The 12 Best Bowls of Queso in Houston | Eater Houston

"Is there anything better than queso that’s inside a taco? Absolutely not. The tater taco, stuffed with Mexican tater tots, black beans, bacon, queso, and pickled jalapenos, is an incredible hangover cure. Otherwise, order the queso quintero — a rich, cheesy option that’s topped with chorizo, pico de gallo, and scallions." - Amy McCarthy

Always decent and consistent tacos. They're bigger than you're an average Taco so keep that in mind when you order. I got the lamb which was really good and a chicken pica one.

Every every time I’m in the area, I make sure I stop by! The tacos are amazing! The customer service is always great! Micheal, you are awesome However, today when I left the gym, I attempted to call in my order around 1 PM. Jasmine answered the phone. She seemed to be very overwhelmed. She was doing her job answering everybody professionally, but hung up the phone on me. I work in hospitality, I understand lunch rush. When I called back, Mike answered the phone and gladly took my order. I went inside the restaurant to order Jasmine Did not greet me at all she simply just waited at her register until I walked up to the register to order my breakfast taco.. Every question I had about my Taco. She seemed to be very combative and snappy. There wasn’t even a line the lunch rush seemed to pass. This is a great establishment, Jasmine please work on your customer service and treat everybody the same! You are working in hospitality, be slow to react, listen and pay attention. Just because you’re extremely loud does not mean you’re right sweetie calm down You definitely brought such an awful energy. I will return on the days you don’t work.

We were looking for a light meal and I came across this place. It's a quaint little spot with unique decor, a cool vibe, and good food! Service was quick and friendly, and the menu options are diverse. I loved the fact that there was an entire menu dedicated to vegetarian and vegan options! Parking is extremely limited in the front but there is additional parking around the back. I would definitely visit again (hopeful after "dry January")!

Google
Great tex mex spot! Fast service. Tacos tasted good. Highly recommend combo with potatoes and beans

Google
I recently ordered food for pick up through DoorDash from Tacos a go go and unfortunately, my experience was quite disappointing. While eating my meal, I discovered a long hair tangled in the food, which was definitely not mine. This was extremely off-putting and completely ruined my appetite. I expect better hygiene standards from a restaurant, especially when ordering through a service like DoorDash. I hope the management takes this feedback seriously and improves their food handling practices to prevent such incidents in the future.

Google
Great breakfast taco spot! Got barbacoa and brisket and egg tacos. Salsa comes on the side. They are large tacos so 2 was plenty. The restaurant itself was pretty chilly inside by otherwise good.

Google
Been coming here for a few years. The customer service has gotten alot better.Thank goodness!! The food is somewhat consistent, though the portions have become smaller, and smaller. Also, the staff seems confused about "happy hour " and prices of add ons. So much inconsistentcy I won't be back... Update about the owners reply to my review about the portions. It's been MY experience that the taco portions are smaller than they used to be, even with rising costs that you mentioned. Perhaps the cooks can get on the same page.

Google
Really cool spot right on White Oak Blvd. Menu was large and easy to follow for being a walk-up spot. Service was quick and friendly. Truthfully, thought the tacos were just OK, but definitely hit the spot if you’re looking for low cost breakfast tacos on the fly.

Yelp
During the midst of the rain ... and of course after work. I took the initiative to stop and get food before heading home. Upon arrival there was open parking. Now the parking lot is small so I was glad to get front door parking. When walking in I was greeted by the sweetest waitress. She took my order , made me a margarita and ensured my food would be out soon... and that's exactly what happened. Before I got good and comfortable my nachos were served with the Diablo salsa in the side. I immediately went in on everything. From the fresh cheese to the meat selections, everything was perfect. My watermelon margarita was sooooo smooth I wanted to chug it but I dared not due to a brain freeze. The whole experience is definitely 10/10.

Yelp
These tacos aren't bad but they're not great. I was looking for a taco truck but there were none in the area so I stopped here but wasn't blown away by any of my tacos. Nothing had a distinct great flavor they were just saucy meat.

Yelp
Great place for tacos. It's fast casual with good ingredients, comfortable seating and nice service. I simply order their brisket taco on every visit and leave happy. Five stars for the Houston Heights location.

Yelp
The food is worth the crap parking and eating in the car love me some tacos a gogo!! But yes more parking please

Yelp
At there Saturday and ended up getting food poisoning. Both of us got sick. Never again.
google avatar

Keandra P.

Yelp
I stopped in here while out with friends on Saturday to basically grab-and-go in the Heights. Service- was good, and while I did not eat inside, the server that rang me up was kind. There were only a few ppl inside. Food- I ordered the shrimp quesdilla with jalapeño ranch sauce, which was good. I did not get a chance to eat it right away, even despite that, overall, it was just ok. There was almost no cheese in it. But a good amount of shrimp. Now, I am a cheese connoisseur, so I do have high expectations. But even with that, it was a disappointment on a basic cheese level, none connoisseur level - it just wasn't there. Perhaps the tacos are better? I may give this place another try.

Yelp
Barría tacos were delicious and flavorful. Definitely worth a try. All the other tacos I got were equally tasty. Sauces complimented the tacos well but weren't necessary

Yelp
This place tacos suck I don't understand why it's so popular. The service is good but the food sucks. This morning I ordered 3 bean and cheese tacos and the were the worst and skimpiest bean and cheese tacos I've ever had. And they were expensive for nothing. If you really want some good tacos go to Taco Palenque at 3000 Woodridge Dr., you can UberEats from this location. They have the best tacos around. Here some pic of these awful Tacos A Go Go tacos.

Yelp
Delicious breakfast tacos -- made lightning fast! We placed an order for over 20 breakfast tacos and were able to pick them up within 15 mins. The offerings for taco fillings were extensive: bacon, sausage, chorizo, cheese, potatoes and many many more. The tacos were tasty -- lots of filling with a good amount of flavor. Each was served with a variety of salsas, some spicy, some smoky. Employees were cheerful and had our order prepped and ready to go from the moment we walked in.

Yelp
We got a couple breakfast tacos today for the taco day deal, $1 a taco! We got the egg, bacon and potato with roja salsa. They were pretty good, especially for the price, but I'm not sure I'd come again for them. I am however interested in stopping again for lunch or dinner in the future to try the other things on the menu! Parking is limited, but found a 10min parking spot. Inside is cute and the service was good.

Yelp
Excellent food, today we tried the breakfast tacos ad they are amazing, good service and prices are affordable. The ambiance is great, kid and pet friendly.
google avatar

Cassandra N.

Yelp
We love tacos a gogo. Always a hit when we're in the area. I really like the Birria and the kids love the breakfast tacos.
google avatar

Nhu H.

Yelp
I come here for the breakfast tacos. Very filling and reasonably priced. My fiancé and I came here on a Saturday morning around 9 AM to beat the morning brunch crowd and it was busy but there was still ample parking and the wait wasn't too long. I ordered the breakfast tacos and he had the breakfast burrito. Both did not disappoint. You order at the counter and they bring out the food to your table. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Monica J.

Yelp
Tacos lacked flavor big time. I also asked for grilled onions but they just put chopped fresh onions.. pretty disappointing
google avatar

Tressa E.

Yelp
Waited an hour for a Falso Pastor taco that has to be re made. Ordered another and more margaritas for the table, and still didn't get it. I've been coming here for years, so not sure what's up tonight.

Juan B.

Yelp
Love this taco joint for breakfast and they also make killer breakfast burritos without the carb redundant rice and beans filler unless you ask. The December Tamales are awesome, they don't serve them in the restaurant, you have to take them home and steam them, worth it! They are delicious and some don't like the following word but, moist...

Yelp
Love the breakfast tacos here! We come here a few Sunday mornings a month and always get hot tasty tacos with friendly and fast service. Recommend any of the build your own breakfast tacos and chips and queso blanco. Love the location and back patio. Only downside vs most of their other locations, as with most places in the heights, is lack of parking. However, I'm usually pretty lucky in getting a spot in front.
google avatar

Tim S.

Yelp
Relaxed atmosphere with lots of options. My kids love playing in the back outdoor area and I love the margaritas! Parking is in short supply.
google avatar

Michelle L.

Yelp
- cheese was very stringy and yummy and there was a lot of chicken! (much value for the $10 price) - next time will get salsa or not sour cream so there's a little more flavor - pretty fast service - super casual lunch or dinner spot, they also have nice outdoor seating

Ali B.

Yelp
Great breakfast egg and bacon tacos were catered to our event - they were a hit - would order again

Yelp
Here for Lunch Different we don't Have A Torches Tacos in Baytown,Tx. Yummy. Good we need 1 in Baytown,Tx.
google avatar

Savon H.

Yelp
If you like authentic tacos at a reasonable price, this is NOT the place for you. This is just a luxurious Taco Bell.

Tonya M.

Yelp
We love their tacos and Rita's! Go on a pretty day and sit out back in the patio area. Happy hour is a solid deal.
google avatar

Roderic M.

Yelp
The food was amazing. Tater-taco made with tater-tots was a nice combination of crunchy tots with black beans and a cream sauce. The verde taco was grilled fresh veggies...nice charred flavor. The side salsas were each delicious in their own way. The only thing keeping me from giving a 5-star review is that my wife and I had a hard time finding a clean table. There were lots of empty tables (this was at 11:00am, not busy), but we had to give up sitting inside and sat outside on the patio. Which was nice enough.
google avatar

David G.

Yelp
Never fails! Weekends half price pitchers which yield 4 - 16ounce cups of frozen margaritas for $15! Two taco plate is the way to go for just under $10! The food is always fresh, hot, smooth! Must try any of their locations!
google avatar

Michelle W.

Yelp
Where do I begin? Nachos? Yes please. Tacos? Of course. Breakfast tacos? Heck yes! Try them all. Trust me your love them. I may or may not have an addiction to their salsa at times enough to bring home. Taco Tuesdays are great. The drinks usually hit just right.

Niwashi K.

Yelp
Watch out for fraud. Lunch on Monday, 10/9/2023. Pushed large "NoTip" button on CC screen but "somehow ended up with a 20% tip on receipt.
google avatar

Larry O.

Yelp
My first time to try Tacos A Go-Go, and I enjoyed it very much. It's wonderful that breakfast tacos are served all day, and LOVED the Black-Cherry drink. Not sure how wrestlers fit in with tacos, but the decorations were so neat to look at.
google avatar

C M.

Yelp
drive from east side to go on a walk and get food here. the salsas are perfect ..none of that watery tasteless spiceless stuff served here. i buy a cup & save the leftovers to use it to marinate chicken at home :) staff are pretty friendly and dogs are allowed on the back patio area, which is cute. only have had the beef and pork street tacos here, both are good. it's expensive though
google avatar

Evelyn L.

Yelp
Apparently some of the best tacos in houston are sold here, so we finally hit up this place, and I wasn't impressed. We got the pastor, lamb barbacoa, pollo guisado, and puerco guisando. I didn't think any of the tacos tasted like Mexican tacos. I mean obviously it's not latin owned but still you'd think there would be some flavor to them. We also ordered a side of beans and rice which were bland compared to what you get at a papasitos, ninfas, or el tiempo. Although the food wasn't that great, we received great service and I did enjoy the horchata and jugo de sandía!
google avatar

Carolyn H.

Yelp
Ate brunch here today and sadly thought our food was just okay. May be back in the future to try it out again. The customer service was great and super kind workers here.
google avatar

Rae S.

Yelp
I love this place!!!! The chicken nachos are my favorite. I live for a loaded taco. The chicken tacos are a close second. It is a cost effective taco spot. There is never a long wait. The people are polite.
google avatar

Noreen R.

Yelp
Love love love Tacos a Go Go. Great breakfast tacos and btw they have authentic barbacoa tacos (made with lamb). The salsas are great and Sonia the queso. Parking is sticky in this area but you can find some in front of the storefront. They have paid parking lots on the corner if you can not find in any front.

Pam S.

Yelp
Do not like changes made. Food is not as good as it was. Employees at order desk were rude. Not returning.

Bradley D.

Yelp
one of my favorite places for a quality taco or quesadilla. great service and ambiance also. Maybe they should check their sauce fridge every now and then because my chipotle crema had an entire colony of mold digesting it. Ruined this place for me for at least a few months.
google avatar

Dee N.

Yelp
Tacos a Go Go is my go to restaurant for always great tacos. The staff is friendly and service is quick.
google avatar

Vanessa Pretty Conceit H.

Yelp
The best tacos I have in Houston this far...everything was fresh and came out pretty quick. I don't even like margaritas but this frozen margarita was thebomb.com. The only down side is they don't have any specials for taco Tuesday so no deals but the food is amazing

Sharon L.

Yelp
Brisket Nachos are overpriced and chopped little pieces of mostly fat. I haven't been here in a long time and it's not as good as it use to be. I don't mind spending money on good nachos but these are no good.
google avatar

Marlynn M.

Yelp
The tacos are not good. I gave it a try since I have lived in the area for 12 + years and never stopped by. I ordered the barbacoa y brisket plate. Yeah, it's definitely a no. The barbacoa tasted bland. The brisket tasted odd then the bbq they put on it doesn't mesh well with the attempt at Mexican flavors. Hence attempt. Rice and beans tasted fake. Out of box and can. The salsa was good.

Molly D.

Yelp
The restaurant itself is very cool. They have an entire separate vegetarian menu with plenty of vegan modifications. I tried 3 vegan tacos and none of them were my cup of tea. I like the concept and vibe but unfortunately felt the food didn't curb my craving. I wound up getting guac tacos from superica and have become thoroughly obsessed. I also kinda feel like the tacos are a lil pricey as I paid over $20 for 3 tacos

Desiree G.

Yelp
I have had an amazing experience this evening. Wonderful customer service. Yummy food. Smiling faces. Help to clear the table. Employee asked if we needed anything which was most appreciated. Cool manager. I will come back. Thank you, Tacos A Go Go!

Yelp
Yummmyyyy! I recently visited Houston and I came here not once but Twice during my stay that's how good these tacos are! Fresh, delicious, and did I mention they have margaritas! This is a top tier place to enjoy a quick bite to eat. I tried the Pollo Guisado, Pastor, Barbacoa, Grilled Shrimp, Crispy Baja Chicken Taco, and Grilled Beef. Everything was amazing. I enjoy the corn tortillas too! They are super fresh. The Pastor and Grilled Beef were my favorites. The Grilled Beef was so tender and it's truly a meaty buttery cut of beef and it is soo good. Oh wait but the Grilled Shrimp might of been my favorite, oh man forgive me but this place has it down to the nail! It is amazing. While your here make sure to order Chips and Queso Quintero (chips with Chorizo Queso). It is really good. I saw another poster mention it was oily... well if you know anything about "Chorizo" it is a flavorful, oily, sausage. The oil brings some flavor and should be expected. Just a heads up but we enjoyed this dip it's very good. Whenever I'm in Houston I will be sure to go here again, it was THAT good!
google avatar

Angela A.

Yelp
This is probably my favorite place to get tacos! I love their chips and salsa the grilled beef, grilled chicken, and pollo guisado tacos. The artistic environment is inviting and the employees are always so helpful. Get to tacos a go go!! Ooo and I think you can get their margaritas to go!!
google avatar

Heather J.

Yelp
was desperately craving a black bean and veggie taco for lunch and tacos a go-go DELIVERED. i ordered the verde taco (obviously) and it was so flavorful and the portions were perfect. it was the first time in my life where i actually enjoyed mushrooms (i hate mushrooms). next time i'm going to get lettuce with it though because it needed a little freshness to break up the deep, mildly spicy flavors. my mom ordered two different meat tacos which she also loved but the chicken was a little dry (i tried a bite and i agree but it was still very tasty). looking forward to coming again for my black bean fix !
google avatar

Jane D.

Yelp
Management is condescending and inappropriate. Food does not meet advertised expectations. Staff is inadequately trained.
google avatar

Jasmin R.

Yelp
I got the dos tacos plate with tacos the carne guisada and they were alright I'll give them a 5/10 they're NOT WORTH the money they are priced . The only good things were the Salsa Verde and refried beans-side that I got. The rice tasted really bland and had barely any flavor. The interior design is pretty nice if you want to take pics for aesthetic reasons but besides that the food is not worth the pricing for me personally.
google avatar

John R.

Yelp
I have always avoided this place as it looked "too Hipster" in my opinion. I finally gave in and gave the a chance, big mistake!!! The only reason I gave them two stars is that the portions are big. If you do not know what Mexican food should taste like this might be the place for you but I will not be coming back!!! The chips used in the nachos are incredibly thin and soggy, meat seemed to have no seasoning. We had to throw away the Barbados Lamb taco as it had a very weird taste. The beef brisket taco was okay but the taco was 75% cabbage/rice and other fillers that really made it not a pleasant experience.
google avatar

Shannon B.

Yelp
Expensive ! However, expected in the heights. Tacos are good sized and generously filled

Ingrid M.

Yelp
Delicious tacos but, man, they are slow slow slow. Tacos a slow-slow! 25 minutes for 7 tacos to go. Cute ambiance ... nice staff...impossible parking I will only order for pick up from now on. We arrived hungry and the wait just made us irritable. When I got them home my husband's shrimp taco was cold. :{
google avatar

Iris S.

Yelp
Honestly, we LOVED this place!!! We were only in Houston for a weekend and we wanted a quick taco place to eat with lots of flavor. I had seen this place online somewhere and we were totally game to try! Firstly, this place is very eclectic and cute- it reminds me a lot of some businesses on Greenville Ave in Dallas. Parking wasn't too bad either, which is why we opted for this location instead of going to downtown. We each chose two tacos, and we shared a soda and chips and queso. Total was $20 plus a tip- since they do come drop off food and picked up our trays too. The menu is so big, and it was tough to pick which tacos to go with. I chose to get the pollo guisado and the carne guisada- basically chicken and beef tacos slow cooked in a tomato sauce. I loved both, but the beef was especially good. My husband chose the grilled beef and grilled chicken tacos and loved both of them as well. THEY WERE LOADED. And he mentioned the guac on the chicken was a standout. The chips and queso were good, we went with the yellow queso - per the suggestion of the woman at the register. She said it was "cheesier". Also- I will mention their soda machine has such unique options. Pineapple! Grape, I believe strawberry, rootbeer... and regular cola as well. The pineapple was SO good and I have no regrets. If we were in the area again, we would totally come back. I wish they had this chain in Dallas!
