Google
Great food at an affordable price. Melani did a great job taking our orders and getting our food to us fast. The trompo amazing.

Christopher

Google
Maybe not the most flavorful or intense tasting tacos. But the most authentic for damn sure. The taste is extremely light and addictive. The tacos don’t feel like they fatten you up. And yet the flavor is the best I’ve ever tasted in McKinney and practically north of Plano. Portions might be small but price is very cheap. 2.25 a taco is so good. Everywhere else is 3 dollars at least. Thank goodness it’s close to home 🙏🙏

This was my first time eating at this establishment. The food was okay. The tacos were miniature. Did I mention No Guacamole? Also, the prices on their menu board didn't line up with what I was charged. Two tacos and 1/2 of a Quesadilla $16,99 way too much for the lack of quantity I received.

Google
First of all I have to say that the place is clean. We decided to eat in, and they have wooden tables, I expected that they would be dirty or sticky, but that's not the case this place was spotless! I ordered Trompo, Lengua , and Barbacoa tacos, I also had a Lengua burrito. My wife had Lengua tacos, and a carnitas Torta. Everything was really really good, I just found my new taco place! The Trompo was very flavorful I just wish they you gave more meat in the tacos. The other tacos were also very good but I have to say the LENGUA is the star of the show ,it was very tender, rich with lots of beef flavor. We also decided to try a churros stuffed with caramel, it was a little different but churros are always good, throw in some caramel and it's a winner! The service is great, you order at the desk and they bring it out to your table. Note: they were constantly cleaning the place, and all the staff were wearing masks!

Google
Food is great, a bit pricey but they do have trampoline tacos wich are the only true way to have pastor Tacos.

Uhm Fyre

Google
Incredible tacos! One of the best salsa rojo I've had in a while and of course a solid salsa verde. Served with grilled and diced onions. A bit pricey at $3 per some of them (lengua is my soft spot.) But totally worth it. Trompo has great flavor as well and can't go wrong with their barbacoa. Corn tortillas hold very well and aren't flimsy. Horchata is just aguas frescas and I got too much ice is my only complaint. No worries though, I'll ask for no ice or grab a coke next time. I'll be back for sure. Also for the dude that said it was over $30 for 6 tacos and a drink is wrong. I got 6 tacos and a drink both visits, one was $26 the other time was only $22

Sa Chi

Google
So good! You have to try their trombo tacos with the sauces and a coke. Steak burrito is awesome too. Tried their caramel and vanilla churro for dessert. Pushed us over the top, but it was worth it.

Garrett Gonzalez

Google
Ordered a torta of Al Pastor and was told that was the better option of the meats. It didn’t have much flavor and very little meat. The service was really good and the place is beautiful just needs some work on the flavors.

Ector L.

Yelp
Holy shit. Why is this place so far from Frisco. Some of the best tacos I've had in a long time. Their salasitas were amazing. Spicy and flavorful.
google avatar

Julian C.

Yelp
Tacos are just nothing to write home about. The Al pastor looks so different from what I use to grow up on but the tacos are relatively small for the amount you pay. I did also get a barbacoa one and sadden it's not even real cheek meat just your Tex Mex chuck roast. The horachota was less than desired. Also charging to add pic lettuce and such is crazy. I would try something else unless you are just in a pinch and happen to break down in that area.
google avatar

Yelp
The food has done. Complete 180 and it's all for the worse it seems the portions of meat on the tacos are very small compared to years ago but the prices are u reasonable for what you get. The best disappointing thing was the barbacoa was poorly presented with inedible skin still attached and muscle and fat it's the worst barbacoa I've had but the churro was great with good flavor sadly I will not return to gordo

Yelp
Good experience! Food was great! Tacos and salsa are delicious & their stuffed churros are great too!

Kang Ah R.

Yelp
Best street tacos in all of DFW, hands down. Excellent service as well from the staff! Tacos are simple, amazing quality, and the sauces are fire. Orders come out hot and fast, just like a legit taco truck. Tripa tacos are crispy, and the other meats are not over done with seasoning. Just excellent! Restaurant is clean. This will be my go to taco place from now on!
google avatar

Yelp
If you are looking for authentic tacos. This is the place. The onions/cilantro, and caramelized onions were under the tacos. I got an assortment. The toppings really brought the flavors home. The sauces are good. Definitely simple and no bells and whistle's but worth trying. The churro was the star of the show. I got the caramel filled. They were soft and creamy on the inside and crispy and sweet with the dusted sugar and cinnamon on the outside. I will be back for these!

Yelp
Favorite taco place in McKinney. They have great flavor in their meat and Great tasting hot sauce
google avatar

Yelp
We were so ecstatic to find these tacos. Ee come from Cali, and good Mexican food is so hard to find in this neck of the woods. Truly a gem! Churros are fire too! We only come for tacos, but the other items look great too. I am a fan of tripas and lengua and they so not disappoint here! The place is clean and they have the funniest posters up. Give it a try! Truly, A Picky Mexican

Mad Matt B.

Yelp
The food was decent but the portions are incredibly small for the price point barely any meat on them no chips or salsa I spent 60+ dollars and am leaving hungry for a hole in the wall spot very disappointed
google avatar

Adam S.

Yelp
Best. Super simple, clean, tasty, and great customer service. Marinated pork is special and spicy special sauce is going to kill your tough gently and smoothly. Come and taste it.

Maria G.

Yelp
Great Mexican food, which is hard to find (because TexMex food) we love this place. We eat here at least once a month.

Bob R.

Yelp
For what they charge you'll be better making it yourself at home. The food is mediocre at best, hole in the wall restaurants normally surprise you. This place did the complete opposite. The portion you get is a joke. Go to a better taco spot. I doubt any of the 5-star reviewers actually eat at this establishment.

Luis R.

Yelp
Price for the amount of food was surprising. Too much for little size portion. Place was empty and I see why. Was in the area and was craving tacos so I figured I give it a try but won't be back! Will not recommend.
google avatar

Yelp
Always finding a new taco place, and yes the Tripa and Lengua is of great taste, tasty.

Steven P.

Yelp
My wife loves their churros and I simply love their food. You need to try it if you haven't
google avatar

Yelp
Mexico City style tacos in McKinney? Yes please. A good taco doesn't need much, just the right tortilla cilantro onion and the best part lengua. They offer pastor style, which is the cut the right way. Only thing they are missing is pineapple but I only come for the lengua. Not a lot of places offer it and when they do it's not good but I can say one of the top places in Dallas for an authentic tacos. If you say velvet taco type of tacos is more your style then this might not be for you. A hole in the wall that serves tacos at a decent price. Haven't tried all their items but I do enjoy their churros.
google avatar

Yelp
Great place for yummy tacos! This location was closed for a few months but recently reopened. This was my first time visiting and I will definitely be back. The customer service is the best I've received in a long time and the tacos were very tasty, the Jamaica water was delicious. Prices are great as well, only room for improvement would be filling the tacos up with a little more meat. Looking forward to my next visit.

Yelp
At first I thought this is was open by the same Tacos El Gordo in National City (South of San Diego). This is not just because of the name but also the picture of meat on the spitz. I found out it wasn't but I made the drive so I thought I'd try it. The Al Pastor with lime, onions and cilantro was capped with liberal amounts on green sauce. It was really good. It reminds me of Baja Mexico and Southern Californian Mexican. Horchata was good as well. I'll be back with the family and friends.
google avatar

Adrienne T.

Yelp
Very good street tacos. We tried the chicken, barbacoa and lingua. They come with chopped cilantro and onions and grilled onions. There are two sauces; a salsa verde. Creamy mild green sauce and a spicy red sauce. The service is fast and friendly and the place is super clean. Also had to try one of the Carmel stuffed churros. So good!! I will definitely be coming back.

Yelp
Yum! Its awesome to have an authentic Mexican food place in town. It is counter service and the employees are so friendly. I always ask an employee what their favorite is when I try a new place. She told me the trompo is what they are known for making. Trompo is pork that is marinated in a combination of dried chilies. Then it is slowly cooked with a flame on a vertical rotisserie called a trompo (spinning top), very similar to how shawarma is cooked. When ready, the meat is then thinly sliced off the spit with a large knife. It is served on tortillas, with finely chopped onions and cilantro. It was amazing. I also had chicken and barbacoa tacos. They were tender and flavorful. The red salsa was my favorite. It packed a lot of heat. I finished my meal with an amazing in house made churro.
google avatar

Jonathan T.

Yelp
Very good food at a good price! Is a quant little hole in the wall place to eat. If you like a quick bite of Mexican food at a good price this is the place for you.
google avatar

Yelp
IG: #koganei037 When I first read the name I thought they opened another location outside of California. Lo and behold it was not the same Tacos el Gordo from Chula Vista, San Diego, California. Kinda disappointed it wasn't the same. Also the Adobada meat here in Texas is called Trompo, because it looks like a trumpet..... sure it does.... Anyways the price for a taco is $1.50 which is pretty cheap when comparing to San Diego $2.50 but it doesn't come with a lot of meat compared to SD. Flavor wise the trompo is pretty good, just wish it was more than just two thin slices. The sauces are good. The Orange/Red is spicy, don't be a heavy pour lol. The green one is mild. Overall is an ok place, doesn't beat SD tacos.

Yelp
It's my first time trying this place since learning that trompo is another way to say pastor. I LOVE my pastor and since La Paloma closed I haven't had my pastor fix close to home. I'll start with the pros: Friendly staff Clean establishment Food was quick and tasty Now for the cons: I ordered 4 trompo tacos and was disappointed by the portions. I'd rather pay a bit more to get a heartier taco. The serving tray was simply too small and the tacos came piled on top of each other. Not a fan of that Lastly the flavor was just lacking. The pastor i love is juicy, flavorful and a bit greasy. These tacos lacked flavor, and for someone who doesn't use the sauces, simlly fell short. I'll be back to try the burritos. Maybe in combination with everything else the blandness of the trompo will be more balanced.
google avatar

Yelp
Dont go. I went to buy 2 tortas and a soda. Got charged $32.86. I never got a receipt. Their menu shows tortas for $10? I got a trompo torta and it was honestly awful. I posted this exact experience on their social media and they immediately deleted the post and blocked me. Instead of making it right. Clearly they don't care
google avatar

Tara K.

Yelp
Tacos El Gordo is "pretty good." Their filled churros are tasty and a neat experience if you've never had a cream or caramel filling before. I ordered the taco salad and was slightly disappointed. For $7, I was expecting a decent sized bowl, but the one I got could fit in the palm of my hand. I'm not sure if it's because it was their last taco bowl of the day or what, but I was bummed that $7 later, I was still starving. My husband ordered a couple tacos and swears they're the best he's ever had. I get it's a matter of preference. Overall, their quality is great, but they fall short in their portions.
google avatar

Michelle N.

Yelp
This place is such a nice hole in the wall for authentic Mexican tacos. 10/10 AND they had churros and horchata!
google avatar

Carb M.

Yelp
I don't know how to put this nicely. I wouldn't feed the tacos they gave me to my dog. Their version of Trompo tacos is more like Chinese barbecue pork thinly shaved off the spit. In this case, the meat was refrigerated for God knows how many days then reheated on the flat top with about a gallon of canola oil. Not to mention the slices of meat are sad. The chicken... well if I can't trust your other food, chicken is the thing that's will bring you to your knees, so I just passed. I would not recommend this place. I'm sorry I've been to so many places now in Texas that say they're authentic Mexican food and they're not even in the ballpark. Probably because they know Texans don't know true Mexican food. I would gladly eat at Taco Bell over this any day of the week.

Yelp
Oh my LORD, these are the best trompo tacos on the planet! Super friendly staff, clean restaurant, and tacos had more than plenty meat! This is now my favorite place in McKinney, hands down!
google avatar

Dolly K.

Yelp
Very clean and small with lots of booths. We were greeted as soon as we entered, and service is very fast. The tacos are made with mini corn tortillas, and not much meat. I ordered two Carnitas tacos, I found them to be tasteless, even with grilled onions. The rice and beans were just ok, not the best in McKinney and overpriced. They have a lot of meat choices, maybe I did not choose well.
google avatar

Melissa C.

Yelp
We just found this place randomly but it was clean, the staff was friendly. We got a churro and it was really good. We also ordered chicken & barbacoa tacos with rice and beans. The tacos themselves were good but the beans were a little salty. Overall it was a good experience, nothing that put it over the top and made then special. But nothing bad to say either.
google avatar

Mark F.

Yelp
Just moved out from Los Angeles and I have been craving hole in the wall tacos. The "good stuff," and let me tell you, I found it. Best Al Pastor tacos I've had so far. The carmelized onions they give you with the tacos are awesome and everyone knows that the salsa is what binds these taco places together. Had a half Pastor/ half Carne Asada burrito and damn was I happy. The beans are good and just overall, it's my new taco spot in the Allen area. Inexpensive, good and authentic taco place. I recommend it.
google avatar

Walter P.

Yelp
Best tacos for trompo in Mckinney hands down. You can't go wrong with the tacos de trompo. They also have other selections as well with the trompo meat and for those who don't like trompo that's okay because they have burgers and other selections great family owned restaurant.
google avatar

Nellie G.

Yelp
If you're looking for fresh authenticity in a very friendly and clean setting this is the place! Best tacos I've had in the area! the Tacos are so tasty and they are not stingy with the meat. The trompo tacos are the best! I definitely recommend to anyone looking for delicious tacos. The Green Salsa is amazing!
google avatar

Kayl W.

Yelp
This place is NOT closed as reported above. Stopped in today for a post workout taco ayyyyy Really Really good and the tacos came out fast.
google avatar

Larissa M.

Yelp
1.50 for tiny street tacos, meat is tasty, but bigger portions are easier to find nearby. Tortillas aren't anything to write home about. Trompo, barbacoa and lengua were all solid, chorizo was okay. Horchata was good, not too sweet. Orange sauce is spicy! CASH ONLY
google avatar

Pamela C.

Yelp
How does this place have less than 40 reviews?! It's a hidden gem. If you love tacos, come and get yourself a trompo. I personally judge every tack joint by their lengua and Tacos El Gordo's are five star.
google avatar

Yelp
First timer today (2/25/23) and wow, I'm impressed. Wife loved the torta and my daughter and I enjoyed the street tacos! definitely going again!

Yelp
So my picky 5 year old allowed me to try this new place out. It's behind the Waffle House adjacent to the Asian buffet place on White and the 75-service road in Mckinney. The menu is extremely simple. For this trip we stuck with the tacos. The "Trompo" tacos (a Monterey, MX term) aka Pastor Tacos if you frequent El DF (Mexico City) were good. I ordered mine 'doraditos' meaning a little more cooked/crispy than simply shaved off like gyro meat if you've ever been in the Middle East. I would have liked a bit more in quantity but for $1.50, I won't complain, they were good. The garnish came on the side with onions, cilantro and lime wedges (2). The lengua tacos were well cooked and seasoned. I added salt for my tastes. The carnitas tacos were moist and not greasy. The only two salsas I was given were the red (really spicy) and the "avocado/green salsa" that had less of a kick than the red salsa. I would have liked a mild roasted tomatillo green salsa with my lengua tacos, but the salsa was their. I had a bite of all tacos without garnish and salsa for a taste comparison then fully dressed with garnish and salsas. All The meats were seasoned. All tacos are double yellow corn tortilla that were good tasting. My son 5 year old had 5 (double tortilla) of the Fajita and he devoured them all so he licked it. It's cash only, for now but the plCe was really busy. Sign says occupancy 47 and I easily counted 25 folks having a Taco feast at all the tables. Price is good and the flavor is their as well. It's also much closer than our go-to Taco shop on 380 & 5. I will be going back again and hope that as business picks up the menu could include traditional choices as well. (flautas, bean/rice combo plates etc)

Nakya C.

Yelp
The only reason i gave it a 1 star was bc i couldn't give it a 0. These tacos were not good at all. The corn tortillas were so soft because they didn't cook them correctly or at all. The Churros we're DISGUSTING, they were over cooked, not enough filling l, and smelt like fish. Customer service was fire tho :)

Yelp
My family ate here last night based on the high good reviews and we left totally disappointed. First of all it stunk like a port-o-potty when you walk in, like disgusting, that alone almost made us leave but we had hungry kids so we stayed. We ordered a burrito, 5 tacos, a quesadilla, and a churro. It was $30. Not terribly expensive but I think over priced. The people at the counter were nice and attentive so no complaints there. The food was terrible. The taco and burrito meat was dry and hard like it's been sitting for DAYS my husband will eat anything, literally and he couldn't finish his food even after lathering the tacos in sauce. I went up to get something to put on it hopefully to mask the taste and they don't even have guacamole! Like what Mexican food restaurant doesn't have guacamole?! They only had sliced avocado....um ok...the only thing that was remotely good was the churro. I was so scared for food poisoning.

Yelp
Great location in McKinney TX. Needed a good place with tacos de Trompo aka tacos al pastor. Clean and great service. This is an only cash establishment. Also, the only have bottled water and bottled drinks. Horchata and Jamaica water are also available. No fountain soft drink machine. Tacos are great. Barbacoa and Al Pastor were my favorites. They are open from 11:00 am till 10:00 pm. Great little spot for Mexican tacos.
google avatar

Matthew C.

Yelp
Dang good tacos. They don't skimp on the fillings. The sauces are flavorful. You can go as spicy as you like. Want to come back and try the trompo. Was not in the mood for it when I was in there. Went for my standard fair to get a better feel for the comparison. They were very good, and can hold their own with other establishments.
google avatar

Tan N.

Yelp
A real authentic taco joint serving up the best street tacos around. Tried every taco they offered but the true standout is the trompo. Sliced right off from the rotation grill, reminds me of the same cooking method for gyros. Tortilla is spot on. They offer two homemade sauces. Green, which is the "mild" version with a definite kick of heat and red, which is the . My 14 yr old girl likes that one! Not me, I'm the green one. Tacos come with cilantro, raw onions and grilled onions on the side. Super great value. Good amount of meat per taco. And for the fifth star, excellent customer service in a clean environment. Well done, Tacos El Gordon. Well done.
google avatar

Sara S.

Yelp
tacos are ok. horchata is good. staff is attentive. churros are awesome. the only thing inwould change is the tv station. annoying univision soaps don't go well with my food.
google avatar

Blanca A.

Yelp
We walked in and were greeted with big smiles at the counter. We ordered our food and the ladies were very friendly. Got fajita tacos for the kids and they were yummy. I got tacos de trompo, chorizo and fajita. Chorizo wasn't super greasy, I feel like they drained all the grease out which is nice but would've liked it to be chunkier, this is a personal preference. Trompo tacos were the best, pretty yummy, as well as the salsa, it was spicy but not crazy spicy. The onions and cilantro are served on the side, as well as grilled onions, you need to add lemon and salt and the grilled onions are amazing. Jamaica water was really yummy, plenty of sugar, not too sweet. We will come back, especially because if the friendly staff.

Yelp
Well I had high hopes. I am a self proclaimed Mexican food connoisseur. I have eaten many a taco. I am from Cali and taquerias, taco trucks are plentiful. I was looking for just a basic good taco (what some call a street taco). Great meat, onions, cilantro, and the sauce has to be proper. This place got good reviews and I hadn't had good Mexican food since i got here. It actually had the sane name from one of my favorite spots bs k home so I decided to give it a go. This fell way short for me. Just not what I am used to. I tried carne asada, chicken, pastor (trompo) and carnitas in hopes they one would fit the bill. Nope. The trompo aka pastor especially was nothing like Cali. The meat overall was not seasoned well. Some may like the onions and cilantro on the side but it becomes like a build a taco kit. The sauce was meh. I will say the price wasn't bad and the quantity of meat was decent. The search for good tacos continues...
google avatar

Brant S.

Yelp
Wow. Tacos El Gordo is going to make me Gordo. Try the crazy red Trombo. It's pork and delicious. I also tried the lengua, barbacoa and fajita de res. Everyone is a homerun. Tasty red sauce but beware the heat. The green sauce is maybe the best green sauce ever made. Give this place a shot.

Yelp
Awesome hole-in-the-wall for authentic street tacos. When prompted for crispy on my tripas, I said heck yeah! The customer service was warm and very friendly, and the tacos were superb. This is the place for trompo, tripas, and lengua when you're in the McKinney area...and oh yeah, their barbacoa is pretty good too. If I didn't live so far away, I'd be a regular.
