Denver’s Best Tacos | Eater Denver

"This spot does street-style tacos right, with two tortillas and plenty of panache. For a nifty change of pace, get them topped with delectably crispy tocino (bacon) or chicharrones as well as egg-battered chiles rellenos; then add a dollop of the sweetly spicy pineapple salsa for good measure." - Ruth Tobias

Seems like a new business. The food was okay—nothing exceptional, but decent. There was only one person handling both orders and service, which caused some delays. Hopefully, with time and more staff, the experience will improve.

Google
Great little spot w/some fantastic tacos. edit: been back a couple times and might be the unsung hero of Mexican food in Denver.

Google
Great food. Friendly service and excellent price. Clean environment! The salsa is so good- it makes you want to slap your mama!!

Google
A delicious meal! Great salsas, good vibes, and an attentive staff that made me feel welcome. I couldn’t ask for anything more!

Danielle W

Google
Went in for a late lunch, service was good, chips and salsa we good (they make fresh tortilla chips), and the tacos were delicious. Their orange sauce/salsa is super good.

Google
Excellent food - I had the huequito burrito. Even the tortilla chips were exceptional! Don't skip this hole in the wall!

Google
We had a fantastic experience at Tacos el Huequito! The food was absolutely delicious and the service was excellent. We have struggled to find Mexican cuisine we like here in CO, but this place serves some of the best authentic Mexican food hands down. Highly recommend! Our server, Luis was so patient with us as first timers and provided an amazing experience throughout our meal!

Google
Great little Mexican place off the beaten path. Got 4 tacos and let me tell you they're amazing! The beans and rice are great, the service is excellent. They serve alcohol too for anyone who wants a margarita or beer with their tacos. Price is super reasonable. Hands down better than the restaurant we spent $300 at the night before!

Yelp
Stumbled upon this hole in the wall track place when I was in the neighborhood and looking for a bit for lunch. It's colorfully decorated, service was great, and the food came out really quickly! I had the chicken mole, which was really delicious. This dish was unique because the chicken was seasoned in addition to being smothered in mole sauce. Lots of great flavors and a good sized portion for an affordable price. Eating the leftovers for dinner now. They also have daily specials that look like great deals.

Yelp
From the moment I walked in, I was transported back to one of my favorite taquerias from home. The vibes were spot on, and the warm welcome from the server made the experience even better. I tried to keep my order modest (this time ), but I already can't wait to go back and explore their full menu--plus, their breakfast and brunch look ! MY ORDER: Chorizo, Al Pastor, and Carne Asada tacos on corn tortillas with melted cheese on the bottom. BEST BITE: I'm a sucker for a good carne asada taco, and this one exceeded my expectations. The beef was perfectly seasoned, the corn tortillas were next level, and the al pastor was equally delicious. As for the chorizo--can you go wrong with a good chorizo taco? Sometimes, yes. But not here!

Yelp
This is definitely a hidden gem! We were in town visiting our son who has been there many times. Lorena, the waitress/owner was super sweet! The food was excellent! Lorena's husband cooks all the meals. The prices are great and the portions are perfect! The place is bright and cute! It's family friendly! We will definitely go back!

Yelp
This place is a hidden gem in a semi-industrial/residential hybrid area near the National Western. The food is fantastic, though! And the service is quick and friendly. We came here after the gem show and had a great lunch with really good salsas and margaritas.

Yelp
First time customer. I had the Al Pastor tacos and they're delicious! Great portions too, and I'm a big guy. The environment was very relaxed and the service was excellent! I live in the neighborhood so I'll definitely be back!

Yelp
Great service and great food. Visited before a concert at Mission Ballroom, and it was a nice quiet afternoon. Enjoyed the food very much. I had the flautas and my wife had the enchiladas. We will be back.

Yelp
The atmosphere is a mix of industrial; Mexican decor; and tacky, tapped, HH promotions. We were warned the spicy shrimp dish required access to a fire extinguisher. It delivered fire - via, my guess, dynamite green chili powder. The small serving size, itty-bitty shrimps, and dirth of flavor left me wishing I had ordered something else. The house margs were too sweet. What gives with the plastic, pink pitcher? Visually unappealing. The tequila was 100% agave. The chorizo won best of plate. Great seasoning. They serve breakfast items, too. I would definitely order eggs and chorizo. The incredibly small serving of guacamole saved us from having to eat bland, funky avocado. The price value for this appetizer fails the reasonable person test. Never again. The smothered crispy relleno was saved by topping it with chorizo. Way too costly for the quality and quantity of the food. Adios Tacos El Huequito. One and done.

Yelp
Stopped in for a lunch and it was very tasty. Food came out super quick and really Enjoyed the rice and beans. Can't wait to visit again.

Yelp
Hidden place in Denver. The food was delicious and full of flavor. The service could have been a bit better, we were the only ones here at the time. The restaurant had a good vibe and also good music playing in the background. Honest review- good eats, location could be improved.
google avatar

Yelp
El Heuquito is back in action in a new location! The new restaurant is very spacious, with a warm industrial feel. The menu consists of tacos, burritos, chili cheese fries, chile relleno. Off menu are torts and their daily special. I'm sure we will see more of the old menu items soon. The flavor is great. The service on point. I'm so happy TEH is back in action!

Yelp
Friends and I enjoy trying restaurants we've never tried before. I can't wait to come back. The neighborhood is changing drastically. I would suggest visiting before the neighborhood takes over, and you'll be on a wait list. The first impression is the chips and salsa. Homemade chips were light and crispy. We ordered more. The Mexican corn was so delish that we ordered a second round. Chilaquiles was full of flavor. The green chili is vegetarian and tasty. I ordered the Barbacoa plate. It was a lot of food. Loved the flavors. I want to go back before word gets out how amazing this place is. Parking is off the street, and if they're busy, it's spars. Support small and local business. I wish them all the success. They were super kind.

Yelp
We tried to place an order but they did not answer there phone, I think they closed early

Yelp
Service was fantastic. Ambiance - welcoming, clean. Owners- friendly. Food- I would probably give 3.5 stars based off of food alone. The green Chile sauce on top of my burrito was more of a butter sauce which is different than anything I've ever had on Mexican food and personally I would never order again on top of my food. It was overwhelming and made my belly feel ick since I do not eat that much butter so I couldn't eat much of my meal. Later I had bubble guts so did my partner who also had the Chile sauce on their meal. But to be fair, the owner let me try it in a little dish before I ordered it but I guess it's good in small quantities like dipping a chip in it. The Al pastor was tougher than I'd like or expect- it was small chunks. The chorizo was good! Chips, queso and salsa were amazing.

Yelp
Ok so my friend and I were wanting Mexican food and found this spot. They just opened this location in a new apartment building - don't be turned off though it's clean, open, airy, and the people are so friendly! They have a big menu with a wide variety of options. I love that they put beans in their burritos too - the veggie burrito with beans was so good! The tortilla was grilled perfectly. My friend got a few different tacos, including chorizo and barbacoa. The latter was her favorite. The complimentary chips and salsa were clearly freshly made with spicy salsa. If you're in the neighborhood, give this place a try. It's phenomenal!

Yelp
Was in the area and found the nearest taco spot. I would drive 35 miles from my house to eat here again. It's a bit hidden, very clean and has a friendly staff. My tacos were amazing!! My husband got chile rellenos and ate them before I could get a picture. They said they were 5 stars and he's super picky.

Yelp
O. M. G. this place is amazing. We were so happy to have stumbled upon it. Parking lot is a little tight. They do have indoor seating + takeout. We got 2 varieties of the burritos and both were delicious. Try the el huecito- it is smothered in a spicy sauce. Stuffed with fries meat cheese and even comes with avocado free of charge! The el huecote was delish as well - had fries as well but more of your standard burrito. The al pastor was my favorite. We tried that as well as the carne asada. Both were good! You must get the homemade hot sauce here - delicious. It seems like they sell it as well. The couple that owns the restaurant is so sweet! We will definitely be back!

Yelp
Great local spot with authentic flavors. Try the corn! So good. Hoping others frequent so they stay in business!

Yelp
Tacos El Huequito is delicious. I loved walking over for breakfast burritos during snowstorm. Now that they have a larger space with more room it is a delight to sit and eat, and chat with the owners. If you go, try the horchata. You can thank me later.

Yelp
This place is absolutely the truth! They were so nice to me!!! And yes, this is easily the best burrito that I've had in Denver in all of my visits!

Yelp
Restaurant is clean. Friendly service. Love the music. Now for the important part: The food. Delicious! Got the 3 taco plate. Al Pasto, Barbara, and Birra. Each is an amazing example of the respective type. Would highly recommend! Beans and rice, usually pretty mundane, were very tasty as well. If you're looking for a taco fix; this is the spot. Will definitely be back.

Rub Z.

Yelp
Great service and amazing Tacos de Birria!!!! I recommend this great place. Lively atmosphere too

Sarah G.

Yelp
The food is awesome and the atmosphere is fun and relaxed. We come here as often as we can with our whole family. Never change! The service is great too.

Yelp
Yearning to try a new Den-Mex spot, I popped in as I had no idea there was a restaurant here despite using this road regularly to bypass traffic. If you are unfamiliar, it is tucked away in an industrial area rife for development in the "new" Denver. It is worth the treasure hunt if you are into this sort of thing. It is striking how welcoming and down to earth the owners are. This is a family run joint, with a husband and wife duo at the forefront. They relocated their business to here in the last few months or so from their previous residence at 46th and Josephine. The food is very good if you are open to enjoying the Den-Mex scene. If you are not into Den-Mex, then you may want to consider somewhere else, although I'd argue you are missing out when it comes to this regional take on Mexican. I opted for a combination platter to try multiple items as a newbie. Their quesabirria taco is very good, as well as their tinga flauta. The green chile tomato gravy is mild and has a nice consistency for smothering. Their salsa that accompanies the complimentary chips is mild as well. I didn't think to ask if they had different heat levels. I was very content with my meal and the service. And I will be sure to return to support this family and feast on their delicious Den-Mex comfort food.

Yelp
We had the Chili Relleno burrito and a breakfast burrito. Both were delicious from the first bite to the last. Our meal was served with warm tortilla chips and fresh salsa roja. Service was quick, and friendly. If you like Mexican food, this place is the real deal. We'll be back.

Clyde S.

Yelp
There are two ways to think about this restaurant. One is that this is a family run business, with a homey welcoming feel. The other is that they serve great food, made fresh from fresh ingredients. The Al pastor tacos are delicious. So is the Carne Asada. The smothered Buritos are filling and wonderful. Stopping in here makes the day better!

Magnum W.

Yelp
Would give 0 stars if I could to these bozos they can barely crank out anything any decent anymore on top of that, the rude attitude i've been produced to is unnecessary fearwell.

Yelp
Breakfast burrito tour 2021 Stop #5! After a brief breakfast burrito hiatus, I will commit to being back with a vengeance. I started my vengeance tour at this little hole in the wall on York right near interstate 70 overpass. From the outside this place doesn't look like much, it sits in a very run-down strip mall. Looks were definitely deceiving though, the inside of this place is sparkling clean and very well put together. I went with my usual chorizo breakfast burrito and it was absolutely delicious! The chorizo was very flavorful and the green chili inside had a fantastic kick, not too spicy but just enough. My food came out quickly, a couple minutes tops, and the service was super friendly. I love finding places like this off the beaten track, I will definitely be back soon!

Sabrina H.

Yelp
Came from florida Miami to visit family and they recommended this place. Service is really good, understanding people, I say it's worth the visit and you'll enjoy

Brendan C.

Yelp
Definitely some of the best tacos that I've had in Denver recently. I had not been to the food truck, and we really our dining experience. Churros were very good as well, and generally not my thing.
google avatar

Bradley P.

Yelp
This place had the best el huequito burrito i could barely finish it it was huge and for only 7$ deal
google avatar

Linda G.

Yelp
Perfect little taco joint. The barbacoa is real beef cheek, not just shredded beef. The rice and beans were flavorful. The rice was fluffy and the refried beans were creamy. The staff was friendly and helpful.

Cassie A.

Yelp
Some of the BEST Mexican food I've had living in Denver. They recently opened and are still finding their perfect groove for service but everyone was friendly and helpful. Everything was very clean and the music was just loud enough to make conversations feel private. Would definitely recommend!

Armando R.

Yelp
Delicious food and its the real deal not one of those fake ass 8 dollars for a whack AF hipster taco places. This has authentic Mexican food, great prices and owners are really cool. I used to go to their food truck all the time and glad they found a spot to kick it.

Yelp
If you're looking for breakfast burrito bliss, look no further. The burritos at Tacos El Huequito are stuffed full of crispy potatoes, green chili bursting with flavor, and a generous portion of cheese and meat. I was already halfway through it before I even remembered the salsa, which never happens. The hot salsa is Hot!! And sooo delicious. I can't wait to come back and try their lunch offerings. Definitely a gem. Clean, welcoming, friendly and great vibe. Thanks Tacos El Huequito!

Yelp
Family owned little restaurant with really great food and fantastic customer service...yumm!yumm

Yelp
I stopped at this place by curiosity for lunch and I was definitely impressed. Service was outstanding place is humble but super clean, I tried the carne asada tacos and they were absolutely delicious and well presented. My biggest surprise was the chips and salsa easy to tell that they are homemade and super tasty. I tried to go back with my family but their business hours are limited mainly during the day. I highly recommend it great food, super quick and outstanding service by the young couple who work or own this place. I'm a future regular

Yelp
Amazing restaurant, loved the chili rellanos plate was to die for. Maybe a tough location with the construction but well worth it!
google avatar

Abby H.

Yelp
Lorena and Ramon have an amazing restaurant! I first discovered their food truck at a brewery in Platt Park and now venture out of the neighborhood to get my Mexican fix! I studied abroad in Guanajuato, MX and their food is the best Mexican I've had in the states. Their both super friendly and the food is second to none!

C D.

Yelp
SO GOOD! My favorite is the chicken Torta, but I love everything, especially the tacos. The owners are awesome, so positive and caring. They also follow Covid protocols, which is so important in these times. THANK YOU Tacos El Huequito. Delicious: every, single, time! Oh! And fantastic menu and beverage choices! Yuuuuuummmmm! :)
google avatar

Mark W.

Yelp
This is hands down the best taco shop I've found in the area since moving here 3 years ago. As a San Diego native, I'm naturally a Mexican food snob and this is the real deal.
google avatar

Sergio G.

Yelp
There's really nothing special to the flavor of the food or sauces here, I'd rather go to Illegal Pete's.
google avatar

Tristan B.

Yelp
I love Tacos El Huequito! Both their brick & mortar location and their truck have great food. The tacos are top notch and their smothered burrito is amazing.
google avatar

Michael T.

Yelp
Food was delicious! Service was great! Staff was very friendly! A hidden gem in my opinion!

Jen V.

Yelp
Tried for the first time today after driving by many times not knowing it was there. Had the taco plate which was fantastic and priced right. Comes with choice of three tacos with beans and rice. The owners are kind, the food is delicious, and the salsas are on point. Will definitely be back. Bonus points for taking Apple Pay!
google avatar

Mindy L.

Yelp
We fell in love with the food truck and are so excited that the owners decided to open a brick and mortar location! The food is just as delicious as the truck - but with an expanded menu including breakfast and burritos with French fries inside. Huge portions and lovely people. Can't wait to visit again!

Stephanie S.

Yelp
Food is sooo good- we got two barbacoa tacos with one chorizo. Portions are larger than most taco places and everything was super savory. It was 3 tacos for $9 or one for $3.75. A friend got nachos and their chips also tasted homemade. Loved it!

James G.

Yelp
Tacos el huequito just opened their restaurant near 46th and York and I highly recommend their food. Great service with great food!!! Try the al pastor tacos the marinade is amazing!
