18 Taco Destinations in the East Bay

"One of the classics in Fruitvale, there’s really no wrong order at Tacos Sinaloa. All of the proteins are well-composed and flavorful, but it’s hard not to fall totally in love with the carnitas and cabeza tacos." - Lena Park, Dianne de Guzman

Google
I’ve eaten here before and it was amazing. This time around was very different. We had carne asada tacos, carnitas tacos those were decent. Then we had the Al pastor torta this torta was so disappointing neither of us finished it! The bread was soaked in grease the torta didn’t have much flavor it was just sad!! Truly I almost asked for a refund, But we disposed of the food and went on hungry and disappointed. Also a super burrito there is $20 so not cheap. Service was normal. And there plenty of outdoor sitting space.

Anthony Bullock

Google
Good food, but it took 20 minutes just standing around last night waiting to order. Place felt kinda sketchy, too. People begging right at the truck ain't good either. Had like 3 people trying to service 40 customers. It's better to go during the day.

Edison Huang

Google
Came here because it was highly recommended. Service could've been better. Food was good albeit pricey. Definitely not paying $20 for a [super] burrito...

Michelle Martinez

Google
I ordered two tacos, Al Pastor and two tacos Carna Asada Delicious!

Alejandro Garcia

Google
Food was ro salty and poor condiments when ask for. Food is prepped well but taste is just not there. I got a asada burrito and you can't get something like that wrong. But it was to salty and mire rice and beans then meat ratio.

Google
Outdoor seating under a patio. We ordered at the food truck and sat at the picnic bench. Good quality tacos, generous portions of shrimps. Self-serving means self cleaning.

Ari Wilkins

Google
Locals know about this place, but if you are visiting, you gotta stop by and try the food.

Nicole Del Valle

Google
The food is hot and flavorful. My food didn't take that long to be made. I was a little uncomfortable with so many homeless men just hanging out. They all just stood around and were sitting at most of their outside tables but after I ordered I just stayed in my car, no biggie.

Yelp
At night they serve out of the taco truck and there is some seating on the side but we usually eat in the car. There is a good amount of parking but does get busy there. The burritos here are huge and for $20 it's a great price and can feed 3 people. Had no problem ordering and getting the food. The cashier is nice. They are relatively quick and give you all the sauces. My favorite here are the carnitas, it is crispy and tender. It does not taste dry. The fish tacos are also solid. Would definitely comeback if I'm in the Oakland area or just passing by.

Yelp
Ordered a super carne asada burrito over the app, requested for salsa and was given zero salsa! Burrito itself was severely dry along with the beans. They were hard and brittle. I could feel it breaking down in my mouth. This place is a hit or miss but mostly misses. I am always surprised when I do like it. They are always stingy about giving out salsa. I beg and tip and they still don't budge. Whoever's working should try to eat a dry burrito without salsa, a supersized one!
google avatar

Yelp
Worst costumer service ever, the "taquero" got mad because I asked for extra salsa. Tacos "El good are better anyway!"

Yelp
The food was good. I got carne asana and shrimp tacos. I really liked the shrimp tacos more then the carne asana. But they had a homeless people right next to the cashier who was swearing at me and making me feel unsafe. Not sure I'll come back if this keeps happening to be honest. They should at least tell him to leave instead of me and other customers getting attacked.

Yelp
2138 International Blvd Oakland, CA 94606 (Food Truck) The other day I stopped to grab some street tacos before heading home. The prices are around $3-4 depending on how you load them up. There was a line, so I had time to figure out what to order. A guy there kept insisting I try the Lengua tacos. Okay fine! I don't get enough beef tongue in my diet. I decided to get: 2 Shrimp, 1 Fish, 1 Pork, and 1 Beef Tongue ( pickled veggies incl) OMG, those street tacos were bursting with flavor. I'd rather eat these tacos off a truck hood, than in any sit down restaurant in town. The lengua taco was good. A different taste, but tender and savory. I expected it to be chewy, but it wasn't. FYI, this is East Oakland, be aware of your surroundings. If you don't feel safe, just leave.

Yelp
Meh. The birria tacos were good, but that's about it. The shrimp tacos where more like tomato tacos since each taco only had two pieces of shrimp and tons of pico de gallo. Carne asada and al pastor tacos were dry and blah. Tried to make them taste better by putting salsa, but that was whatever too. I'll wait until I get back to LA to get some really good Mexican tacos.

Silkandsnip S.

Yelp
Clean establishment. Food is decent. Take a carne asada burrito and a chicken taco and a agua de jimica. I'd have to come back to try other items. Made to order hot and fresh great service. I love you can see them prepare the food. No off flavors the only downside is the salsa isn't hot it's more of a lemon bite to it.

Yelp
To sum it up : their foods not good, their service is terrible, they wasted my time, and took my food away. 0/5 stars Congrats tacos Sinaloa for making me leave my first negative review. If I could put no stars, I would. Don't ever come to this over priced, mediocre garbage. While at work, I ordered some food, picked it up, realized I received the wrong item, so I called and they said they couldn't refund me but if I can, to come and pick up the misplaced item. Upon arrival, I waited to be helped while the employees were talking amongst themselves. After waiting awhile I was finally greeted by an older woman and explain my situation. The woman said she talked to her boss and there was a misunderstanding and that we did receive the right order so she WOULD NOT give me what was promised on the phone 10 mins earlier. After trying to make sense about the situation for a bit, I showed the order she gave me instead, I gave her the item, and she asked for the rest of the order. I told her we ate it because we were on our lunch break. She then WOULDN'T give the food back or make what I originally wanted. I asked where her boss and she sarcastically said "probably at home with the air conditioning on" Now being very annoyed, I told her she wasted my time driving back there, and now I'm out of food and still didn't get my money back. She told me leave. I told not until I get my money back. When she finally decided to give me my money, she then slowly started counting my cash as if she were mocking me. This is the worst customer service I've ever experienced. Let's see if the OWNERS even care.

Yelp
Tacos Sinaloa is my go-to taco place in Oakland and just the East Bay in general. All of their tacos are so tasty and the service is always consistently top notch. Sinaloa is a coastal state in Mexico, so they offer amazing seafood dishes like tostadas with shrimp and octopus and great fish tacos. This their first location and most spacious in Oakland. I tend to order the same options, Suadero and Cabeza tacos. Every once in a while I order Al Pastor or Carnitas to change it up a bit. The Ambiance is nice, you definitely feel Oakland energy in this neighborhood and they have several parking spaces available. I always take new friends or Family that are visiting to grab some amazing food and take in the local culture. Grab some tacos and enjoy the seafood as well along with some tasty Agua Fresca options. Even when branching out to new places, we always end up back to Tacos Sinaloa to eat our favorite tacos! Order several taco options and you will likely fall in love, sure hope you give them a chance. ^_^

Yelp
I placed an order through Uber Eats. It was just Ok. I was surprised it wasn't better. I got two very small cups of hot sauce to go with two Super burritos. I would have needed about ten of them. There was no option to request more sauce. The burritos were very large and the Al Pastor had flavor, the flavor was very sweet and had almost no spicy kick to it at all. Being so sweet all but killed it for me. If offered a burrito from there I would probably eat it. But I wouldn't go to this place looking for a burrito. Other portions of the filling were just ok. Maybe I would have liked it significantly better with more sauce. Totally different burrito than Maya Halal, but I would rather have Maya.

Yelp
You cannot go wrong with Tacos in Oakland... just depends where you go ! Food - 4 Atmosphere - 4 Service - 4 Food- We ordered steak, chicken & a veggie taco. The steak was Tender, chicken was tender and juicy. The veggie tacos veggies were fresh. The tortillas were toasted lightly on the grill and they give you double tortillas for your taco. The red & green salsas enhanced the tacos as well. They were about mild heat. They cook to order as well. Service - The person who was taking orders were very fast & efficient. Paid very much attention to detail to make sure if you wanted any substitutions. Atmosphere- They have good parking options so you don't have to park on the street. They have covered table places you can eat outside as well. There were a lot of people here on the day we went.

Yelp
Pulled off the freeway right after landing in Oakland and got these super seasoned tacos that hit the spot! It was midnight in a sketchy part of Oakland and parking was scarce, but the service and food was worth it. Bag came with some jalapeños but I forgot to ask for salsa and they didn't throw any in the bag. It was good and I'd definitely come back to try their burritos. They look really big and they aren't cheap but I'm sure they are good too.
google avatar

Catia L.

Yelp
You just know when you get tacos on a paper plate that it's gonna be bomb especially from a food truck. Tacos Sinaloa is always a must when I'm in the East. I always have to get a shrimp, lengua and carne asada taco because I can't decide between the three. The staff is always so quick with the food, yet their quality never suffers. The seating area is big enough for a bunch of people to eat comfortably as well.
google avatar

Masha G.

Yelp
My friend and I decided to start a taco crawl to find the best tacos in Oakland (although we already have our favorite). This was our second stop of the day and I was sad to see they didn't have tripe, but it gave me the chance to try suadero, and my normal go to of lengua. The lengua was good, but the suadero stole the show as it was nice and crispy but tender! Great tacos!
google avatar

Rose L.

Yelp
Be a SIN to not try Tacos Sinaloa at least once. Since their $1.50 taco deal is a thing in the past, I've been going back to their burritos (carne, buche, or salchica) and their burrito bowls (buche)! They use iceberg lettuce with cheese, beans, pico de gallo. Sour cream and rice! Very fresh and a healthier alternative to a burrito. The burritos are slightly bigger than a waterbottle.
google avatar

Sandy B.

Yelp
Food was great communication was hard just be aware if you are sensitive to spicy, salsa is SPICY.
google avatar

Mamie D.

Yelp
If I'm getting 5 tacos, why aren't you putting any salsas in my bag. And when I ask for some you only put 1. And when I ask for like 2 more you tell me to pay for extra. What??? I told that man I got 5 tacos and you only gave me 1 salsa. He said fine I'll give you one more. This is horrible customer service. I could understand if I asked the man to put 10 salsa in my bag, but he barely wanted to give me the 1. Salsa is condiments for tacos. Everyone likes different amounts on their food and it's not complete unless I have it the way I like. You can't be stingy with salsa! I won't ever come back with this rude interaction over salsa.

Yelp
My wife and I stopped by on a Tuesday evening around 6:00 p.m. and there was very minimal wait. There was only one party in front of us and from the time we ordered to when we received our food was only about a 5 minute wait. Between the two of us, we ordered a super cabeza burrito, a fish taco, and a lengua taco. All this came out to $23 -- $17 for the burrito and $2.50 for each of the tacos (tax is already factored in). The hype is real! To start, the burrito is MASSIVE. It's legit as long as my forearm. I opted for no beans, but I'm sure if I did, the burrito would weigh more than it did. There's a generous amount of shredded cabeza inside the burrito and every bite of it is moist and packed full of flavor. Though green salsa is included on the side, it's not necessary: the burrito is good on its own without it. One thing I definitely want to point out is make sure you come with the proper expectations when you're ordering your super burrito. The super refers to the size -- not the contents like most other places where "super" will include guac, salsa, etc. Moving on to the tacos, they're exactly like the street tacos you'd find in Mexico -- simple and delicious. Three will be enough for most, but if you have a big appetite, you might want to aim for four or five. Don't be shy about ordering one of each meat to discover your favorite for next visit. Last but not least, in terms of logistics, there's a spacious parking lot next to the taco truck as well as tables that you can dine on. Cash only.
google avatar

Pauline C.

Yelp
Hit the spot for late night taco craving, cash only, friendly service but the line seemed to move kind of slow, fantastic carnitas and lengua, ask for extra pickles! Lengua was so soft and tasty, carnitas had such good flavor and texture! Rose meat was kind of dry though, but did have a nice crispy outside.
google avatar

Kelly C.

Yelp
This place will charge you all sorts of random fees. I'll just stick to Tacos El Gordo on 42nd and International. They taste better anyway.
google avatar

Jackie D.

Yelp
Tacos Sinaloa is a hidden gem for taco enthusiasts! My experience with their pastor burrito was nothing short of delightful. The flavors were rich and authentic, leaving me craving more. What's more, the convenience of their parking lot and the option to pay with credit cards made the whole experience seamless. If you're in the mood for mouthwatering tacos with a side of convenience, Tacos Sinaloa is the place to be!
google avatar

Michelle C.

Yelp
Everything seemed to be fresh. I liked the lengua tacos. We started out with 6, and ended up buying another 6. We also had their torta (with asada) and we could not go wrong. We ordered a mixto tostada, and shrimp cocktail. I preferred the cocktail, I felt like it had really good flavor. The service was fast, but be warned it gets busy. People seem to come in bulk. There will be no one and then 10-15 people in like. That's when I got exited that I didn't wait in line. YUMM! So much good food in Oakland it's hard to say I will be back, but I definitely recommend.
google avatar

Jennifer M.

Yelp
Not worth the money. The actual burritos that they are trying to sell are so small. I'm used to large ones cuz I am use to the mission burritos you know burritos mas grande
google avatar

Betty G.

Yelp
TO be honest-- I only been to this place twice. They are famously known for their large sized burritos that are as long as your forearm. But the burrito itself is nothing to rant about. I have had way better. I only tried the burrito so i cant say much about the other menu items. Maybe its the tacos that bring a lot of attention. The aguas frescas is OK. I'd give jt a 7.5. Its too watered down. They get pretty busy at night time especially when they stay open late. Other than that if you ask me if its worth a try-- I'd say no. Its only cool to see an enormous burrito. But as for the taste--rather stick to a normal size
google avatar

Mr. R.

Yelp
The food is very good! Shady ambiance and service is decent. I got the carnitas regular burrito. It's delicious. They crisp up some of the carnitas, giving it a perfect mix between a soft and crunchy and flavorful texture. My wife got the torta with carnitas. It was also good but I liked the burrito better. The neighborhood is rough, but it was an adventure with a happy ending.. well, a delicious ending rather. In this neighborhood, I guess you could get both if you wanted to.
google avatar

Teddy P.

Yelp
Went here on my lunch break has such good shrimp burritos! The put a lot of white chipotle sauce though if that's not ur thing. It's a food truck in a lot with some seating. If you're in the area I would recommend!
google avatar

Jake B.

Yelp
One of our new favorite spots. The carnitas was so perfectly cooked that we had to stop in our tracks and appreciate it. We got the quesabirria too, which was absolutely wonderful. Truly no complaints about this place, aside from the sketchy location. Will definitely be back in any case!
google avatar

Nancy P.

Yelp
Good stuff, I normally get the tacos which are flavorful. They are on the smaller side so I usually increase my order. Wait in line and they will call you when your order is ready. There are outside seats but I've never eaten there.
google avatar

Gabriel A.

Yelp
Food is good. Service is amazing and it was pretty quiet tonight. The super Carnitas burrito made my night. Cut in half, and a great meal for the whole team. If there is a line of 10 or 20 or more, you know it's worth it and it is worth the wait.
google avatar

Ariel L.

Yelp
Very tasty, fast service for food truck. Got the tostada and friend got a burrito. We were both very happy!
google avatar

Jamie L.

Yelp
lives up to the hype! stopped by for some tacos. got lengua, carne asada and carnitas. each meat protein was perfectly cooked, flavorful and tender. the carnitas was crispy, and one of my favorites. cash only. no dining or seating so more of a pick up/take out situation.
google avatar

Karen J.

Yelp
Really not sure if we came on an off day or not. We ordered 10 tacos and a burrito. All with asada. The meat was so incredibly dry and the tortilla was like chewing on a cardboard. If we had some more sauce maybe it could've balanced out all the dryness but they wanna charge 2$ for some extra sauces when we asked. For 10 tacos! And a burrito! They come with a very light drizzle of sauce. Come on lol!!!! So I would probably steer away if you like saucey tacos cuz they won't give it to ya!
google avatar

Tiffany W.

Yelp
A delicious spot for tacos and burritos! Burritos is super juicy and filling. Asada and al pastor are definitely both my top choices. I also like the pickled veggies that come with them. Look for the bright orange taco truck parked at the corner!
google avatar

Xavier M.

Yelp
Literally the best tacos I had from a taco truck. They are friendly, and their Fruitvale truck is a very interesting location. I could give 10 stars if I could!
google avatar

Augusto T.

Yelp
Came for late night tacos and left very happy. The 10 min wait in the cold breeze was worth it. The tortillas were warm. The carnitas were crispy and delicious. The lengua was tender. The carrot pickles were abundant and a highlight worth coming back for. The al pastor was just OK. The tacos hit the spot.
google avatar

Laura L.

Yelp
Always awesome...had the torta de camaron and a pineapple agua fresca to treat myself after a day of hauling furniture around the bay. If anyone asks me where the best Mexican food is in the Bay Area, I send them here!
google avatar

Samantha L.

Yelp
Rating: 3.5/5 Pro: - Good horchata Con: - Limited parking - A couple of people with housing insecurity are wandering around very close to you and your car. They also come begging for money. - The tacos are unimpressive - A bit pricey for street tacos - They don't do grilled onions Dishes: 2 Lengua & 1 Pescado (fish) taco - Pass on the pescado (fish) taco, it's not good at all
google avatar

Renee T.

Yelp
So amazing and delicious and yummy. I don't normally finish my burrito but as you can see in the picture I have nearly finished it. One of the best I've ever had. Service was great and I am very satisfied. Thank you.
google avatar

Yelp
East bay burrito #25 First bite 7/7 Meat 7/7 Rice 6/7 Beans 5/7 Tortilla 7/7 Cheese 6/7 Salsa 6/7 Overall 6/7 What good burrito. Tortilla with the option of grilling dorado style. Wonderful. The only thing I could see improving is a refried bean option.

Darick R.

Yelp
Would give it 4 stars but recently the regular burritos haven't hit the same. The service is great!!
google avatar

Amanda T.

Yelp
Quick service, big servings for tacos, and very friendly servers. Get the pickled veggies if you can handle a little spice because they complement your food perfectly too.
google avatar

Bianka G.

Yelp
Hands down - for years- this place knows and does tacos well! Super legit taco spot. Yessss sometimes it can be shady, yessss there's always someone asking for change, yessss parking can be a hassle, and yessss the prices have gone up BUT the tacos are just too good to pass up! They have a ton of meat options and seafood, so your needs can be met. I've had asada, carnitas, Al pastor, suadero, and shrimp and they are all bomb. Everything is juicy and not dried out. The red salsa hits the spot and for an extra kick the pickled Serranos and carrots will turn up the heat. Mannnn I wish I was back at the truck while I write this. LETS GOOOOOO!
google avatar

Prasiddha H.

Yelp
Went to tacos Sinaloa after having my eye on this place for a while. Even though this food truck is not located in the best of places, the food here is one that keeps people from all over the place coming back for more: I was finally able to try today! When here, ended up ordering: * fish taco - delicious and flavorful * Al pastor taco - super flavorful and loved the strong marination of the meat * carnitas taco - this came crispy especially the top which gave each bite a light crunch which was delicious * cabeza taco - this taco I really liked, the meat was fatty and soft and came with a yummy sauce on top * chicken taco - this was shredded chicken and also very flavorful * carne asada taco - this one was my least favorite probably because I found it to be a bit salty Overall, good place for authentic tacos!
google avatar

Natalie G.

Yelp
As a Mexican American from LA, this place has my heart. The carnitas tacos are so delish! The asada burrito is just as great. There are tables that you can sit and eat at, which were perfectly clean might i add. The people were great and welcoming!

Yelp
Son rápidos me gusta mucho este lugar el personal es atento y amable si lo recomiendo

Yelp
Now these are some bomb ass street tacos! Located smack dab in the hood of East Oakland right off International. But y'all know sometimes you have to hit the hood to get that good sh!t. Their truck is actually located right in front of their brick and mortar restaurant. I was in the area and caught a craving for some street tacos. I've passed by this truck quite a few times, and there always seems to be a line. Took a chance and decided to drop by on an early week night. There was still a line, but it wasn't as deep as it usually is. Their tacos are priced very decently at around $3ish dollars each and it's cash only. It's a bit extra if you wanna get fancy wit it and order some seafood or specialty meat tacos. Ended up ordering steak, carnitas, shrimp, and fish tacos (don't judge me! I'm a piggy!). Didn't take too long before it was ready. They have a few tables out front where you can sit and eat if you so choose. But with all the sketchiness goin' on over there, you know I wasn't doin' that. Got to the car and started slammin' those mofo's down one by one. The fish and steak were good but not great. The fish was a bit mushy and the steak seemed to be lacking a bit in flavor. But where they are winning is with those carnitas and shrimp tacos. Now, THOSE suckas were bombsy! The carnitas were crispy which is how I prefer them, and the shrimp were nice and plump. They def could have used more salsa but maybe that's just me. When I asked for more, the guy at the window only gave me two tiny ass little containers more for 4 tacos and said that it would cost $0.50 extra for more. Very stingy but I'm sure people have probably taken advantage of the salsa here before. Also to note; parking is atrocious here. They do have a few spots in front, but people just pull in all kind of ways and park randomly right in front. One dude was actually blocking people from getting out by parking right in front of the exit. You know how dem hood folk be. They don't be givin' a faaaack. I'd suggest you just park on the street if you can find it (at least that's what I did). Honestly, this is probably the best Oakland taco truck that I've ever been to. I can understand the hype. Totally worth it for some deliciously cheap street tacos.
google avatar

Richard M.

Yelp
Positively delicious!! I got 2 suadero and 1 lengua tacos, with guacamole. They were all fantastic. The suaderos came with fairly spicy red sauce; not HOT, just a bit of kick. As compared to lengua which was mild. I loved them all but may scale back a touch on the spice,... or double up on the lengua, get 1 suadero. Wife had carne asada - same red sauce. She liked it but agreed a tiny bit less red sauce would be preferred. She also added pinch of salt.
google avatar

Sarah V.

Yelp
My friend and I stopped here on a whim because we were in the nearby area and have heard good things. Parking seemed pretty crazy, but luckily, we were able to grab a spot across the street. Also, the line was fairly long, but it was moving fairly quickly. We always hear how good the carnitas are, so we decided to grab a few tacos to-go. Their carnitas seems as though they are pan-fried/grilled more than your average carnitas, which gives it a slightly more crispy texture to it. Since it was so crowded, we made the mistake of eating them when we got back to the house, which was about 20 minutes away. Nevertheless, they were still tasty. Next time, I definitely would want to eat them when they're fresh off the truck.

Yelp
Back awhile ago a friend had his mixing/recording studio nearby and we went here for lunch- we were late risers so lunch for us was around 6pm. Dayum !!! Just the tenderest asada and fabulously flavourful ál pastor tacos I ever had !!! It immediately became a regular spot for me- especially late nights after weekend shows, and with dates when I maintained an automobile. Well worth the trip from anywhere in the East Bay- true quality ingredients and superlative flavors!!! SABOR !!!

Yelp
Doesn't disappoint if you looking for tacos, even has lengua or cabesa, if you like that flavor. Can get busy, so go ahead and make your order! Choice salsa for your dish.
