Spotlighted by QC Nerve and supported by rave recent reviews, Birrieria El Patron has brought the rich, slow-cooked flavors of Jalisco-style birria to the heart of Concord. The house specialty—birria de res, served with consommé for dipping—has quickly become a local sensation. The menu also features creative birria quesadillas and fresh aguas frescas. The staff’s focus on quality and authenticity, plus a relaxed, friendly atmosphere, keeps diners returning for more.

So delicious, with lots of choices., and attentive, friendly staff. Our first visit but we will be back! We loved the agua frescas— sweet, refreshing and homemade! The salsa was mild, super fresh and had a great flavor. We ordered the quesachorizo and ate the entire bowl with their fresh house made chips. The quesabirria is amazing—thick with cheese and birria, and so big you can share. Served with consumme and limes, it’s juicy and decadent. We tried the tacos al pastor, carnitas, chicken a la plancha and cabeza (beef cheek). Tacos are served authentically, with onion and cilantro and with limes, radishes and onion on the side. The chicken is seasoned perfectly, and the meats were all tender and flavorful. The different salsas with the tacos are all delicious with varying levels of spice —I mixed and matched. We also got a torta, which was huge and stacked with meat and toppings. We couldn’t finish it all, but still ordered fruit with tajin —watermelon, mango, strawberries, grapes—which was a perfect end to a hot day. Can’t wait to come back and try more options—including the handmade tortillas.

Passing through with my brother on a work trip and stopped here. Great food, our waitress was also very nice and provided great service, the food was also great. The birria tacos are very good and the consume has a nice spice to it. Would recommend trying this place out if you haven't, the reviews don't lie.

Google
The food was absolutely delicious. It made me miss back home (mexico). The taste was so similar, everyone was so friendly. I work on the road (i live in texas) and I would most definitely take detours when i drive through here just to stop by. i had their Enchiladas verdes(i always add extra salsa verde) , choriqueso, and pozole rojo. My roomate had enchiladas rojas, 3 tacos, and corn.

Google
What a great find! We ended up here because Longhorn had a wait outside the doors, and we are SO glad! We will definitely be back. We were immediately greeted and shown a table, and within 5 minutes had been served our appetizer. The food was delicious! We ordered the choriqueso, and both had burritos. Fresh, authentic - and I had to order the flan to go 💕 The waitress Adriana was incredibly friendly and attentive, drinks and chips always refilled before we needed them. Great atmosphere! Highly recommend!!

Google
Well I was about to say that this is one of the best birria tacos I’ve tasted ever. Very seasoned. Ordered churros as well and found a roach after eating 2 😔. Very disappointed

Google
The food was decent but very tiny portions for what you get. I asked for a small side of cheese because my tacos barely had anything in it and I was told it would be an up charge. There was also no one else in there and it was just overall a horrible experience. I used to come here a few years back, but the portion size has completely changed and not worth the money

Tacos El Peladito is serving up some really delicious Mexican comfort food. The restaurant was inviting, the staff were friendly, and they start you off with complimentary chips and salsa. The chips were fresh, warm, and the salsa was super tasty. For my main course, I ordered the Chile Relleno with their freshly made tortillas! I have never had this dish before, but I was truly amazed by how flavorful and fresh everything was. Their handmade tortillas were some of the best I have ever had and each bite with some beans and rice felt like a great big warm hug. The chile relleno was yummy and the sauce covering it also had the perfect balance of heat. I couldn't have asked for a better first visit, and I would highly recommend stopping by here if you're in the area.

Google
First time here and it was delicious. Me and my boyfriend both got a combination of different street tacos and some guacamole to start with. Everything was tasty and savory. We both also got a medium margarita - and thank goodness we didn’t get a jumbo cause the medium was Huge.

Yelp
Low key, no frills Mexican restaurant serving up major flavor! The decor and music was very traditional and well done. I ordered the guac and birria tacos. The guac was good and tasted very fresh. The tacos were full of flavor. They have an option for 4 or 6 tacos. I went right at opening so service was great. Waiter was attentive and kind. I would definitely return if in the concord area!

Yelp
10/10 recommend I'm a Cali girl in my 4 years here haven't had many place that can do it like Cali where there is authentic Mexican food on every corner. Look no further, if you want the real. This is one of my go to Mexican restaurants, flavor is unmatched! The burritos are a must have along with the carne asada fries. Everything is always hot and fresh even with delivery service. Establishment is clean and service is quick and friendly. Keep up the great wo

Yelp
If you want authentic Mexican, I suggest you eat here! It's tucked away in a semi-busy shopping center in Concord. They offer several tequila options, and have signature margaritas. I ordered the "Quesabirria", which is a 10" wide pizza style dish made with tortillas and filled with birria, cilantro, and white onion. Of course, the provide a cup of consume as well. It was to die for. Also ordered Menudo, and 3 tacos (tongue, intestine, and cheek). Everything was incredible! I truly cannot wait to go back! Even the salsa they serve when you are seated is fresh and full of flavor. No bottled or bland salsa here! The service is decent, even though we had to wait a few times for refills, extras, etc. Price wise, you cannot beat it for the size of product you are given.

Yelp
Authentic food that always provides. If you dine in, these people are beyond polite. Takeout, they package everything perfectly and write so many notes. These people really care about their customers

Yelp
To be clear up front I ordered through Uber eats after finding it on Yelp. So in that way I cannot speak to the ambience to much as it was a quick in and out. I believe I ate her once before with family so I can say it's family friendly but this and the very nice gentleman I picked up my food from did make me feel like Keith Lee. Anyway the whole point of me saying anything is really cause of their Cali Burrito. It's everything you want out of a burrito with fries inside. I have heard of this and I have normally not gotten it. However this time I roll the dice and I was so happy I did. Half the burrito later I was beyond satisfied. I greedy stared at the other half before deciding to reluctantly save it. I ate on the salad it came with which tasted seasoned. As well as the sour cream. Not sure how I felt about that. Mainly cause I wasn't expecting it. But also I liked it cause then it was more than a basic salad. I would recommend.

Yelp
Wifey took me here good find a jewel of a spot to eat authentic Mexican food I had a menudo and it was good asf I would of ate another bowl but it's a lot of food wife had the qesibiria which is like a pizza

Yelp
Great service and amazing tacos. Only thing missing is draft beer.

Yelp
Tacos were great price - best carnitas and chicharron that I've had in CLT. Carnitas wasn't dry at all. Also had the barbacoa quesadilla - pretty meh - good flavor but mushy.

Renee L.

Yelp
Very nice server and I wasn't sure exactly what to get since this is not my normal Mexican place and sometimes they all taste different so I opted for nachos... They were delicious. Not just a little bit of cheese, but lots of cheese and great pickled jalapeños. Chips were very fresh!

Yelp
My group of 6 decided to try this place for dinner. It was my first time there but some of the others tried it and liked it. I am always willing to try out a Mexican restaurant. It all started with the typical ordering of drinks and being served up chips and salsa. The chips were good, hot, and crispy! The salsa tasted like pizza sauce with cilantro added to it. The salsa was the only thing that I didn't really like there. I ordered enchiladas topped with queso and served with rice and beans. They were delicious. Several people got the Tacos De Birria. This is a dish not found at many restaurants. They are wonderful! One person got the Arroz Con Pollo and another got the El Pastor tacos. Everything was good. The service was good. They added a "gratuity" to our bills for having 6 people in our party. I plan to return to support this family owned business.

Yelp
California Burrito is spectacular! I got mine as a to-go order because we didn't have time to stop and eat, so I can't speak to their sit down service. But the order was completed quickly, and the California Burrito reminded me very much of the ones I had in San Diego!

Yelp
Searching for tacos and this place came up. The rating and food pictures captured our attention. From the minute we walked in the service was exceptional! The staff make you feel welcomed. The food, oh my, EXCELLENT! We had the quesobirria pizza and it was perfectly grilled, and flavorful meat. We also had the carne asada, cochinita pibil, and alambre tacos, all great! Don't pass this place by!

Yelp
My coworkers and I specifically come to Tacos El Peladito to eat their tacos de birria. There are numerous other Mexican restaurants nearby who's birria we've tried as well but, Tacos El Peladito has proven to have the freshest food, friendliest staff, and cleanest restrooms/ dining area. The only negative thing I have to say is that I wish their salsa that is served with tortilla chips was homemade.

Katherine R.

Yelp
The staff is wonderful! Excellent and friendly service every time. Good for family and groups. I always get the torta.

Yelp
If I could give 10 stars, I would. Like you honestly will not find a more authentic, fresh taco near the 704. A lil wait, but it's worth it, cause it's a magical kitchen. Try all the tacos, even the ones that you're like, ehhhhh. Seriously. Everything is so good and seasoned. The chips, yum. The red tamales, OUT OF THIS WORLD. The salsa verde, addictive. The chocolate flan, perfect. Everything comes out hot. If you're looking for a sign, this is it. Service, attentive as hell, welcoming, kind. 10 stars as well.

Yelp
This restaurant confused me. The service was amazing except when it wasn't. Our server couldn't have been friendlier, and he was very helpful when it came to answering questions. I was not a fan of his constant "no problem" response to everything - if I'm giving you my order, under what circumstances would that BE a problem? It's a very strange response, in my opinion - but both me and my friend thought he was very attentive and helpful. Until my friend put in an order to go. It took about 30-40 minutes to receive the order, and the lengthy wait severely diminished our appreciation of the service. I loved the original salsa - it tasted fresh, a little sweet, and was very mild, and it was perfect. But the chips were too thick and didn't have much flavor, so I didn't eat many of them. The chips weren't warm and didn't taste homemade at all. I ordered the chicken enchiladas with the tomatillo salsa, and they were very good. They came with pinto beans and rice, and neither side had much flavor. The enchiladas tasted homemade (although the salsa could well have been from a jar), but the pinto beans tasted like they came straight from a can and the rice tasted like it was from a package. I genuinely got the sense that this restaurant was more authentically Mexican than most you can find in this area, but I also felt like they took many shortcuts when it came to the food itself. I can't imagine going back. I didn't hate it by any means. If anything, like I said at the beginning, I'm more confused than anything. But nothing about the meal made me want to come back a second time.

Yelp
Really cute restaurant visually. The staff was sooo nice. The bathrooms could be cleaner. My kids and I got an assortment of street tacos, and my husband got the California burrito. We also got chips and queso as an appetizer. The queso was good and the salsa was good (we got normal and asked for a hot salsa too). It didn't come with enough chips though to finish the queso. That was a bummer. The menu was kinda confusing when it came to chips- it said first basket is complementary sorta implying you had to pay for more? We did get a second basket and I don't think it showed up as a charge on the receipt though. My husband said his burrito was pretty good. The street tacos were really lacking though. The meat on the shredded chicken and steak was a little over cooked. The chicken had no flavor or seasoning at all. The Al pastor was the best one flavor wise and also cooked well. It was a good experience overall but I'd probably get something else on the menu to try if we go back. I'd also hope for more chips at these types of restaurants, that's usually the best part haha.

Yelp
I love family-owned businesses and this place has the best street tacos in the area! Food: Esquites: street corn with mayo, cheese, chili powder, and seasonings. Fabulous. The street tacos are great. We had al pastor, camera, tripa, and lengua. The tripa was crunchy like pork rinds and the al pastor sweet and savory. The restaurant prepares the al pastor meat in a trompo, how cool is that?! Also, it was my first time trying mole and it was thick, hearty, and delicious! Def want to clean the plate up with tortillas. The family gets the ingredients from Pueblo, where they're originally from, then prepare it in house for their patrons! My visit was amazing, the server answered my questions and I learned that mole differs depending on the region(Pueblo, Oaxaca, etc). The inside is spacious with eclectic decor and bomb salsa music. Patrons can come in, eat, and watch a good game of futból on TV. Check it out if you're ever in Concord!

Yelp
The Birria tacos here is SOOOOOOOO amazingggggg! The meat is PACKED with flavors.. and the shells are sooo flavorful and crunchy, and the spicy steak plate with rice and beans were also good and spicy. The chips are served fresh, the guac and salsa flavors are there, esquites and pina colada were also really good. Would highly recommend people to come and give this place a try. Juan was our server and he gave us amazing service! If I lived in this area I would definitely come here everyday!

Yelp
We relocated to Charlotte from Southern California 6 years ago. Mexican food was one of our absolute favorites and outside of a few taco trucks or hole in the wall places, we've been unable to find anything that evokes the same feelings or joy of authentic Mexican food. Then we found Tacos El Peladito. We were in the area for a doctor appointment with my son, and wanted to grab lunch. Saw this place on yelp and took a gamble. I cannot express to you enough how good the entire experience was. From the moment we walked in (we did take out) we were treated with warmth and friendliness. We ordered tacos birria, shrimp tacos, and three burritos (carne asada California style, and two carnitas house style). Hot salsas we're on point and varied. Habanero was the bomb, verde was great, chipotle was appropriately smoky, and chili de arbol was fragrant and wonderful. The birria was like eating a warm hug. Comforting and familiar, juicy, flavorful, perfect. We have told all of our fellow North Carolina Californians and we plan to return soon and frequently! It's a bit of drive for us but absolutely worth it. We just found our new favorite AUTHENTIC Mexican restaurant. Bravo! Muchas Gracias!!!

Yelp
What a great experience! We were just passing through stopped in and we were wowed by the delicious food.

Yelp
Please let me know if this is the same place that I went to. I was wondering why I've never heard anyone speak of this place. It was mediocre and I wasn't harsh on stars because it seemed to be clean and has around a 98 sanitation score, which is always important. I noticed upon entering I believe and I know for sure throughout menu about being patient because food is cooked to order which is fine with me. I enjoy fresh food, but the food was faster than the waitress. She literally took her title to heart "wait-rest" I'll call her. It took her minimum ten minutes to come take our drink order of our party of three and the restaurant only had 5 tables taken up. We were her only table and when she finally came to our table she didn't bring the one, yes I mean "1" complimentary basket of chips per table that I had to convince her to bring. This review is my opinion along with my party so use as you may. Our visit did not feel welcoming beyond the guy that seated us, then down hill from there. This is probably why we had never heard of this place. We've lived here well over five years and patronize many Mexican restaurants with a couple favorites but wanted to try something different. There may be others like me that absurd prices upset my stomach. The small tacos are like food truck tacos and are close to $3 each and there is an upcharge for any tortilla outside of corn. The attached pic is the Choriqueso and it was $8, pic doesn't do it justice as to how small the serving size was. I continued on with dinner but when I seen they charge an extra $2.50 to top burrito with queso I'd had enough and was ready to go. They wasn't about to get me a second time, no way no how! I'm disappointed because it was my decision to pick this place and previous reviews I feel failed me. My apologies for the run-on sentences

Yelp
I've been looking for authentic, delicious Mexican food here in Charlotte since I moved here... I'm Mexican and grew up in San Diego 10 min from the border, so my expectations are very high. We tried a little bit of everything-aguas frescas, gorditas, tacos, gorditas and a quesadilla. Everything was so good and flavorful! Service was extremely fast and waitresses are very attentive. You can tell it's family owned, there's love in every bite. I highly recommend this restaurant:)

Yelp
Loved our waiter and his knowledge of the menu and his politeness. He was attentive. We think his name is Emmanuel. Wasn't fond of the chips and salsa but loved their menu which had tons of things on it we hadn't seen before. We lived 4 miles from Mexico and have had a lot of Mexican food and everything we ordered was good especially the street corn.

Leia P.

Yelp
First time trying this restaurant, I got a birria burrito. The customer service was great, they were out of small salsa cups but he gave me chips and salsa for free anyway! Food was so yummy and they packed it with care, will definitely be back!

Zachary H.

Yelp
Amazing food and service. Personally, I believe their customer service is unmatched in the concord area.

Yelp
I came here on a random night with my husband & it was our first time. I liked it because it was real authentic mexican food. Which is hard to come around concord.

Yelp
Amazing food and people. The staff were very sweet and helpful. Great place to stop and eat. 10/10

Yelp
Yum! Got 3 chorizo tacos, queso, and street corn. Sooooo good. Can't wait to come back and dine in
google avatar

Shirla S.

Yelp
I've been here before & would've given 5 stars but I'm only giving one star due to how rude & inappropriate our check out went yesterday evening. After ordering my dinner date could not eat her food due to it being too spicy, giving her heartburn. She expressed this to the waiter & he stated that he would take it off after removing it from the table. I also ordered the same thing & it was spicer than normal & I voiced this as well. At check out the cashier stated that she wasn't taking it off due to it not being spicy, (she only took one bite) then processed to state that with her order she had a refill, which had nothing to do with the issue at hand. The cashier became irate and very rude. In turn we paid the entire order & Will Not Return. Very disappointed because they do have good food.

Yelp
We took a wrong turn on our way to another restaurant & saw this place & decided to give it a try & boy are we glad we did!!! Everything was delicious!!!

Penny C.

Yelp
Everything I had was very tasty along with an excellent presentation. Staff were polite and attentive. I highly recommend!

Yelp
Literally the BEST quesobirria tacos I've ever had! So good. Everything was good IMO. I had the elote and chorizo queso as well and it was all bomb! The first time I had birria tacos (at another restaurant ) the consume was so greasy and it was not good at all. This was a totally different experience and I will definitely order again. The salsa verde that comes with the tacos is also really good. 10/10!!!

Yelp
My family's favorite Mexican restaurant! The owners are very friendly. The food is delicious. We loved the green pozole, the taquitos and barbacoa tacos!
google avatar

Keanna R.

Yelp
Birria tacos and nachos are favorites and go-to's for any night. Service is amazing each time and the proportions are amazing for the price. Must try!

Aaron K.

Yelp
I've been here for lunch on three occasions. The food isn't the absolute best Mexican food I've had in Charlotte, but it's quite good. Perhaps their best asset is their very broad menu; they have things you can't find just anywhere, like mole and cochinita pibil and pambazos. They serve traditional, rather than Americanized, Mexican food, but their menu is in English and includes explanations of each dish.

Ken T.

Yelp
My family and I have been coming here on and off for the last 3 months. I wanted to wait to write a review until I could experience the place a few times. Originally being from California, I miss getting traditional Mexican food and this place has it all. The restaurant is clean, family owned, and the service is excellent every time we've come.

Yelp
Such great service ! The food was soo delicious . The Birria tacos were definitely my favorite and also the esquites. My family and I will definitely be returning again.

Yelp
The best restaurant for catering. Celebrating my wife's bday at home with only a few people. Isabel and her family are amazing, they had everything done on time and ready to serve. Didn't have to do much when the food was at home. Able to enjoy with family. Very reasonably priced and well served. Best authentic family owned restaurant yet!!

Dave C.

Yelp
Best street tacos in or around Charlotte. Authentic Mexican food, not your run of the mill tacos and burritos. Don't be afraid to try something special or new. You will be very pleased and ready to explore the whole menu. Great friendly service. They have a full bar,if you want a margarita. We hit this place weekly and have never been disappointed. The unusual hot sauces have real flavor, not just heat. Ask for Manny for the best experience.

Yelp
This place is awesome!! Great Tacos, Great Service, and the street corn is to die for-

Yelp
This place is amazing. Great customer service. The lady who I spoke to on the phone was very patient and kind. She explained the different tacos and items I could get. Our family will definitely be coming back for more Tacos. Also the beef tongue is amazing! Best one I have ever had with no gamy taste or irony taste. Just a very beefy and melt in your mouth explosion. I am so glad we finally found a place near home. #besttacoshandsdown

Yelp
One of the best Mexican restaurants in NC. I come here often and always order the tacos de birria, esquites, choriqueso, and horchata. Hits the spot every single time. The service is always top tier. Absolutely no complaints.

Erion L.

Yelp
Disregard Tommy's review below, this man must've never had anything but enchiladas in his life. This is the most authentic restaraunt I've been in NC, as I'm from Jersey and lived in one of the most diverse cities in the country. The birria tacos are the best and I'd eat here everyday if I could.
