Tacos Chukis Brings Its Biggest Restaurant Yet to the Central District | Eater Seattle

"Opening Saturday, October 13, the Capitol Hill–born taqueria Tacos Chukis will debut its biggest location yet at 2203 E Union; owner Roberto Salmeron said he was putting the finishing touches and aimed to unlock the doors at 5 p.m. (or earlier if everything fell into place). The new restaurant will seat around 50 people at the base of a mixed-use building at 23rd and Union, and the larger kitchen will serve as headquarters for his other restaurants. The menu and operating hours will match the other locations, anchored by the signature pork adobada taco topped with melted cheese, guacamole, and grilled pineapple, alongside quesadillas, tortas, and burritos. After the opening, the restaurant will adopt regular daily hours of 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., following a period of expansion that included South Lake Union in 2016 and Beacon Hill earlier this year." - Megan Hill

Google
Tacos Chukis has been one of my favorite taco places since forever. They’re small but mighty and they pretty much focus only on tacos which they have perfected. Plump, generously stuffed tacos and mulitas and fresh homemade sauce. And their prices are affordable especially in these economic times. I usually order 3 and that’s more than enough for lunch or dinner. Total came to $11 and this post-tariff pricing.

Google
I ordered 3 different tacos including the house taco. Having had some incredible tacos in my life these were a bit of a let down. The flavors weren’t developed. The guacamole sauce came across more as a tomatillo salsa. For $10 it’s affordable but may be worth spending a bit more somewhere else.

Small fast food Mexican restaurant in Seattle Washington.Food is ok and menu is limited vegetarian tacos were good.

Google
Delicious, flavorful tacos! The menu is reasonably priced for Seattle. Great location with easy parking in front. This Tacos Chukis has been there for several years and seems to only get better with time. A very casual fast-food atmosphere and super clean.

Google
This Taco Chukis location is a convenient Mexican restaurant for the area and quite easy to self order at. There is alcohol available although you'll need to speak with someone for that, and the variety of food options was nice. It's not the most exciting Mexican food, but the baby burritos are awesome portion sizes and everything we tried was well above average. Would come back for a casual lunch/dinner.

Google
TLDR: Come for the meat. The food is really affordable here which makes it a good place to come if you’re on a budget and eat meat. I say this because both their vegetarian options are not as great - they nice enough but I know places where the veg tacos are better, so I’d rather go there instead. On the other hand, all of their other tacos are absolutely amazing and super flavorful. Service is quick and we were in and out of there in 25 minutes.

Google
Solid causal place for tacos. There is ac! -1 star for putting cilantro on my food even when I hit the no cilantro button. you can order up front or on the tablet. You take a number and they will drop off the food at your table. The horchata was underwhelming. It taste like powder and kind of watery. Food came out within 10 minutes. You bus your own tables. When I was there I didn't see the tables get wiped down. There is no parking lot. You can park on union but probably easier to park on the side streets.

Andrea H.

Google
Ordered carne asada and chicken tacos and a taco chukis. Everything was sooo good except their salsa and guacamole is spicy. The pineapple on the taco chukis taco was incredible and went so well with the pork. Only bad thing was they forgot to remove the salsa when i requested for it. Atmosphere was lively around 6 pm and the tacos were about $3 each (so good!!).

Simon

Yelp
1. Great tacos 2. Great Quesadillas 3. GREAT guacamole 4. Great horchata Dare I say my experience was busting

Yelp
The food is great, but the music is so freaking loud I can't hear my wife talking who is standing right next to me. It as so freaking loud! It's not the first time I've experienced this at Taco Chili's. Not recommended for dining in. Order their delicious food for pick up/take out only unless you want to go deaf from the overwhelmingly loud music. Geez, turn it down! I also dislike the ordering kiosk that takes away a human's job, but considering how loud the music is, no wonder they rely on a computer to take orders.

Yelp
I recently visited Tacos Chukis, and it was so yummy! The baby burrito with steak was flavorful and satisfying, and the pollo quesadilla was equally delicious. The fresh ingredients and friendly service made this spot a standout. Highly recommended! There's limited seating and only street parking so plan ahead!
google avatar

Yelp
The service was quick but part of my four taco order being wrong there was a piece missing in my experience. The portions are good but the taco meat was quite dried out and there wasn't anything that stuck out as amazing to counterbalance very dried up taco meat. How hard is it to keep a souvee of beef broth to keep the meet tender and juicy. This meat wasn't cut right before service as is the custom, it was cut hours ago and kept under warming lamps. I'll pass coming back... there is a vegan pizza place up the street I want to try

Yelp
Go-to spot for tacos and quesadillas! Prices when we went: -steak quesadilla $5.50/ea -taco asada $2.75/ea I recommend just getting quesadillas. For the value, you get melted cheese and essentially a yummy taco x 2. Street parking only. Can be tough during peak hours.
google avatar

Ashley F.

Yelp
The tacos were great! The pineapples were warm and grilled adding more flavor to your tacos. The salsas had just enough kick, but not too much where you need water. The chicken had so much flavor and the steak meat was good quality. The food was served pretty quick too. We visit here every time we come to Seattle. A+++ Ps. The bathroom was very clean 7/1/24

Yelp
As someone who loves tacos and a California native, these tacos and mullitas are delicious. The carne asada and adobada is so flavorful and tender. I love that they offer nopales as a vegetarian option, never been to a place that offers this too. Plus the pricing is very adorable in comparison to other places I have gone. Service was quick and the ambiance had Mexican music to go along with the tacos.
google avatar

Mar K.

Yelp
If you've never been to Tacos Chukis on Beacon Hill -- it's the best of the best. For $2.75-$3.20 you can get a Carnitas a.k.a. pork taco with a chunk of pineapple ($ .50 for the cheese) onions, cilantro, salsa. I asked for extra cilantro. Holy cow. There's so much happiness in six and a half dollars worth of food...you have no idea. Every bite is perfection. I could eat this every day. And if it's after work, you add a can of cold Tecate for $5. Service is always great -- friendly and Swift. The place is always clean. You bus your own trays.

Yelp
These are my favorite tacos Seattle has to offer! The food is flavorful and fresh. The house taco is what dreams are made of, protein forward with fresh pineapple, I could just cry thinking about it. It's a must order if it's your first time. The menu is simple. There's a taco for everyone. Ordering is easy, and I love all the Mexican soda options available! The service is quick, and this location specifically is new, modern and clean.

Yelp
House tacos with the pineapple chunks and the baby burrito always hit! If I have a aching for tacos and im in the area, then im stopping in. I parked along the street, placed my order, and left within 5 minutes with my food!
google avatar

Rach C.

Yelp
It's good, but not the best Mexican I've tried. Portions are pretty small but place inside is pretty spacious. Wasn't memorable the first time, so went to try it again to give another shot, but probably won't be going back soon. Might be going to chipotle
google avatar

Yelp
The tacos and quesadillas are delish! Pineapple and pork are a Tacos Chukis special. And the guacamole sauce is a steal at $.23.

Yelp
Let's taco'bout Tacos Chukis... I found myself coming here with two colleagues when I was in the Seattle area recently taking a Thai Massage workshop. We had a one hour break for lunch and this was one of the few restaurants close by. I LOVE tacos but these were not even close to the best tacos I've had. They were okay though and I was hungry so I ate them. The taco meat was so-so, not as fresh as other Mexican restaurants, and I ordered a side of beans and the beans I received certainly weren't what I expected.. they were beans but they did not look or taste appealing whatsoever. They were pretty dried out and lacked in the flavor department. I'd say Taco Chuckis gets points for effort and guac included free on the tacos which is always a plus in my book- oh and they have the Jamaica (hibiscus)drink which is something I enjoy. Overall, If I were to come into this area again I'd skip Tacos Chukis and either get something to eat at the grocery store across the street from here or check out the nearby Chinese place instead.
google avatar

Dave S.

Yelp
The place smells like bleach. This is consistent over time. I've started ordering for pick up even when I would have preferred to dine in. It's too bad because the tacos are good.
google avatar

Kevin T.

Yelp
Go-to spot for a snack The Chuki tacos are a must - good char flavor and the sauce and pineapple combo make this an obvious #1 order on their menu The mini burritos and mulitas are both heavy underrated - can't go wrong with any pick of meat although I personally go with carne or pollo The parking can get pretty hairy since it's on 23rd but you can usually find something close by Cheers, Tacos Chukis

Yelp
Taco Chukis was an appropriate and convenient stop at after having a few at the local drinking spot. The menu here is pretty simple but the young lady at the register was very nice and gladly helped me with some suggestions. I went with pair of Carne Asada tacos and a pair of "Taco Chukis", house tacos. They were small but full, with great presentation, particularly with the nice helping of guac on top of the Carnes and a nice slice of pineapple on the house tacos. It all came to a little over $13 so not bad at all for a single order. Taco Chukis has a very new 'look' inside. With seating of various types, including outdoor, it looks very inviting as it sits in intersection in Central District. So overall. Pretty good tacos, at a cool looking spot, after drinks. Would come back for sure.

Yelp
The. Best. Tacos. The adobada is so amazing. Loaded with guac and chunks of pineapple. Also got a mulita with the pork and it was the best mulita I've ever had. Not too heavy and full of flavor. 15/10 recommend. EDIT: can confirm it is just as delicious leftover microwaved while eating with your best friend.

Yelp
Delicious food that is incredibly filling for cheap. Anytime I come here the food is always great. This place is very nice with lots of seating and lots of light coming in. We ordered on the kiosk up front since there wasn't a cashier when we came in, but nonetheless our food was brought out quickly. Parking is a bit difficult to find but this place offers great mexican food so it's definitely worth checking out!
google avatar

Brooke W.

Yelp
Came here for a quick lunch while in the neighborhood and it didn't disappoint. The menu is pretty simple - I will say I was unsure of the size of the burrito and quesadilla since the price was so low so I kept it simple with tacos. After ordering at the front the food came out very fast. The meat was flavorful, the sauce was a great addition, and the pineapple on the pastor tacos was fresh. There wasn't anything incredibly special about them, but for a standard street taco they hold up. My friend got a quesadilla, which was pretty small so ordering 2 might have been the move, but she enjoyed it as well. This is a great spot if you're looking for a chill vibe and some cheap Mexican food!
google avatar

Connie A.

Yelp
This location is probably one of the most spacious with plenty of seating but I noticed most customers ordered to-go instead of dining in. Spotless and incredibly friendly and helpful staff. I typically order the house special tacos (pork and asada are both delicious) because that slice of grilled pineapple makes a tremendous difference. 4 tacos come out to be just over $12. Taste is always consistent and I remain a tacos chukis fan!
google avatar

Kimberly C.

Yelp
I wanted tacos on a Tuesday so I came here to celebrate Taco Tuesday. Taco Chukis has very good tacos (try their taco chukis if you like pineapple) and quesadillas! Their quesadillas come with meat (+ cheese)!
google avatar

Joanne S.

Yelp
3.5/5 We tried their taco chukis which is like Al pastor which comes with grilled pineapple, guacamole, and some kind of white cheese (not sure if it's mozzarella). I was thrown off by the cheese... didn't feel like it added to the taco. 3/5 The asada taco was a lot better which came with guacamole and salsa. It reminds me of LA tacos. We also got the asada mini burrito which came with lots of protein! 4/5 Ambiance: modern, clean Mexican restaurant. Casual with lots of seating and natural light from all their floor to ceiling windows. Overall will maybe come again if we're in the area. Parking was not great. We parked in the neighborhoods and walked over.

K C.

Yelp
Tacos are good, but they use way too much cleaning solution in the restaurant, place smells like pine sol.

JP A.

Yelp
This place.... is a miss. Makes me miss CA where you can get a decent taco just about anywhere. Cold, dry meat. Tortillas that are so cold they break while you try and eat. Seasonings that are probably just dried oregano. This place needs some help. Trust me white Seattle.... this ain't it.
google avatar

Jonathan B.

Yelp
I can order online, put my shoes on, cross the street to Chukis, go in and look for my name on the to go order bag, make eye contact, nod and say my name, they say thank you, I do too, I leave with tacos. Hands down the easiest food getting process within walking distance of my building. They are consistent. The times when I have interacted more with staff, they are always kind and courteous. Also the tortillas are HANDMADE which will keep me dedicated. I kinda wish you could order 'stuff' to put in the burritos and tacos. That would probably ruin the business model and slow everything down. I go to PCC across the street to buy house made salsa and organic chips. I get salad mix to stuff in the tacos. MONEY! So good.... Get grilled pineapple on everything. I focus on the tacos and burritos. They have a couple other things offered that you may like.
google avatar

Yelp
I had the carne asada tacos and they were pretty good and flavourful! I loved how they come with the sauce. I think taco chukis is a great spot to grab some casual lunch. The restaurant is super clean and inviting. If you want to dine by yourself it's the perfect spot.

Yelp
Food (4/5): The go-to taco place in Seattle. Grabbing a couple of their hose tacos are amazing after a long day of work. The sweetness and juice of the pineapple give it a good kick with the meat and salsa on a well-grilled tortilla. Every house taco always hits the spot. It is absolutely mouthwatering. The tacos are affordable with tacos between $2-$4 and other menu items less than $15. Service: (4/5): Ordering was an easy process with a wait of 15 minutes to order. The wait for the tacos is approximately 20 minutes which was longer than expected. They only do takeout. Parking (2/5): Finding parking was difficult because they don't have a parking lot. You can only park on the street which is residential. I definitely would lay out time to find parking at this location. - Please vote below, comment, and like the photos to give me feedback on my reviews - For more reviews and photos, follow my instagram: @nvc.eats

Yelp
Insanely good food. Everything else is a cherry on top! The Excellent staff. Great for groups. Awesome prices. Clean. There's even a 15 and 30 min parking just outside and a few other parking spots. I still remember when the original location opened in Capitol Hill! It was always insanely busy! This is a local favorite. So happy have have so many locations now! Today I ordered a baby burrito, their house tacos, kearny Asada taco, adobado taco and 2 horchatas! Highly recommend this place!
google avatar

Rhiannon K.

Yelp
Delicious, as always! This is my favorite taco spot, though I have always gone to their other location. This was my first time here since my bf wanted to get tacos too. I'm pretty boring and only get the house tacos but they're amazing! Especially the grilled pineapple and whatever salsa or guac they use. It's soo delicious! Both locations are spot on! I do like the aesthetic of this location and it's much easier to find. I came during covid so there was no inside seating but they are doing a great job at keeping everyone safe.

Brian C.

Yelp
best tacos in Seattle cant go wrong coming here their food is amazing i would totally come here over and over

Yelp
I was looking for a new place to eat lunch in the Seattle area, I drive past this Tacos Chukis 2-3 times a week and thought I would give it a try. And....WOW!! Best tacos I have ever had!! I highly recommend coming here. This is now on my list of places for lunch each week!! The prices are outstanding! The food came out Super Quick! Order the Chukis Taco! It's is amazing!!!! Only one recommendation, I wish they had Chips and Salsa to snack on! I will be returning and telling my peers at work about this place!! Open more locations!!!
google avatar

Yelp
This place is amazing. I recently moved here from San Diego and this is the closest to Tijuana Street tacos you're going to find in Washington.

Yelp
I always hate the statement "You can't find good X in this city". It usually means one of two things, I have very particular tastes and am looking for something very specific or I'm nostalgic for a local gem in a place that I used to live. I hear "You can't find good tacos in Seattle" all the time. There is something about street food that is perfect in it's basic nature. There often feels like this need to "elevate" and make it into something grand to differentiate one place from another, which has it's place, but sometimes you just want a simple well made, cheap, delicious taco. This is where Taco Chukis excels, they just have damn good tacos. We have taken friends from California here (they tend to be the most picky about tacos), who raise an inquisitive eyebrow when we tell them we have legit tacos within walking distance. Every time they leave thoroughly impressed. If you've never been, everything on the small menu is worth trying so get one of each, and it is recommended to get your tacos Chukis style. The line can be long and daunting at peak hours but they operate well and move though the orders quick and it is worth the wait. Full disclosure I haven't actually ever had Tacos here, as they are not celiac (gluten) friendly. The flour and corn tortillas are all cooked/prepped on the same space, and when I inquired as to if they could be kept separate I was met with hesitancy, which is fine, I understand how disruptive modifications can be. My husband, however, loves this place so much he is there at least twice a week so I'm writing this as a proxy for him. I would have given a 5 star for this place based on my husbands experiences here, but the fact that when I inquired about gluten they said yes they were gluten free and then mentioned a bunch of ingredients which had nothing to do with gluten. I don't mind if I can't eat somewhere due to my allergy but when I mention it's an allergy it is better to caution on the side of No or I don't know.

Yelp
Delicious tacos abound and await you! We've been here a couple times now and have tried their tacos only so far. What they say about the house tacos chukis is true - tasty bites all around! The blend of pork adobada, pineapple, melted cheese, salsa and guacamole is a simple yet mouthwatering symphony. With the addition of chopped cilantro and onions, the entire bite is complete. :) We've also got their carne asada and pollo tacos and enjoyed them. Their baby burritos, quesadillas, tortas, and mulitas look great so will definitely try those next time. Prices are extremely affordable at $2.35-$2.75 for tacos and tortas at $8.25. This location is easy to get to and fairly easy to find parking. With the pandemic, they are take out only, and love that they take the guidelines seriously. Love the fun, vibrant and colorful interior design space, so I imagine pre-pandemic this was a fun hang out. If you want to grub immediately, there is a small counter top outside that can fit 2-3 people safely. Otherwise, 10 minutes is all you have to wait for some yummy street tacos!

Yelp
I'm a fan of Tacos Chukis, so when my friend asked if we could go to Tacos Chukis since it was her first time, it was a no-brainer! We were meeting up in the Central District where she lives, so I was glad to know there was a CD location of this beloved Seattle chain. And nothing has changed. The food still hits the spot. Location was spacious and clean with plenty of seating despite the place getting increasingly busy the longer we dined in. It's right off of a bus route, too, which is how I got here, so the accessibility is no complaints. I ordered a quesadilla and a house taco, which were both solid. Ya gotta have a house taco if you haven't had one before, as the pork is always so flavorful with the sweetness from the grilled pineapple on top. I ordered my quesadilla with the pork meat, which is my favorite meat at Tacos Chukis. It was flavorful, and was especially tasty with the melted cheese on the tortilla and all the goodies, sandwiched together. Menu is straightforward with a few items and a few protein options with housemade juices. Glad there's a Tacos Chukis in the Central District, an area that's super easy to get to, even for those outside of the Seattle city limits. Parking is easy to find with tons of street parking, but take advantage of the bus stop super close to Tacos Chukis. Convenient or dangerous? Perhaps both.

Yelp
Quick service...great prices...sooo good! Sooo spicy!!! Sooo yummy!! The kiddo is getting the hang of eating spicy food!!! Slowly becoming a MAN!!! Slowly but surely hahaha! The favorite part is my kiddo loves this place too!!! We drive about 50min to get our fix!!! So worth the drive.

Yelp
Tacos Chukis' new home in the ever so changing Central District has been a great surprise! I had no idea that there was more then one location. Turns out there are now 4. I've been to the one on Broadway when I first moved down. My SO had claimed that they were the best tacos since he moved from LA to Seattle. I don't remember my first experience at the Broadway location, but eating at the new location in CD has brought back my love for cheap and delicious flavours. The menu is kept simple like the other locations. Why mess with a good thing? Tacos with your choice of chicken, beef, pork, grill prickly pear cactus or vegetarian all kept under $3. Including their house taco with pork and pineapple. A side from the tacos, I had also ordered a beef Mulatas (a cheesy taco sandwich) and the Nopal Asado. The Nopal Asado is a basically everything in a taco but instead of the tortillas shells they have the grilled cactus leaf and your choice of meat piled on top. Is it the best tacos I've had? Probably not. But the best I've had in Seattle and under $3? YES. I'll definitely be coming back for my taco fix! Thanks Tacos Chukis for being delicious!

Jackie S.

Yelp
Awful service! Terrible experience. Would not recommend. The only way the food taste ok is if you add cheese. Very inconsistent.
google avatar

Jun Li Z.

Yelp
baby burritos with pollo (chicken) or adobada (pork) is the way to go here! I came here twice in the last day (once for dinner last night and lunch today after a workout)! I recommend paying an extra $0.15 for the grilled pineapple so that it evens out the chicken (it can be a bit dry). I would come here because it's cheap, relatively fast (expect to wait about 10 minutes for your food - so recommend ordering online first), and delicious! Feels authentic and you don't have to worry about waiting in long lines at the fast food ones. This location is a bit more quiet with seating.
google avatar

Shirin B.

Yelp
The definition of authentic - tacos chukis hits hard with the flavorful salsas and their cheesy mulitas. They definitely could add more salsa, chopped onions, and other veggies but there was definitely way too many frijoles (beans). Might be an ideal place for meat lovers, since I'm used to cal-mex type cuisine.
google avatar

Jack C.

Yelp
Tacos Chukis is arguably known for having the best tacos in the Seattle Area with their unique spin by throwing a grilled pineapple on top of their signature house tacos. I haven't seen anywhere else do this before and I lived in Texas for a year, the Mecca for Tex-Mex The grilled pineapple on top actually works really well. It brings a nice acidity in addition to the lime and makes the taco light and refreshing Pineapples still don't belong on pizza though, thank you for coming to my TED Talk
google avatar

Brian E.

Yelp
I'd say the food was surprisingly good. Well seasoned and the pork taco with fresh pineapple was definitely worth a try. Pricing is premium for sure for the small amount of food. New storefront concrete and steel cafe style is modern, but not too comfortable.
google avatar

Mimi V.

Yelp
Convenient location within walking distance from Central District. This place is cleaner and more modern than the Caphill one. There are more seatings and orders come out faster; however, the food doesn't taste as good imo. They don't serve rice here so no arroz in yo burrito. And horchata is $2.70 which costs more than one regular taco at $2.35. Don't expect authentic food here if you had real mexican food before.
google avatar

Vanessa V.

Yelp
I really like Tacos Chukis, but really felt that this location didn't measure up to the Cap Hill location, in terms of quality and taste. This spot is definitely more calm and you probably won't have to wait in line for a long time, which is always nice! I love the adobada tacos which comes with pineapple. The carne asada tacos here were a bit dry in my opinion. Wish the tacos came with corn tortilla instead of flour. I'm not sure if there's a parking lot, but noticed that street parking is easy to find. If you've never been here, I would definitely try the Cap Hill location to get the real experience! :)
google avatar

Lynn S.

Yelp
Chili's saved us! Family of 10 air Bnb ing it, sat night no deliveries or reservations in sight until we found Chukis. Cactus leaves, chicken and steak tacos and burritos, rustic beans. Man o man that was delish! A grateful gang will be back.
google avatar

Kevin B.

Yelp
Best tacos in Seattle hands down there Tacos Chukis taco is my favorite it's a perfect mix of sweet-and-sour and if you're looking for in my opinion the best place for a Taco in Seattle hit up any of the Tacos Chukis locations they've got a bunch of them all around the city
google avatar

Ashley C.

Yelp
It's really hard to find good authentic Mexican food in Seattle. I grew up in Southern California where good Mexican food is just a stone's throw away. I have had this while I was still eating meat and more recently, as a vegetarian. For what you have in the area, this place is decent and will satiate your cravings. The mulita (photo) is like a quesadilla but replace the flour tortillas with corn. I chose the filling to be beans and they were whole, in other words not mashed or refried. So the mulita had nice texture overall. The nopal taco was as good as a nopal taco can get. It is pretty sour. If you've never had cactus before, it has a very slimy texture (think okra) and may require some getting used to. But it doesn't have a whole lot of flavor itself. I appreciate that this place has options for vegetarians. It's open seating. You get a number and they will bring you the food. It's quick service. When they get busy though, it may take time for them to clear tables so I had to sit at a big long table next to people... yes, next to random people! But they were cool tho.
google avatar

Yuri Y.

Yelp
Good, cheap tacos. Better tortilla would make the tacos even better. I tried all 3 tacos. They were all good but the adobada (pork) was my favorite. The pineapple was definitely a highlight. You probably want to be explicit about wanting them if you do, because my first round of tacos did not come with the pineapple.
google avatar

Jessica M.

Yelp
First time being at this new location! Food here is consistent with the Capital Hill location but has much more seating and is easier for street parking. I prefer the quesadillas over the tacos because it's a bit more substantial, but I can't miss out on the pineapple so I add them to my order! So good with that addition! My friend on the other hand stuck with the classic house taco and chicken taco. Tacos Chuckis is always a solid choice for lunch, dinner, or a snack and it won't hurt your wallet. Def recommended and I'll be returning!
