This taqueria is local, and it's very close to my job. To somebody, nobody really speaks English. I can tell that the people are very nice, but it's hard to communicate what you're trying to accomplish during your order. The food is good, however I feel like it's a little pricey. I wish they had more of a meal instead of a la carte. The atmosphere is pretty good. The restaurant is clean but sometimes when people talk loud it echoes and could be very loud. The TVs are way too loud and off sink. It's almost like urine echoes from one side room to the other. That could be annoying while you're eating your food. Besides that great food clean place as long as you understand the above.

The quesabirria taco is my favorite, it has complex flavors, almost like the meat was pulled from an Indian beef curry, but not spicy, and served in a crispy corn taco with cheese. This taco is all about the contrast in textures and flavors, soft beef and crispy taco — I like it best in the evenings when the meat has had a chance to rest in its broth. This is the single item that keeps me coming back here, everything else is pretty average IMO

A chill hangout for delicious, budget-friendly Mexican eats. I stopped by on a Friday evening — it wasn’t packed, but there was a good buzz in the air. We went for the Super Burrito and Meaty Fries — both were absolutely loaded and seriously delicious. For just $15 each, it’s a total steal! If you’re craving tasty, affordable Mexican food near downtown Redwood City, this is the spot!

Google
The flavors and quality here still make this my favorite spot in Redwood City for burritos. I love their pastor and the depth of flavor it has. Their tortillas are fresh and excellent too. I'm confused why salsa isn't included in the take out bags, and I'm never asked if I want any, so maybe I'm expected to ask. I also wish they included chips or had an option to purchase them.

This place restored my husband's and my faith in Mexican food. We come from Singapore with pretty dismal choices for decent Mexican food so I tried this with no expectations. However, I was really, truly blown away by not just the size but the astounding quality of my order! The wet burrito was SUPER loaded with ingredients and the green salsa hit the spot as the burrito skin soaked up its goodness. The chimichanga was the real winner here as I was truly surprised by how BIG it was! The sour cream complemented the salsa very well. There were huge chunks of cheese nicely folded into the flour base and the only gripe I had was that it was too sinfully calorific as it was huge and fried. It was very oily and I was already plenty full from eating the filling only. We could not finish our meals at all and I think one main + one side would be just nice for a couple to share. It has been 3 weeks since we ate here and my husband is still wistfully reminiscing the awesome Mexican food we got. Pity that the branches are only around the bay area and nowhere else in US.

Very chill place to be after sports! Good food, ordered the wet burrito and it was yummy!

Google
The best tacos de tripa you'll find in town. Place is really clean. They also have a new outdoor sitting area that is petfecy for hot days. Service was okay. Dude that helped made the error of red salsa in my tacos so they had to redo them, overall not too bad.

Google
Food is great from El Grullense and with so many nearby locations, I will try to patron another. They missed an item for an order and had to come back to let them know and remake while I waited further for my food. It was disappointing not having my food fresh and a soggy, so please be aware.

Yelp
Tacos. 65% onions and cilantro / 35% meat. Raise the price to $3.0 on your tacos. Meat quality is good enough people will come back. Don't rip people off. Other than that the meat is really good. Still 200% better than the on in Palo Alto. The one in Palo Alto gives the brand a terrible name. Close them Mama. Your daughter in law screwing up your brand.

Yelp
I must preface I don't really like tacos but my spouse does so I go get tacos with him sometimes. I usually get the super taco since I think one is enough but you could probably eat two if you have a healthy appetite. I like the pastor pork meat. It's flavorful and juicy. The toppings that come with it are fine too - the sour cream, guacamole, etc. They have free water at the front. There is plenty of parking here so it's usually not an issue. Worst case I guess you can park on the street, or in the library nearby.

Yelp
Stopped in for a late lunch on this rainy afternoon. I was famished! I ordered five carne asade tacos with salsa verde. These tacos are super tiny but packed with flavor. It was my first meal of the day, so I was hoping for something filling. I think six would have done the job, honestly. I'm telling you, these bad boys are tiny, so order accordingly! Topped with cilantro and onions, resting nicely on a miniature flour tortilla. I also ordered a tres leches cake which was a bit on the dry end, unfortunately. I still devoured it though because the tacos weren't as filling as I anticipated. I will definitely return to try a papa loco- a loaded baked potato with your choice of meat. I'm a sucker for potatoes!

Yelp
Excellent taco stand! Lots of outdoor and indoor seating and parking too. I got the lengua, asada, pastor, and cabeza. Each taco was $2.75 but lengua was $3.75. Everything was really solid and well priced! My favorite was the lengua for sure. Super tender and flavorful. They didn't skimp on the pickled carrots. They ask whether you want mild or spicy tacos and I got mild with the spicy salsa on the side, which was perfect. Food came out quickly!
google avatar

Yelp
The best tacos in the area. Service is fast on weekdays but weekends it's always super busy.

Johnny L.

Yelp
This place was perfect for our dinner after a long day and really satisfied my taco craving. I got 4 regular tacos (pastor, asada, pollo asado, and chorizo) initially, but ordered 2 more pastor tacos since I enjoyed them so much. I appreciated the pickled carrots as well. There was plenty of seating inside and outside, and water inside if you need it.

Yelp
No complaints with this location of the El Grullense chain. It's reliable, relatively cheaper than the sit down Mexican restaurants in downtown Redwood City, and you get what you pay for. I usually get a chimichanga with carne asada and a large horchata, and it's a good amount of food for ~$21. Staff work fast and will hand you whatever you need to go. Parking lot is spacious, and there are some outdoor stools if you want to take the time to sit down. This place checks the box when you need that quick fix.

Yelp
This is a very nice Mexican restaurant. The staff is friendly, the food is well prepared and tasty, and everything is very clean. You order at the counter and either take your food to go or dine indoors or out. We had a breakfast burrito with bacon (you have several meat choices), a carne asada taco, and chicken enchilada. They are open 7-days-a-week where many small restaurants are not. A great place to enjoy a meal.

Yelp
Nada amable . Si pudiera poner 0 estrellas lo aria

Yelp
One of my favorite El Grullense locations. The food is always flavorful and really good. Service is always great. Ordered 6 asada tacos, Asada super burrito, Asada meaty fries & churro Everything was great except the tacos and burrito was a bit spicy even after I requested it to be mild sauce.

Yelp
I had never tried any El Grullense locations but my friend had and said it was good. We came for Friday night dinner since other places were busy and this wasn't. I read that this location was better than the one on El Camino. Meaty fries (4/5): This is french fries with jack cheese, choice of meat, onions, cilantro, salsa, and sour cream. I chose asada for my meat. It was good. Can't really go wrong with loaded fries. The meat was a little too salty but not that bad. The portion was good! It lasted two meals for me. There is plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. They have their own parking lot as well. You order at the window and they'll call your number out for pick up. I would probably come back again if I want quick Mexican food.

Yelp
Overly sweet agua frescas were just the beginning of a bad experience here. We ordered sides of rice, that were really dry and crunchy. We had crappy service. It was over priced. After putting in our order We sat outside and waited for our food. 15-20 min pass and nothing we walk inside and our food is sitting there. No one told us anything ! People were reaching over our food to get our orders. When my brother complained to them about this, they then told us we're not allowed to complain. ? Never again will I waste my time or money here. Also not sure why all 4 of us got sick after. My nephew threw up and my we ending up with stomach pains. Save your money and go to another El Grullense location

Yelp
I spent a week in the southeast visiting family and due to various weather and other delays my return flight home was late by a couple hours. Needless to say I was starving and missing Mexican food A LOT. BF picked me up from SFO and I whisked me away to get something immediately. It was really late and I was so happy that Tacos El Grullense was open so I could get my sopes fix. The tasty al pastor hit the spot and sitting at the little outside window/bar on a Saturday night while folks were still rolling up to order was the perfect "Welcome Home" vibe I needed.

Yelp
We came here on a Friday late afternoon. Not bad for burritos. You order outside and seat yourself after. We got the lengua regular burrito. It was ok. The meat could be more tender though.

Yelp
We got nacho fries with al pastor, an asada taco, and a sope asada. Everything was pretty good, but the issue with a lot of Mexican places in Nor-Cal is that the meat is usually overcooked. The fries were nice and crispy--unlike many other Mexican places where they tend to be soggy. The al pastor had great flavor with a good fat-to-meat ratio, but, again, it was a bit overcooked. The price was very affordable at $14.75, and the portion size was great. Overall, I'd rate it 8.5/10. The asada taco had great flavor as well, but, once again, the meat was overcooked. I don't remember the exact price, but I believe it was around $2. 7/10 The sope had good flavor and was a decent size, but it felt a bit overpriced. 7/10 The service was okay, and the ambiance isn't anything special--it's essentially a hole-in-the-wall type of place. All in all, I'd say this is probably one of the best Mexican places in the Bay Area, and I would highly recommend it. That said, it still doesn't compare to any Mexican spots in San Diego. Just keep in mind that if you're getting Mexican food in Nor-Cal, the meat will likely be overcooked.

Yelp
My partner and I are vegetarian and they don't ever follow our requests. I like the regular but without meat and with guac, they made us pay extra and this burrito doesn't even have guac! My partner also requested they don't pre melt the cheese and it's melted. This keeps happening over and over again. If you guys want any extra like salsas they are stingy and make you pay extra for everything. Not coming back
google avatar

Yelp
Came on a friday night and it wasn't super packed :) food came out quickly. place is clean and has many places to sit. You can pick inside or outside! My tostada was soooo good! The Al pastor was the best! such a great drive up spot to grab some Mexican food in Redwood City. Highly recommend if you're craving affordable and tasty food

Yelp
I've been coming to this taco and burrito joint ever since a friend first introduced me to them years ago, and when I'm in the RWC area and craving Mexican food, this place really hits the spot. They have both indoor and outdoor seating as well as a small parking lot for customers. You order up at the stall, wait for your number to be called in the same area, then take your food to the dining tables. I especially enjoy their lengua tacos - the texture is perfect - and their Agua Frescas, which are great for especially hot days. I've also had their burritos and chips and guacamole before and they're both tasty too. Good place to catch a bite!

Yelp
10/10 service and 10/10 food!! Definitely recommend if you're in the area. I also got the carne asada super burrito and it was delicious. Don't forget the agua de Jamaica on the side.
google avatar

Yelp
The Carne Asada Fries are the best around! Quick service, food comes out the kitchen fast! Restaurant is always clean! Exactly what you need, nothing fancy, really good food! I definitely recommend! I will definitely come back!!
google avatar

Mango M.

Yelp
Their portions of the dishes are relatively large. Their fresh fruit drinks are really great and a must order! Parking space is a bit limited and may have to park on the street
google avatar

Liz N.

Yelp
Most horrible carne asada burrito ! I don't know why I keep trying here especially compared to my home town San Diego. why they stuff burritos w: rice and beans and think it's authentic boggles me...also no guacamole salsa chips? I'll just have to pass give up on Mexican food here
google avatar

Huey N.

Yelp
Their meats are really flavorful. I had a crispy taco with cabeza. Cabeza can often be bland (their appeal is the texture) but this one was super well seasoned. I ordered some tripas tacos which were street sized. Tripas were crispy and also had good flavor. Overall, I really enjoyed these tacos; they are in the upper tier of my list. My one critique is their hot salsa. It masked the flavor as if I was dousing food in hot sauce. I didn't much much of the extra I asked for. This is a great spot. I would definitely recommend if you are in the RWC area.
google avatar

Reena L.

Yelp
Excellent food as always. Great quality for the price. Almost as good as the ones I eat in Mexico. Definitely miss living in Redwood City. Check them out for some good food.

Yelp
There are ~9 Tacos El Grullense locations in redwood city but this location on Middlefield Road is my favorite. This taquería has been serving flavorful mexican food for decades, and always has people enjoying food inside no matter what time i visit. this place has great hours from 8am -11pm so if youre looking for a late night taco i would recommend this place! The tacos here are so good and for a great price, the carne asada, al pastor, and cabeza. Each one is packed with juicy, well-seasoned meat, topped with fresh onions and cilantro, and served with lime on the side. They have a couple different salsa options that add a serious kick that ties everything together. If you like super spicy they also have a red chili oil. If you're extra hungry, the super burritos are a great pick. They're huge, stuffed with your choice of meat, rice, beans, etc. And for breakfast lovers, the breakfast burritos are available all day and hit the spot every time. They recently started serving birria tacos and they might be my new favorite item here. The restaurant is casual, with both indoor and outdoor seating. The outside patio area has nice string lights that make the ambiance very nice to eat outside! Its clean and welcoming, and the staff keeps things moving even when it gets busy. You can order both inside the restaurant at the register or from the window on the outside of the restaurant, they will call your number when your order is ready. There is parking outside the restaurant, it can fill up when its crowded but there is plenty of street parking around. Around this area is downtown redwood city with other restaurants, activities, desserts places and even the library nearby. Overall, Tacos El Grullense is a reliable go-to for authentic Mexican food in Redwood City.

Yelp
Amazing Tacos, will definitely be coming back. You have the option to order outside in the front or inside as well. There was quite a bit of tables and outside seating as well to the left when you first come in. The service was good and they were also fast which was a plus! Will be back forsure
google avatar

Jianne D.

Yelp
By far the best street tacos in the Bay Area! The carne asada blends perfectly with the onions and cilantro! The lime adds a zesty flavor and tenderizes the meat! Reasonably priced and the perfect take out order! The service is quick, but they sometimes miss DoorDash orders so you may have to wait a bit. The ambiance is casual and loud especially being right on El Camino Real!

Eli K.

Yelp
Good tacos and burritos , I try torta and that is good too. Fast cooking , Other location good too.
google avatar

Gauri V.

Yelp
I simply adore this place. Three Al pastor tacos with extra onions and chips and salsa, please. Food, service is excellent. Order at the window or go inside and have a sit. I salivate just thinking about it!
google avatar

Yelp
I like the walk way of ordering! We are visiting from Colorado and love Mexican food!! This really hit the spot. I had the asada street tacos with green salsa 2thumbs up! My husband had a bean and cheese with el pastor added!! Would definitely recommend!!
google avatar

Sandee L.

Yelp
When I'm stoked to eat the other half of my burrito for lunch the next day, I know this joint is a winner! Because of a mixup (errrrr, someone who shall remain nameless not listening to me), we went to all four El Grullense locations in RWC before hitting up the one my friends like best. I ordered for five at the walk up counter and we got our food pretty fast and it was all correct. My carne asada super burrito was huge, packed full of flavor and with the right ratios of everything. Delish! I love how you can order your enchiladas a la carte too. Just a fyi, they are on the smaller side because they use the corn tortillas.

CHERRY C.

Yelp
Been coming here for the last 15 years and I still think their tacos are the best in the bay at a great value. My go to are the lengua, tripas and Al pastor. Love the updated decor and friendly staff!
google avatar

Avivi W.

Yelp
The tacos here were so so delicious- with the crispy tortilla and the super flavored meats! The torta was also very good and a great portion for the price! The service was wonderful, we came here pretty late right before closing, and they still waited for us to take our order, the food came out very fast! The environment is very cute, love the outdoor bar area that they open till 11PM! Will definitely come back here again!

Yelp
Good quality meat, well flavored and great mild and hot salsa. Best street tacos I have had in the Bay Area.

Cathy S.

Yelp
Best tacos & tostadas on the Peninsula. La Tapitia was my goto since living in SSF, 65 years. then I moved to Burlingame, and San Mateo -between those two places I couldn't find a decent Mexican restaurant. 30+ years I loved SSF loved La Pearla until they changed hands and it's no longer my fav. I did find on 24th on Mission St. SF. the best tacos and Tacos El Grullense #1 runs equally good. Price is fair & just, and they do not skimp. Love this place! I wish they had Chile Relleno's .
google avatar

Jerica H.

Yelp
Ordered delivery because I was craving flautas. The presentation in the Togo boxes was nice but they were a little smaller than I expected, but they were delicious either way! I also ordered a tripas taco that was very tasty! And saw bunuelos on the menu and had to try since I normally just have my grandmas. These were crispy and delicious, definitely worth it!

Yelp
Was here yesterday for a quick lunch. There's construction going on near the area, but they have a pretty decent parking space in front of the store. There are lots of seats both indoors and outdoor. It's an open space and the television only shows hispanic channels. It's not the newest restaurant but it's alright. Decent amount of selection of hispanic food. I was a little worried when I realized the reviews on food were very poor. But I had already ordered. Thankfully, it wasn't really as bad as they reviewed. I got their new item quesabirria, a meat bowl, and plantanita (plantains). Quesabiria would be 8/10. Really great meat and it wasn't too spicy at all. (I'm not a big fan of spicy food) The wrap was good, just a little oily. They give a hefty amount of the meat, so I liked that. Meat Bowl Salad 7/10. It's pretty stuffed and we had carnitas as the meat selection but the presentation was bad. The sauce was coming out on the sides and some parts of the bowl were a little soggy already. Plantains 9/10. Really good plantains! Served hot and not too sweet and not bland. Service time was pretty fast. But the servers and cashier lady was probably in a bad mood that day. They aren't too warm and welcoming.

Yelp
Food: Meat Basket is loaded. Shredded chicken, refried beans, no onion cilantro or salsa. The "guacamole sauce" has a kick to it. Shell is super crunchy and tastes very homemade. $13.50 eat in price Veggie Super burrito is dank. Filled with more than just rice and beans! Black beans, corn, bell peppers, zucchini, rice, cheese. Best veggie burrito, and massive. $11.99 taco was meaty and good. Street taco. $2.75 Vibe: Eat in or take out. Takeout window is outside, eat in counter is inside where you order and they call your number. Inside has a fan but no AC. Outside has seating but in the sun it gets hot and noisy from the cars. Our favorite Gruellense - great portions, good flavor, kind service. Parking is free

Peter K.

Yelp
Great place to eat and talk with friends. Thank you Roberto and all you beautiful people who had the courage to make new friends. Love, P.K.
google avatar

Yelp
Super good tacos! I ordered steak tacos didn't take long and was very good! I like the outside seating as well. This will be my go to taco spot!

Andres Z.

Yelp
I was pretty disappointed when I got there about at 11pm and they told me they were closed already even though it's advertised that it closes at 12am

Yelp
Always bomb. Not super "gourmet" or extra special. Just straight up good tacos. Since they made me write more, I'm gonna take off one star. The burritos are not the most amazing..... they're ok. And I wish they had tostadas ceviche. But I go here for the tacos and they are damned good lol.
google avatar

Jaelynn R.

Yelp
I've ate here once before maybe two months ago got asada fries had really bad food poisoning. I thought it probably was like my stomach just bugging. But again I got a super burrito with asada and I got food poisoning AGAIN! what.... I've eaten at so many Mexican restaurants/ food trucks whatever and at this specific location I've only gotten food poisoning ..never again am I coming here something is clearly not being kept in a clean environment prob the asada... so gross! And trust me it wasn't any other food I ate I literally was starving myself alll day and that burrito was the only thing I ate....
google avatar

Connie N.

Yelp
The food was hella good! We got the California burrito, which is huge and wasn't disappointed with how packed the burrito was. The meaty fries were pretty fire also, it wasn't too salty. There weren't many people around the evening time so the service was pretty quick. Also like how you're able to order and sit inside, and also order outside to-go. Makes it convenient to order food. It feels like a spot you would go to late at night after seeing a movie or after the club lol. Would definitely come back.

Yelp
it is amazing i love it but it is s little expensive it is really good but just too expensive still love it though

Yelp
Perfect with what I wanted, big normal menu with everything. Decent price too, to go or eat inside

Mis I.

Yelp
One of my favorite taco places, decent price and they have good customer service. Only took away one star because sometimes the order isn't consistent , Although it's still good. It would be better if my order came out the same regardless of who's cooking.
