where you're going and I definitely wouldn't want to find it in the dark. I had the fish taco (yummy) and a classic Margherita (it was ok, wish I'd tried the other fruity ones ) fortunately there was a Monday 'Marg' special that had 3$ off on all margs or I would've been quite unhappy paying 12.50 for a drink I didn't particularly like Brother had 2 rounds of the pork al pastore which he loved and the quessa birria (lamb quesadilla) - I tried them as well and I can attest they were tasty. He also had 2 pints of one their lagers on tap at 7.50 each . Our server was a delight and that really helped up the overall experience . Nice interiors, bathroom: strictly ok - I am not impressed - and I am very particular about that ! Especially if it smells clean or not . It didn't . Would've taken a star off for that but my brother loved the place so it stays on for his sake Good first experience. Might try one of their other locations.

Yelp
Amazing happy hour deal everyday until 6pm! The smoked tuna tostado was soooo good. Friendly service and amazing vibes -- didn't sit on the patio but it's such a hidden paradise in Gastown

Yelp
Amazed this place doesn't have more stars. We absolutely loved our meal - from the guacamole to the tacos, everything was fresh and delicious! Our server was gracious & attentive. Love this place, patio in particular.

Yelp
Ordered from x-dine, showed up at the time it was to be ready and two completely baked dudes working there told me they had screwed up and didn't even have it. They seemed high on acid. I repeated my order 3 times, showed them the receipt and they said they would put a "rush" on it. There was no manager. Just a bunch of burnouts working at the Yaletown restaurant. I waited a half hour. Standing by to see how bad the food looks and..... they didn't mess it up like the last time. Just a disaster down there for staff and the food is getting worse and worse.
google avatar

Yelp
Great! Loved the service, our server made our experience. She was so bubbly and funny, helped with drink and food selections and always made sure our glasses were full. I got the Oyster mushroom taco with kimchi, it was so delicious I ended up ordering it twice. Still dreaming of this taco. Well done Tacofino.
google avatar

Ally S.

Yelp
Got the crispy chicken, steak and eggplant Crispy chicken: you get huge pieces of chicken. The sauce was good and the veggies were fresh and added a good crunch. Eggplant: this was my favourite. The texture the peanuts added was great. The flavour overall worked so well together. Steak: overall it tasted good, but the steak was a bit chewy and it would have been nice if the pieces were smaller. Got the pomegranate sage margarita and it was tasty. I liked whatever was on the rim, but it could've used a sweet note.

Yelp
Food was great. Not too far from the hotel and it hit the spot with fresh ingredients in the shrimp tacos and the Kimchi tacos. Excellent.

Yelp
Fish tacos and carnitas are our favourite! Their happy hour is a great atmosphere and drinks.

Yelp
This place deserves a 4 stars but I cut out a star due to service! Great margaritas Great vibe Good location and space Limited items on menu but they cook everything there really well! My beef with them is their lack of willingness to accommodate! I don't eat pork and the nacho meat options they had was only pork! I said I was willing to pay extra to have steak added to the nachos! They outright refused to add it! Even though I said I would pay whatever it cost! Long story short, I had to improvise! I ordered steak tacos on the side and took the steak from my taco to add it to my nachos! And I looked at the server and said, see I solved my own problem! What a waste had they just done that for me! Oh well! Crappy service! Limited but delicious food! They need better chefs and servers that accommodate and care! Oh and I asked tor some hot sauce and they charged me for open bar food item! Wow! Little cray cray in my opinion!

Yelp
I love this restaurant. Beautiful interior and service is always friendly. I was there last weekend and had two delicious tacos (fish and fried chicken) as well as a great strawberry-basil margarita. My only small complaint is that it gets quite loud here in the evening - the modern interior and wooden booth mean there is no sound absorption. (I'd love to see noise-dampening panels on the walls or ceilings which might help, or even more cushions.) Definitely worth a visit, one of the best spots in Gastown!

Yelp
Do you want to know why there are no photos of burritos in the reviews? Because anyone who gets one loses all self control after the first bite. Despite ordering chicken and fish burritos last night at 11pm and having every intent of posting a picture of them to support this review and this community, I don't have a photo because, like other patrons, an animalistic mentality overwhelmed my sense of self control once I took the first bite of the chicken burrito. The tenderness of the breaded chicken, the texture of the tortilla and flavor of the sauces used to compliment it took hold of me like a Darth Vader force choke. In those moments, you don't ask questions. You submit to the overwhelming power of the dark side and take a trip to hammer town. Maybe it was a variation of a food coma or simply shock from having found such a noteworthy burrito so far north of our southern friends responsible for this incredible dish, but I sat looking at an empty plate before me with pure delight and gratitude. Well done, Tacofino. I applaud you for what you have done here. Not only did you nourish me to ultimate satisfaction, you have also given me hope that quality mexican cuisine is very much within arms reach in Vancouver - even in the late hours of the evening. I shall return as soon as I can. God bless you and goodnight.

Yelp
Parking in the downtown east side is always a challenge when visiting this East Hastings Tacofino location. You see the news reports and read the articles on how our form of governances are trying to revitalize this area for the businesses who are struggling. But boy oh boy the East Hasting Downtown eastside for Tacofino is definitely feeling the effects of this area. This restaurant used to be a place where I would always suggest for staff parties, get together with friends and everyone would always look forward to their food truck visiting our community. A recent visit here I was quite taken back in how filthy and dirty this restaurant has become. The floors and walls are completely black and seems worthy of a visit and investigation from Fraser Health. In disbelief I walked around the restaurant and used their bathroom, had to use the handicap one cause a wooden ladder was blocking the entrance to the other bathrooms. Thought to my self if the floors are this black and filthy I could just imagine how dirty their air ducts and kitchen is. We can only wish the staff the best and this restaurant on a recovery who is feeling the sad effects and energy of the downtown eastside.

Yelp
What makes Tacofino in general so memorable, is that the dishes are unique to the neighbourhood which each restaurant resides in. This Tacofino location is particularly my favourite. I can never get enough of their crispy chicken tacos. There is the perfect amount of crunch and zesty zing. If you're looking to add a sharable to the table, I highly recommend their nachos (with guac of course).
google avatar

Luke Y.

Yelp
Price/quality (3/4): There are some interesting items on the menu, such as the lamb taco and the steak taco, which are both quite tasty. However, some of their other tacos (e.g. eggplant) aren't as flavourful as they could be, despite the fancy-looking presentation. The hot sauce bottles provided also don't pack nearly enough heat to cover that. Other options, such as the nachos, are worth trying too, and the Cordova Street side sells tacos and burritos to go. The burritos are not available for dine-in unfortunately, though many of them are quite tasty. Service (1/1): Service is friendly and effective. Would I come here again: Yes
google avatar

Ange E.

Yelp
The pork al pastor was my favourite that we tried, but also had the pork gringa and fish tacos which we pretty good too. I also liked how they had kombucha cans as well.
google avatar

Nolan R.

Yelp
Great food as always! The nachos had a really a really nice cream sauce on them in addition to the cheese and other toppings, very tasty! Also the distribution of the toppings was on point, even the last chip had lots of toppings on it. The fish taco was tasty, I've had better from them before. I think it was because there was not quite enough sauce for my standards. But I like lots of sauce so it could just be me. Service was quick and friendly. There was one person who tried to come in without a mask who started to create a scene and even smacked and broke the hand sanitizer bottle. The staff dealt with the situation quickly and professionally. They didn't make a big deal out of it and they didn't even skip a beat. Very well done.
google avatar

Yelp
March 30/19; Wow! Working strictly on the taste here this was an awesome Taco! Right flavour...right crispiness...just down right delicious! The taco shell was a soft taco but a little crispy around the edges just the way I like. This is a definite do-over, next time I'd make my meal this place.

Yelp
One line review: decent taste (if not super authentic), a bit pricey. Since we're new to the city, our friends wanted to take us bicycle riding at the seawall and for tacos at Tacofino. That made for a pretty good day. When we arrived on a Friday evening at about 6, the place was hopping and the wait was 45 minutes. So we signed in and went for a walk. When we got back, we were seated immediately. The restaurant was somewhat dimly lit and LOUD. Not a place for an intimate dinner; better for a night out with friends, which is what we were doing. Our server was pleasant and helpful, but she was moving quickly. For my family of 3, we ordered 6 tacos and a plate of nachos to share. The nachos were tasty but overpriced; there just want much food there for $17-18. The tacos varied from generous (the fried fish and crispy chicken) to adequate (the pork pastor and other pork option); okay value at about $7 each. Taste was good, though not spicy hot. Don't know about parking, as we walked, but best guess is that you're paying for it somewhere. Bottom line: Food was tasty, so I'd do this again, but value was so-so, do I'm not rushing to get back. YMMV.

Yelp
When hipster meets taco, you've got the perfect combination that is Tacofino. This bumping taco restaurant has fun decoration, young crowds, and a plethora of seating yet still managed to have a crowd of people awaiting to experience the delicious food. All in all, when we arrived, I knew I had chosen the right restaurant to try in Gas Town. We ended up entering from the Take Out side of the restaurant which is an easy way to carry out their unique food. The main entrance is from an alley way that passes their patio outdoor seating on the way inside. We were seated on the patio as my sister and I were hungry and did not want to wait the hour for indoor seating. The weather was nice, and the atmosphere both inside and outside was very vibrant. We started with drinks, and I ordered their mojito which was refreshing and not overpowered by the alcohol. My sister ordered the nachos which I ended up taking over because it was absolutely delicious and huge. It was unique with feta cheese and a crema dressing and worth trying. I also ordered the Crispy Chicken taco which similar to the nachos was unique in the flavors with pickled vegetables and very enjoyable. This is a restaurant I would recommend to those visiting Vancouver as it has an exciting environment and great food.

Yelp
A coworker used to rave about Tacofino during her annual Tofino visits, and I was finally able to give it a try when they opened their food truck here. I remember it being a really solid meal, so when a friend moved out to Vancouver, I felt it was necessary to pass the recommendation along. We picked a sit down location versus one of their food truck locations, mainly so we could be seated comfortably and enjoy our meal in leisure. We started off with the nachos (generous portion size with ample toppings. There is nothing I hate more than having a bunch of plain chips left at the end. I probably could've had just the nachos for lunch; it was that filling) and queso fundido (good taste with a hint of spice; I don't really do spicy but found this tolerable). I felt obligated to order a taco while at Tacofino, but those nachos were seriously filling and it actually wasn't as great as I expected. The fish was heavily breaded to the point where there were parts that was more bread than fish, however, that was my only complaint; it was fine otherwise. No wifi, which sucks. Fast, friendly service.

Yelp
Apparently you can't be a Vancouverite if you don't try Tacofino. So my girlfriend brought me here. She said it is a popular place and when we came in it definitely was busy! However, we didn't have to wait too long which was nice. I had the Corn and Cauliflower Taco and the Fish Taco! They were awesome and a lot bigger than I was expecting! I love that real corn tortilla and you can taste that it is fresh. I got some wine and it came in a strange glass that reminded me of a rocks glass. Not so sure about that. The rest of the decor is gorgeous! It looks very fresh and inviting! I love the use of the plants in the space and the bar area is very cool. We had really great service! I would probably come back!

Yelp
Pretty good vegetarian tacos, could have larger proportions.

Yelp
Great bartender, horrible music so it sounds like there are many people there. This just was not the place for me. The guacamole and chips were good and hould be for the price. It was the best dish otherwise the food is not good. They don't say they fry the chicken so it is fried chicken in a taco yuck. The steak taco was just ok. The nachos were just topped with thin sauce. The server said all of the ingredients are on the nachos...yes, most feta on top and the rest was skimmpy to save money. The moment I realized I did not like the food they said can we get you the check? Yes, please. I also do not like the neighborhood as I waited for the car to pick me up I saw 4 rats coming out of a hole in the sidewalk.

Yelp
had a look at trip advisor and was keen because of f the Fish taco reviews! BUT the legend Brandi suggested we try quesa barria tacos - legit! the were amazing!! I have just signed up to yelp purely to praise the service and food at Gastown Tacofinos! Brandi was more than welcoming and knowledgeable! can't thank her enough for a wonderful date night with my bestie :)

Came on a Monday afternoon and the patio was completely empty. I tried their pineapple cinnamon margarita - it was amazing! Good tacos as well - we tried fish, chicken and pork. Yelp
Frequently go to Tacofino for lunch. I've had the Chicken and the Fish tacos so far. Consistently good every time I've been. Chicken has great texture and juicy skin. Fish is moist and flavorful.

Yelp
Out of all the places I've been to Tacofino still has my favorite waygu steak taco! No place makes it better than theirs!! Super mouth-watering-melting steak paired with pineapple that gives it a fresh taste each bite Also decided to try out another flavor this time, got their Squash taco, crispy touch to it with yummy caramelized squash on top of a bed of hummus, a sweet healthy alternative! Can't forget about their chips n' dip! You get to choose 3 flavors with it as well! I always get their guac, tomato fresca and roasted chickpea --these are my absolute go to when I'm dining there!

Yelp
Tried this place out a few weeks ago. My friends and I all enjoyed the tacos we ordered; however I'd say that it is quite expensive considering the portion size. Each individual taco ranges from $6-$11 for pretty standard/small tacos. While the quality is good, it is pretty easy to find cheaper tacos that taste as good or even better than this place.
google avatar

Yelp
Thanks to a very generous giveaway, I was able to participate in the TacofinoxBeta5 collaboration summer social! Part of this giveaway was the choice of a taco and i chose the fish taco since I heard it was a fan favourite. I really enjoyed this even though I don't really like fried foods. Yes, there was a bit too much batter for me but it tasted SO GOOD. The chipotle aioli on top of freshly fried fish, topped with slaw and tomato salsa was refreshing but delicious at the same time. I really liked the taco shell itself too as it wasn't too chewy but held up against the semi wet ingredients! One taco didnt seem like a lot at first but i was actually really full after finishing it! Overall, this will not be my last time at Tacofino!

Yelp
Big and spacious place for meet ups with friends or dates! I like how there are 2 areas - the takeout area, and the dine-in areas. The takeout area also has small seatings to eat or wait for your food. My friend and I were at the dine-in and we both really enjoyed the vibrant atmosphere of this place. We came during happy hour so we both got drinks - I got the spicy watermelons margarita and woah! Was it spicy and strong! I loved it! The tacos are filling but also delicious ! I ended up getting 2 fish tacos, and a chorizo taco. They each had their own flavour because at some taco joints, all tacos taste the same. The chorizo had kale and feta cheese and I've never been a kale person but I wanted more! Probably the best fish taco in Vancouver! The fish pieces were both big, crunchy, and soft - I liked that they had tomatoes because it added a very unique flavour to the dish! Would definitely come back for more!

Yelp
Tacofino is a hit or miss for me usually with the food and service. Sometimes the servers are quite rude but at times they're okay, never had a great service there. However for food the nachos are always a hit, they load it up with salsa, cheese and chorizo (extra) and the chips are super crunchy! For tacos I usually get a combination of fish taco, steak, ahi tuna or cauliflower. Usually it's good but sometimes there's too much sauce and the tortilla gets soggy and breaks while you're eating it. Nonetheless a great causal place if you just want to hang with your friends on the weekend .

Yelp
We got take-out from Tacofino and pretty much wrote off the entire meal. We had the fish burrito, which I was told contained fried cod. There was almost no fish in the burrito, let alone the rich, crispy fried cod we were craving. Most of the burrito was beans, cabbage, and other unidentifiable greens. Interesting spicing was lacking. Blah. In addition, we ordered the chips and guacamole, also seriously deficient. The avocado in the guacamole was overwhelmed by citrus. Even worse, the avocado tasted of preservatives. Tortilla chips should be delicately crisp and fresh fried from triangles of your leftover tortillas. These were tough, not freshly made, and not especially tasty. I give Tacofino two stars because the counter staff was really nice. The food gets one star.

Yelp
You know those kind of meals where you don't even realize you're hungry until you sit down and have a bite? That's how I felt about Tacofino. It was around noon-1 pm and my mind was deep in thought as my +1 and I sat down for our midday meal. After the plate of chips and guac were brought to the table and we each had a taste, we both realized we were famished. Rather than order everything on the menu, we exercised restraint and each ordered two tacos in addition to our appetizer of homemade chips and several dips, including a surprisingly awesome black bean variety. Tacofino's tacos are much bigger than the street tacos one might find in California or in parts of Mexico. That doesn't make them any less tasty, just pointing out that two of these bad boys is plenty, even for two hungry ladies. I had a steak taco and a crispy chicken taco. My +1 had two red chorizo tacos. Also, I enjoyed a grapefruit Jarritos soda. No food was left behind at this meal. We came, we ate, we conquered. And I would be happy to return when visited Vancity again.

Yelp
This is real find. I had the the red chorizo taco & the pork al pastor taco. This was best tasting taco I have ever had ! We are from So. Cal and have eaten many tacos. This is not your regular Mexican Food. This is a real gourmet experience. The location is on an alley way and doesn't look like much from the outside. But the food was incredible. Our waitress Bianca , was very pleasant , helpful and knowledgeable about their menu. The service was great. A rare thing in this post COVID world. This is not a fancy place but the food is great and prices are reasonable.

Yelp
I want to love this place but it is a bit weird. A tiny door front with take away service leads to this large loud boisterous restaurant. We were surprised at the amount of people here. It was loud. We snagged seats at the bar and ordered mediocre margaritas. Then we perused the taco menu and dug in. My eggplant taco was delicious. It was spicy with lots of cilantro and no salsa required. It was encrusted with peanuts on a kale slaw with lime crème. I should have had two. Spouse went for the Burrard taco which was lamb. He rated it 7 out of 10 because it was rather dry. Who doesn't love creative street tacos? Glad we went, wouldn't return unless midday with no crowds.

Yelp
I absolutely loooove tacofino, we buy it all the time BUT We went and sat at the Gastown Patio last night for my birthday and our served basically ignored us all night :( we literally had to 'sorry, excuse me' a member of staff for every single thing we wanted to order. Also waited 30 mins with empty glasses at the end hoping to be asked if we wanted to order birthday desert but gave up and just went inside to ASK to pay ... food great, service really poor.

Yelp
I really enjoyed the food and friendly service! I had the fish taco (which was amazing! ) and the nachos! I think I should of added the guacamole or chipotle but still very tasty! Will definitely come back!

Yelp
Tacofino rarely disappoints. I got a taco and a burrito, and I thoroughly enjoyed both. Eggplant Burrito (5/5) This was really good. I loved the sriracha mayo and the eggplants and chickpeas in the tomato sauce were cooked perfectly. The broccoli tempura was super flavourful as well. The rice was a little hard though, and I wish there were more greens and less rice, but overall it was delicious. Squash Taco (4.5/5) This was so creative! I loved how they did squash three ways. My favourite part was the kabocha squash tempura, as I found the spaghetti squash fritter a little strange in texture and flavour. The butternut squash puree was nice, but the pickled poblano peppers didn't work very well with the other components.

Yelp
Tacofino was conveniently located down the street from where my fiance and I were staying on our visit to Vancouver. This place has been the ideal place for a quick late night snack even during our short visit here. We weren't able to dine-in, and ordered take-out each visit. As being creatures of habit, we found ourselves ordering the same items: 1. Crispy chicken burrito - Each bite of this burrito reminded me of panda express. The fried chicken resembled that of a lighter and less sweet orange chicken, although my fiance didn't think so. Filled with other delicious ingredients like shredded pickled cabbage and rice, this was definitely hearty. (I brought some back for friends and they also loved it). 2. Chicken tacos - Pretty much the taco version of the burrito. 3. Fish Tacos - This was definitely our favorite! 3. Chorizo Taco - Our least favorite, didn't re-order.

Yelp
Tried a variety of their tacos: Eggplant, their well-known Fish Tacos, Lamb, and a couple Gringas. The lamb was the most disappointing (a bit dry and lacked flavour). The gringas weren't as toasted golden or rimming with crispy cheese as I remembered the ORIGINAL tacofino truck in Tofino had, but still tasted good.

Yelp
This place has taken the Gastown scene by storm, and I totally get it because who doesn't love tacos? I definitely needed to try it out. We got there on a Thursday night around 6pm, and it was bustling. The layout is also a little confusing because the main entrance is for the to-go portion, and you have to walk down a hallway to the other end of the restaurant to be seated. There's no signs to tell you this, I guess they just expect you to figure it out on your own? Although you can't make reservations here (sad times), their system for writing your name down is super cool because they take down your number and text you a link to nowait, which is a service that tells you how many guests are ahead of you before you get a table. This was awesome because you can walk around Gastown while you wait. Once we got seated, we decided to order the nachos (with guac, obviously) to share, and I ordered a crispy chicken taco and a mushroom quesadilla as well. The nachos were probably the best I've ever had so I HIGHLY recommend them. And they're huge so you can share them (there were 4 of us and we still had some left over). The chicken tacos were SO good too. Yes, they're $6 for one taco which seems like a lot, but it's quite a substantial amount of chicken and filling so it was well worth it. The mushroom quesadilla wasn't my favourite, but oh well. The only negatives I really had here was that the service was a little slow, the music was WAY too loud, and I wish the menu had more of a variety and greater options for customizaions. That being said, everything else was fantastic so I'll definitely be coming back here, especially to try their churros!
