I always hate the statement "You can't find good X in this city". It usually means one of two things, I have very particular tastes and am looking for something very specific or I'm nostalgic for a local gem in a place that I used to live. I hear "You can't find good tacos in Seattle" all the time.
There is something about street food that is perfect in it's basic nature. There often feels like this need to "elevate" and make it into something grand to differentiate one place from another, which has it's place, but sometimes you just want a simple well made, cheap, delicious taco. This is where Taco Chukis excels, they just have damn good tacos. We have taken friends from California here (they tend to be the most picky about tacos), who raise an inquisitive eyebrow when we tell them we have legit tacos within walking distance. Every time they leave thoroughly impressed. If you've never been, everything on the small menu is worth trying so get one of each, and it is recommended to get your tacos Chukis style. The line can be long and daunting at peak hours but they operate well and move though the orders quick and it is worth the wait.
Full disclosure I haven't actually ever had Tacos here, as they are not celiac (gluten) friendly. The flour and corn tortillas are all cooked/prepped on the same space, and when I inquired as to if they could be kept separate I was met with hesitancy, which is fine, I understand how disruptive modifications can be. My husband, however, loves this place so much he is there at least twice a week so I'm writing this as a proxy for him. I would have given a 5 star for this place based on my husbands experiences here, but the fact that when I inquired about gluten they said yes they were gluten free and then mentioned a bunch of ingredients which had nothing to do with gluten. I don't mind if I can't eat somewhere due to my allergy but when I mention it's an allergy it is better to caution on the side of No or I don't know.
