Tacos Mi Ranchito El Fenix

"Tacos Mi Ranchito El Fenix is a streetside kiosk done up in white and red tile. This perch offers a handful of counter seats, as well as two tables off to the side. The counter surrounds the prep area where one corner is devoted to the frying of the fish fillets for the signature taco here, the taco pescado. This crispy, delicious treat is served unadorned and invites dressing up from the various garnishes." - Michelin Inspector

Google
Delicious fish and shrimp tacos! Loved it. Lots of toppings, more traditional than others we visited. Spicy salsas!! Everyone was very nice, though it helps to speak Spanish :) community table. The clean bathroom was a plus.

Google
Fish tacos not good no more. I was disappointed/surprised when I was served my fish taco, it was like a fake piece of fish, like a imitation piece covered with lots of batter. It was not enjoyable at all and hard to chew. I did not eat it after tasting that first bite, I threw it away and paid and left. I think they serve their imitation fish to the tourists. It had a smaller piece of batter to make it look big. ...it was just Fried batter. Mexicans get the real thing, not the tourists. Avoid this place. I went to Taco's Don Zefe. This has real fish tacos. And more. Sorry ladies, but the truth hurts your reputation. Stop treating tourists by serving us cheap imitation fish. Stop adding so much batter. YUK! Bad experience and you will do nada to improve it. So I'm telling everyone.

Google
This is the Michelin star one of the kind famous Baja fish taco stand. It's an open-air eatery where you see customers come and go to order the famous fish tacos. I highly recommended.

Google
Great atmosphere and the tacos were very good. They also had American snacks.

Google
Tasty tacos! Self service toppings. Seating available. Credit cards accepted with 100 pesos minimum; otherwise, cash only. Tacos are around 30-50 pesos each.

Sophia M. Carroll

Google
The fish tacos were extremely basic… no seating, no server available to sit us, we order one taco to taste it and was not pleased. We ate it standing.

Victor Gonzalez

Google
One of the best places I've had so far in Ensenada for Fish tacos 🌮, freaking delish the fish, shrimp tacos, and shrimp enchilado quesadilla... best part you get to garnish them yourself ❤️💯🤤

Nikki

Google
Excellent, affordable tacos! They come to you plain but provide a wide assortment of toppings to customize your taco.

Yelp
The tacos were delicious and perfectly fried. The options of salsas was for every taste... super hot to mild. Service was quick, but they took my half empty soda because you need to get up to order your tacos. I didn't complain. The tostada was a bit creamy for my taste. Worth standing up and eating if you cant find a place to sit. But that is very typical. Totally worth a try.

Yelp
Solid place for fish tacos in Ensenada. The fish was tasty and tacos were great! Food comes out quick and reasonably priced. I would recommend if you're in Ensenada, lots of street parking available!

Yelp
Tacos El Fenix is a MUST any time you're in Ensenada! Absolutely amazing fish tacos of all kinds. You won't be disappointed!!!

Yelp
Still dreaming about the tacos. Worth the trek outside the tourist areas. Only downside is limited seating.

Yelp
The fish tacos at Tacos Mi Ranchito El Fénix were the best I had in Enseneda (7/18/22). The shrimp tacos were good too, but fish was far superior. The batter on both was just perfect... light oil. Good, strong corn tortillas. The tacos are served plain. so you may fix them up to your liking at the counter where you pick up your order. They have cabbage, radishes, limes, salsas, and mayonnaise. They have their own women's and men's restrooms. Limited street parking, so you may have to walk a bit. Outdoor shaded patio was also available. Service was no non-sense, but friendly as well. They have all kinds of other seafood here... my neighbors to my right were gushing on about the oysters. ¡TACOS DE PESCADOS POR VIDA!
google avatar

Yelp
Not what I was expecting. Was hoping for some thing phenomenal but I was underwhelmed. Speaking strictly on the tacos themselves, it is a build your own fish taco type of deal. You get the fried fish on a corn tortilla and you put the cabbage - salsa and whatever else on it that you want. I personally would prefer crispy fish tacos, but they weren't. The sauces and white sauce. All were good, the cabbage and salsa was fresh. The prices are good, how about $1.50 per taco. The ceviche tostada was not good. Did not like it at all. The big downside on this trip was that they forgot to make our order, I had to ask multiple times where the food was and finally I spoke in Spanish and they got a little embarrassed, I would recommend that I probably wouldn't go back

Yelp
An absolute must to try when in Ensenada! The ladies here are quick with your meal. Within seconds, you're stuffing your face with a fish taco. Don't forget about all the dressing on top you can choose from. There's this chipotle looking sauce there with peppers inside. BEWARE it is super spicy but delicious! We also went to a taco truck Taco Fénix nearby. This place has really good shrimp and their batter is much more flavorful. However, I am a huge fan of Fenix's fish. Both amazing. Definitely try both when you're there. Service is quick. The sauces and toppings you put on after are all lined up at the bar. I recommend red onion, pico, crema, chipotle sauce and some hot sauce. Outdoor restaurant with local vibes. A MUST!

Yelp
Good fish tacos but BOY, we're they spicy. Not sure where the spice came from but it was overwhelming. I admit, I can't handle a lot of spice but even people I was with were feeling the heat. It overpowered the taste. These didn't satisfy fish taco craving, we actually went to another place. Oh, also trued the ceviche, it was really good, with avocado! (No spice)

Yelp
I'm not sure I want to post this as I think I should gate-keep, but this place is everything Tacos el Fenix is only with the added benefit of not having to worry about finding parking and so much more room to eat, you can even sit here. The taste is exactly the same if not better, and their menu options are more. I've been going to the other one my whole life, but I'm switching to this one.

Gina M.

Yelp
It's okay not bad. Good service. Been here like 4 times. Nothing special though. Tried 4 different dishes. They do have a variety of plates.

Yelp
My spot for seafood tacos. THE AMBIANCE: Corner eatery. Open air. Bar seating on stools and table seating on the side. Street parking. THE FOOD: I like their tacos de camaron (shrimp) a little more than the fish tacos. Both are delicious. The seafood is fresh, the tortillas are good, and the breading is a family recipe. Now I want one!!! I always recommend this place to friends.

Yelp
Great place for fresh fish tacos when your down in Ensenada. Establishment is clean and well kept, all the condiments and veggies to prep your tacos are fresh and kept in clean containers. Service as well is great and staff is friendly and very tentative. I highly recommend this place.

Yelp
Very good tacos in Ensenada! Muy buen sabor; auténtico tacos de pescado Precios justos y rapidez para comer agusto

Yelp
When I recently visited Ensenada for my Boyfriend's birthday, he is a big fan of fish tacos. We tried several spots and this one was our favorite! The fish taco was seasoned perfectly along with all the sauces. We also tried the other three spots that are near this corner, again, this one was our favorite!

Yelp
God damnit, fish tacos are sooooo good, and if you like them wherever you normally go, you will undoubtedly be in heaven eating them at this place. Prices are very reasonable, and the ladies working here are always ready to make you more if you feel the need to scarf some more down. I love how easy it is to order food and relax with a drink in Mexico, and this place is a prime example of it, but with AMAZING fish tacos. It's always nice to have all of the toppings and sides right in front of you, and I remember the green sauce being super super spicy, but I couldn't get enough of it. Every topping went so well with it. I'll be back!

Yelp
They only do carnitas tacos. Simply, the best. Mixto is the carne mixed with what I assume is chicharron and buche fried up. Delicious.

Emerson D.

Yelp
One of my favorites in Ensenada. Fish/Shrimp is fried when you order for the best quality. Better than the other Fenix.

Yelp
Stopped by on a Sunday morning for some Fish Tacos. Yelp had the nearby Tacos el Fenix taco cart rates higher but this location had far more locals eating so we made a detour. The cashier told us both locations were owned by the same person so we figured we made the right decision. This location had a better salsa set-up, more chairs & bar stools and bathrooms. Fried fish tacos were delicious. My cousin who is a self proclaimed Taco connoisseur, label these the best fish tacos he's ever eaten. I'd recommend this location over the higher rated taco cart a few blocks away.
google avatar

Aivi M.

Yelp
Not true, they were not open. We walked almost a mile to find closed before 10pm on a Friday
google avatar

Edward B.

Yelp
Really good tacos liked this stand better then the El Fenix cart,Had a better selection on salsas and and other dressings for your taco, but definitely best shrimp and fish tacos I've had.
google avatar

Mel D.

Yelp
Best fish and shrimp tacos. The first day we went to Tacos Fenix just a few blocks away. We were addicted but wanted to try their other location. This location is not a mobile stand, it's an actually standalone location with proper seating and counter. The tacos are the same, A+ in both locations. Enjoy and you are welcome for the recommendation :)

Yelp
They alright good enough to eat.! Hit it up you do the challenge. The price is good but the food is average. Nothing to call home about.!
google avatar

Yelp
Funny how I found this place. The taco shop I wanted to try was closed so the uber driver took me here. I ordered one shrimp and one fish taco and they were both so good!!!!!!! The batter was so light and crunchy. Be careful with one of the toppings because it's spicy AF! I almost fainted after my second taco and chugged a refreshing hibiscus drink in 10 second to cool my mouth down.
google avatar

Yelp
Best fish and shrimp tacos I have found in Ensenada MX. Arguably the best anywhere!!! Better than even the best local spots in LA (Taco Nazo, Tacos Baja Ensenada etc). Crispy fresh locally caught fish and inexpensive too. Throw on some salsa bandera and crema and you should be all good to go! Warning: one of the house salsas has quite the kick so plz sample before trying. Random location but completely worth the stop when passing through Ensenada.
google avatar

Yelp
My new favorite fish and shrimp tacos in Baja. Excellent flavor, and great prices. Doesn't get much better than this.
google avatar

Yelp
2 Thumbs up!!! Best tacos ever. Had the fish & shrimp. Nothing like an Ensenada style taco on our trip
google avatar

Michael C.

Yelp
I made the trip down to Ensenada for this very reason. I didn't eat all day and even worked out to build up the appetite for these fish tacos. They are amazing!! I love them. I'm sad that there isn't anything like this in LA. I've had Ricky's and it's great but believe me this is another level of delicious! Food Awesome mix it up get some fish and some shrimp. If you are starving you can eat as many as 6 but start with 1 each and see what you like. I like them both equally Service Super fast!! Your order is ready in seconds and the people are very sweet Location Parking is tough here but about a block down you can get a spot. Very clean and setup is great to serve several people. Price Posted a pic of prices, super cheap and you are getting so much for your money. I would twice as much for this back home. The tacos are less than $1 American... What a steal!!!! Extra Sauces are great spicy but that's how I like it!
google avatar

Yelp
Hello to all, been here a couple of time and have never had this experience, but this Friday around 430pm me and the wife stop by to get some of their fish and shrimp tacos, 1-place look dirty and lazy, noticed the trash on the floor, on the tables, on the counter and the salsa tubs look all messy and empty and what ever was left was all saggy. 2- I ask and always ask for my fish/shrimp tacos to be well done/crispy from any shop, the 1st taco was not crispy, I notice they were just laying on the drip rack ( not sure how long they have been sitting there) and also the tortilla was HALF ASS warm fell apart on my first bite,,on my 2nd taco I ask the lady to heat up my tortilla well done, and my shrimp to be done well also,,she did not give a shit,,,she gave me the same crap as the 1st taco, saggy and fell apart at my first bite too, so did not get any more, and don't think I will be going there any more or maybe not this late in the day,,,cause it suck big time, there was 4-5 customer and there was also 4-5 employee's and the place look like shit.

Yelp
Yes, the tacos are good, but I'm giving this only 3 stars because out of all the places I've been to in Ensenada, this was the only one where I sensed a rudeness toward Americans. Not only that, but the woman at the cash register shorted us change. I paid in pesos and was supposed to get 5 pesos back, but she only handed me the taco tickets and nothing else. I was distracted and didn't notice right away so I let it go. Same thing happened to my friend who paid in USD. So pay attention, and call them out on that crap because that's not okay. It's rude. This is the second time I've been here (I accidentally reviewed the cart instead of the stand last time), and I don't remember them being rude last time. I noticed it from the woman handing me the tacos too. The locals were kind though, so that helped. And the food is delicious which is why I'm still giving 3 stars. I've been to Ensenada many times, and have only experienced graciousness from the locals so this is not typical. How about an attitude adjustment, El Fenix? And stop shorting us change! ¡No está bien!
google avatar

Farzan A.

Yelp
Okay I have to admit that's 30 minutes walk in the middle of nowhere but so worth it the best fish and best shrimp tacos I ever had very friendly staff and they accept US dollars. So worth it.
google avatar

Yelp
I am not a fish taco noob! I ate at Ricky's in LA, where my sister lives. OK OK, I'm a total East Coast fish taco noob, but that was my previous highest fish taco mountain summit. NO MORE! Tacos Mi Ranchito El Fenix is the new Fish tacos King, in my book anyway. The fluffiness, the fluffiness, how could something fried make me remember it as golden, light, airy, fluffy. The stand itself is perfect on a well traveled corner, with comfortable and convenient bar stools and tables. The whole time I stood at the specialized circular fish and shrimp fryer watching the cooks golden touch, wagging my tongue and licking my chops like a bull dog at a butchershop. It would be pretty easy to stand there forever, if you ask me. What's that? Sun is dying? ONE MORE SHRIMP TACO, PLEASE.
google avatar

Kristie L.

Yelp
BEWARE of the green salsa! It is not your typical mild salsa verde... it will set your mouth on fire... but delicious in small doses! I tried both the fish and the shrimp tacos and loved both... but if I had to only choose one again on my next visit, I would choose the shrimp. This is a cute little storefront off the beaten path, but so worth the trip. Lots of toppings options like others have noted... cabbage, pico de gallo, limes, crema, red salsa, salsa verde... all sorts of delicious accompaniments. Not sure I'll be able to eat fish/shrimp tacos again in SD. I am craving this taco stand right now!
google avatar

Erica W.

Yelp
These are hands down the best fish (and shrimp) tacos in Ensenada, probably anywhere as far as I'm concerned and it's hard to believe they'll only set you back about $1!! Add some shredded cabbage, white sauce, fresh pico and you're good to go. We had lunch here two days in a row on a recent trip. I can't wait to go back. My mouth waters just thinking about them! Wash them down with an ice cold glass bottle of coke.
google avatar

Ignacio E.

Yelp
This place is bomb !! I was not expecting this place to be so good but we went upon reviews and it was the best choice we made, tacos were so good the green salsa was the best just way to spicy but it added so much flavor to the tacos if your ever in Ensenada this place is a must!!! **The tacos are fish tacos not regular meat tacos
google avatar

Rocio A.

Yelp
We found this place on yelp, ventured off the tourist and party areas on Ensenada, and found some traditional seafood tacos! There are about four ladies who run this place very efficiently. A couple of them serve, one runs the cash register, and another chops veggies and refills salsas, crema, and other toppings. They have a number of toppings from super spicy habanero quacamole, pico de gallo, cabbage, herbed onions, crema, and many more. We got fish and shrimp tacos. The tortillas and a majority of all tortillas in Mexico have the look and taste of home made tortillas, so delicious. The batter on the seafood was really good. There wasn't really a need to add much but it did make it better to pile on all the additions. Watch out for the guacamole, it has habaneros and it super spicy but tastes great. We tried the horchata and is so much different from what you find in the US, it's not too sweet taste great and is refreshing. We had a really good meal for $10. This place is extremely affordable and worth venturing out to. Later on we ran into a local who we told we are here and she was very excited and recommended this place. If locals love it you know it's a win!
google avatar

Ameet N.

Yelp
Tacos are yummy but THE SAUCES ARE SUPER I mean it. If you have low tolerance to spicy food then sample and add the spice. The tacos are delicious . I would rate the shrimp better than the fish but tacos are delicious. Everything is a dollar. Tip: keep a coke handy.
google avatar

Josh P.

Yelp
Simply the best fish tacos I've ever had were at Tacos Mi Ranchito El Fenix in Ensenada. Both the fish & shrimp were delicious with a crispy/tasty batter, fresh out of the fryer. All the toppings were great, but their salsas were the bomb. The green salsa was HOT and I'm not talking "white people hot." My wife was laughing at me because my lips turned a burning red from eating so much of that devilish concoction. IMO, it's worth the trip off the beaten path to find this Baja gem.
google avatar

Ivana D.

Yelp
I thought these were probably some of the best shrimp and fish taco I had. Shrimp being a little more plump and flavorful while the fish was more soft and flakey. You can top them however you like too. Shredded cabbage, tomatos, onions, cilantro, a white sauce and two type of chili sauces(Red and green). However, the place wasn't very clean with flies everywhere and the food in the open. They don't know that much english too but, we somehow managed.

Abbie J.

Yelp
The shrimp tacos were wonderful! And the employees were very friendly. No one speaks English and we don't speak Spanish but we made it work. $6 USD for an excellent lunch for two. A great deal!! Just a note - the Yelp directions led us to their food cart. If you don't want the cart, just keep going straight for another block or so and the restaurant is on your left.
google avatar

Chase C.

Yelp
Excellent fish and shrimp tacos. They were out of marlin when we went. Sauce is SPICY.
google avatar

Rene V.

Yelp
Tacos are good. Better when you go there when it's nice n slow. There are specials on Tuesdays. If you walk about two blocks west you'll find their smaller street cart. Tacos are better there but no where to sit.
google avatar

Karmen T.

Yelp
It seems like every review starts like this, but I have to say it as well: BEST FISH TACOS I'VE EVER HAD! Ok, now that is out of the way, let's begin. Fish taco, shrimp taco, get them both! I honestly could not decide which one I liked more. The seafood was so fresh and the batter was insanely delicious! It is deep fried right in front of you and comes out piping hot. I was a bit sad that they did not have any agua frescas so I resorted to soda. Other than that, I really have no complaints. This place gets packed easily, but don't worry, people will leave soon enough and you will have a place to sit. WARNING: the green salsa they have is SPICY. It left me and my friends in so much pain and soda did very little to help. We were a bit emotionally scarred afterwards, but the tacos were so good we could not stop eating. My bf even went for seconds! I miss this place so much... If you're ever in Mexico, definitely stop by!

Noël P.

Yelp
Excellent! Hot, tasty tacos made to order, pronto! At 25 pesos for a shrimp taco, and 20 pesos for fish, this can't be beat. So delicious!
google avatar

Jasmine W.

Yelp
The green salsa is awesomely spicy, with a flavor that's uniquely delicious! We were trying to figure out how to get from the cruise terminal to el fenix. Luckily, with our broken Spanish and a kind police officer, we were able to grab a shuttle driver to take us over, wait for us as we grabbed a few fish tacos, and drove us back for $6 ($2 there, $1 back per person). Totally worth it and a must-eat while hot since the batter is crispy with a little bit of chew, the fish is flaky and melt-in-your-mouth, and dang dude, the green salsa rocked my world. I also liked that it was a build-your-own since our to go box had the fish and seafood hunks in one corner (you have to try both but we actually preferred the seafood to the fish - !!) and the salsa, cabbage, white sauce, corn tortillas (thick, chewy, fresh) popped in too. Best part, we didn't get sick!
google avatar

Brenda P.

Yelp
Best freaking fish tacos hands down! Made fresh and super tasty. Definitely pour the orange sauce on your tacos! That's the topper of em all. The green salsa is soooooooooooo hot and yummy! Make sure you warn your taste buds of this spicy sauce!
google avatar

P G.

Yelp
This is rumored to be the birthplace of the battered fish taco! It's pretty amazing! Super tasty and the batter is crispy. Came here on a cruise from long beach and made the roughly one mile trek here to taste these fish tacos.
google avatar

Ziad E.

Yelp
I want to live here. Not just in Ensenada--I want to put up a tent on the sidewalk in front of this taco stand and eat fish and shrimp tacos from the moment I open my eyes each morning until the moment I pass out at night. So, yeah, I guess you could say I like this place.
google avatar

Janice L.

Yelp
Really. Fucking. Good. Shrimp and fish tacos. Add your own salsa and toppings. It's game. 3 cameron and 1 pescado was 69 pesos. oh and they're cheap
