"Tacos El Chilango, a hidden gem on V Street NW that served a small menu with a traditional Mexican bent, announced on Facebook June 30 that it has permanently closed its standalone location after nine years of business." - Tierney Plumb

"Izakaya Seki next-door is a popular draw, but people shouldn’t walk past this V Street taqueria that serves some of the best soft tacos in the city. Go for carne asada, beef tongue, or a griddled cheese and avocado taco, all topped with generous heaps of fresh onion and cilantro." - Lisa Ruland

Authentic tacos quick service and delicious food! My favorite is the cheese and avocado veggie taco.Nice outdoor patio too! Love bringing friends here but sometimes it gets a little crowded at times! Everyone can’t get enough - love Tacos El Chilango

Tacos El Chilango is a small place for simple but tasty tacos. Beyond a range of four meat-based and four vegetarian options, the menu is spartan, including store-bought chips with homemade guacamole and two types of homemade salsa. The best taco on the menu is with chorizo, and the best vegetarian option is with avocado and cheese (mushroom and cheese a close second). All served in double-wrapper corn tortillas. Beer and margaritas are on the menu, too.

I wish I could give zero stars. I was really in the mood for tacos. What I got was ROTTEN meat delivered via Uber. It smelled like human feces. How did you let this out the door? I am furious and will be reporting this to the health department. This is a photo of the food where it belongs. In my trash can.

Tacos El Chilango has the makings of all my favorite taco places: unassuming, cheap, and simple. They don't try to do anything revolutionary, but they make a damn fine taco on the east coast and that is a hard thing to find.

So delicious and inexpensive! Also, really great service. Best tacos I've had on the East Coast.

Amazing tacos and salsa! Made me nostalgic for my hometown LA street tacos they were so good. Danny Trejo would eat these tacos any day! I had the Carne Asada and Chorizo, and am going back for lengua, and even to try some of the many vegetarian offerings. Taco champs of DC in my book.

While visiting DC this weekend, we decided to try this place, and it did not disappoint! We enjoyed it so much, we decided to get dinner from here again the VERY next night! The tacos were delicious, and on the second night, the owner gave us a complimentary guacamole, IT WAS SO GOOD! As a Mexican, I can confidently say that my food was quite AUTHENTIC, and my family and I will def come back when we're in town again!
