The 13 Best Restaurants In Tacoma 2024

"Fancy pizza is having a moment in Tacoma: there are new shops like Apizza and Italy Paola Pizza Napoletana, but the best of the bunch just might be Tacoma Pie. The pizza here is intense: one slice of the thick, square, Detroit-style pies could be a full meal. The crust is fluffy, the frico is tall, and the sauce has a spicy kick. You can get it delivered, but it’s way more fun to dine in with the pinball machines and a breezy outdoor space with a bocce court. If you see their banana bread pudding in the pizza warmer, get it." - meg van huygen

This pizza place in Tacoma is a hidden gem! The reviews are spot on. The food is delicious, but the real stars are the staff. They’re incredibly friendly and accommodating, taking our order quickly and making sure we had everything we needed. They’re also very attentive, making sure we had a great experience. Thanks to everyone at this place for the excellent service!

The wife & I decided to try this place the day before Valentine's Day! (That's when we celebrate so we don't have to battle crowds) The service was good. We were greeted at the front door and didn't feel rushed to order right away since this was our first time. The atmosphere was nice and felt comfortable right away! We were the only ones in the restaurant at the time but no awkwardness at all. It was snowing the day we stopped in, but they do have an outdoor spot that had ping pong and other games! The food was good! Came out in a timely manner and was hot and fresh! This is deep dish pizza, which isn't something we normally get, so it was a very nice change! All in all, I would definitely come back and grab another slice or some more of that delicious pasta! ✊🏽

Google
Decent detroit style pizza. Maybe just had too many amazing detroit style pizzas and felt like this fell short. These are all personal opinions so take it with a pinch of salt. 1) Just too much sauce for me and the sauce just wasn't meh, nothing to write home about. 2) The sausage just fell short. It tasted like diced up bratwurst. The saving grace was the signature cheese crust. Perfectly crispy delicious. If you're in the mood for detroit style pizza and in Tacoma, this is not a bad option at all.

Google
Delicious deep dish pizza (Detroit Style)… incredible crust, toppings, sauce and cheese. Really great selection of sides and deserts. Excellent service and atmosphere too! Highly recommend giving it a try.

Google
Delicious Detroit style pizza, really nice staff, and cute little dine in area. Excellent crispy cheese edges, well seasoned sauce, and good toppings. Wish the bottom had been a tad crispier but can probably get that during reheat since it’s hefty and definitely leftovers for 2 people.

Google
Amazing pizza! The crust on Detroit style is to die for. I also tried the tavern pizza (pictured) which is thin crust that they cut into small square pieces and it was awesome as well. Highly suggest!

Google
The staff was so friendly. The food is out of this world!! Best pizza I have had in Tacoma! So worth it! The homemade peach pie is also perfect!

Google
Where else can you get a $5 Fernet and a seriously delicious slice of pizza?! Tacoma Pie is a gem. Everything here is crafted with intention—from the long-fermented dough that gives the pizza its perfect chew, to the fun, boozy frozen slushies that make any visit feel like a celebration. You can tell they care deeply about what they do, and it shows in every bite and sip. A must-visit spot in Tacoma!

Yelp
Really good pizza and super friendly staff. Would highly recommend if you're looking for some good Detroit style pizza

Yelp
I'm from Michigan, I know my "detroit style" and had it so much I didn't really miss it. Moved back here to WA two years ago, and finally started missing the square style pizza. And for WA to have a place like this, and here in Tacoma is a treat! Pizza had great taste, sauce, cheesy crust. Came out quick and really friendly service, cool outside eating area with plenty space! You'll not be let down.

Yelp
Oh my LORD! Forget NY style pizza,, Chicago pizza, New Haven pizza, Detroit pizza. Heck, forget Italian pizza. All of it is just so much noise in the background compared to the perfection that is TACOMA PIE: the One True Pizza to rule them all! For real and no joke: I like and even love lots of pizzas and will continue to eat other pizzas, but this one here's my local favorite. The crust is freaking magic, folks, MAGIC! Go get some. Yummy!! That pizza is YUMMY!! I unfortunately can't speak to the service because I've never been the one to go in and get the pizza -- I've just eaten it. I'll update this review when I go in in person. Thanks Tacoma Pie, for making my favorite pizza!

Yelp
Tacoma pi had been on my list to try for probably about a year. I was starving today, and really wanted pizza, and was looking at my saved places to try list which brought me here. Let me just say, I am so mad I didn't try this earlier! First thing is I was a little skeptical at the size of the pizza. I'm a big boy and my wife can put some pizza down herself, so when he told me that there was only one size I was like oh darn these prices are kind of high for a small tiny Pizza. Let me stop that thought process right here, THIS IS NOT A TINY PIZZA. What you're actually getting is 8 slices of deep dish, cheese to the crust, piled high toppings. My wife and I split it in half and each got four, and both of us could not eat that many slices, we each ended up taking home two slices. The ingredients tasted fresh, it took about 30 minutes to make the pie which says to me that it's not sitting on a warmer somewhere. I also want to point out, which I didn't get to try, they had like banana bread muffins/cinnamon roll things. Those looked amazing as well. Service was wonderful too. The redhead guy was super helpful in explaining the way everything works and prices and making us feel like he valued us as a customer. I love the atmosphere too, they had the door open and you got to sit inside an inside area but have the nice breeze of being outside. Literally the only downside that I would say, and this is so small, is a place like this, serving canned mug Root beer, kind of sucks. There are some really great local soda places, I truely wish they partnered with a local brand to sell their soda. A place this good shouldn't be held back by bad soda....also it should be on Fountain so that you could get a refill. Super secret pro tip: get as many corner pieces as you can before other people realize how the corner pieces are most definitely the best piece.

Yelp
My nephew and I were hungry so we found this gem nearby. Friendly service from when ordering at the counter and throughout our time there. It was a nice sunny day so the garage door was up for indoor seating but they have outdoor seating as well. Ordered pepperoni and the pollo fumoso. My teenage nephew really loved both as did I. Great crust not over sauced which was nice flavor of tart and sweet. Pollo fumoso had chicken, sweet pickled flavored bell peppers, ricotta and garlic. So good even my teenage nephew said he would come back and that it was a great choice to come and try this place. He's definitely right and recommend coming and trying this Detroit style pizza place.

Yelp
Lady at the front is the sweetest girl ever!!!! The maui was amazing but the one next to it was a bit too salty for my liking. Regardless great night time atmosphere with accommodating staff and food!

Yelp
I recently had the pleasure of dining at Tacoma Pie in Tacoma, WA, and I must say, it was a delightful experience. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted by the inviting aroma of freshly baked pizza and the warm ambiance of the restaurant. Despite its location on a busy street, I was pleasantly surprised to find ample parking nearby, which made my visit even more convenient. As I perused the menu, I was impressed by the variety of pizza options available, each with its own unique twist. After much deliberation, I decided to go with the classic pepperoni pizza, with an added touch of pesto for an extra burst of flavor. While the $5 upcharge for the pesto seemed a bit steep, I figured it would be worth it for the added taste sensation. The only downside of my experience was the wait time for my pizza. It took longer than expected to receive my order, which was a bit frustrating. However, once the pizza arrived, all thoughts of the wait melted away as I took my first bite. The crust was perfectly crispy, the cheese was gooey and delicious, and the toppings were fresh and flavorful. The combination of the tangy tomato sauce, savory pepperoni, and fragrant pesto was simply divine. Despite the minor hiccup with the wait time and the additional charge for the pesto, I thoroughly enjoyed my meal at Tacoma Pie. The atmosphere was cozy and inviting, the staff were friendly and attentive, and the pizza was top-notch. I left feeling satisfied and eager to return for another visit. If you're in the mood for mouthwatering pizza in Tacoma, I highl

Yelp
Heard rumblings on how good this place is, and it did not disappoint. I got a build your own with pepperoni on the entire pizza and jalapenos on half. The bread of the pizza is very thick. It was magically crisp and crunchy on the outside, but airy and soft on the inside. I'm not sure how the red sauce is seasoned, but it has exceptional flavor. I encourage you all to give it a shot.

Yelp
While we seated ourselves outside we decided to try some ping pong. Omg... we are terrible ! But it was fun. We got better as we went along. Lol Just had time to cool off then the pizza came. Square pizza , sauce was good but a bit much for us. The crispy edges of cheese is what makes it! They do have a small bar inside as well. It's a bit spendy $28 but u never know till u try it right?? It was on r list!

Yelp
Tacoma Pie was another pizza meal Steve and I had recently which we were very impressed by! The pizzas at Tacoma Pies are made in a square and not so much a circle but have a casserole take from my opinion. The La Casa which is what we got lasted us for two meals and provided two wonderful meals as well. I often like leftover pizza to be cold but with this particular pizza it was preferred to be warmed up for the second round. Ingredients were super fresh and tasty which is always, always a plus! Looking forward to returning to try more of their other pizza options in the future!

Yelp
I came here to leave a review before I left this place and wished I woulda taken a pic. This is the pic. The plates are clean. The pizza is phenomenal and is def enough for 3-4 as the menu states. Detroit style pizza rocks. The crust is so fluffy in the middle yet crispy on the outside. The sauce... just wait til you try the sauce. Will def recommend this place.

Yelp
Great Service, Great Food, Great games and outdoor space, Fun and Pizza... Pizza... Pizza. It is the best pizza in Tacoma.
google avatar

Yelp
Love this Detroit style spot. Exactly what I've been looking for! The only thing I could ask for would be cupping crispy pepperoni.
google avatar

Cassandra A.

Yelp
No frills pizza place. They also have pastas, salads, cold and hot sandwiches but we came for the pizza! Their pizzas are loaded with toppings and the crust is thick! Menu says it should feed 2-3 people. I'd say that's accurate. I am not a pizza person but this was very good. I think they make it from scratch because there is a bit of a wait time. If you're hungry, I'd suggest getting a salad or eating a little snack.
google avatar

Laura H.

Yelp
I finally checked out Tacoma Pie! I ordered a slice of cheese pizza and I thought it was really good. It's very thick, but that is what they are known for. They call it a mashup of Sicilian, Grandma, and Detroit styles. I really liked the sauce and enjoyed the thicker crust. I could not eat more than one slice, however. My daughter thought the sauce was a bit spicy, but I just found it flavorful. Maybe keep that in mind if you are sensitive to spice. They have slices every day. I would love to see a vegetarian slice (aside from cheese). The little restaurant is fun, but also has a very relaxed vibel. I definitely see myself returning.

Yelp
We tried this place for the first time and it will be our last time! If you are not a fan of red sauce and spice this isn't for you! Pizza was awful, sauce was too spicy and too much of it as well. Even the crust, which is always the best part, tasted nasty and over done! We were told 30-40 minutes, we get there in time and had to wait another 10 minutes Overall this place is disappointing. Not going back.
google avatar

Larry S.

Yelp
This place is legitimately a great pizza place. Detroit style with their own twist and it's delicious. Great crust, very good sauce and the cheese blend they make themselves is amazing. They do it right and we are the beneficiaries of this delicious pizza. The only thing is their Saturday 3pm opening is not conducive to eating lunch so Dinner it is. Highly recommended you grab a pie and enjoy.
google avatar

Yelp
Out of the way for us but wife picked up pie on way home from Fife and we thoroughly enjoyed it
google avatar

Andrew C.

Yelp
I really wanted to like the pizza here but it's a little mediocre for our taste. You could taste some quality but it just didn't hit like we were told it would. The service and the inside of the bar is great. Really great. We were treated like family. Maybe when we come back in town we will hit them up again. Also, it's a pricey pie so be prepared.

Lord O.

Yelp
Great service, friendly staff, this pie tastes great. Small store, and this pizza packs a big punch. Deep dish, and you will need a napkin.

Yelp
I've been wanting to try Tacoma Pie for awhile now and was blown away by the food & indoor ambience. I never realized how big it was on this inside! I immediately had to call and tell my husband that we should go and hangout in their patio area - it's sweet! They did fail to make my pizza, and actually made a different combo - but provided me with an extra bread pudding as courtesy :) Great location & a breath of fresh air to the Tacoma pizza community - we needed some variation in style. Can't want to go back!!

Yelp
I was on the southwest section of Tacoma and used Yelp to help me find a dinner spot nearby. This gem is called Tacoma Pie and they specialize in Detroit style pizzas. I had a custom made pie with chicken and pepperoni along with a cold jersey sub. The sub was great along with the hot fresh pie. Local Rainier beer hit the spot, great food, fun hangout, and terrific pizza.

Kathy M.

Yelp
Great friendly staff, family and dog friendly. Pizza like my Italian neighbors used to make, but better. 8 slices of rectangular yumminess.

Kirra Z.

Yelp
I rarely eat pizza crust... but I always eat Tacoma Pie's pizza crust. We do the make your own option and every time is 10/10. The service is wonderful, everyone is so friendly. Very welcoming and local vibe. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Home town vibes Great pies served here,El fuego . The crust was crisp The cheese was wet The flavor was to die for

Yelp
Tacoma Pie has some amazing pizza. Their pizza isn't traditional - flat, round- it's a deep dish square pizza. The dough is delicious- toppings were fantastic. We tried a pepperoni and the chicken with pickled peppers dish "pollo fumosa"wasn't a fan of the flavors, but it was still good. The pizzas are expensive- $30 for the chicken but it is a ton of food- a few squares per person and you are full. Let me mention the bread pudding- that's where we died and went to heaven- melted chocolate- caramel sauce- fresh whipped cream- that dessert is epic in my book.

Yelp
Fun place to hang out, grab a beer, and enjoy a slice of pizza or one of their many specials. Super cool bocce ball court and outdoor area with great ambiance. We got a pizza and I feel like it weighed 10 pounds! Pizza is a pan-style pizza - great for sharing and a large portion. Service was excellent as well. This will become a regular in our rotation for sure.

Carl S.

Yelp
Whether you call it Detroit Style or Sicilian, it is phenomenal. La Casa is my go to. Love it!

Emily A.

Yelp
Great service and food! Nice ambiance for a drink, good pizza & a pinball game! Take out is great and neatly packaged. Will definitely be back!

Yelp
Great pizza and well worth the wait. Tastes like family made. Great lighting and comfy seats. Incredible job! Will come back again.

Yelp
Yummy pizza. Nice service. A good addition to the pizza offerings in Tacoma. Will definitely come back again

Yelp
I think I already reviewed this place but there Pie is to die for. I like spicy and they hit the mark ! They open a little later is all I have to complain about.

Yelp
Cody made a beautiful Old fashion!! A must try will definitely come back to try the menu and meet new people

Yelp
Our take-out arrived home to our waiting hoard of famished cornhole competitors freshly made and piping hot. We had mixed reviews on each pie, based mostly on personal preference rather than quality. All agreed that the thick, buttery crust and crispy cheese edges were great. We had: La Casa - quality fennel sausage, black olives, & mushroom. The Vito - Pancetta, cherry peppers, roasted garlic, & green onion. A BYO Classic - pepperoni and sausage on a classic Detroit style pie... my favorite of the 3. The ingredients were plentiful, a necessity to balance out the hefty dough. We found the toppings fresh and the daily prepared sauce provided a pleasantly subtle background to the our varied pies. Overall, a solid pizza offering. My apologies for the photos... The photographer was too badgered by hungry revelers and got in a hurry on this unusually sunny Seattle day. Beer and cameras are a hazardous mix, aren't they?

Yelp
BEST PIZZA IN THE STATE! Detroit style. Great service. Try the wings if they are on special! Dean and Lucas are amazing. Bring the whole family and support local! You won't regret it.

Yelp
I had never tried Detroit-style pizza before visiting Tacoma Pie. Delicious! I'm picky when it comes to pizza and really the only great pizza to be found in Tacoma came from Cloverleaf--until now. Tacoma Pie is very different from Cloverleaf and both are amazing. Go here!
google avatar

Larry L.

Yelp
Best pie in Tacoma? Not even close in my opinion. I found this to be very average and this style of pizza is not my favorite. I think the Cloverleaf, although it can be inconsistent, is still the best pizza in town.
google avatar

Bren I.

Yelp
Awesome pizza, friendly people, and (at least when we were there) good music. Plus a full bar. And Bocce! Ragazzi, andiamo!
google avatar

Sean A.

Yelp
Miss a true deep dish pizza. Never tried but looking for something new. This is your place. The best pizza I've had in years. At least in US. Both decadent and delicious. 6 pizza or pie options or go with build yourself. I ordered the "La Casa" and added Capicola. Perfect crust. Great flavor. I'm still a thin crust guy at heart but this place will expand your horizons. Nice remodel with garage door and hidden beer garden out back. This is a must visit

Yelp
Welcome Tacoma Pie to the 6th Ave neighborhood. Thank you for bringing Detroit Style pizza. Let's start w/the likes: The venue is awesome: lots of stuff to do, games, bocci court, corn hole, outdoor seating, a quaint bar with a sports filled TV screen. It's great for a group gathering of all ages. Let's talk pizza...people will it or never go back. I'm the in the later categoryHowever, I've had at least three people tell me they Tacoma Pie & I look at them confused We then dive into a discussion about what makes good . I believe it's positive memories associated with the pizza moments. Tacoma Pie fans thick crust, thick cheese & a sauce w/a kick. BTW, the crusty slightly burnt cheese edges were pretty perfect, love that! I ate more than I should've which means I didn't hate it, but I'm a pizza purist I like a stone baked crust (not pan), crisp thin crust (not focaccia bread) and the less oil the better, basically the anti-thesis of the Detroit style pizza. Swipe through the pictures I posted & look at the thickness of the crust. I measured it, it's over an inch thick. Hopefully this post doesn't deter you, but give you a good idea of what kind of pizza you'll be getting. It's not for everyone, but those that like it, love it, which is why I went into so much detail with this post. Ingredients used in dough: flour, semolina, oil, sugar, yeast, salt and sugar. Oh and there is no military discount. Pizza out #pizza #tacomapie #pizzareview #pnwpizza #detroitstylepizza #pizzablogger #southsoundpizza #tacomapizza #myjourney

Yelp
I got two slices to go tonight and they both had no sauce on them..kinda disappointing.

Yelp
FYI A GREEK SALAD doesn't have lettuce. I paid $12 for cucumbers, feta, and olives, a few green bell peppers. The vinegar dressing was more like an oily bland afterthought. I honestly thought he forgot to finish making it. I called to ask wtf is the lettuce and they said I paid 12 bucks for cucumbers and feta because they FORGOT to put in the tomatoes. One of the 4 ingredients in their terrible excuse for a "Greek SALAD" I'd never go back. The pizza is an overpriced Pizza Hut knock off and nothing special. Sorry this place food sucked. If you want great pizza go down the block to Cloverleaf it's beyond amazing and cheaper. They even have lettuce in their salads. Imagine that!

Kayla S.

Yelp
I wanted sooooo badly to love this place since I know they're trying hard to be accommodating but I can't lie to my fellow vegans. The dough and sauce, A+, 10/10 - would eat all day. The vegan cheese they use -1000/10. It was SO BAD. It didn't melt. It was dry. It smelled awful. I seethed with envy as my husband enjoyed a perfectly melty, cheese-pull worthy pizza as I bit into the fluffy dough topped with shredded stinky cardboard "cheese." Veganism and vegan cheese has come SO far within the last decade, this just felt like a time warp/set back. We can do so much better. Have y'all tasted your own pizza? This cheese completely ruins it. PLEASE change it to something that actually melts/doesn't smell like feet. I would never order another pizza from here until that is changed. I mustered through as many bites as I could but at almost $40 for a pizza, this was a major letdown.
google avatar

Danielle W.

Yelp
The pizza was delicious, the sauce was perfect. The service was stellar and felt really comfortable and inviting. It seemed the people working there knew a lot of the people ordering, which is a homey vibe I don't often see in my local places in Ohio. I liked the photos of staff and owners around the indoor dining portion. I didn't go outside but they had bocce ball, corn hole, and a heater which I would've loved to check out if I had time. Oh! And the bathroom was clean!! Would easily recommend this place
google avatar

Brittany S.

Yelp
The pizza we ordered was absolutely incredible. We built our own pie and the highlight was the crispy pepperoni on top and the crispy cheese on the edges of the crust. We ordered take out but the vibes inside were great so we plan on coming back to dine in.
google avatar

Yelp
The hype is real and accurate. My wife had been asking about this for the last couple of weeks and we finally had a chance to check them out. I called in the order, drove in, got there just after the time they suggested, waited a minute and was on my way home. I was shocked that this place is so close to the Tacoma Musical Theatre, but glad that area is filling out a bit more. As soon as you walk up you can smell the delicious smells coming off the pizzas they are cooking. We ordered the Maui Waui and my wife hates onions but enjoyed the balsamic onions. I loved the entire thing. It may have been a bit big for the 2 of us, but it was excellent. Crust is super crispy and delicious. I dont know how they get it like that but its amazing!! The pizza as a whole is just as good. At this point I highly recommend it, call it in early, and grab some pizza and enjoy!!
