CDMX Tacos Review - Soho - London - The Infatuation

"CDMX Tacos has an aesthetic that is best described as the sweet spot between a Shell garage and a minimalist's vision board. While neither of those things are likely to make you think ‘great tacos’, that’s exactly what you’ll find in this no-seating Soho taqueria. Behind the counter, soft tortillas are handmade and a glistening trompo of steaming pork—complete with a pineapple crown—hypnotically rotates to the glee of hungry co-workers. The tacos are packed full of lemony grilled cactus, crispy pork belly, and lip-sizzling salsa verde that you can ladle directly onto your tacos from the bowl on the counter. Our pick of the bunch is the zingy, tender pork and pineapple al pastor taco, best paired with a guava Jarritos. Go solo whenever you're in—or near—Soho for lunch or an early dinner, or with anyone who won’t judge you for shamelessly licking salsa roja off your shirt. photo credit: Daisy Meager" - Heidi Lauth Beasley

Al Pastor with a Kick! 🌮🔥 If you’re in Ithaca and craving authentic, no-frills Mexican flavors, this hidden gem is a must-visit. Stepping inside, you’re greeted with the sizzling sound of fresh tacos being made, the rich aroma of grilled meats, and a cozy, vibrant space that oozes personality. I had the Taco Al Pastor, a perfect balance of smoky, juicy pork, charred just right, topped with sweet pineapple chunks that added a refreshing contrast to the meat’s depth. But the game-changer? Their house-made hot sauce—a fiery, bold kick that tied everything together. One bite in, and it was an explosion of flavors, the spice lingering just enough to make you crave another bite. 🌶️🔥 Beyond the food, the spot itself is a vibe—colorful walls adorned with traditional artwork, a massive mural watching over your meal, and little details that make the space feel both homey and full of culture. It’s the kind of place where food is made with love, and you can taste it in every bite. Whether you’re a taco purist or just on the hunt for a standout meal in Ithaca, this is one spot you don’t want to miss. Authentic, flavorful, and unforgettable. Would you try this Al Pastor taco? Tag your taco-loving crew! 🌮✨

You must try CDMX in Ithaca! It was recommended to by a local. We pretty much had everything here from steak to chorizo to chicken and different combinations with salsas - Loved everything. More than the food, it was an experience watching the tacos cooked in front of you and enjoying the food served on colorful plates and tables sitting outdoor on the commons.

Google
Authentic Mexican tacos at a very convenient and relaxing location. Service was quick. Made the food to order right on the spot. I ordered their chicken tacos with medium hot sauce. Very tasty! Also highly recommend their cilantro limeade.

What an amazing experience! Team was so friendly and attentive. And it turns out that one of their cooks who is from Guatemala, had worked for my husbands father back home!!! Crazy small world! Their tacos and Torta was amazing!

Tacos were so good!!! Tender & full of flavor! I tried 5 of them. Asada, birria, lengua, al pastor & pollo (pollo not pictured). They were a good size & filling. Service was great, line was a bit long but went by quickly. Definitely recommend!

Google
Holy MOLY these are AMAZING. We had the al pastor, carne asada, and lengua tacos. Not only is the flavor good but they also double tortilla and give you so much meat. I got 3 thinking they would be tiny but nope, great portions. Wish I lived closer so that I could go back weekly! Outside seating great for dog owners :) Authentic as it gets. Thank you!

Solid $5 vegan tacos & $2 watermelon agua fresca. Would love an additional vegetarian option.

Yelp
I only tried Tacos Cdmx for the first time a few weeks ago despite being a senior at Cornell, and I'm sad I didn't try them sooner! The place is unassuming, tucked away in Press Bay Alley, but the decor and vibes were great. While there was a line when I first got there, the service was efficient, and the line moved along quickly. Also, there's a nice seating area in the alley with picnic tables for you to enjoy your tacos if it's a warm day. I'm not a great judge of the authenticity of tacos, but I can say with certainty that they were delicious. I would highly recommend getting either birria or chorizo with pineapple on top & hot salsa (medium chipotle sauce was good too).

Yelp
I love this place! Probably the best tacos that I've had in Ithaca so far. I originally came here for Press Cafe but then realized that there was a whole alley. The service was great and the guy at the counter was super friendly. Each taco is $5. The asada tacos that we got tasted amazing. I loved the pineapple topping for some acidity and tartness. It really helped to elevate the flavors. Also, the pineapple decor is super awesome and stayed true to the theme. Definitely a hidden gem in Ithaca, if not THE hidden gem.

Yelp
Great tacos and a chill place to hang for a bit. The tripas tacos are with cheese. They come out pretty fast despite the line, and I'd definitely come back again! It's also conveniently situated next to a coffee shop for those who get coffee cravings after!

Yelp
This is the best tacos I've ever had in New York... but to be fair it's the only taco place I tried in New York.... But it's still one of the best tacos places I've tried overall ... I wish I got MORE beef tongue My friends were like "you like lengua..." and I was like who doesn't love it... it's like a big beefy kiss. So succulent and delicious. Yummy. It's a really small area and we were a pretty big group but the tacos are too delicious and people tend to just inhale it and then go about their business so once our food was ready, seats were available. The staff are friendly and everything was awesome.

Yelp
First time coming after finding out it existed and it was great! Super quick and tasty. Guys there were really friendly and joking around and sitting with some customers. Ithaca Mexican is so lacking and I was happy with the quality. As a student though I realllyyyy wish the tacos were a bit cheaper, even 3 or 4 dollars and I would have easily bought a few but it's Ithaca so I get it. Definitely worth the little trip though!

Yelp
I can't believe I only found out about this place as I was about to move out! Ithaca has always had a taco problem - it has very few Mexican restaurants and even fewer (maybe none!) than can do a decent taco. Well, this is no longer true. Tacos CDMX is here to save the day and here's why: First, they are conveniently located by the Commons. Second, they have an amazing selection of flavors - it's not just 'steak' or 'chicken', but they have Asada, Al Pastor, Chorizo, Lengua, Ribeye, Birria, Chicken. Third, you can add a crispy cheese crust (included) to any taco. Fourth, the staff is really friendly and warm. Fifth, the new location looks very cute. Sixth, and lastly, they now accept credit cards - what's not to like? If you're in the mood for tacos, there's really no contest - you won't regret it!

Yelp
Fantastic Mexican street tacos at this small walk-up-and-order counter. A small menu of choices, all fantastic. Expect to eat about 4 tacos per person for a normal hungry eater. A small handful of seats in the stall, with lots more in the alley outside. Try their homemade cucumber-limeade, it's incredibly refreshing and perfect with the tacos. Prepare to order as follows: 1 - You'll be asked "How many tacos?" This is so they can start your order by placing down the requisite number of tortillas on the griddle. 2 - Next you'll tell them what type of meat you want. 3 - Pineapple? 4 - Salsa? There are three different types ranging from mild to hot. 5 - Onions and cilantro? 6 - Somewhere along the line you'll be asked if it's to stay or to go and how many tacos to put on each tray (depending on who in your party ordered what).

Yelp
The tacos were phenomenal!! Perfectly flavored and spiced. It's also very homey and cute here, the workers were so friendly and hardworking! I want to come back tomorrow!

Yelp
I had the vegetarian tacos made with a soy based product, topped with pineapple - delicious! I also treated myself to a flan and rice pudding which were equally good. Everything tasted so authentic, served quickly and with friendly service. There is a parking sign on Green street in front of the alley that says 15 minute loading limit if you need to park and grab.

Yelp
Fast talking and fast service. Amazing food for the price and very authentic. Pozole was so flavorful and hominy was done perfectly. Every bite was thoroughly enjoyed! I've had al pastor in several places and this is hands down the best flavor with fresh pineapple. My best advise, be prepared when you order and know what you want. Cheese; yes/no. Salsa; mild, medium, or hot. And a check if main ingredients are alright or not. I will be back again and again.

Yelp
So so so good! Tacos are fresh, flavourful and (fairly) cheap. The courtyard is nice too. Parking may be a challenge during academic year, but in summertime it's much easier.

Yelp
First experience at CDMX Tacos in Press Bay Alley: I'm second in line so just standing in line looking at the menu, what beverages are in the fridge and overall decor of the place and I hear shouts at me from the owner: "WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING AT!!!!?" I just ignore that. As the other guy behind the counter making the tacos then asks "how many tacos?" not what kind---I say that I wanted two vegan tacos, and he immediately throws two piles of cheese on the flattop grill. I ask him if that is vegan cheese, of course it wasn't. I'm allergic to dairy--and he didn't seem to be trained to know there is a difference. So I ignore that mix-up for the moment and I ask the owner, who was standing next to him, what is the "vegan taco?". He rudely barks back "IT MEANS NO MEAT" So I ask what is in it and he proceeds to be incredibly rude, never bothering to tell me what the food is he's trying to sell. I don't know the guy. I wasn't walking into a place demanding anything and he just starts berating a potential new customer. Tacos. I was just trying to get a couple tacos--and he's causing chaos. I certainly will NOT go back there. I just walked out without any further interaction with this stranger who decided to be rude to me, the guest. Good luck vegans, you don't know what you'll be eating at CDMX. May he have as much success as he is kind to his guests.

Yelp
Nothing like it in the whole area! You'd have to go to NYC or possibly Syracuse or Rochester to come close. Eduardo and his staff have put together a superb taquería.....the tacos are of course great - and authentic, the set up has enough room for eating inside or out, and of course one gets the chance to practice Spanish if desired :) ¡Estoy muy feliz de que Ithaca tenga tal lugarcito! ¡Muchísimas gracias, Eduardo y equipo!

Yelp
Tucked away in Pressbay Alley, they do tacos and do them well! Quality ingredients and Perfect preparation! Probably the best tacos I've eaten!

Yelp
I would consider this authentic tacos. If you've never been to a place owned and operated by immigrants, or if you're a sensitive person who doesn't understand other cultures, maybe you'll have a hard time here. Orders are fast: choose your taco, filling, and salsa, and then you're on your way. No fuss, no muss. My wife has a severe gluten allergy and we have never had a problem. The first time we went, my wife asked, "there's no flour, is there?" And the owner said, "haha no, only corn. We are Mexicans!" The owner always offers my daughter a little piece of fruit and jokes around with her while we're waiting. It's a small place with limited seating, maybe 2 indoor tables, but on nice days there's plenty of seating in the alley. It's basically a food truck that never moves. I'd go here everyday if I lived closer.

Yelp
Excellent food, very authentic. A true gem in any city, and an absolute miracle in a place as small and remote as Ithaca.

Yelp
Best tacos I've had in my life so far, and perhaps the best tacos I will ever have. $5 a taco, a great deal for perfection.

Yelp
Eduardo greeted us and made our family of 5 feel right at home. The tacos were excellent and the pozzole was rich, tasty and the perfect dish for a cold, rainy evening.

Yelp
Delicious chorizo tacos w/ pineapple!!! The real thing. Very tasty. The spicy sauce is definitely spicy!!!! Also have a refreshing cucumber/lemonade. Excellent service. Have several umbrella tables to sit at. Very pleasant atmoasphere.

Yelp
Loved the food! So glad they have a permanent location now! I'm a big fan of pineapple, but had never had it on tacos before but it's so good!
