The Best Restaurants in Montreal’s West Island | Eater Montreal

"The Mexican tunes spill out the door at this young Pierrefonds counter-serve spot — already a West Island favourite. Inside, orange and blue walls lined with gilded frames, a lively atmosphere, and excellent tacos and tortas await. Try their quesabirria, filled with slow-cooked beef and melted cheese and served alongside a flavour-rich consommé." - Erinn Blicher

The Best Tacos in Montreal | Eater Montreal

"Tacos Don Rigo opened in November 2020 with a no-fuss menu of burritos, quesadillas, tortas, and — what else —tacos. Try the birria or quesabirria tacos (the latter has melted cheese), and cherish the cup of warm, rich, red consomé (beef broth) that comes with it." - Eater Staff

We ordered a family meal for 5 people. The place has good vibes in general but I found it bit cluttered. Taste is good, chicken burrito was delicious.

The quesa birria tacos are possibly one of the top 5 best foods I’ve ever tasted. They’re so flavourful it’s actually unbelievable. The service for two orders of birria tacos was so fast, I was pleasantly surprised. The decor is also very nice. I was worried that one order of tacos would be too small for one person but after eating three tacos (1 order), I can say it’s more than enough. Overall I do think this place is worth the price.

We decided to visit Tacos Don Rigo after seeing a few positive reviews and being drawn in by the fun, vibrant exterior 🤩it definitely catches your eye. However, we were surprised to find that the service was more like a food court setup: you place your order and pay at the cashier, then go sit and wait for them to bring the food to your table while calling out your name. We ordered the carnitas quesadilla, birria tacos with cheese, and two margaritas. The total came to $76, which felt very overpriced😟especially for Mexican food. The margaritas tasted overly sweet and artificial, far from a proper margarita. On a positive note, the ambiance and décor are definitely unique and fun, and the food itself was tasty. But for that price point, it just didn’t feel worth it. Our meals came with chips on the side, and unfortunately, they tasted stale. Overall, while the place has a cool vibe and good food, the pricing and drink quality left us disappointed.

My boss suggested me to try to go eat at that place if I ever had the time few momths ago and I was in the area today with my husband (Sunday June 29 2025)! I must admit, this is the best taco place we've eaten!! This restaurant it's totally worth to travel for!! Too bad that they don't have it in Montreal, the ones in Montreal isn't comparable as theirs 🥲 We absolutely love the vibe, the food and the service ! Everything was fantastic, meal is not dry, tasted fresh, the pina colada strawberry slush was fantastic, the meats of our quesadillas & tacos was delicious and their guacamole was the BEST one I've eaten from all the restaurants I've been so far ! It was simply refreshing and mouthwatering 🤤 totally worth the price ❤️❤️❤️ We will come back again for sure with the family whenever we're craving for some authentic Mexican style restaurant 😋

Hands down the best taco place! And i don't even live around there. When I crave good tacos, i just make the drive to there and it's worth it! I love the atmosphere and the decor, it's authentic. I'm in love with their quesabirria! The staffs are so sweet and always smiling when you're coming in :) it's super welcoming!

Food was delicious 😋. Honestly one of the best spots to get tacos in the west island! Checkout our full review video at mtlfoodbros for what we got :) P.S make sure to get the spicy sauce 🔥

Google
Tacos are ok not the best but not bad either and they were well packed! But the 7.49 charge for beans and rice (+soft drink) was really not worth it the beans were really basic and the rice was bad (not cooked enough and not properly seasoned we both didn’t eat it) the pico de gallo rotation needs to be even smaller because the cup I got went bad. The horchata was HORRIBLE, clearly the powdered one and the strawberry flavor made it even worst.. it taste like medicine. That horrendous thing deserves -1/10😖😂 It’s a ok place if you’re in the area but I won’t drive 30min to get there

Google
Great taco spot. The tacos are thick!! So meaty and they have a sauce station so you can go hard. Take the onion habanero if you're looking for that spice. Authentic, felt like I was in Mexico somewhere, tasted like it too. So much flavor, so much meat, and at a great price. What more can you ask for?

Yelp
Trendy bistro that wont compromise on the taste of Mexico. Beautiful people and delicious food that will fill you up with ease alon reasonable prices to cater for everyone budget. The one thing I reckon that they need to improve is to have a teller for the first timer as they can really make you extend your lunch break and not in a good way. :)

Yelp
It's Taco Tuesday and we were very excited for the beautiful weather on cinqo de Mayo to get some tacos. For that we decided to go to @tacos_donrigo. Colourful and lively, beautifully decorated to the smallest detail; we really loved the ambiance and intoxicating smell as soon as we walked in. We got enough food to last us more than one meal (because when do we not?) and every bit of it was delicious but what really wowed us was the various exquisite sauces. We would drink that stuff straight. (kidding but... Only a little ). As we were eating @mtloroblanco, a mariachi band, showed up and made our experience that much more wonderful

Yelp
Wife and I came from California to visit my cousins in Montreal. I guess I can't go more than 4 days without eating tacos so they took us to who they say are the best tacos in Montreal. They weren't wrong. The food is great. I had the torta and my wife had the queso birria tacos. They were both amazing. We also ordered some quesadilla and Don Rigo was nice enough to give us one on the house. Amazing service. We spoke with Don Rigo afterwards to thank him and tell him the food was amazing.

Yelp
About as authentic as you can get in Montreal; you feel like your in a real little Mexican restaurant in the side streets of Mexico itself. Food is fresh and tasty; fast service; it has a nice little outside terrace. Good portions. Drinks are great; owner and servers are very nice. Prices are decent. Don't change a thing please! For someone who's been to Mexico a lot and loves the people and the food from there, this is a great alternative for à Montréalais.

Yelp
Loved the Tacos. Tacos Don Rigo will be a West Island Staple for years to come. The wait is worth it while they work out the kinks. I recommend the Barria tacos. I'm from California and lived in Texas. This place is authentic as they come

Yelp
Five stars for service, food and character. Awesome local gem! We had tacos - pulled pork and vegetarian . Both we fresh and had great flavor! I cant wait to come back to try other dishes on the menu. Cozy terrace and the interior worth a visit!

Yelp
The last 2 times I've gone to pick up we got home to find out we did not get chicken in our dinners but some crunchy over done meat. This time we had rice that was NOT cooked inside our meals!! Never again. This place has lost its touch

Yelp
As far as tacos north of the Mexican border , especially in Montreal, taco Don Rigo , for the first time in years, transported me back to the streets of Mexico. I am very impressed with the authenticity of their offering. I had the quesadilla birria and I loved it! They make them just like in Mexico. I am still full theee hours later.

Yelp
This place is AMAZING? I am a huge fan of Mexican food and this place has great food. I love the ambiance of the restaurant. It's a gem.

Yelp
Finally got to try out Tacos Don Rigo which opened just a few weeks ago. You get transported to Mexico as soon as you enter the restaurant. The decor brings a welcoming and fun vibe. We ordered (to go of course) the QUESA BIRRIA - slow cooked beef sandwiched in two tortillas with cheese and grilled to golden brown perfection; served with a flavorful broth. YUM! You can taste the pineapple in the meat inside the AL PASTOR burrito. I asked our server Jimena to put everything in the burrito - refried beans, rice, corn, onions, jalapeño, cactus salad/relish, guacamole, chopped tomatoes, cheese, lettuce and cream. DELICIOUS! The burrito was like the size of a small baby and I inhaled the whole thing! And here I thought I was only going to eat half of it! They also give you a complimentary side of tortilla chips. The hot sauce was not as spicy as I thought it would be but it packed a lot of flavor. After this very satisfying meal, I needed a shower and a nap. And I mean it in a good way. They seem to get sold out fast so I recommend ordering ahead. Support this new local business and at the same time, make your belly and taste buds happy! win-win!

Yelp
Place is is awesome. It's authentic Mexican, not crispy Old Paso. Been here a few times and had Taco Al Pastor, Taco Biriria & Taco Chorizo. All were great but the Chorizo and Birira were my favs. Even better was the Burrito Biriria. It was next level! Quality and fresh ingredients. When Covid is over, the deco will have a cool fun cantina vibe.

Yelp
Very fun hip place with an authentic menu. Everything we tried was great. The quesa birria are a must, but their other items are really just as tasty.

Yelp
The best tacos in town (it was a recommendation from my Mexican friend and he is right!); super funky decor on the inside too and a little terrace outside; they could be a little faster in service (in a July 2021), but to be fair, there is a "hiring!" sign outside. I've been twice and plan to go again. Enjoy the tacos; skip the quesadilla (too greasy).
