Google
Gave Tacombi another try after having a not-so-great experience the first time around, and was pleasantly surprised. My first visit was unimpressive with what I remember to be lackluster, overpriced tacos. This time around I was very satisfied with my meal. Ordered the corn esquite to start and followed with the rib eye, fish, chicken, sweet potato and birria tacos. All were delicious with the fried fish taco being my favorite. While I still think prices are high for a taco, the quality of the food this time around, I felt justified the price.

Google
The food is good and the service is fast, and the atmosphere itself is nice. But the meals feel empty and incomplete—no garnish, no sides, not even a small basket of chips to make it feel like a full experience. For the price, it seems like they could give just a little more. Overall, the flavors are solid, but for me this feels like a one-and-done spot rather than a place I’d come back to.

This place is AMAZING!!! Their food is SOOO DELICIOUS!!!! We couldn't stop ordering .. The kids just LOVED their food !! Their crispy fish taco 😋😋😋😋😋, and shrimp 😋😋😋😋😋!!! Kids had beef tacos, they ate is so quick didn't have a chance to take a pic 🤣🤣🤣.. We also ordered guac and chips along with street corn... which ended up reordering more .

We went on Taco Tuesday which we think is actually worth it as it’s 2 for 1 tacos. We got the Baja fish tacos which are pretty loaded compared to others and I got a steak burrito. Only wish the burrito had some veggies , lettuce or pico de gallo.

Google
Food so good I did not have a second to take all the pics. We DEVOURED the delicious fresh tasty addicting tacos, quesadillas chips and guacamole. We decided to order more. The staff is great adds to very nice atmosphere. I feel like a valued customer!! Always makes the food taste better when the people are so great. Thank you tacombi!! My kids are a big fan of the food. They can eat this everyday 😅 my ten year old licks the plate clean

Google
3.5 Went for their Tuesday BOGO-taco-free deal. Lower-priced tacos got deducted from the bill. Food is kind of pricey at regular price so this deal is pretty good. Grilled fish and shrimp tacos were more satisfying, had more toppings and flavor. Ribeye had meat slices, onions and green pepper- filling but tasted plain, needed sauce. The birria was meaty with cheese, greasy but was tasty with the consomme. Will pass on their open-faced steak quesadilla. Service is pretty good but food took some time to come out. We liked the ambiance. After entering via an iron gate, felt like we were outdoors. We went on a really hot afternoon and for a bit, the fans weren't enough. A couple of restrooms available.

Google
I was expecting this to be a mediocre gentrified Mexican food experience but I was actually pleasantly impressed. The shrimp taco was so flavorful and the birria was on point as well. I will be back.

Google
Northern Mexican style menu options. Delicious food, however my taco tortillas crumbled instantly as I held it. It was difficult eating my taco with most of the ingredients falling off. Overall happy with the atmosphere and restaurant decor! My waitress was very sweet and helped remove the used plates. Would come here again for the vibe!

Yelp
Jeffrey was amazing! Checked on us frequently and made sure we were good. Definitely recommend coming here!

Yelp
The Forrest Hills tacombi is my favorite, it's homie, it feels like you left New York, a bit of an oasis in the middle of the iron. Staff is attentive, and even though they are standard, the food just seems to taste better here. The rib eye taco? Oh my GAWD! You will not just have one.

Yelp
I've been to this restaurant 3-4 times and it's always been underwhelming. The rice is white rice and not yellow/ saffron rice, not to mention very dry; maybe they are being cost conscious using white rice. The fish used for the tacos lacks flavor, it's masked by the sauce . t least season the batter. The limes accompanying the shrimp, and fish tacos were like the Sahara desert... literally just one drop of lime juice. The best thing was the spicy margarita and even that was average. This is true chain restaurant overpriced Mexican food. If you find yourself in Time Square, try Los Tacos No.1 instead. I'm sure operating a restaurant comes with its challenges, but listen to the feedback of the people.

Yelp
Very average taco place. It was super fast service, but we were literally in and out with eating in 20 minutes. There is no finesse or vibes here but at $6 - 7a taco, it doesn't match. I got the fish tacos which had a good flavor on them, but were pretty small. The birria taco was very salty. The al pastor was good, but again pretty small. Additionally, no chips or salsa to start. Overall, nothing terrible about this place, and service was so so (never got a refill on water, etc.), food is average, but the price point makes it a definite no for me.

Yelp
This is my second time coming here but my first time at this location and omg never disappoints. Service 5/5 food 5/5 and setting 5/5. They always have the lighting set at the perfect tone for some reason lol. My favorite thing to order is the Baja crispy fish taco. First time trying the corn esquites (almost ordered two, but had to contain myself) everything was great.

Yelp
My mother and I had lunch at Tacombi on Sunday afternoon. We very much enjoyed the restaurant's setup; yet the simplicity filled with beautiful decor. It reminds me of a typical local restaurant in Mexico City. Very nice vibes and set up. We ordered three chicken tacos, one fish taco and one chicken quesadilla that we happily shared. And for drinks we of course enjoyed two bottles of Lupita Sodas; felt like I was in Mexico with the vibrant flavor. Haha! Our meal was so delicious, authentic and super tasty. Well done chef! We very much enjoyed the small portion which hit the spot nicely and didn't overwhelm us. We must say the price selection was affordable; that's a plus. And our waitress was just amazing ; she checked up on us to make sure everything was going good and also made great recommendations on what we should order. Looking forward to eat here again.

Yelp
I came in for a quick drink with my girlfriend and Jeffrey was a pleasure! He was very polite and quick with our order! The food was also delicious and fresh. It's local to my home so I will deff be back!

Yelp
Chips were a little too oily, though the guac was quite good. The shrimp tacos were best, though likely should've ordered the fried cod. Birria was a little messy.
google avatar

Yelp
This review is based solely on the tacos they have that are based on the mexico city Michelin taqueria. They are amazing and worth a try!! The meat both the beef and pork were marinated perfectly. A touch of lime and wow. That's not all add the special 2 Salas and even better. Come because they are only here until the 31st. Hopefully they keep them longer!!!

Yelp
The staff checked in a lot and were friendly. There was plenty of seating, and it wasn't too loud. In cool weather, this is the perfect spot of a summer vibes kind of meal. The Beef Birria taco was really good, mostly due to the great consime. I should have ordered more tacos to go with the generous amount of consome I got. The Agua de Sandia, the Watermelon Aguas Frescas, was refreshing and didn't particularly stand out to me. The Guacamole con Totopos came with the perfect chips, which were thicker, crispy, and not so fragile. The Crispy Baja Fish Taco came with perfectly crisp fish, although it lacked toppings to balance out the amount of meat. The Al Pastor Quesadilla was good and had plenty of meat in it. I did wish it was cheesier, but it was still good nonetheless.

Yelp
Came for take out and food was not good. Service was not good. We got corn esquites, large guac, fish tacos, al pastor tacos, baja taco, quesadilla and pollo burrito. We also got 2 watermelon drinks. The 1 star is for the tacos which were okay. $15 for a large guac that came in a small takeout container is highway robbery. The burrito was 65% wrap and not enough chicken. Most of it was cabbage. Corn esquites was not sweet corn, just dried and heavily doused in mayo in a coffee takeout cup. They also charged us for an item that they said was not available to even get. We called to have it refunded and it still has not happened. Save your time and money and go elsewhere in forest hills for food.

Yelp
We decided to try Tacombi by ordering platos for takeout -- beef birria, Baja Crispy Fish, Carne Asada, and Al Pastor. Also added an order of large guacamole with chips. Each plato came with rice and beans plus the protein and 3 tortillas. The tortillas were very fresh tasting. It came with a few containers of sauces. We definitely needed the sauces to add more favor to the tacos. Forgot to take pictures before eating. I ordered for 6:30 pickup and it was all packed and ready when I got there. Friendly host.

Yelp
While we just went in for drinks, we had a great experience and will be back to try the menu. We had a very yummy pitcher of mexcalitas. So good! Service was great, and we shut the place down.

Yelp
I first had Tacombi in their location out in Long Island, then in Manhattan, and tried their location in Forest Hills for the first time. We went on a Friday night and was seated immediately. Might I start off by saying: this restaurant is exceptionally well managed, which you can almost always tell in a restaurant when the manager is on the front line helping with orders instead of idling around. The tables are clean, great music and decor inside. We got the lemon lime soda, the agua fresca in watermelon, chips and guac to start. For tacos, we got crispy fish, al pastor, and shrimp. All of them were fresh and hot, topped with a generous amount of protein, and came out in a timely manner. Not surprisingly the fried fish one is my favorite. Crisp flakey cod with the right amount of toppings, not too salty or saucy. Yum. The winning touches for me was the house hot sauce (which they unfortunately do not sell by the bottle) the aptly named "Taco Hand Wash" station which is so clever and convenient. Loved my experience and will surely be back.

Yelp
We order takeout from here a lot! It's also fun to dine in but the seats aren't the most comfortable. My favorite is the steak quesadilla, really delicious! Would recommend to people who want delicious food and a fun atmosphere!

Emma M.

Yelp
Tacombi was amazing! Jeffery gave great service. I loved the esquites, shrimp tacos, and vibe.

Yelp
Food and drinks were great. Ambiance was fantastic. Thanks to Jeffery!! Had a lovely time.

Yelp
Surprised to have great Al pastor taco. With pineapple.... Yummy. All tacos are interesting and yummy.

Yelp
The place is airy. Feel like you sitting outside. The service is fast and friendly. My favorite is the Baja fish. 2nd is beef Birria. 3rd is Sinaloa Shrimp. And you can't go wrong with the Al Pastor. I recommend taking advantage of the taco Tuesday. Buy one get one free taco!

Yelp
A better than Taco Bell chain but definitely overpriced. There's always a table here at the forest hills location. Food comes quickly and easy to order using their paper menu options. I'll be back but only for a quick bite with a friend. Definitely overpriced.

Yelp
Ah, Tacombi--where they've truly mastered the art of making you feel like you're paying top dollar for "street" food. I mean, why experience authentic tacos on an actual street when you can have them served in a converted garage, complete with decor that screams, "I'm edgy but approachable"? The tacos are beautifully small, so you can savor each microscopic bite and then ponder whether ordering four more will bankrupt you. And the flavors? Truly innovative! They've managed to make a taco taste like you're eating it in an art gallery, complete with that refined essence of "barely seasoned" chic. Ah yes, the cod taco--what a delightfully "basic" little creation. They've truly taken the essence of a fish taco and distilled it down to its simplest form, fish in a tortilla. It's as if they thought, "Why complicate things with bold flavors or daring seasoning when we could just give you cod and call it a day?" Don't get me wrong, the cod itself was fine cooked well enough, though it had all the excitement of a fish stick at a school lunch. It's perfect for those days when you crave a taco but don't want to risk your taste buds being stimulated too much. A real win for minimalists and anyone avoiding the thrill of flavor! Oh, and the ambiance! Nothing says "authentic Mexican vibes" quite like New York hipsters filming their dinner for Instagram under warm Edison bulbs. For anyone looking to experience taco culture without, you know, the grit of an actual taco truck, Tacombi's got you covered.

Kelsy H.

Yelp
great place! loved the server jeffery! I always love the flavors and the atmosphere of the place. definitely try every flavor of taco if you go multiple times, it will be worth it!

Yelp
Joined the Tacombi Taco Taco Club, which is an automatic membership if you enjoy Taco Tuesdays. Every Tues they have a buy one get one taco deal that should NOT be slept on. My Queens friend was out of town working, but I still enjoyed two Baja crispy fish tacos and a Lupita Lime soda during a fun happy hour run. Three salsas/hot sauces accompany every table. Tacombi is a fun casual restaurant with excellent staff and service. Who wants to join me next time?

Yelp
Stopped off here while I was waiting for my buddies to arrive. I did not stay for dinner, but the place looks like it was getting busy. I'd stop off and try something on the menu next time.

Yelp
My go too spot for a quick bite and a quick drink. They have a great happy hour. The employees are very polite the place is very clean. I like how the ambiance is authentic Mexico almost like eating outside out under someone's house. The manager also is very nice and always says hi and welcomes us back every time we go. My favorite is the birria which is one of the best I've ever had.

Yelp
My daughter and I met up for a quick after work bite. I had previously visited the location near Atlantic Center and wanted to give this location a try. Space is huge stretching all the way back of the property with space to eat inside or the backyard. Your pick. Inside the decor boasts baskets of fresh fruits and cultural sodas. The staff is very welcoming and moves at an appropriate pace. The customer service was top tier with the waiter and manager constantly checking on guests to ensure they were ok. We had guac and chips for starters. Give us fresh with the right amount of kick. Personally I prefer table side guac from a hot stone mortar but this can work. I went with the sautéd fish tacos and my daughter had the chicken enchilada. I added a cup of corn esquires which is Mexican street corn with fresh grated cheese and seasoning. OMG! So freaking good. Both of us had the hibiscus drink which we chose thinking it would be refreshing but it had a kick that not even the agave hey borough on the side could tame so I'll next time. Overall, it was a good experience. Again, the food is the star. We will def revisit. Nice addition to the neighborhood.

Yelp
Unreliable in delivery and extremely unhelpful when there is a problem. Strongly avoid for delivery - food is nice, but not worth the problems. Edit - thanks, Tacombi, for copying and pasting a form response. It is approximately the same level of help you previously gave.
google avatar

Yelp
I've had some fantastic meals on Austin street but i was completely blown away by their tacos here!! Inside gives the feel of a Mexican taqueria and this is a food where the food matches the decor! Their waitstaff is super nice and friendly and attentive enough. I got the Baja fish taco and an al pastor and they were perfect for a quick lunch. Get their esquites too!!
google avatar

Susan R.

Yelp
This taco shop transported us to Mexico. The decor and tables were spot on. We had a few tacos each, a side of rice and 2 non alcoholic beverages. We only liked the fish tacos. I believe my boyfriend generously forked out about $90. Extremely overpriced.

Rihanna C.

Yelp
The staff was super nice. The chicken tacos tasted like overnight meat and the tacos were mad cold but the staff gave us new one. The beef birria, the chips and juice were excellent!!
google avatar

Felicia I.

Yelp
I've ordered from here & the food hasn't disappoint. The guacamole & chips were tasty along with the corn esquites. The corn was creamy from the morita mayo & cheesy from the cotijia cheese. It was a good blend. My favorite so far has been the birria taco. It's crunchy & with the consome it just makes it perfect & more flavorful. I also tried the seared fish taco, which was good as well & had crunch from the cabbage. They didn't have guacamole this time & I wish they wouldn't called me or throw in something else, but I won't it against them.

Yelp
I went here today with my sister for a lunch date. The restaurant is very casual with modest furniture. We were allowed to pick our own seat and the waitress was attentive and quick. We were given complimentary tortilla chips and salsa. The menus are paper and you check what you want and hand it to the waitress. I had the avocado tostada and it was delicious! The beans , avocado and crema were plentiful. Next, we had the chicken and carne asada taco (one each). I didn't get to take a photo of the chicken taco as I ate it so quick haha, but it was my favorite of the two. Both tacos though were tasty but a bit bland and had the perfect balance of toppings to meat. The only thing I would say is the food in general is a bit salty for my liking. I love savory and salty , but it was just a bit like overkill. The hibiscus (Jamaica) drink was delicious. It came with a side of liquid sugar to flavor to my liking. It was a bit sour but really tasty nonetheless. I would give this spot a 3.5/5 stars. Our bill came to 31 dollars before tip and tax, solid spot for lunch.
google avatar

Aash S.

Yelp
This place really does have delicious food. The vibe is very casual, almost out door patio style seating indoors. I had the steak tacos which were tasty The Birria tacos are always very good And the fried fish tacos are delicious as well. I'd highly recommend getting the corn appetizer. It's soooo good. Be sure to mix it up. See y'all soon!

Mal M.

Yelp
In my opinion the quesadillas are the thing to get here. Nice casual spot to grab some food and have a drink. Chips and guac are so so. The guac definitely needed salt.
google avatar

Victoria V.

Yelp
The place is huge and the decor is really nice! I recommend the carne asada taco. And the bartender Andrew was really pleasant and professional. Will be coming back!
google avatar

Shengyu G.

Yelp
My friend and I wanted to get some tacos for lunch. We got Baja Crispy Fish Taco, Carnitas Taco,Pollo Yucateco and Carne Asada Tacos. Each taco is about $6. Honestly, we were kind of disappointed. The tacos are filling but not too much flavor. Carnitas tacos were not even warm enough. I think Corn Esquites is the best of all the food we get. We also ordered Sandia Santa drinks and they were ok. The vibe is the place is nice and chill. Hopefully next time we can get something different and better.
google avatar

Gajtana S.

Yelp
A good friend is a big Tacombi fan and recommended it. I was catching up with another friend and was really excited about my experience here. They have a short but sweet menu with reasonable prices The food is antibiotic and hormone free. Happy Hour is Monday to Friday from 4-7 pm. I had the Sandia Santa's, tequila with fresh watermelon and lime for $9. It was refreshing and strong. We sat outside on a cool windy day. Our server was friendly and efficient. I shared the five star home made tortillas and guacamole. The black beans and rice side dish was cooked to perfection. I had one chicken taco with veggies, one of the best I ever had. They don't serve dessert so I'm putting this request out. I'll take churros, ice cream and and any dessert you offer. I'm sure whatever you offer will be as top notch as your savory food. Overall a 4.25.

Yelp
Walking in I felt like I went back to time here on Austin Street. The bright white decor made me feel like I was walking into Johnny Rockets - a kitschy burger chain that FH thankfully exercised about a decade ago. Unfortunately Tacombi captures the kitsch, but in Mexican form. The seating here is pretty uncomfortable with little square backless chairs and stools. I was seated at a hightop when I stated I didnt have a preference. I ordered a watermelon aqua fresca which came delivered with a bottle of water as I looked over the menu. I decide on three tacos - al pastor, seared fish a la plancha, pollo yucateco. Each was small, flavorless and served barely warm to nearly cold. I asked for red and green salsa that added no flavor whatsoever. These overpriced tacos are not worth it - if you live in FH and you can't be bothered to travel a subway stop or two to nearby neighborhoods like Jackson Heights, Woodside, Corona, etc... for a more flavorful and better experience then come here and get what you deserve.
google avatar

Tee D.

Yelp
The place is nice, the location is great, service is always great, but let's be honest, you don't care. You want to know if they have good tacos. They do. Tacos are wonderful and taste authentic (they're corn and made fresh). Drinks look good but haven't had any personally. The price stings though. I wouldn't come here frequently for that reason alone. Great way to save calories though!

Alan T.

Yelp
Tacos and margaritas are always good. Love the ambiance and decor. Our server Jeff was great and attentive. Will be back!

Yelp
Im always in forest hills and finally decided to try it out. It said it opens at 11 am. So I went there at 11:15 am and still wasn't opened. So I ended not eating there that day. The following week after work, I decided to give it another shot. And now it One spot you need definitely need to try! The menu is limited but all of their food is fresh and flavorful. We ordered: -corn esquites - Al pastor tacos - Carne Asada - Pollo yucateco taco - Norteña - Gallo quesadillas -lupita piña & limón One order is one taco, so I'd recommend at least 2 tacos per person. Definitely recommend, they have indoor and outdoor seating and very quick service! Although they open not at the time it says on google or Yelp.

Yelp
I contemplated writing this review because I really don't enjoy negative reviews however it's my duty to the Yelp community to advise and inform. An alarm went off in my head when on 6 pm Friday I entered and witnessed more employees than patrons dining. This is Forest Hills and a beautiful afternoon so no reason why it would be so empty but I went against my better judgment and decided to give it a go and let's just be frank, I wasted money on 4 midget sized, overpriced, dry and flavorless tacos. 2 Al Pastor Tacos, 1 Carnitas Taco, and 1 Seared Fish Taco. Did I mention the tacos were barely warm at $5.00 each and the fish was $7.00? I found out the hard way why Tacombi was empty on a Friday evening but not again. There are way more authentic taco restaurants in nearby Corona and Jackson heights at a lesser price. In all, this was a dinner to forget but the staff was super nice and friendly. They make up the two stars on this review.

Yelp
It's like you open the door and you enter a portal that send you to Ciudad De Mexico! The food and all is pretty good, other than I'll never order rice and beans again. I get it, every region of Mexico has different ways of cooking rice and beans. (Sorry, im being a toxic Mexican tio) Oh and all the agua frescas are delicious, except for the Jamaica, not impressed! Service providers have had meh service, but today I was so impressed with your server Christina (with the Amber Rose haircut) I actually asked her if they were Mexican because of the warm hospitality she provided. She's Italian, so I felt that motherly warmth :) My partners and I hope to see her again soon as our server. We normally go in every 3 weeks on a Sunday or Monday! Anyways give this girl 5 stars and a raise.

Yelp
The best Mexican spot on Austin street! Hands down, the quality I am in Mexico! Thank you for your hospitality and well recommend.

Yelp
We just finished watching a movie and got hungry. So we decided to try this place out. The service was superb and the waiters were very attentive. The tacos were all delicious. My only ding is the price. Its much more expensive than other places. So just a warning on that. The birria tacos was 2 for $12 and the others were $5 to $6 for just one. The bill adds up fast especially if youre really hungry.

Cil D.

Yelp
Nice spot for Mexican tacos. The restaurant was clean and cozy. We had the shrimp taco, carne asada, corn esquites, and cheese quesadilla and all of them were tasty with the right amount of heat. Deandra, our waiter, was very friendly and attentive. Would come here again. Thank you.

Yelp
It definitely gave me similar vibes to Los Tacos #1 in NYC. I love that spot! I ordered the chicken quesadilla, beef taco, shrimp taco, (2) fish taco, (2)horchata and watermelon drink. One thing I noticed is that it felt pricer than similar places. I get it, Austin Street rent must suck and the place was pretty big with some high ceilings. The vibe was really nice and the mini coat hanger at each table was a handy touch. Service was kind but a little slow to just getting some water as the some of the food came before the water. Chicken quesadilla was good, seasoned well. It lacked some toppings and I thought would be a quesadilla with a top and bottom tortilla but it some open faced style which coincidentally had to be folded into a taco. Beef taco was good but the beef could have been seasoned better. Shrimp was great and cooked well. Highlight was the cod fish taco. It was seasoned and cooked right on spot. Horchata was tasty maybe a bit watery. Watermelon drink was refreshing. All in all a good spot to check but honestly wouldn't go regularly as my order with tip was almost $100! Forgot to mention I got the corn too and it was spot on. Give me a bigger cup please! :)
