The Best Dishes Eater LA Editors Ate in 2024 | Eater LA

"Tucked in the parking lot foregrounding Dreamworld Comics in Culver City, Tacos del Valle, a taco operation that has been servicing the Westside for nearly two decades, serves rich Oaxacan fare to comic book aficionados, locals, and drivers passing by. A visit typically requires a taco or few, but regulars know that the menu’s real prizes lie in its behemoth tlayudas, served folded on a plate with tasajo, chorizo, and cecina, and the thick, chewy memelas, which are painted with refried beans and roped with quesillo. All meats are fired on the charcoal grill that butts against the sidewalk; an abstract splash of green and red salsas and handful of buttery radishes round out the perfect plate. — Nicole Adlman, cities manager" - Eater Staff

Google
good music and good food! definitely a great place to stop by. Lunch time they have the taco truck! Asada & Al Pastor my top favorites!

Arthur Trusov

Google
Tacos de Valle al Carbón delivers big flavor with a no-frills, street-style charm that hits the spot. The grilled meats are the star here—especially the carne asada and al pastor, both juicy and packed with smoky flavor straight off the charcoal grill. Tortillas are fresh, toppings are simple and on-point, and the salsas bring the right amount of heat. It’s clear they care more about quality food than fancy presentation, and that’s totally fine by me. The only reason it’s not a full 5 stars is the wait—things can move a bit slow during peak hours, and seating is limited. Still, once the food hits your hands, you forget all that. Plus, it is expensive ish. It’s a must-visit if you love tacos with real flavor cooked over fire. Just show up hungry and maybe bring a friend to hold your spot in line

I was biking down Venice Boulevard when I came across this lively food truck and had to stop. Loved the street food, homely ambience that this truck has that is so often missing in the states! The tortas were delicious and I absolutely loved the authentic hot chocolate con concha! The hot cocoa really tasted just like the hot chocolate I had had in Mexico.

Google
I don’t understand why more people aren’t coming here. They seriously have the best carne asada in LA. Like by a lot. Check this place out. Cheaper than most taco stands too. Good vibe, lots of parking and seating. Hidden gem!

Google
a bit on the pricey side (for the tlayuda it’s worth it). decent tacos good (you can get better ones elsewhere) tlayuda but the one thing u guys should watch out for is that they either add pork fat or maybe they just didn’t clean where they cooked a diff meat so it transferred. my whole mouth was coated w/ pork fat when i ate my tacos :/ (used up three lemons just to raven it out which didn’t rly help) BUT the one thing that saved it was the crepe station next to it (added a star bc of them). soooo good 1000/10 would recommend plus they give a ton of fruit which u don’t see very often. love them.

Google
Best Oaxacan food in the area, without a doubt. The bellowing smoke from the bbq can be heard and smelled from blocks away, which is what grabbed our initial attention. The highlight here is certainly the Clayuda, as everyone else was eating that. In general though, the meat here is seasoned to perfection. Open Wed to Sat evenings only.

Google
Went for the good reviews but wasn't impressed, especially for the location. Al pastor was kind of bland and rubbery.

RIchard Rocha

Google
So I am in town for a couple days and really wanted some tacos. They were the closest spot and easy to find that said, the tacos were ok. The meat is a bit dry and I really dislike having to make my own taco. I don’t know that I would go back. That said, the service was good and the portions are more than ample.

Yelp
I've been searching for the best taco for 40 years. Criteria: excellent salsa, hand-pressed corn tortillas, excellent kind service, plenty of salsa for those salsa nuts like me, a variety of salsas, barbecued smoked meat. Free chips $$ reasonably priced hand pressed corn tortillas 97/100 Salsa variety and quantity 100/100 Meat 100/100 Free chips yes and tasty

Yelp
Terrible if they gave it to me and paid me, I wouldn't need it again not only is the food bag, but they also charge you and the guy groomed under the charcoal area dump the trash with the same hands. He moved the container for the meat that they put on the grill. God helped me. I hope I don't get sick.

Yelp
This place was GREAT! Friend and I shared a clayuda with asada and a memela with pollo. Everything was excellent, it was made fresh, the salsa on the table was INCREDIBLE. The price was great and the serving sizes were generous. Awesome option for anyone in the area.

Yelp
best Tuesday tacos!! the asada was so tender and delicious! but for the money, you're gonna be fed! and they clear a space for quick pick up! my new Joint!

Yelp
Yum!!!! I had the carne asada, Al pastor and chicken tacos. Also had a chicken quesadilla. It was delicious. The salsas are really good too. I'll definitely keep this on the rotation. Yum!!!

Jose J.

Yelp
Food wasn't all that great they give you chips that are stall the torta bread was old it would break apart like it was a cookie $1 charge for using your card and the prices they have are display aren't the prices.

Bobby S.

Yelp
Chorizo and chicken are AMAZING! The salsas are incredibly flavorful. Memlas are chef's kiss! I've only had 5-star food here. 11/10 recommend
google avatar

Yelp
This place looks poppin but not sanitary. Tried it for the first time tonight. The woman who cooked the tortillas kept coughing into the food. Yes she had a mask on but her face was pointed towards the food since she was cooking. The guy who takes your order and touched the machine and money will help rip the string cheese with his bare hands without a mask on.
google avatar

Yelp
AMAZINGGGGG FOOD!!! Everything was absolutely delicious. I will be coming back for sure!

Yelp
We just moved back to the area (yessssss) and we're craving tacos on our way home after the bar. My usual truck is the one closer to the library but this one had a crowd, so we went to check it out. I ordered a California burrito and omg it was so delicious. You can tell that the inside of the burrito was all cooked together on the grill 10/10 My bf ordered the tasajo nachos and a carne asada quesadilla. He liked both! Next time we will phone in our order!!

Yelp
Called them the night before getting to an Airbnb with 6 others and they came through in the clutch! Gustavo was incredibly helpful and provided amazing customer service. He helped me feed a group of 7 last minute with delicious carne asada and chicken tacos. His salsa were fresh, spicy, and authentic. To top it off he had a whole side box with utensils, napkins, plates, jalapeños, carrots, and cilantro and onion. Our expectations were exceeded and all for a great price. Highly recommend you stop by!

Yelp
I order the Taco del Valle !!! Excellent taste , a whole meal in one taco , red salsa very tasty , green salsa a bit spicier definitely come back and try something else maybe or not the taco just got me , my son ordered the Tlayuda mixta great flavor very good quality chorizo. Respect for the Ladies working Thursday night December 17, also got a champurrado not thick or too runny just perfect (for my taste)but definitely recommended. If you you are in the hunt for good flavor this is the place to go to!!

Jasmine S.

Yelp
We had menudo, quesobirria, chiles gueros rellenos, and the sushi tray everything was amazing! Wish we could rate more than 5 stars, you won't be disappointed. Customer service was also on point

Yelp
As a Mexican food expert specializing in burritos, tacos, y quesadillas I was not impressed in the least bit. I had a carne burrito that I don't even recall tasting at all, however the portion size was memorable. The service was impeccable though, I showed the guy my yelp check-in which gave me a free taco of my choice. After forgetting to put in the free taco, he deducted 2 dollars from the total which he didn't have to do. There weren't any prices up so I guess they can charge you whatever they want depending on the side of the bed they wake up on. A little sketchy at first, but the that was brought to a halt when the guy gave me money back. It was clear it's not about the money for them. If you love Mexican food, this Truck isn't for you. However, if Mexican food isn't your forte then you will manage.

Yelp
The best mexican food around- barbacoa is off the charts! never disappoints - call ahead, ready when we get there!

Yelp
After FIVE years I finally found Tacos that compare to my grandmas homemade tacos in Texas!!! Hands down the BEST taco truck I've been to while living here. I honestly gave up even looking... I don't live as close to Leo's as I used to but even if I did, I would come here. Better than Leo's! Yep, I said it!!! Wow just WOW!
google avatar

Mirian J.

Yelp
It's really good I like all the sauce specially the white onion chopped cilantro confor food I like everything on it
google avatar

Gloria H.

Yelp
Love Tacos Del Valle. I use them for events at Venice High School and USC. Just delicious!

Richard A.

Yelp
Everything on the menu is fantastic! Great food great prices and absolutely great friendly service! Call ahead and take home or eat there if you like, more than worth your time!

Yelp
Horrible customer service. They were out of rice when we arrived. No problem, we asked if they could replace the rice for chips and they said no, they'd have to charge us extra $$. So then we asked well what could they do to replace, and they said nothing. Obviously if you're at OUT of rice, exchanging for chips is an obvious and CHEAP exchange, but they wouldn't do it. Won't be back and strongly don't recommend. They obviously don't understand common and easy business standards.

German A.

Yelp
The food is good but I always go for My cemita I 100% recommend it. And I also like ther tacos of asada
google avatar

Evelina C.

Yelp
One of the better taco trucks in Mar Vista. Came here at 1am and it was packed. Not Leo's packed but busy for a taco truck none the less. There's a very minimal menu with the standard burritos, tacos, quesdilla, nachos, Tortas. We ordered one carne asada super burrito and one pastor super burrito with carne asada nachos. Carne asada is a little dry in my opinion. Pastor is the way to go. Add sour cream forsure for a better flavor profile and texture. Nachos were a definite skip!
google avatar

Yelp
I loooooove this food truck. Honestly I've only ever got the been and cheese burrito w green sauce but it's by far the best bean and cheese burrito around. Perfect tortilla, beans and extra cheese! I even eat meat but I got this burrito the first time and come back for it every time. By bestie ordered tacos and loved those as well. 5 stars all the way for me. I discovered this spot after bowling one night. I drive past this intersection all the time hoping to see the truck out. I guess I need to figure out their truck schedule.
google avatar

Yelp
I'm super surprised by all the 5 star reviews... My family and I ordered a chicken burrito bowl, chicken quesadilla, and carne asada super fries. I can't comment on much of anything because the meat was so unbelievably salty. My dog's food probably tastes better. I was super disappointed because I wanted to like it so bad. Maybe I got a bad batch or something but... none of us finished our food. The guys working were super nice, though.

Yelp
I really, really like this truck. We stumbled upon it tonight. Venice Blvd. has a ton of taco trucks, but this is one I'll go back to. The variety was amazing..... mulitas, tortas, tripas, carnitas, etc. There are printed signs saying, "No Credit, don't ask" and a handwritten sign stating that they now accept credit. I was so confused. However, I forgot about the confusion when my order came..... an al pastor mulita and taco quesillo. The mulita was thick and stuffed with tons of Oaxacan string cheese, and the al pastor was just the way I like it.... so slightly crispy on the outside, but tender and juicy. The taco quesillo doesn't hold a candle to my favorite one at El Paladar Oaxaqueno, but was still good. They have little jugs for the salsas, avocado sauce, etc. The green salsa is pretty hot, so watch out. I'm not just saying that because I'm white. So happy I found this place!
google avatar

Yelp
Solid midnight snack. Easily my favorite tacos on the west side. Parking was easy. Fast turn around from ordering to eating. The fixings set up for eaters to garnish themselves. Salsa kept in squeeze bottles was easier to sauce. Tacos Del Valle could hang with all the trucks east of La Cienega & Vermont Blvds.
google avatar

Wendell C.

Yelp
Everything is good. You can't go wrong with this truck. Lengua tacos are my usual choice but I've tried many items.
google avatar

Cindy C.

Yelp
Ok looks like they're back! Found out that they're here everyday except Monday from 5pm to 2am. ****** Tacos de Valle, where art thou?? Went there today at 830 pm and alas they weren't there. Had to go to another taco truck that just isn't as awesome. :(

Yelp
Private event? Hire Gustavo! We had an event with about 100 guests and Gustavo showed up on time, arranged a special and easy menu and served all of our guests with a smile. His food is so delicious! Everyone left the party full and content. Best taco truck in LA. Period!

Yelp
Review is only for the carne asada tacos. I've been here twice now and both times I have gotten freshly cooked carne asada for my tacos. I walk up, I wait about 5 mins, listen to my meat being cooked while salivating at the prospects...then finally i get the call from senora and its lift off: three carne asada tacos COOKED FRESH TO ORDER. Ya, I said it...GRILLED RIGHT WHEN I ORDERED IT. They serve the tacos bare..just how I like it. Why?? Because I like to be able to put as much onions, cilantro and salsa as I see fit. Very important to me. They have an adequately stocked salsa bar with roja and verde, radishes, onions and cilantro, limes, and pickled carrots. They use proper tortillas, they soak up and keep heat properly. I'm not sure if they're homemade, I'd be surprised if they were, but they have said qualities..and that's what you want outta your tortillas. They even have a couple milk/soda crates in front for people to sit. I've had a lot of tacos here in the westside, from trucks to taquerias to full on restaurants, and this right here is the real deal. At $1.25 each!!! I highly suggest this place if you're in the area, perfect nightcap after those nasty nights at the bars in Venice. You know what I mean... A big 4.5 from this taco lover.
google avatar

Max W.

Yelp
Fantastic Mexican Food. Got the super burrito. It was massive, delicious, and only $8.50 if you paid with cash. Hard to find a place as reasonably priced and good as this in LA. Highly recommend.
google avatar

Sam W.

Yelp
The asada is approaching perfection, wrapped in a warm flour tortilla filled with cheese and deep passionate burrito love with a nice drizzle of their amazing avocado salsa. Made my maiden voyage last night and will be returning on the regular. Not super fast but perfection rarely is...
google avatar

John T.

Yelp
Alright must be the bests I've had so far in LA. Much better than Leo's. The Al Pastor and Cabeza were thick slices and so tender and juicy. I'm dead.
google avatar

Renee C.

Yelp
Best taco truck on Venice hands down! The green salsa is amazing. I highly recommend!
google avatar

Daniel S.

Yelp
3 and a half star review. I like this truck, but I don't love it. It's a spot that my friends and I like to go to when we're in the area and not in the mood to trek out to Eagle Rock or K-Town for our taco fix. At $1.25 or $1.50 a pop (depending on the type of meat you choose to fill your taco), even with the current state our economy is in, wouldn't drive you to the poor house. The tacos are a decent size (compared to a lot of taco trucks) served with meat (choices of Carne Asada, Carnitas, Chorizo, pollo, lengua, cabeza, suadero, and al pastor is what I remember) and sauce (Roja - red or verde - green). You have the option of dressing it with the condiments you prefer (onions, cilantro, lemons) which is located to the right side of the order window with their own small condiment bar. So, if you're ever in the Westside later in the evening, and you're craving tacos from a good 'ol greasy taco truck, stop here!
google avatar

Tim C.

Yelp
Do you know what Cecina and Saudero is? They still have your traditional al pastor, carne asada, pollo, lengua, etc. However, the last few times we've come here I've ordered 4 saudero tacos. Then you get to throw on your own salsa, onions, like it's a mini salsa bar. They have cemitas and quesadillas but I haven't gotten that far because saudero is really tasty. Great selection of drinks including the tall bottle of coke in the glass with the sticker on it. This is coke from South of the border. Is that the litre bottle? If you want to ask what is saudero, come here and try it first before you ask me. It's nothing weird like intestine or anything but it's really good. Then I'll tell you what it is. Their red salsa is really good. A little spicy but has a good roasted flavor. The green is good too and has a green tomato tangy hint in there but almost like a cool cucumber effect. Unless it's because I drown it with onions and radishes. Note: it's a truck so bring cash.
google avatar

M.C. L.

Yelp
Even if their chicken tacos didn't runneth over with tasty, greasy chicken, I'd still come here. Because their chicken tacos are just so tasty. But they don't skimp. Their chicken tacos runneth over with REALLY generous portions of tasty, greasy chicken. And, if you're with someone who is getting on your last nerve, you can pile on really generous heaps of tasty, freshly chopped onions on your tasty, greasy chicken tacos. You'll afford yourself quite a bit of personal space.
google avatar

Yelp
~Updated information for correct name and phone~ Craaaaving tacos on a raining night and we were just wrapping things up after having Killer Shrimp.....now for the carnivores that send the urge to eat meat take over..... Tacos? Oh where can we go?!!! Not all the way to LA!!!! Theres gotta be someplace close!!!! As we pulled into Mar Vista Bowl, Walter, Christina and the taco sniffing Wes located a taco truck right across the street!!!! Fresh corn tortillas (small size) 2x layer and fresh carne asada made this a delightful treat even in the rain!!!! KOlbe went nuts and she adores this place now so look for it across the street from the bowling alley.....(give or take a block since its street parking catering truck) Delicioso!!!!
google avatar

Amber B.

Yelp
You know you're a taco fiend when you talk about seeking out a taco truck before you've even finished paying your dinner bill. I was having a lovely and FILLING dinner at Versailles when somehow the discussion of going to the nearby taco truck came up. At first I stared incredulously at my dining partners...."are you serious?" I thought. I just stuffed myself silly and you want to go eat more?? Never one to turn down a new taco experience I, of course, went along with the plan. The location of this truck is pretty nice in that we were able to pull right up and find a parking spot directly behind the truck. Lots more empty street surrounded the truck for more people to park. Minus 1 star because they were out of pollo (and this wasn't even very late at night!) so I had to get 2 carne asada tacos instead. Minus 1 more star because the carne asada meat had some grisly and fatty bits that I had to spit out. Bleck. Great overall flavor though and the salsa was kickin'. Next time I think I'll be adventurous and try the suadero (rib meat) tacos.
google avatar

Yelp
Ever since moving to the west side my taco consumption has gone waaaaaaay down..I looked around Venice blvd to get my fix, but sadly, the restaurants did not satisfy my hunger. I knew I was hitting rock bottom when I crawled my way to taco bell to ease the pain with their beef (?) tacos. Never again! Thankfully I have Tacos del Valle to fuel my addiction! Their al pastor meat is, in my opinion, the best meat option. The carne asada is not all that great and I am a bit wary of eating carnitas from taco trucks...La estrella being the exception of course! Now I want to talk about one of the food options I normally would not see in other taco trucks- The tlayuda. Wether you are a family of six or two VERY drunk individuals, the tlayuda is an excellent choice when you are feeling particularly voracious. You can find all this and more on the corner of Inglewood and Venice close the the library from 6pm to 2am.
google avatar

Joy A.

Yelp
I don't know if it is because I was drunk (actually I did go when I was sobered up) but the tacos were sooooo gooood! ordered three tacos and a coconut water for $6. I got the asada and the al pastor, all flavorful and they were generous with the fillings!
google avatar

Geoff M.

Yelp
Great Asada burrito. Green salsa was sooo good. Guacamole was just okay but chips were also great. Service was nice. Overall win.

Frank A.

Yelp
YOU NEED TO UPDATE YOUR POSTMATES HOURS! I had placed an ordered and very excited to have your food. Until I got a call from my postmate that you guys where no longer at your location and had left. Very sad that I couldn't get a taco :(. Please don't let this happen again.

Peter B.

Yelp
Highly recommend Tacos Del Valle. I've ordered from here a couple times and the food was excellent. I've ordered the al pastor burrito (both times), veggie fries and chips & guac. The prices are very reasonable and you the portions are generous.
google avatar

Scott A.

Yelp
Got to try their food catered at a birthday party the other day and it was a good experience. Had 2 steak burritos and a steak quesadilla and really liked them. The guac, salsa and radishes were tasty too. Heard it's a night truck and if I'm around the area I'll try it again!
google avatar

Andrew K.

Yelp
one of the best tacos I've had on the west side, and their salsa are amazing. The super burrito is just okay. If you're feeling adventurous try the tlayuda. In the most non-racist kind of explanation/comparison, its like a mexican pizza...
google avatar

Jillian P.

Yelp
La comida esta muy bueno. Not awesome... Drunks with access to come and go from bar freely to attempt to let me know their hopes and dreams regarding our life together if I would be their girl, while awkwardly attempting to hug me. No, assistance from security to prevent this. The guys in the truck did not help - they were too busy knocking out some great tacos. Tacos, rice, beans, accouterments (two meals for me with this large amount of food) 6$. Awesomo.
google avatar

Alaine J.

Yelp
V. delicious and reasonably priced. The tacos are bare when you receive them - you'll find the fixins to the right of the order window. They've got pico de gallo, limes, red and green sauces and that radish and carrot medley. This is a grab and go type place, unless you don't mind eating standing up or roughing it on the sidewalk (I did this).
google avatar

April W.

Yelp
Love this truck! We have tried all the trucks on the block and frequently return to this one for their $6 al pastor quesadilla served with rice and beans...love the red salsa...its fresh and it's hot. We also love the green salsa, avocado salsa and freshly chopped white onions with cilantro. Bombdiggity
