Been coming here Since they opened. But they downgraded their taco size, they are competing with Macdonald i think. Always has been one of the top spots to go for tacos and saturdays for the birria. I moved out of state and came back to this place since it was where I used buy when ever i wanted tacos but seriously... the tacos are literaly a one bite and its gone.... way too small.

Food is delicious, I bought sopes de pollo and they were amazing. I also tried their lengua it was just right. They also have a drive thru!!!

The food is to DIE FOR. The tacos are so tasty with the salsa. The salsa gives some spice. You have to have every topping on it. Tastes like heaven. And the horchata delish. You can taste the cinnamon and the sugar. Put that together with the tacos. A perfect meal. Even though the outside looks a little sketchy. All of the food places that have a sketchy outside has great food. Really good place come here soon

Best for on the go, not expensive but somewhat healthy if your trying to eat fast food.

First time here on a road that is full of taco joints. I ordered the burrito regular and four tacos. And of course you know the meats got to be carne Asada! My Order was quickly taken at the register. And about four minutes later my food was ready to pick up. I was never offered any sides/condiments/limes, and they are not out or accessible to the public. You have to ask, if you remember. But the food was amazing, all the tortillas are spot on tasty as though they were homemade and rolled in the back. I will definitely hit this place up again if I am ever in the area.

Staff is incredibly friendly. Where i live there's only a Taco Bell and when I went here to Tacos El Grullense last night, I was FLOORED by how much food you get for practically half the price of Taco Bell. Like Taco Bell gives you a plate, Tacos El Gruellense gives you the table AND the feast! I highly recommend! AND THEY HAVE VEGETARIAN OPTIONS FOR EVERY MENU ITEM!!! I'm a vegetarian and this made me so happy.

If you have been to Redwood City before you have heard or seen at least one El Grullense. This is the perfect place to go when you're craving greasy spicy food. This one is my favorite location, for many reasons one being that it has a drive thru. It's so convenient to drive by and get some delicious food. This time I got two Al pastor sopes, it came with lettuce and red salsa. I get it without the onions or cilantro. I know I know, I might be the only Mexican that doesn't like cilantro. This location is kept pretty clean, it's busy so I'm impressed that it's kept clean. If you haven't tried this place, you have to try it. Everything here is so good, can't go wrong with the torta, tacos, sopes, or burrito well really anything you pick is good

I've had many tacos in my lifetime and this El Grullense tops the cake (even compared to most of the other El Grullenses in the area). What makes this location special is the salsas, the red and green salsas are spicy and extremely flavorful. I've never had salsa verde quite like this one and if I could figure out the recipe, I would be set for life! Anyways, the sopes, tacos, burritos, and quesadillas are so delicious! Their horchata is perfectly balanced for thickness, sweetness, and cinnamon flavor. It's so refreshing to not have a watered down horchata. Their service is also responsive, fast, and never stingy! + to top it all, they have a drive thru When I go there, I don't expect overly friendly service or fancy ambiance (I know some of the other reviews complain about these things), but I always know I will get great food, which ultimately matters most to me

Food is authentic no bs, they barley put fat in the meat which make my day, service is good and quick, plus I skip school to come eat here with my mom

I have been coming to this grullense drive-thru location in middle field for years, i dont know if theres been a change of ownership or what, but the customer service is awful, i came in with some friends and the cashiers were unfriendly, seemed that they were annoyed to be working there, they gave us 2 napkins, i repeat 2 napkins for a $45 dollar order, when i went to ask for extra napkins they again gave us 2 napkins, they charged us $1.90 for 1 tiny sour cream sauce, and they gave us 1 hot sauce per order. I have never seen this type of rationing in any restaurant in the area, to the owner who seems eager to reply to all comment i ask you this, if you are so stingy, so greedy, and aint making money then shut down, i have noticed many other customers with these same exact issues, i will never again go this place and i will be sure to tell all my friends/coworkers of this silly practice of rationing items

I have been here a total of four times and all four times they have gotten my order wrong. It's actually unbelievable how many times its happened in a row. If you like getting your order messed up come here if you don't go down the street to tacos el grullense #2 They know how to write down orders and their food quality is overall quality is better

I ordered 6 tacos and one regular burrito without salsa and when I got home and started eating I noticed that my burrito was really spicy and realized it had salsa.

I order a carne asada burrito and they gave me a rice burrito with 4 pieces of meat. Very bad service they have especially the lady taking the orders in the register. They always give me the wrong order and I have to repeat my order multiple times. They deserve a -5 star review.

Quick tip ALWAYS get your salsa (esp roja ) on the side lol it's hella spicy sometimes too much.

One of my favorite places to get food from! Always recommending this place to anyone who loves tacos as much as I do. The red salsa is top tier and so is the horchata. The tortillas from a taco are NEVER dry it takes a while to get your food but at least you know that their team is making your food fresh I strongly recommend getting an Asada sope with extra red sala con chiles en vinagre. You know it's good when you hear a crunch! THIS PLACE IS DRIVE THRU - what more could you ask for from a taqueria? Sad to see all them one stars. The team here are also people so be mindful.

Food is alright I asked for light sauce on my burrito sauce was at the end of the burrito... We asked for extra napkins gave us attitude while handing them over I asked for extra carrots for a 4 people who were sitting down in there restaurant gave us a bit so I went to ask again and the lady who was taking orders was like "we don't have anymore" with a rude ass attitude and gave us and ugly face. We ordered to go and we ended up finding out they did have carrots just didn't want to give me any because they added them to the order to go. This same lady who took our order was just so awfully rude, her customer service sucks. We aren't coming here again. Fix your customer service and then I will be coming back. Everyone else I recommend going to other gurillenses around the area. They are way better than this one, very upset with my dine in experience.

BOMB! I get the carne asada quesadilla with rice and beans. OMG ! So good. I also get the carne asada Torta with rice and beans and that thang is good too. Only thing is late night they only speak Spanish and I only speak English so ordering it the way I like it can be tough. Definitely will be back as always!

If you are missing the Taco el G's that was by Sequoia Station prior to COVID, this is the other one. I love this place. It has a drive thru. It's my 1st one I'd rather go to than others in RWC. Muchos Gracias amigos!

Today before going to a concert my husband and I decided to get drive thru tacos. My husband always said about this taco place: order what you want and you get what they want to give you, which was true ones again. I ordered 5 tacos de bistec with a little onion and no chiles, and my husband asked for 5 tacos de pollo little onion. When we got to the concert we wanted to eat our food, well my husbands tacos were with a lot of onions, and my tacos were with so much onions and chile that I couldn't eat them. So, I had to throw the tacos on the garbage as my husband can only eat chicken. I am so devastated that i couldn't eat my tacos even though I was craving them for the longest. So if you come here just remember that you order what you want but you get what they want.

This is my go to spot for all my tacos quesadilla burritos etc.... I live in Vegas & I make sure when I'm in the bay I go visit Redwood City just for this place the service & food is always on point, they make me feel welcome every time

This is the best Mexican food in the Bay Area hands down. The quality of the meat, the tortillas and the sauce were amazing. The hot sauce is probably the best I've had as it's a secret homemade recipe. Not sure what these other reviewers are talking about but they might be expecting an "american" unauthentic restaurant that gives you free chips and a señor frogs hat with your meal. The food is delicious and as authentic as it gets. I will be coming back reguarly to get my favorite Sopes... which was sooo tasty. Come here, you won't regret it!

I don't recommend this place the workers there are very rude I went and they messed up my order and I nicely told the cashier about it and she just gave me attitude and rolled her eyes at me , and every time I go through the drive thru they mess up my order and the lady is very rude !

El Grullense is a Redwood City staple. For years, my family and I have enjoyed stopping by for a sit down meal, or just a quick pit stop after landing at SFO (yes it's worth the drive and yes this location is open late!!) Maybe the staff doesn't greet you with cheerful hellos but i have have always been greeted when it's my turn in line, they are quick and the food is always fresh. Not to mention delicious. A friendly heads up, if you take your order to go, the tacos may slide around on the plate...ask for toppings on the side so your food doesn't get smooshed or soggy! I'm really sad to see one of my favorite restaurants receive such low ratings; shocking really! These reviews are not reflect the business or food, as a whole. Don't let this unfair rating system frighten you, this place is totally worth it!!

The food was amazing and the customer service was just as excellent! They're very fast paced when giving out your order and although they seem to be very busy, they still make time to help their customers out as best as they can. I'll definitely come back again!

Ordered 3 Carne Asada and 2 Carnitas tacos. Order was wrong. They were so busy, they were just handing out food. At least four people returned to the pick up window because their order was wrong. Price is cheap, but so is the quality. I tried the 3 carne asada tacos. Meat was very fatty. Salsa was very spicy, but with no taste. Lots and lots of onions. Tried to make up for the small quantity of meat with lots of fillings. Very disappointed as locals say this is good food.

This is the fourth time this happens to me. I arrived to El Grullense today around 10:00 pm. I tried to order a quesadilla and a torta and was told that they ran out of they're own product that is being displayed on they're own food signs. Keep in mind today is Monday the beginning of a new week where they should have had they're own morning delivery with enough product to last the entire day, I don't know much about working at El Grullense but I do work in a restaurant myself and always see that every Monday morning we get fresh products to last us for the entire day and the next day to come before the next delivery. In my own opinion I believe this is Grullense is not worth visiting and would recommend going to the little green Grullense right next to it.

I consider this a hidden gem in the bay. My family recommended this place to me and I just keep coming back. This place is definitely on my top three favorite Mexican restaurants in California. Their salsa is really unique, and they don't shy away from spice. I wish they weren't so far from me but I always look forward to stopping by whenever I'm back in the Bay Area. I definitely recommend adding it to your list of places to eat as well Rohit

Only spot in Redwood City that serves decent Mexican food. Go for the quesadilla :-) u won't regret it. Beware: they are extremely cheap with their delicious salsa. The amount of food you order is of no importance to them, as they will only ever provide you with 2 small /tiny containers of salsa (even when you order 2 burritos and a quesadilla). I have offered to pay them extra but they have not yet accepted my offer. I will keep trying...

I've been coming here for 5 plus years this used to be the spot, I probably won't go back any More, I came in yesterday around 530 pm. I ordered A super burrito de asada con todo salsa verde ( they ended up putting red sauce), I ordered a quesadilla de asada con todo salsa verde EXTRA CARNE Y QUESO which didn't have have the xtra meat or cheese, i also got 3 sopes de asada con todo salsa verde finally they got one part of my order right last i got 2 tacos de lengua no Chile for my wife's GMA thankfully they didn't mess up these tacos too . they charge you for extra stuff and never add it! This has been the 5th time they do this and when you mention it in the drive through the lady gets a damn attitude! Like why why why! Why the Attitude if I'm paying for this! The cook yesterday was horrible too looked super nervous, food was so bad I should of went to chipotle instead of here $45 down the drain, I'll Probaly start going to 5th Ave el G or the one by Costco,

I ordered a reg. burrito with NO ONIONS, the bag said "Sin Nada" and they gave me a burrito with literally a whole onion. I wasn't even half way through my burrito and this is how many onions I pulled out AWFUL!!!! This is not okay. I am extremely disappointed. I have ordered here MORE THAN ONCE, and they ALWAYS DO THIS. THIS IS NOT THE FIRST OR SECOND TIME. Pedí un burrito regular, SIN CEBOLLA, la bolsa decía "Sin Nada" y me dieron un burrito con literalmente una cebolla entera. Ni comí la mitad del burrito y en el photo es cuantos cebollas que saqué del burrito ¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¿ Esto no esta bien. Estoy bien enojada y no es el primer o secunda vez.

Horrible customer service with employees who do not know how to greet you or even say thank you. Today at 4/25/2022 at 6:03 pm we decided to order inside the restaurant. I was the only one inside at the time as a customer and there where maybe one car in drive thru as my order was being skipped many times for drive thru customers that were coming in. When my number was called out 30 minutes after waiting I notice it was not what I ordered; my order was handed out to a person who came 15 minutes after me. I told the personal about my wrong order, they did not apologized or even asked if I was willing to wait for my order to be prepared again. I asked for my meat to be prepared well done and my request was ignored. No thank you or a simple apology.

Im only giving one star cause the food was good but when I ordered a supreme burrito (lengua). They barely put any meat in my burrito it was mostly beans and rice and the beans liquid made my burrito soggy. I recommend if you do want a burrito that you pick a different meat and not lengua. Or go to a better restaurant. I know of one but it's in Half Moon Bay I just didn't feel like driving far but I guess next time I will. If anyone is interested the restaurant name is Taqueria Tres Amigos.

This tacos place is on of my favs but every time I come to the Tacos el grullense drive thru this lady always give us so much attitude for no apparent reason . Like today she was yelling at my boyfriend because he reached over for a straw for his drink and this MAD ASS lady started yelling at us like wtf and she even rushed us to order talking about are you guys ready or should I wait but with an attitude so be careful when visit this location she's very rude and unprofessional.

I would give negative stars but Unfortunately I love their food... This location is rude and apparently not exactly up to code . I just got Sope Carnitas from this location and as I was eating the last few bites I realized there was big pieces of plastic in my carnitas. I was already full, and not really upset.. the plastic looked like the plastic the meat comes wrapped in so I just kinda shrugged it off.. like mistakes happen. I just wanted the restaurant to be aware that there was plastic in my meat so no one else got any. So I kindly gave them a curtesy call.. right off the bat the employee was instantly defensive and told me I was wrong, I have the wrong place, I have to being my food back for it to be inspected... when all I wanted to do was be kind and let them know of the problem. I wanted nothing in return. So much for having a convenient Tacos El Grullense right down the street. I'm disgusted on how they handled my courtesy call. I wonder what other things people have found in the food now.... and what they've ignored...

These are the best tacos ever and honestly drive all the way from Fremont to Redwood City just to get tacos at least once a week. They have the best food in the bay area from tacos to burritos to sopes to tortas. It has the best flavor and their salsa is not watery at all. The horchata is also the bomb. You have to check this place out to know what real Mexican food is

Went through the drive through today, and ordered four tacos with everything & to my surprise they just gave me the tacos with just the tortilla & meat & absolutely nothing on top. I had to drive back & get my order right. There's always something they forget, because it's not the first time, they're always busy talking & laughing having the time of their life lol. Nah but get it together. Se pasan.

these are probably one of my favorite tacos thus far. The salsa here is my FAVORITE. I drive from SF to Redwood City just to have these tacos. The prices are amazing & there's a drive-thru!!!

NEGATIVE 5 STARS - On Sunday March 24th my sister, brother in law and I went to grullense drive thru on middlefield road in Redwood City to get some burritos, once we got home and started eating our burritos my sister bit into her burrito and chipped her molar due to a ROCK in her burrito . I have questions ,One why is there a rock in a burrito.?Two how clean and sanitary is this place? After that incident my brother in law contacted EL GRULLENSE , they did not have a manager on site and they took his information down for a call back. He still hasn't received a call back. If you want to keep a beautiful smile and all your teeth then I would not recommend this place. On top of that their service is HORRIBLE , and when you ask for EXTRA salsa Verde they give you attitude and never wanna give any extras they act like it's coming out their paycheck

Ordered 4 tacos and a side a rice. The tacos needed seasoning and were drenched in oil. The rice looked great but tasted like cardboard. Getting 3 stars not for the taste but for the price, very affordable. Not again, especially not when there are many other tacos spots in the same street!! Don't order rice & grab some salt for your tacos!

I ordered tacos specifically with NO SALSA. They gave me my tacos with SALSA and when going back to tell them she says "you ordered it w/ it, says on the receipt". and all she said was "Well sorry".. I'M SORRY but if someone ordered something and got it WRONG they should remake it. I've worked in food, & that's what you do. SUCH RUDE STAFFING. Food is good otherwise, but they need happier people who are working to serve w/ smiles & not just make a paycheck. 1/15/2020 around 4:30PM.

As always this place hits the spot. El Grullense always has fast service even if there is a massive line and the workers are polite. If you're not sure what to get I highly recommend the sopes de asada, tortas, and birria. Also their horchata is delicious.

THE BEST MEXICAN FOOD HANDS DOWN! I stopped here on a whim and I was not disappointed. The portions were generous and the service was excellent. Definitely a must if you find yourself in the area. I know I'll be back when I visit town again.

While there are what seems to be a Tacos El Grullense on every corner, there's a lot to like about this establishment. It was listed in the SF Chronicle as a top Bargain Bites and I stopped by for an early snack. Hours are fantastic, opening at 8 am daily and closing at 1 am. There is a roomy parking lot and they even have a drive through a la McDonald's where they take your order and you drive up to a single window to pay and pick up your grub. It takes a few minutes as your order is made once put in, but it's still convenient. Finally, Tacos El Grullense accepts all credit cards, including American Express. Convenience.

I love the drive thru here because... seriously at night, this area gets pretty sketch. This place also has its own parking lot if you feel inclined to eat inside. I absolutely dread finding street parking in this area. The sopes and tacos are both pretty good-- at $1.25 a pop for tacos you get what you pay for. They are a bit greasy and tasty and are basic tacos. This is the perfect place for when its late, you have a craving for mexican food, and you don't want to change out of your PJs. The drive through only takes a couples of minutes. Don't forget to ask for the hot sauce. PS- they take credit cards! hooray!

The menu is loaded with options and all of the pictures look damn good. As we waited on line, we saw a lady chowing on tacos and that's how I made my decision. Side note, the pot full of roasted jalapenos should not be dismissed nor should they be taken lightly. Those peppers, on this day at least, were spicy!! We ordered up some tacos and this is how it's supposed to be done. Two corn tortillas, heated up on the comal, meat, cilantro, raw onion, dab of salsa. That's it! Carnitas was pretty solid, but the pastor was much much better. Flavors were on point and everything was solid. We also had an order of taquitos and it lacked seasoning. I will give them credit for making them to order. The fry on this item was spectacular and clearly was not sitting under a heat lamp. I'd definitely stop in again, but realistically, I wouldn't drive all the way down here just to pop in. Enjoy!!

The taco beast has been unleashed. Went here both nights this weekend and they still do not disappoint! DEEEELICIOUS. Their lightly toasted corn tortillas cradle perfectly seasoned meat with a sprinkle of cilantro and onion, drizzle of lime, and dash of hot sauce. But their horchata is getting extremely cinnamony. You actually get an entire mouthful of cinnamon in each sip. Guess it can double up as dessert! The drive through is quick and convenient for late night taco runs. They also now accept credit/debit cards if your order is more than $10! That is 9 tacos in case you're wondering. Or 7 tacos and one horchata!

My sister told us this place has the best Tripa tacos (tripe) so we decided to try them... they are fairly good BUT we saw that they also gave Birria. We bought an order. We went thru the drive thru and when we were at the window we asked if that was all our order they said yes. We got home (in San Jose) and Found that our Birria order was missing. Ok it happens we're all human ... we give them a call and they were really nice about it and admitted that they messed up and didn't give it to us. They said if you come back this way come By and we'll give it to you so I went back up that way Sunday and th When I was ordering I asked If they still had birria they said yes ... in the picture you'll see what we got. husband was pretty upset ... I don't think this was a full order .. or Is this what everyone else has got for $12.50?. Their was one piece of Meat and one bone in there. Not worth our drive ... won't be going there again. we've already told a couple of our friends that live that way about it .. just to give them a heads up when ordering this; IF they decide to go there.

The best tacos, the best service all time. Eloisa's cashier is friendly and very polite, ask for her a better service. Sopes are the best here, and the sauce is unbeatable. I recommend 100% I stop by this place on the weekend at night. I will always return.
