Google
Local, authentic food! I always enjoy trying something different and my other hand always gets the tacos el pastor. I love the crunchy chips and red salsa, I can make a meal out of those alone. YUMMY!

Google
Discovered this place when I lived in Topeka for ayear. I hate myself for it taking ten years to come back - the food is SOOOO good! A wonderful find on 6th steeped in family tradition. Been here 22years and has remained family owned. Taking my wife back this weekend for sure

Google
The tacos here are good. You should get them. They do cheap taco days.

Michelle Bryan

Google
Food was delicious! This is more a fast casual experience than a sit down restaurant. Most folks were getting their food to go. The interior was pretty basic and food was served on disposable plates, but that food was really good. I'd certainly go there again.

Google
How, in my 31 years of life, have I not had Tacos El Sol??? This place is amazing! Like, they serve real authentic tacos with actual chunks of meat that are not ground; they put cilantro and onions on top, not lettuce and cheese. And the flavor, man, the flavor, was on point! Just enough spicy kick that makes it flavorful but not too spicy to make it unenjoyable. They also have beef tongue and al pastor, which I feel should be a staple at real authentic Mexican restaurants. The beef tongue and al pastor were amazing! Especially the al pastor! If you're like me and haven't eaten here yet, you should!!!!

Google
Authentic food and friendly people. The real thing, you’re buying great food in a neighborhood place. Chips and salsa are part of the meal not an add on.

Google
Best Mexican restaurant I've ever been to outside of Mexico. The Flan is the best! Better than Mexico in my opinion. And the salsa rojo is amazing!! I will absolutely be coming back and recommending this place to anyone who is near Topeka! 10/10.

Aaron Grubb

Google
Wonderful, flavorful, pan-fried tacos! I've been eating here for years. It never changes in flavor and quality

Yelp
Have eaten here many times in the past. Always liked it. One visit since I have been back tells me it is still a great place to eat.

Yelp
The food is absolutely amazing‼ I regret not coming here more often. I had a Barbacoa taco and 2 Tamales. I always get the jalapeno/Tomatillo salsa. Just the best. The staff is always friendly. It's is definitely a small mom-and-pop restaurant.

Yelp
Very neat little place. Service at the counter was great. Tried a few different things. 1) GB enchilada was good but had an odd cinnamon taste-didn't care for that. 2) GB hard taco was really good with tons of flavor. 3) GB burrito was large and very good. 4) chicken tamale was sold-little bland. 5) beef street taco was very good and likely my favorite. Chips and salsa and queso were also good.

Yelp
This is about authentic as you can get. I don't do fast food Mexican anymore. I go here. Quiet atmosphere and great food.

Yelp
No exaggeration: this is the most flavorful Mexican food I've had in Topeka. The chicken in my flautas had such a distinct & well-seasoned flavor, plus the salsa and guacamole were incredibly fresh. It's the refried beans tho that make it clear all the food is made by someone with a superior sense of taste. At so many restaurants, the beans are just dull (and sometimes greasy) mash that you have to doctor with salsa, but these beans have a hint of smokiness and rich vegetable layers to the broth. You can add some of the super fresh salsa to them, but it's not necessary.

David H.

Yelp
Great food.. Number 16 or chicken burritos are my kids favorites besides all the tacos and the white queso.

Yelp
Great find, friendly staff. Had the lengua and barbacoa tacos delicious. I will go back for those again. House made salsa....

Yelp
I am from Topeka and I have never experienced such crunchy goodness I had 2 ground beef tacos with the most delicious cheese sauce that enhanced the flavor. Love the homemade shells and Absolutely loved their Crunchy Crispness. Yum Yum Yum Chips & Cheese sauce also delicious Lost a star because the Cheese sauce could be a little thicker to coat the chips better.

Libby G.

Yelp
Best refried beans I've ever had! Food was good and very quick service. Multiple flavors of Jarritos plus Mexican Coca-Cola.

Yelp
I have been eating at Tacos El Sol since I was a child. In this visit, I ordered the Flautas with rice & beans along with my quest & chips as an appetizer. I loved every bite so much that I made myself full & had to get a to-go box. In terms of condition, my table was clean & ready for me. Floor was clean along with seats. Definitely try this Mexican restaurant!! Food is always hot, authentic, & never misses! The staff is friendly, bilingual, & VERY fast! :) I will always support local businesses especially Tacos El Sol.

Yelp
One of our favorites for the salsa and chicken tacos. They are small but great food and always fresh.

Yelp
I discovered Tacos El Sol while working in downtown Topeka, and I still make a point to go back when I can, because the food is amazing as is the customer service. For those unfamiliar with the area, I would not recommend visiting in the evening due to the seedy location, however, I popping in for tacos over the lunch hour is a must. Get there as close to 11:00 am as you can because the place gets packed and there is very little seating available. Now let's talk about the tacos. These are AUTHENTIC Mexican tacos on and they are amazing. My favorites include the carne asada taco, al pastor taco, and the chicken taco; the chicken taco comes fried, while the rest are simply placed on a corn tortilla with a few additional toppings. Every order is accompanied by an order of chips and salsa which are excellent. Lastly, if you are a fan of guacamole -- you MUST try it from El Sol; it is always fresh and goes great with the chips and the tacos!

Yelp
This is the most classic Latin cuisine I have found up here. I grew up in Phoenix and just relocated to Lawrence six months ago. So I have a pretty good vantage point for this cuisine. The first thing you need to know: Everything is cheap-- which is exactly as it ought to be. Street food with street food prices. They have a ton of options as well which is another great staple of places like this-- something for everyone. The decor is quirky but that's pretty typical too. The chips were hecking good-- they tasted homemade like the chips at similar joints in Phoenix. Not sure if that's the case. I will say the salsa was essentially fresh tomato sauce. I'm sure that's because of where we are in the country. We added a ton of Choulula and it was fine. The tacos were definitely the stars of the show! I was raving about these for days. I used to hate going to Topeka (because who likes Topeka) but now I'm excited to go back just to have these tacos again!! They are authentic and delicious and made me feel right at home. The tortilla, honestly, was the best part because it was SO GOOD.

Yelp
This has been my favorite Mexican place for 6 years, they are always good. The horchata is actually real. One of my top 5 in Topeka for sure.

Richard M.

Yelp
Damn Good Food !!! Beef and chicken enchiladas are very good. Just a good place to eat Mexican food,

Julia R.

Yelp
Horrible service. The cashiers were extremely rude and unhelpful. I went there for the first (and last time), I was treated so poorly when asking for assistance and a recommendation, not having been there before, I turned around and left and will never go back.
google avatar

Yelp
I'm a vegan! So sorry, but I called ahead to find out if they had anything for vegans, they really don't know. Too bad :/ they said the vegetable burrito might be, but they didn't know what a vegan was when I asked.
google avatar

Ilene H.

Yelp
I really enjoyed this little place. I believe the prices are incredibly reasonable and the food is great. As someone who has lived in Mexico I can tell you this is very authentic and one of the better places to go for Mexican food in Topeka. Great service and friendly staff.
google avatar

Yelp
"The best taco in town served on a paper plate." It's inexpensive and tasty. There are apparently, many things they serve not on the menu. It's not my favorite Mexican gig for food, but the place is clean, the staff is friendly and the food is reasonably priced - enough to make me go back for more.
google avatar

Vicki T.

Yelp
Love this place. Great taste. Plus they don't drown everything in red sauce. Have to make a bit of effort to keep it top of mind since its tucked in a neighborhood on the far side of town from me but always worth the trip
google avatar

Summer F.

Yelp
The most authentic Mexican food you will find in Topeka. I've been here numerous times, and everything I've had from here was good, and I don't think you can go wrong ordering almost anything off of the menu. The prices are extremely reasonable as well. That being said...the location is scary as hell. Definitely a place to visit during the day for lunch and not for dinner.
google avatar

Yelp
If you are looking for a nice, quiet, upscale Mexican place.... This ain't your place. This is just some awesome food, huge portions on paper plates in a house in the 'hood. Pan fried tacos are the BEST. To go here and not order the pan fried tacos is just a waste of a trip. The carne asada is also a worthy menu item. As is the tacos al pastor. The point is this - it's authentic mexican. Not that tex-mex, mexican tv dinner garbage that so many Topeka restaurants are known for. This is the real deal with real red sauce. It's in the 'hood. Not gonna lie to you - can be a rough part of Topeka but only if you are a trouble maker. Just drive over there and order the food and be ready to make it one of your favorite places in town.

Armando C.

Yelp
Friendly staff. Wonderful food! I come back every time I can! There's a reason this place is made it through the test of time! Come check it out!

Yelp
I normally am not in East Topeka but was there for a meeting and when we breaked for lunch I ventured over to Tacos El Sol and was pleasantly surprised. When I walked in, there were people from all walks of life there for lunch, which is always a good sign when you see white collar, and blue collar folks eating at the same place. The staff were very quick and trying to hustle through the lunch crowd as best they could. For 7 bucks though, I got a steak and potato burrito, a side of rice and a drink. It was freaking delicious! I can't wait for the day when I venture again and sample the rest of their menu. Yeah, its not refined, and it may be closer to Tex-Mex than mexican food, but its still pretty good for my dollar.

Yelp
Shockingly one of the best taco places I've ever been to right in Topeka! Highly recommend the carne asada tacos. Pico de Gallo with the chips was tasty as well. This place makes me miss living in Topeka.
google avatar

Tod S.

Yelp
Tacos barbacoa and carne Assad burrito were good but not anything special. I will come back to try more so I guess they did something right.
google avatar

Anthony C.

Yelp
Food was great and the people where really nice. We where surprised by how fast the service was. The fountain juices are good if your not sure they will let you taste them so you don't feel committed if you don't like. The portions are quite filling, and watch out for the green hot sauce. That stuff is hot! I'm coming back for sure to try other things on the menu.

Yelp
Visiting from Chicago. This place was recommended by a local coworker. Great spot for authentic Mexican food. Clean, friendly helpful staff, affordable and quick service. What is missing other than you and your appetite?
google avatar

Dominic L.

Yelp
I have been taking my family and coworkers to Tacos El Sol for years. I enjoy the food and customer service is usually pleasant. This is the last time I visit. I was double charged once for my meal total and a second time for my meal total PLUS tip. I tried rectifying by calling Tacos El Sol and never received a call back or phone kept ringing. I Aldo tried reaching out through Facebook and never received a message back. A business that doesn't take care of its customer in their own error doesn't deserve my business. Be sure to check your bank or credit accounts if paying with debit or credit card!

Yelp
Great authentic Mexican fare in East Topeka. If you have time to escape downtown for lunch, it won't take you long to cruise down 6th Avenue to get to Taco El Sol. Very afforable, very good!
google avatar

Sharon F.

Yelp
Awesome hole in the wall! Totally authentic! I got the chicken burrito and my daughter got the chicken quesadilla. You have to get the chips and queso! Want to try the tacos!

Santippica K.

Yelp
This is my FAVORITE mexican restaurant. I love the home made chips, and the queso is the best in town!!! Their chicken tacos amazing! Every time I go, the food tastes as great as the time before.

Yelp
Why does everybody love this place?! Pardon me, I do not mean to offend, however People seem to love a "cult classic", a "dive", a "hidden gem"...so I feel like based on that alone, this place gets "cred". However, perhaps it is me who has poor taste in mexican food, or a regional preference at least. Being from Chicago and having spent large portions of my life in Seattle, San Diego and Houston I have been exposed to a wide variety of regional mexican foods. When I first came to Topeka for work I asked around to find the best mexican food in town, everybody pointed me here! On my first visit I played it safe with a bean burrito. On my subsequent visits, which were for informal work meetings or suggested by friends, I have tried lingua tacos and alpastor. It was all overly fried tasting and super greasy. The refried beans strangely tasted like they had been fried with donuts in the same grease. The lingua, (which in other places ive been, was light, tender and flavorful) was thick, dripping with grease, it literally ran down my hand, and had little defining flavor what-so-ever... I mean, I could tell it was a beef product, but thats about it. This place, however, does deserve a star because they have BOTH cans of diet coke (for $0.50 i think?) AND diet coke in the fountain...not to mention styrofoam cups (I refuse to drink fountain pop unless its in styrofoam)!

Yelp
Huge burritos and very tasty salsa. The tortilla chips are done on site, not from a bag.
google avatar

Dezeree H.

Yelp
Good food, friendly staff, quick service. The pork tacos were very good and so was the cheese dip for the chips.
google avatar

Leichardti F.

Yelp
Love this place! It's pretty authentic, bad area but hey, come for the food. Get the steak burrito and ask for the green sauce and lots of limes. Squeeze lime, add some green sauce and dash some tapatio with every bite. Awesomeness! Enchilada and tacos are good too!

Jared C.

Yelp
Great prices and great quality of food! I do recommend this place to anyone who is looking for good Mexican food in the Topeka area. I really enjoyed this restaurant and I will definitely be back!
google avatar

Yelp
Great food. Real Mexican not a taco bell. And they have Horchata!!!! my favorite drink. Only place I have found it in Topeka.
google avatar

J M.

Yelp
Now this is authentic!! Amazing birria! Only place I've found in Topeka that carries it.
google avatar

Becky K.

Yelp
My husband & I have been eating here since they opened. We are weekly customers. The service here is awesome, the girls behind the counter have our favorites memorized, and the food is delicious!!! Nothing exotic or fancy, just good plain mexican fare!

Jesus R.

Yelp
Love going there the workers are nice and work quickly food is delicious good prices true Mexican food
google avatar

H C.

Yelp
Great tacos! Fresh cooked and flavorful. And cheap to boot.

Jen T.

Yelp
As a taco connoisseur, I was not pleased. The carne asada tacos were not authentic--almost a roast beef meat. The rest of the food was more like an express Taco Bell. Not impressed
google avatar

Troy K.

Yelp
Authentic Mexican food. They have a varied menu. They are in a bad part of town, but I've never had any problems visiting. Parking can be quite scarce during lunchtime. Stand in line to order, pay, and get your drinks before sitting down. The girls that rang up your order will then bring out your food on paper plates or baskets lined with parchment paper, and plastic utensils. Chips and salsa comes with every meal. The place is a little worn down, but clean. I've had the tacos, burritos, tostados, taco salads, taquitos, and they've all been good. I recommend the carne asada soft taco with lime or the steak and potato burrito. You have to ask for 'green' sauce. It has a taste all its own. Go sparingly with the green sauce at first. It does compliment their salsa and is not bad when the two are mixed together with additional lime juice. I would give the food 4-5 stars. The location, paper plates, and lack of table service, knock it down a couple of stars.

Hannah K.

Yelp
AMAZING FOOD!!!!!!!!!!! LOve the giant burritos and the salsa is sooo good
