🥑 Appetizers The guacamole was fresh with a nice kick of spice, and the chips were plentiful. For $7.50, it was a good portion to share between two people and have leftovers. 🧃 Drinks We got the Agua Fresca Tamarindo in the “small” size, though “small” was definitely an understatement. Flavorful and refreshing. 🌮 Mains We tried a variety of tacos: carne asada, chorizo, barbacoa, and the star of the show, the trompo. The trompo meat is cooked on a rotating spit, packed with flavor, and an absolute must-try. We’d recommend the barbacoa as it packs a lot of flavor. The Papa Asada is a baked potato loaded with trompo meat, carne asada, sour cream, and cheese. It’s quite filling on its own and offers a unique mix of flavors. Definitely try it if you’re looking for something a bit different. 🎖️ Service Our server was warm and attentive. She gave great recommendations and checked in on us throughout the meal. ⭐ Overall Rating: 4/5 A small hole-in-the-wall spot with cozy seating and authentic flavors. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area and great value for your money. Parking in the plaza can be questionable, but overall, it was a wonderful experience.

Don’t let the small space fool you! Tucked back in this strip mall is a little taqueria serving amazing tacos! I had the trompo and carne asada, both were amazing and the red and green sauces were very tasty as well. I like the green sauces best, it had more kick to it. Can’t wait to come back to try some of their other dishes

I found this Mexican spot through TikTok and decided to drive 2.5 hours to try it with my sisters. Pros: best prices in the area, good portions, clean, fast service, accept all forms of payment, ample parking, various selections, salsa is spicy, and the staff was super kind and attentive. Tacos de trompo - Rate 6.5/10 The pork was a bit too salty. I had to drown mine in lime to balance it out. Tortillas tasted like the reheated packaged kind, definitely not handmade. The limes were also dry/old, barely yielded any juice. Horchata - Rate 4/10 Unfortunately, this was a big miss for all three of us. ☹️ It had a bad aftertaste—almost like protein powder or artificial packaging. One of my sisters asked to exchange it for the agua de jamaica (hibiscus water), but that ended up being overly sugary so she diluted it with water. I'm not picky, but the horchata was very disappointing. We did not even drink 1/4 of the horchata, it was hard to ignore the aftertaste. Tortas: My sisters tried the steak and chicken tortas and had no complaints. They enjoyed them. *Disclaimer: I may be a harsh critic, but I'll be honest. My family is from Mexico and I grew up in the restaurant business in which we made everything from scratch. Additionally, my mom cooks homemade Mexican food daily so my standards are probably higher than most. I left a 30% tip because the waitress and the cashier were so kind. This review is to inform people who were expecting the homemade taste like I was*

If you’re from Monterrey, this spot will feel like home.

These were some of the best tacos ove had in Charlotte. I think this place would be easy to overlook, but the quality if the food was incredible and very affordable. The portions of meat on each taco were way more generous than most tacos places around the city. The Agua frescas were absolutely delicious. The salsa was nice and spicy, and the service was very fast. This place is well worth the trip.

Excited to try a new tacos joint in Charlote, we landed in this restaurant. We asked for water and the waitress brought us two bottles (first charge). Then we asked if they serve chips and salsa like most of mexican restaurants do and, she said sure. What we got were store- bought round Tostitos bite size chips in a tiny bowl. No salsa or enything (second charge). Tripita and lengua tacos were not freshly made. My wife ordered tacos al pastor and she got one small shaved piece of meat swimming by itself in a corn tortilla. Honestly, not worth the time and money spent here. Tacos el Nevado is 1000% better and they don't charge you for your breathing in there.

Google
I hadn't visited in ages, so first of all, I'm glad to say the food is still just as delicious as I remember (but whew, I did not remember the salsa on the Tlaquepaque tacos being quite so spicy - and I *love* spicy). They were incredibly busy during our visit, so we wound up having to wait about thirty minutes between finishing our meals and receiving our check (after asking for it). Not the end of the world, but just be sure to budget a little extra time for your meal.

Google
The best tacos I have ever in the US! My family is from Monterrey and I can say this place nailed it! Tacos de trompo that taste just like the ones back in Monterrey. The owner was very kind and attentive. Service was great! Small place but def exceeded expectations.

Yelp
Awesome, authentic taco place with some excellent menu choices on my first trip. I tried the carne asada tacos - they come three to a plate with fixings (onions, cilantro, lime) on the side. Meat is well-prepared and seasoned properly and they provide a generous portion. Horchata is well-prepared with a kiss of cinnamon. Service is exceptional with an appropriate number of wait staff who are very attentive and ensure you have everything you need. Inside is modest but based on the traffic that comes in and out it is clear this place has developed a loyal following. Would highly recommend. Will be back.
google avatar

Adrian K.

Yelp
Green salsa is spicy but very flavorful and yummy. I think the asada lacked juiciness and flavor, but the portions were good. Service was also good.

Yelp
This place was one of my favorites. I believe it has closed, as everything I would come around it was closed. During the week and weekend. So I suggest calling before driving up but if you are close and around and wanna risk their tacos are authentic and the best of Chatlotte in my opinion until proven wrong. Every flavor is so good. They have bottle coke and my daughter loves their horchata and Mexican burger. I always get tacos. We have tried their potatoes with meat which was very good. Service is mostly in Spanish but most understand enough English. Ambience is feels like I am a little bit in Mexico.

Yelp
Family friendly. People friendly. The staff here is top tier and the food is proof of it. They have patience are extremely efficient. And the food makes you want more. Its a bit far out the city but worth the drive if you want real tacos. This i s the place where you get them. Nowhere else would have such dedication towards your expierience with tacos. You order by the single, but i gurantee you're going to want more than just one. I had 6 and flavor alone i wanted more. If i could have three wishes two would be used on more tacos and one would be for an extra hand to help me eat them. Don't let the area fool you if you like tacos this is the only place to stop at.

Yelp
Tacos tasted fantastic, especially the lengua (tongue) and the trompo (pork with pineapple and onions). The waitstaff was friendly and attentive; it was a comfortable atmosphere with plush chairs and a clean table. Prices are decent. You can add cilantro, raw onion, and lime at the table along with spicy sauces. These are the primary means of further seasoning the dishes so be aware of that if cilantro and lime are not your thing.

Norma R.

Yelp
Came here after watching a review posted on TikTok. We had tacos (asada, chicharron, lengua, barbacoa, trompo) and they were ALL bomb and the meat was not greasy; we couldn't decide on a favorite. Everyone working there was super nice and attentive :) 10/10 would eat here again.
google avatar

Heidi Y.

Yelp
It was authentic Mexican steak tacos. It was just the meat but nothing else so I added guacamole. Delicious. Service was polite and responsive.
google avatar

Yelp
This taco spot is one you should definitely try in Charlotte. I got a bunch of tacos: Trompo, Chicharrón, Alambre, and Tlaqupaque. The Trompo (Al Pastor) was definitely my favorite. I liked it so much that I'd probably just get a whole bunch of them next time. It's a popular spot, but we managed to get a table for 4 at lunch on a weekend without waiting.
google avatar

Yelp
Tacos El Regio is legit. Specialty of the house are Trompo (Al Pastor) tacos. Although they have different tacos, quesadillas, Mexican burgers. I have only had tacos and they were outstanding. I have met the Owner Don Chuy and he is very interested in providing a quality product to his customers. Focusing on quality ingredients to give the absolute best flavor. He opens Thursday thru Sunday, he wants his employees, some of which are his own family to focus on not just work but their own families. What a refreshing thought! Visit Tacos El Regio, and you won't be disappointed.

Daniel R.

Yelp
The atmosphere is nice, good music, and friendly staff . The food is amazing and not bad prices.

Yelp
I love tacos el regio they have my heart if I could marry a restaurant it'll be tacos el regio best tacos ever

Yelp
Food is delicious. Their food is as close as it can be from Monterrey. The Papa Asada (Steak Potato) is so good. Tacos of course are the best specially Tacos de trompo. The place is always packed so you need to be prepared to wait a couple minutes (be patient) it is worth the wait.
google avatar

Yesi B.

Yelp
The food is actually really disgusting to the tacos are not even real tortillas. They are bags tortillas and not the best.
google avatar

Ana K.

Yelp
Yummy tacos ! They give you a hefty amount of meat on each taco which is awesome . Love the grilled pineapple & onions . Chicharrón is my favorite!
google avatar

Yelp
I knew you wanted to go here. I Regio mind. It's a really delicious authentic Mexican Taqueria in the nether regions of Charlotte (ahem) serving Monterey-style food. Trompo tacos are the regional specialty, sort of like Pastor meat but better. Service was absolutely wonderful as well and perhaps best of all I was able to sing some awesome Spanish-language songs in karaoke after my dinner which kind of gave me indigestion but it was worth it. Now speaking of things that give me indigestion, but are worth it, your mother is calling me again.

Yelp
If you want authentic Mexican Tacos please come to this spot. It's 100% worth the drive if you don't live in the area. My parents and I tried this place for an early Saturday dinner. We were greeted as soon as we stepped in, and were given a paper menu. I appreciated that the menu had a ton of pictures so you can get a visual idea of what you'd like to eat. I had 5 tacos that included carne asada, tripe and el pastor. The tortillas are fresh and meat was very flavorful. I also had a pineapple water and tasted the guava water. Everything was delish and fresh. Erica did an excellent job of taking care of us. COVID PRECAUTIONS: Dine in /Take out is available, hours are unique, restaurant is not open Monday -Wednesday so just beware before you plan on going. Team was wearing hair nets and masks. Some items were pre portioned for sanitary purposes.
google avatar

Melissa G.

Yelp
Ordered 5 tacos since they want to put on the same basket. They skipped the meat because why not. This has happened multiple times won't go back.

Yelp
Found this place via Yelp....all the reviews are right!! Tacos de trompo are the BOMB.com. The spread they give you to put on your taco is a great addition. I only used the onions, pico de gallo, cilantro and lime. We did expect warm empanadas, but they still were good. We were greeted with a smile and the service was impeccable. We definitely will come back and introduce this place to others for sure!!

Yelp
This review is only based on my take out experience. I always heard about this place nothing but good things. It's located in the back of a small shopping center with big holes in the ground. (be careful especially during the night) Owners and employees are more than kind, always welcomed me with a smile. Even when they are fully crowd. Check out days and hours. Last Friday the owner was checking by herself every detail in the take out orders. I always go with the same (not because other items from the menu are not worth but because I can't resist the "trompo". Omg... Best tacos in town! Hands down to Tacos "El Regio". The alambre and other specialties are very good as well but the taste of the sauteed/grilled onions, pineapple, and the meat? Speechless! They all come with fresh cilantro, lime & onions on the side with sauces. Truly a hidden gem. And remember " don't judge a book by its cover".
google avatar

Gloria M.

Yelp
I was introduced to this place a few months ago, the place is situated not in a very good area there's questionable surroundings and holes all over the parking area but if you are really into authentic Mexican tacos this is the place. I only come for the tacos de trompo, I haven't ordered anything else from the menu. Also if you ever want to order tacos to go I wouldn't recommended they don't have the proper packaging to keep tacos warm only the styrofoam box. This place is family friendly and there is plenty of seating area.
google avatar

Miguel H.

Yelp
Staff is friendly and helpful. All employees wore masks the entire time and thoroughly cleaned the tables and seats after a party would leave. I highly recommend trying the Trompo Tacos. They were excellent and perfectly cooked.

Elisa M.

Yelp
A1 service ! Food is 10/10, family friendly, I recommend the "Tacos de Trompo". Definitely top on my favorite tacos spot list.
google avatar

Lestina C.

Yelp
I am a California native. I absolutely love Mexican food. This place has really good, Authentic food. Hate to say it but my family and I have gone back at least 5 times hoping for service redemption. The service is horrible. The attitude made us feel like we didn't belong in there trying the food. The glares and looks up and down made uncomfortable. We then got to go food. Just as bad. Food great, prices are high everywhere honestly. Sad to say. We will never eat there again. The amount on money you pay for food, and for it to be complimented with disrespect is too much. Do better!

Yelp
I love checking out new, international spots all over town. It makes me feel like I'm traveling but without the cost of airfare! Lunch at Tacos El Regio transported me to Mexico with their authentic al pastor (although they call it de trompo -- a regional description from its resemblance to a kid's spinning top toy) and fresh toppings. We sampled almost all of their tacos... and then ordered seconds. At $1.50 a taco, why not try them all?!? My favorites were the trompo and chorizo. The tacos came with the most amazing side of roasted onions and pineapples. As if that wasn't enough, they also bring you a giant bowl of fresh chopped cilantro and onions, limes, sliced radishes and two salsas -- red and green -- both delish. A few tips about this place... If you don't speak any Spanish, be ready to point to the menu to indicate what you want. It might not be a bad idea to look up a few of the words on their menu before hand to be ready. I speak just enough Spanish to be dangerous in a place like this. ;) Also, be sure to order an "agua fresca." I recommend the pina (pineapple) but they also have mango and horchata (milk/cinnamon).

Tonya P.

Yelp
Tacos El Regio is nowhere near my neighborhood and I might pass ten restaurants to eat tacos, but I will forever get in my car and head their way. Super nice wait staff, serving up delicious food with all the salsas and fresh lime. Be extra careful the parking lot is second to Asian Corners Mall.
google avatar

Yelp
We had some company over and they wanted tripa tacos , yelp suggested this place. We're ordered a little bit of everything. My company and bf said these were the best tacos in Charlotte. I heard the steak quesadilla which to me tasted like a baleada. It was delicious. You can tell the meat was cooked on a flat top. The potatoes were pretty good as well. I have no complaints here. They load everything with flavor and meat.
google avatar

Cory W.

Yelp
I can keep this one short. Some of the best tacos in Charlotte. Parking is easy as it's in a shopping plaza. Ambiance is ok but you go here for the food. Get the Tacos de Trompo and thank me later. You'll be craving them again later so be prepared to go back. Definitely one of the favorite spots! The horchata is also delish, so grab one as well.
google avatar

Miguel L.

Yelp
Best tacos I've ever had. Went to this place 3 times in the past 3 weeks, always fresh tasting food, great flavors and friendly service. If you want authentic tacos, this is the spot.
google avatar

Gigi A.

Yelp
This is the worst place I've been to for Mexican food, cutting corners in ever way possible the food is so bad my tastebuds threaten to leave me if I ever returned! The price doesn't compensate the ketchup in my torta the lame water down horchata . Lol it left such a bad impression I still remember this bad experience a year later Careful with the artificial fries that nearly melted the styrofoam plate they came in!! Just ugh

Sarai G.

Yelp
Somos clientes desde hace 7 años y tienen la mejor comida de Charlotte! Excelente servicio al cliente, trato calido, respetuoso y ambiente familiar. 100% recomendado
google avatar

James A.

Yelp
Buddy mine recommended I stop by and was not disappointed. Tacos are AMAZING & Papas Asada is HUGE! I'm coming back weekly!
google avatar

Hilary B.

Yelp
Barbara is so good! Make sure to dine in and get all the limes and control. Ask for the specialty fruit drinks! No booze here tho
google avatar

Shelly O.

Yelp
I've been here twice now. It's a new found place near my house. I really like the tacos de trompo. They serve it with grilled onions and pineapple. I also like the tacos de asada. The chicharron tacos were good but the tortilla kept falling apart. They give you all the sides (cilantro, onions, pico de gallo, radishes, and cilantro) communal style in little bowls to share. The thought going through my mind is if the sides are all fresh or if they're being re-used. I wish they would just give you the sides individually so it's more fresh and not as wasteful. They also don't give you complimentary chips and salsa. I still think this is one of the best Mexican places in the area and will continue to come here!
google avatar

Freddie G.

Yelp
Went in on a Saturday afternoon since I was craving some authentic tacos, and they didn't disappoint! The service was friendly and fast. I had tacos de asada and tacos de trompo. Both were great, but I definitely recommend the tacos de trompo, especially with all the extras added to them (cilantro, onion, lime, pineapple, and of course some salsa). If you still have some room for something sweet after your tacos, their empanadas are delicious too (cajeta and pineapple).
google avatar

Santosha T.

Yelp
Best tacos in Charlotte hands down, it comes with sides of grilled pineapple, grilled onions, raw onions, cilantro, limes, and sauces. I love there chorizo and el trompo tacos.
google avatar

Lucinda S.

Yelp
Great tacos! I love the tacos de trompo. Pineapple is so good! Also the accompaniments are delicious. Wonderful pico and salsas. The gringo is good too. Next time, going to try the torta!
google avatar

Christopher S.

Yelp
Been in Charlotte a little over a year now. I'm originally from San Antonio -- where there's a taco spot on literally every other corner. Tacos El Regio is by far the best taco spot I've been to in Charlotte (and I've been to a lot). Give this place a try.
google avatar

Mary M.

Yelp
Tacos are great! Excellent service & friendly staff. The prices are extremely reasonable! The menu is very simple so why not try a variety of items! They even let you sample anything! We enjoyed the Taco De Trompo (aka El Pastor) great flavor! Also, the de Alambre (steak, bacon & chorizo (sausage)) - you can't go wrong! Everything is freshly made - I know we will return hidden gem right between E WT Harris & Lawyers road.
google avatar

Alora M.

Yelp
Service is great, food was yummy! No alcohol and you have to get your drink in a can or a bottle. I really enjoyed the fajitas de Pollo and the tacos de Alambre. The prices here are super cheap if you're looking just for a variety of tacos.
google avatar

Kathy L.

Yelp
Excellent hidden gem. Very small menu but the food is amazing and the service is excellent.
google avatar

Nancy P.

Yelp
Wonderful tacos and lovely people. This is my new favorite spot. My favorite was the tripe but all tacos were great. Next time our president comes to NC for one of his MAGA rallies he should swing by here. He may then understand the glory of having different cultures blending into a homogeneous United States. That's what make America great and always has.

Xochil S.

Yelp
Their tacos are mediocre at best I have seen better tacos come out of small Mom and Pop food trucks.
google avatar

Bernabe Y.

Yelp
Great and authentic nortern mexican taqueria. Is the same type of tacos you will find at Monterrey city, where I spend almost 6 years during college. The menu is great, except ofr one little detail I will explain belos. Try the trompo if you eat pork. One of my favorites are the gringas, piratas and campechanas. Havent tried the tortas yet, so cant speak about them. Servoce is pretty great, and they speak spanish. There is a karaoke on the back, havent tried it yet. Looks like fun. I lime the rotarion of their "aguas frescas", they taste great and always on par with the season. Already tried pineapple, tamarind, mango and horchata. Only reason I dont give a 5 star, I just realize today they are not very vegam friendly. If I take one of my vegan friends there they might end up eating a papa al horno, with pretty much nothing on them.
google avatar

Azucena R.

Yelp
Legit authentic Mexican place. I love the Pirata de Asada and tacos de trompo. The papa asada is good too but they need to add more condiments in my opinion. My favorite place in Charlotte always a treat.
google avatar

Gladys Z.

Yelp
Best tacos de trompo in charlotte. I've tried many other places and this is my favorite place so far. They are not cheap with the toppings such as the cilantro and the onion unlike other places I've been. They also give you a small side of pineapple and grilled onions. The waitresses and the cashier which I think is the owner are always nice and attentive.
google avatar

LongLive R.

Yelp
The torta de trompo and the agita de piña is the best !!!! There salsa verde is the best one yet

Og T.

Yelp
New restaurant, very good for authentic Latino food . The tacos are made with hand made tortillas if you are looking for authentic Latin food , this is the place to check out

Jvy C.

Yelp
Best tacos in charlotte you missing out if you don't go here overall 10/10 !!!!!!!!!!!
google avatar

Marcel N.

Yelp
Hands down THE best tacos in all of Charlotte. This family-owned restaurant is small and cramped, but hugely popular because of the excellent and totally authentic food. Great service and true Monterrey-style comida norteña. Can't wait to go back!!!
