Denver’s Best Tacos | Eater Denver

"The barbacoa’s like butter, the adobada’s got extra zip, the salsa bar’s loaded (try the orange one, a house specialty), and all in all the widespread adoration for this family-run Aurora fixture is more than justified. Not that the menu itself is out of the ordinary — nine options run from asada and carnitas to lengua and buche — but the execution is a cut above, both here and at two other locations in Lincoln Park and Littleton. Come on a weekend and add a bowl of menudo to the mix." - Ruth Tobias

Pretty spacious casual local taco shop with self serve sauce bar and soft drink dispenser machine. This is my favorite taco restaurant in Aurora for very affordable and delicious taco Tuesday. Fast food restaurant system to order at the register, they give you a card with number to hang up, and bring food to your table (so not really that much "service"). Green sauce is mild, orange sauce is medium, and brownish red sauce is pretty spicy. Strongly recommend the horchatta as must order drink!

Google
These are hands down the best tacos I have ever had! I can confidently say that Tacos Selene is the closest experience to authentic tacos you can find in Colorado. The place is really popular, and I can see why. The staff are sweet, patient, and incredibly quick. My food came out super fast and hot. The salsa bar adds to the overall experience. I haven’t found anywhere else that offers this unique future. I would recommend Tacos Selene to absolutely anyone!

Google
Every time I'm in Colorado I go to Taco Selena's at least once and usually first. Great food all around. I usually get a burrito or taco, haven't tried their Sopes (but probably should). I love the salsa bar that is included with the meal, the orange sauce was the best one.

Google
Love coming to this place for some authentic street tacos when I’m in the area. It’s got some really good asada tacos. The food is priced fairly in comparison to other places around that up charge a lot for similar food. The service is great! We got there on a Friday right before the lunch hour rush and glad we did because as soon as that time came it got really busy. I definitely recommend this place for tacos! Their salsas are really good as well, however if you’re not into spicy food I’d maybe start a little slow.

Google
Food was good, salsa bar had a good variety, entrance was confusing to find at first.

Google
This place has to be the best Mexican food I’ve ever had. I tried the tacos and the menudo soup and my god it was amazing! Definitely will be coming back whenever I’m here in Denver!

Google
We did a large order of Tacos for a Graduation party. The service was outstanding! They were so helpful when we got to the store to pick up Our order. They made sure we had everything we needed. The food was outstanding!! Our guests absolutely loved it. There was a great amount of food for the tacos and the price was soo good compared to other places. And we got the best Tacos. The food was outstanding. The staff was friendly. Thank you so much!

Google
Immediately upon entering I could tell it was gonna be good. I had the al pastor burrito and sope. I haven't had a sope in forever. It was all so good. I'm confident in saying this is one of the best Mexican spots in Denver. Can easily compete with Mexican food in San Diego.

Yelp
Never a miss here! The tacos are always fully loaded and the salsa options are all great! I'm stoked I live so close and can support this awesome small business!

Yelp
Don't judge a book by its cover, outside is a bit iffy, inside is the basic Mexican fast food like ambiance. So don't go there because you want to be bougie, go there for the food! It's authentic, it's delicious, it's how it is supposed to be. Salsas are fantastic and spicy. Service was quick and attentive. Prices are reasonable and comparable to a food truck I regularly visit back home. Restaurant had a lot of Mexican patrons, staff was Mexican, definitely go there if you want Mexican! Food and ingredients were top quality. Carne asada was juicy and flavorful, pastor with the pineapple was so good. Felt like I was in Mexico, something I didn't expect visiting Colorado from Arizona. Didn't have any but the Menudo they serve on the weekends looked epic. You won't be disappointed. Maybe get the Carnitas if you can't handle spice.
google avatar

Yelp
Muy yum! Our friends have raved about this place so we decided to give it a try. We were slightly hangry and it did not disappoint. Authentic, delicious, and quick. The place was packed with customers. We will be back.

Yelp
I don't know if I stumbled in the hood but everyone knows that hood food is usually the best and today was Taco Tuesday!! $2.00 a taco, which I had 5 tacos. 2 carne asada, 2 chicken, and 1 al pastor. They had a salsa bar and I like to mix up the hottest hot sauce with the mildest one to give flavor to the taco. I really enjoyed my tacos and the price, the atmosphere not so much. It felt like the restaurant had never seen a beautiful black woman before and it showed with the staring from staff and patrons. With that being said, we got our order to go and we both enjoyed our meal. Thank you for the good food not so much for the service. My rating is based on the food only because if it were the other part it would've been a negative star.

Yelp
Tacos are not the same they were awhile back ago. Quality has gone down and the flavor is definitely off. This is becoming more like sloppy or fast food Mexican. I love tacos and know real good ones one I see them. I'll be returning a lot less

Yelp
Arguably one of the best street tacos I've had so far here in Colorado. I had this for lunch on Friday at the suggestion of my coworker. I did not however, get to experience going into the restaurant myself to get the entire experience since I was overwhelmed with tasks after tasks at work. I got 4 carne asada tacos with extra cilantro and onion. I also got horchata to go with my food because the sweetness of the drink perfectly balanced out the salty spicy flavor of the tacos and salsa. I thoroughly enjoyed my meal. The meat were cooked nice and juicy. I loved that they had 4 different types of salsa for your tacos. 2 different types of salsa verde. One had more green Chile in it than the other. And 2 different kinds of salsa roja. The lighter red salsa is tangy and great flavor while the darker red one is spicy, a bit grainy, and not really much of a flavor to it just spice. The horchata had a perfect balance of sweetness. Not too bland or too sweet. The next time I'm craving some tacos I'm definitely coming here again.

Yelp
The food is always so gooooood at Taco Selene! We went for lunch and of course there was a line that was almost out the door. We wanted to make sure that we got a chance to eat and get back to work so we ordered our food to-go. I had the Asada, Adobada, Alpastor, and the Tripe that I didn't get a picture of because I ate before I remembered! The place is chill. They have a salsa station that has all the delicious taco fixins and plenty of lime!

Yelp
My aunt and I stopped by after our flight into Denver. We were starving and decided to get tacos. I'm so glad we decided to stop here. The food was amazing, service was friendly, music was very nice. Would go again
google avatar

Jailyn J.

Yelp
Truly a weak spot for me! The carne asada tacos are phenomenal and the carne asada quesadilla is soooo good! Whether you call or dine in, there is plenty of seating and it's a welcoming environment. Service is fast and friendly... and on most days you can expect a line, so call your order in! You can't go wrong here

Yelp
I love taco places like this. This is my first taco place I've been to since moving to Colorado in June. It was pretty busy though. Cute little place. Ordered the al pastor, my go to and favorite. I love the condiments table with several salsa options and pickled veggies. The portion was much bigger than I anticipated. I definitely didn't need the 4th taco. I'd love to try some other options. The al pastor was 8/10 for me. I'd definitely come back.

Yelp
I was visiting from Columbus - my friend just moved to Denver in May. My friend always talks about how good the Mexican food is so I was super excited to try it! Since she was picking me up from the airport, she recommended we go to Taco Selene. Since it's a bit away from her place, she said she always makes an effort to go here when she out near Aurora. They have soo many protein choices, they have everything you can think of from chicken to carnitas to tripe. We both ordered barbacoa (shredded beef) Tortas and we ordered pollo tacos. Both were delicious, both had such amazing flavor, you can tell they put so much love into the food. Cannot wait until I come back to Denver and this place will be on top of the list!

Yelp
Almost 10 years later, they still dominate the taco scene. My delicious tacos came out literally as I sat down! This time around I tackled 2 buche, 1 carnitas and one al pastor. Total with diet coke $13 Recommend as the lobby is much bigger and still continues to provide a salsa bar. Upgraded to 5 stars as the tortillas are somewhat doradito. Mmmm
google avatar

Yelp
Nestled in a little strip mall; Tacos Selene offers an authentic taste of Mexico in an unassuming setting. The homemade guacamole is a must-try, while the hand-pressed corn tortilla tacos are the real stars - whether you opt for the tender al pastor, carnitas or flavorful carne asada. But the standout dishes are the lengua and tripas tacos. With its casual vibe and commitment to Mexican flavors, Tacos Selene is a hidden gem that deserves a spot on every Aurora foodie's radar. ¡Buen provecho!
google avatar

Yelp
we were SO excited to try this spot, but our six Al Pastor tacos had No Pineapple on them!!
google avatar

Yelp
Top notch. You really can't beat taco Tuesday here. $2 tacos is such a good deal. Not to mention the fact that each taco is very yummy. It is definitely authentic. All of the tacos I got were good. Each one is basically meat, onion and cilantro. The sauce station is also good. Definitely would recommend this place for real Mexican food. A bit of a location but it was a lot nicer inside than I thought it would be.
google avatar

Sara A.

Yelp
What a delicious experience! Everything everyone is talking about and some. The best authentic and greatly priced tacos in Denver. Taco de Buche deliciousness. All types of sauces in the middle for your liking from spicy spicy to the Gringo not so spicy. Either way you like it it's the bomb. Two different locations and the service was great.

Chris W.

Yelp
Stopped by again while I was in town and again, fantastic food! I would definitely recommend if you want good street tacos and fixings.

Yelp
In ancient Greek mythology and religion, Selene (/slini/; Greek: pronounced [seln], meaning "Moon") is the goddess and the personification of the Moon. Denver Post did a March madness taco bracket in 2021 Selene came in second to Kike. I'll second what other yelpers are saying about this place, not the best but ok for the price. If your looking for a sit down experience, go to Los Dos Potrillos. They have menudo on the weekends and the salsa option here is great I like the Salsa Selene (orange) and the chunky Molcajete. The special Milanesa Torta also looks good. Lunch time line gets packed. They prefer cash payment because sometimes the credit card machine goes down. Or order online pickup @ https://www.clover.com/online-ordering/tacos-selene-aurora-aurora

Yelp
I wish I had pictures of the food we ordered, but I hope this review will suffice. This place is amazing!!! Everything we ordered was amazing, and the Asada tacos were the best I have ever eaten in my life! The horchata was delicious, and the rice and beans were so tasty. I wish I lived in town and could come here every week. I don't know when, but I will be back! Until then I will dream about their delicious food.
google avatar

Sean R.

Yelp
I've never had anything bad here. Every taco. Every torta. Everything is perfect every time. This is my go-to place for my Cinco party catering because the price defies the amazing quality. Get the tacos. Get a burrito. Definitely try a torta. But they have absolutely my favorite sopes on the planet. That maza rules and I will fight anyone that disagrees!
google avatar

Casey P.

Yelp
Small taco place in a strip mall, definite authentic feel, likely family run though I haven't verified this. This might be a case of having too high hopes based on yelp reviews, but I thought these tacos were just decent. Meats weren't bad, salsas weren't bad, tortilla a little boring. I like that there's a salsa bar. I'd rank the four tacos I got in this order: 1. Carne asada 2. Pastor 3. Adobada 4. Tripa The carne asada was the most noticeably flavorful meat imo, and if I went back, I'd skip the tacos and try a carne asada quesadilla instead.

Yelp
A nice unassuming restaurant at the end of a small strip mall spot with very good food. Tacos are the order of the day. Street taco style to be exact. Asada, onions, and cilantro on a fresh corn tortilla is my choice (more than one). The beef was tender with a nice spicy seasoned flavor. Other options are pork, shredded beef, chicken, and more. The burritos are also very good. Walk in, step up to the counter, and place your order with the friendly order-taker on the other side. A simple clean interior that gets the job done with both tables and booths and a small self-serve salsa bar.

Juli H.

Yelp
Yes yes yes 10/10 go. Great service and even better food. If u want some great tacos that are cheap then go. The $9 burrito is one of the best burritos we have had in a while.
google avatar

Sam M.

Yelp
Came here today while in a work trip. I try not to get Mexican food away from home because I live in California but I was dying for some tacos. I got tacos de asada, carnitas sand al pastor and a Al pastor sope. The tacos were good but they were a little skimpy on the meat. The habanero salsa is my favorite! The sopa was awesome and one of the best I have had! I would have given 4 stars and I would definitely go back but I knocked a star down because the tables were dirty and there was a homeless person sitting inside the restaurant and randomly laughed loud which made it a little uncomfortable. Granted it was raining and he was just getting out of the rain, but still.
google avatar

Cassandra R.

Yelp
The food here is delicious. It's been hard to find what I consider to be close to authentic street tacos being that I am from San Diego California where Mexican food is the absolute best. So I would say for pretty authentic street taco in Colorado. This is definitely the place to go. They had a ton of salsa options, but I wasn't a fan of any of them but they did have these hot pickled onions that were to die for at the salsa bar. I also tried their bean and cheese burrito and I liked that it was whole pinto beans rather than smashed refried beans.... absolutely delicious!
google avatar

Judy L.

Yelp
Taco Tuesday: $1.5 for each taco. The one with pineapple was my fav (al pastor). All tacos we got were well seasoned. Tortillas were soft and had nice texture. Garnishes were fresh. Burrito was very heavy but also tasty. Packed full of contents.
google avatar

Yelp
Happened on this place for a late lunch and I was impressed. Authentic Mexican Street tacos. Delicious. Helpful, friendly cashier took orders promptly and moved the line quickly. Food delivered to my table in short order. Nothing fancy in here, just high quality, good tasting, reasonably priced tacos that are worth driving to. Nice salsa bar with several varieties from mild to hot, plus jalapenos and carrots if you wish. Plenty of parking in the strip mall lot. Try the home made horchata or a fresh aqua fresca. Great place.

Yelp
I was headed out of Denver on an afternoon flight and I was craving tacos - but like hole-in-the-wall tacos. Not a chain. I found Tacos Selene via Yelp and I knew from the photos that I was getting something authentic... like in the back of the Mexican grocery type of authentic. I arrived and it was everything I hoped for - no frills - just deliciously tender proteins on warm corn tortillas with verde sauce (served in small baggies on the side). It was amazing. It was so flavorful and tender and the price point tempted me to go back back up and get more tacos. Do not expect endless chips and salsa or margaritas to your table in the tex-mex style most of us are used to... expect no frills *delicious* tacos with authentic flavors. Would love to return on next trip to Denver.

Yelp
On a casual Sunday afternoon while out shopping. Came across this little gem. The service was quick. The food outstanding and there was even someone playing an accordion outside. A great selection and the salsa bar topped it off. Thank you for a great meal.

Yelp
We loved Tacos Selene!!! If you are looking for AUTHENTIC street tacos, quesadillas, you name it, you have to try their food. Prices are very reasonable and the staff was awesome to say the least. Once you have ordered your food go treat yourself to their salsa bar which had several different salsas to choose from. Looking forward to going back again soon!!!

Jose V.

Yelp
Great customer service and the tacos are good very authentic Mexican , tacos de buche are so. good
google avatar

Maria B.

Yelp
Love the tacos here. The cold salsa bar is definitely a plus as you get to choose what to add. The tacos come with onion and cilantro. The carne asada is my favorite. The last batch I ordered had a few tough pieces, but it doesn't bother me to spit out into a napkin. The steak burrito had good portions of rice, beans, and steak. If you can't handle too much heat, ask for no sauce or the mild sauce in the burrito. Above all, I like their service - friendly and happy.
google avatar

Araceli A.

Yelp
I hate that I never get a picture of my food. Honestly the sopes are my favorite! The service is super quick. It's not the best to sit and eat but the food makes up for it

Isaac S.

Yelp
If I could swear in this review I would These tacos are the ****ing best Literally stop here during a work day and was blown away but the quality and service. I will be back.
google avatar

Yelp
Amazing food great service. You can't beat Taco Tuesday !! Burritos are great as well.
google avatar

Jaime S.

Yelp
Terrible service, all dirty and the waitress starts sweeping and all the dust fell on my food and I still made the comment that all the dust was on my food and it only made her laugh, what a disrespectful person
google avatar

Abby K.

Yelp
This place is just ok. I was really hoping for better tacos. The best part of this place is their salsa bar. They have lots of salsas you can sample from medium to XHOT. I enjoyed the pastor one better than their chicken ones. Lacked seasoning and they were pretty small. They also don't have any other menu items. No chips or salsa, queso, nothing.

Jamie B.

Yelp
What a fantastic Mexican restaurant. Authentic, delicious and fresh! Wow what a find! Great vegetarian burrito!
google avatar

Matt P.

Yelp
I used to work near Tacos Selene and came here all the time for lunch. It is the perfect Mexican restaurant in my eyes...authentic, fairly inexpensive, and and consistently delicious. I'm annoyed going to Mexican joints around the Denver area where 3 "street tacos" add up to $15 and they're just "okay". At Tacos Selene, they taste like legit street tacos and only run $1.50 - $2 a piece, plus they have a salsa bar to throw whatever you want on your tacos. Their burritos are very filling and pretty tasty, but their Torta Especial was one of my favorites. It's pretty greasy, so my stomach always had a rough afternoon, but its so good! As others have pointed out, the location and building is nothing to write home about. It has a very low-key, family-run feeling inside (that could use a little maintenance), so just remind yourself that you're there for the food. You know it's good stuff when there is often a line to the door at lunch time.

Mitsy L.

Yelp
my favorite Mexican restaurant in all of Denver, and I'm Mexican myself. The tacos, burritos, sopes, tortas, all very yummy! And for a very good price!
google avatar

Yelp
Great tacos. Super affordable and filling. Service is fast. This is my go to spot for takeout
google avatar

Yelp
Hands down best tacos ever. I love their assortment of meat - lengua, tripe, al pastor and buche are only a few. All super moist and flavorful. Originally from CA and looking for a good taco place with more than the basic beef and chicken. Go to Taco Selene. Great food, service and good company. Fair prices, it's so worth many amount. See you there :)

Desiree P.

Yelp
These tacos are five star. Period. My go-to order is 2 barbacoa, 2 al pastor, and 2 asada with extra limes and green salsas (all tacos come with cilantro and onion). The restaurant isn't pretty, but who cares when you're eating the best tacos? Sunday is our taco day and Tacos Selene never disappoints on Sunday! Grateful for this gem in Aurora. They have burritos, sopes and tortas, too. Burritos are solid. Smaller than what you're used to at Chipotle, but authentic Mexican deliciousness. The sopes are so good! They come with beans, meat, cheese, sour cream, lettuce, and tomatoes on them. Do yourself a favor and get a sope, for God's sake! See y'all Sunday!

Seshagiri S.

Yelp
Tacos Selene is an absolute gem in Denver for authentic Mexican tacos. With an extensive menu, they offer a wide variety of options to satisfy every palate. What truly sets them apart is their commitment to authenticity without breaking the bank. The flavors are simply outstanding, and the economical prices make it accessible to all. From savory meats to flavorful vegetarian choices, Tacos Selene delivers a taste of Mexico that's hard to beat. If you're in Denver and craving exceptional Mexican tacos, this spot should be at the top of your list.

Yelp
Came here twice in a three day trip. Legit tacos made with real ingredients and flavors. Stop in for a real treat.

Bonni R.

Yelp
I visited Tacos Selene to pick up lunch for my daughter, son in law and myself. It's close to where my daughter works and she visits often. I had heard how awesome the food was so I wasn't surprised to see a line in the middle of the afternoon. As we waited on the "6 feet apart circles" I noticed that they were very efficient. Orders were flying out as fast as they could take them and a server was helping the few tables that were seated in the dining room (with half blocked off). When it was my turn to order, they didn't bat and eye when I said I wanted 15 tacos, guacamole, and lots of their tasty pico. They also have burritos, sopes, quesadillas, tortas and weekend specials but this trip was strictly tacos. I will definitely be back for the sopes. We had the barbacoa tacos, pollo tacos and asada tacos. and all were great. I think my favorite was the barbacoa. Everything was so flavorful and the prices are so reasonable that you can order whatever you want and not worry about it. The staff was very nice and efficient and I can't wait to go back.

Yelp
Looking for legit tacos in Aurora/East Denver area? Look no further! Tacos Selene not only has legit street tacos but it's set at a great price. I was tipped off about Tacos Selene by a friend who has been in search of street-style tacos. She's from LA so when she raved about this place, I knew I needed to try them out. I was finally able to try them out one afternoon and was a bit hesitant when I pulled up. As some reviewers noted, don't judge a book by its cover! This was clearly a locals favorite spot as there was a line to order and the dining area was crowded on a late Saturday afternoon. I was able to try out three different meats: lengua, barbacoa and al pastor. My favorite was the barbacoa--lots of flavor and super tender. I enjoyed the other two tacos but not as much as the barbacoa. They provide two corn tortillas with each taco which was a bit too much for me but does help to keep them sturdy and not soggy. The other star of Tacos Selene is the salsa bar--lots of salsa to choose from as well as pickled vegetables and garnishes. I can understand if some people read this and think affordable or cheap = bad quality but that is not the case here. This place is definitely worth the drive out to the East side if you're looking for delicious and affordable street style tacos!
google avatar

ShaRinn H.

Yelp
Hands down my favorite place for Menudo in the city! Per the usual, it's only available on Sabado y Domingo, but definitely worth it! The flavor & tripe texture is consistently on point! Just don't wait too late, because they sell out quickly!
google avatar

Yelp
We love this place. The Tacos Al Pastor are my husbands favorite. The Ingredients are always fresh and service is so friendly. Definitely stop by if you are in the neighborhood.

Yelp
Felt like I was eating tacos is San Diego again. Awesome find on my visit. Will go again for sure!
