The Best Dishes Eater Editors Ate This Week: October 20 | Eater LA

"Just blocks from Petco Park and the convention center, this new Gaslamp outpost of the Tijuana taqueria turns out tacos, vampiros, mulitas, and quesadillas with meats like adobada, asada, cabeza, suadero, and tripa. My pick is the marinated pork adobada, a supple tortilla piled with heavily spiced, slightly crispy pork, a generous dollop of guacamole, and a squeeze of lime. With weekend hours until 2 a.m., it’s an ideal pre- or post-going-out bite — and a compelling newcomer alongside longtime standby Tacos El Gordo nearby." - Eater Staff

The food and atmosphere was great, they were so busy even on Tuesday night that the order took a while because they make 'em fresh. The two tacos were flavorful, no extra salsa needed unless you want to make them spicy. The size of each taco 🌮 is overflowing and abundant. Don't miss this place if you are in SD or passing through

Overall, a great experience. The adobada tacos were super tender and flavorful. The guacamole on top is also good but I would get it on the side next time. The staff is friendly and helpful and the food comes out pretty quick. The restaurant as a whole is very clean and there is plenty of seating. The sides are pretty limited and no salsa bar.

Favorite tacos in San Diego! Not only were the tacos amazing, Guillermo, the General Manager made it a point to greet every customer. Apparently they had just opened 3 days prior to us visiting and they are making sure the food and service are top tier. Also, pro tip: Order the Al Pastor with grilled pineapple on top! Al Pastor is my favorite and El Franc does not disappoint! 10/10 this will be our go to taco spot from now on. Thanks Guillermo and team for making it an unforgettable experience!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Tacos El Franc has officially brought Tijuana flavor to the Gaslamp! I tried the cabeza taco and frijoles con carne — both were amazing. The meat was tender and rich, the beans perfectly seasoned, and the salsas had that bold, authentic kick you expect from a true Baja taco spot. Service was fast, the space was clean, and you can tell they’re keeping the same quality that earned them Michelin recognition. So good to have this level of tacos right in downtown San Diego!

From the Netflix docuseries, Taco Chronicles, and Michelin Star fame at the original location, Tacos El Franc finally arrives in downtown San Diego and are you in for a treat! The location, perfect, right on Fifth Avenue in the heart of the Gaslamp. The staff, amazing, very friendly and have great recommendations. Everyone was very nice and thanked us for coming. It was like being at a friend or family members place. The food, oh the food! Loved loved loved the asada tacos, so classic and so perfect. We had three and devoured them! The brisket tacos was a nice twist. Tried the vegetarian taco for fun, honestly it was very good! The asada quesadilla blew me away! I didn’t think I would like it as much as I did. I can’t wait to go back and try everything! 100% make this your next stop. Easily the best tacos downtown!

I didn’t know what to order so I asked the Valeria at the counter to just give me a bunch of tasty food. Wow, she succeeded. My Lyft driver had told me these Tijuana tacos were the real deal and he was right. I loved every bit of it. The Lengua was my favorite. So tender.

Ok, some places DO actually live up to the hype. Really stoked to have this place in the neighborhood. I will admit I am usually a tacos el gordo regular but it is ALWAYS a pain to get food from there. The second I walked in the door at Franc they were super welcoming, helpful and smooth. Tacos were all excellent and adobada mulas were top notch. They converted me this is my new spot for tacos in gaslamp. See y’all again soon.

The tacos were pretty good, but ordering was a bit silly. I asked for no beans and no onions and he didn't understand the request (he was in training) but ultimately they still tasted good. The environment is nice, good amount of seating, and tacos are flavorful. Just under $5 a taco, take that how you will, but it's worth a visit if you aren't able to visit the Tijuana location. Plaza Bonita is sit down only from what I heard, and this one they asked "here or to go". Definitely worth a visit.
