Where to Eat the Best Tacos in Nashville | Eater Nashville

"Situated in a former gas station, El Amigo has been a favorite taco stop for those in the know for years. The brightly colored space on Nolensville Road offers nearly a dozen choices including carne asada and steak. Pair them with an order of horchata and their guacamole for a truly outstanding taco experience." - Ellen Fort

Google
Tacos Y Mariscos El Amigo on Nolensville Road is a true gem in Nashville! The chorizo tacos were absolutely amazing—full of flavor and cooked perfectly. You can tell they use quality ingredients, and the taste really stands out. While the prices are a little higher than some spots, it’s still a great deal for the freshness, portion sizes, and overall experience. Definitely worth it if you’re craving authentic, delicious tacos!

Google
Absolutely abhorrent. Ordered on door dash, food was delivered on styrofoam plates with foil on top. Shrimp tacos were simply boiled, soft shrimp with no seasoning; tacos were limp, lifeless and flavorless. The shrimp quesadilla was a wet soggy mess of god knows what. I can’t understand how this place has good reviews.

Google
If you want REAL tacos, this is the place!!! Street style tacos and many other mexican dishes. Delicious, great taste and good portions with Excellent price. I have turned to a current customer ☺️ and finally giving my review. Great job!! It is hard to find places with the check boxes. Try the chicharrón tacos, it is spicy tho, but so GOOD!!!!! 😩

Google
Barbacoa Burrito is delicious. Cooks in the kitchen are Mexican. Authentic. There is indoor seating in an enclosed patio. Great hospitality.

Had a great meal with the family at Tacos Y Mariscos El Amigo in Nashville. The atmosphere is no-frills but focused on serving up authentic Mexican flavors. We kicked things off with the guacamole, and it didn’t disappoint—fresh, flavorful, and a great start. My wife went for the pastor tacos, which were well-seasoned with just the right amount of kick. I had the birria tacos, and they were packed with tender, juicy meat and plenty of flavor. Our kids had the quesadilla, and they polished it off without a second thought. Service was friendly and quick, making the whole experience even better. If you’re craving genuine Mexican food in a laid-back spot, this place is worth a visit.

Google
I’m not going to lie, I had my doubts by looking at the building. However, I was impressed. We went early in the morning so there were no customers. Tacos de Carnitas 10/10 full of flavor. Tacos de al Pastor were not good at all. They tasted like they burned the meat so I didn’t finish it. And the limes definitely 10/10 you saw all the juice that came out of it! Onions were grilled perfectly! Service was good and they checked on us often. Definitely coming back when I’m in Nashville!

Google
Quite possibly the best tacos I've ever had. After spending $22 on Broadway for 3 okay tacos I set out to find a better taco place, and thw i found this place the next day and spent only $13 on 6 tacos and a drink. I even went back to order two more after my first four. With the option of small or large you can easily have a great lunch for little money.

Google
This place used to be a gas station but now is an amazing Mexican joint. Our server was the perfect balance of efficient, kind, and attentive without being overwhelmingly so. I was with my "buffet friend" haha so we ordered a bunch of little things and everything came out timed well and delicious. Yes, you might have to Google the names of some dishes, but please for the love of delicious food, get something you've never had before. Those are the best kinds of adventures. We had guacamole, which was the most perfect balance of ingredients. That citrus hit perfectly! We also had pico, which wasn't my favorite pico, but you cannot win them all. I got the pulpo enamorado, which was the dish we've never had before, and it was this amazing octopus seafood salad type dish that was delicious on crackers or the tostadas. We also sampled a gordita, a few tacos, and a tamale. Everything was great. You should really go forth and adventure here! Bonus is that there are international markets across the street to keep on adventuring!

Yelp
I also just wanted to amend my review and also emphasize that THIS is the best Birria in Nashville. I used to believe it was Maiz de la vida, but the sheer flavor, gooiness, and crispiness of El Amigos are unparalleled. The only thing I wish they added was a consommé but the flavors are so elevated anyways it's not even necessary.

Yelp
This place is my NUMBER ONE IN NASHVILLE! Holy shitttttttttttttttttttttttttttttt, it'a so so so so goooooood. Im want to kiss who ever cooks the food every time i take a bite. They have the best tacos, like i can not get over how good everything is. The stafffff is incredible and sweet too. They don't speak a lot of English, but im stupid and know zero Spanish. So i started learning cause im in love. That cheese taco is the best, and chicken and assada. And just everything. Pretty cool and chill spot. Feels homy. And they are open late.

Yelp
There's a lot of Mexican restaurants in this part of Nashville, but this is one of my favorites! This taqueria is a sit in restaurant. The ladies who work here are very attentive. I always get the quesabirria which is AMAZING but I tried their burrito this time and was highly satisfied. It came with a grilled jalapeño, lime, and grilled onions. All the food in the picture was just $25!!! It's located next to Fresh and Fresh market, which is nice because I can grab a good meal and do my grocery shopping in one trip.

Yelp
Wow finally found a great place for carnitas, tamales and much more. Excellent food, just go try it you will not be disappointed.

Yelp
My coworker from Nashville recommended this spot because I had a taste for authentic Mexican food. Our waitress was really nice! The restaurant was really clean, chill, and the music was good too. The food was pretty good but it could have been seasoned a little better. I recommend trying out this spot if you are in the area and want some authentic Mexican food.

Yelp
Yes yes yes yes yes yes yes!!!!! Seriously, don't sleep on this place... It is delicious. Friendly service. Highly Recommended!!

Yelp
We've been here twice now and have loved it each time. It's located right near a gas station with cheap gas too, so that's also a win. We love the birria tacos and guacamole, which we get every time. The chicken is also nicely smoked. Honestly can't go wrong with anything on the menu. The service is also great and there's plenty of seating.
google avatar

Yelp
So I lied I thought I thought my favorite on the menu was the regular tacos. I was wrong; the best thing and favorite is the Quesabirria taco! These are cheesy beefy crispy goodness! So much cheese, and the birria meat is full of flavor. I wish they had birria ramen on the menu because I could order the broth to bathe in it, lol. On a serious note, each birria taco is $3.50. They are bigger than the regular tacos. 2 of these will fill you up. It gets heavy, so make sure you have horchatas on hand. The server is always super friendly; I'm always pleased with the service. There is also plenty of parking spots.

Yelp
One of my favorite authentic places on the Nolensville strip. Everything tastes and looks more authentic. Guacamole is always fresh. Yes, it is a little dirty and sitting in an old gas station, but everything is so yummy. Staff can barely speak English...but no matter, just point to the menu and enjoy the food. I frequent this place about 3-4/year.

Agustin R.

Yelp
Food and service was subpar very disappointing. Had lengua and carnitas tacos and was served with more fat than meat and flavor was not there. Salsa is very watered down. The waitress was rude when asked questions. Will not be returning.

Jon D.

Yelp
this is the best Mexican in all of Nashville. their burrito, guacamole, and everything I've gotten there are the best I've ever had. my personal favorite is their Asada burrito! i Have ordered from there 3 times in one week! Check it out!

Paulo S.

Yelp
This place is absolutely amazing, all the food was so good and fresh would come back here anytime if I lived in Tennessee

Yelp
500 star review for this gas station burrito/taco joint. I don't have enough good things to say about this place! Coming from San Diego, my endless hunt for bomb Mexican food has finally ended. Thank you El Amigo.

Stacey M.

Yelp
Ordered take-out chicken Tacos & house specialty Quesadilla which had brisket etc. Both were delicious and will be back for more!
google avatar

Yelp
Great food for the price. Service was not so great, the lady server had an attitude and messed up our order and was trying to blame us for it. Place can use an upgrade. Overall experience was pleasant.
google avatar

Paul E.

Yelp
Loved the birria quesadilla. Not sure if I'd recommend the chips and salsa... it's just fried whole tortillas that you have to break up. And instead of salsa you just get pico. But the price was super fair and the staff was very friendly.

Yelp
I should have taken a pic of that mess! Even being a 1st time customer and during a pandemic, this should have been returned. 1. The rice. I'm a minority and they're minority. Most minorities food is rice base. With that being said, how hard is it to cook rice? If you have a lot of rice leftover from last night, THROW IT AWAY! As many Southeast Asian, Middle Eastern and Latino grocery stores are in that neighborhood, you could have seriously bought a 20 lb bag of rice for the low low! The audacity to serve me some leftover dried rice. WTF people! Do better. 2. Yes I'm back on that Minority shit! I don't think I've ever tasted such passed over the salt food! I mean I don't have high blood pressure! Nor do I have a cholesterol issue! Please throw some salt in my food! I just could not believe how lacking of seasoning this food was! Maybe you should move this restaurant to Bellevue or Belle Meade where they don't use seasoning! And yes, if you're not used to eating food that is seasoning then yes yes yes yes ... this food is delicious! And if you're one of these people who don't know how to cook and constantly eat out, then yes yes yes yes this food is good! But if you know how to cook for yourself and if you use seasoning, keep driving! Do not stop! 3. The Quesibirria... lordt or lawd! If you do not know how to control the temperature gauge of a stove when using oil to fry ... back away. And leave well enough alone. Again with this audacity! Yes I said it! The audacity to serve me a BURNT quesi whatever! (Oh we'll get to the birria part!) Y'all I swear it was burnt! It was burnt it was burnt it was burnt! And it was clearly burnt! There was no hiding how burnt it was! Like do you need glasses? You darn sure don't have cataracts cause cataracts couldn't have hidden how burnt it was! So I don't know what's wrong with the chef's eyesight, but he might be partially blind! Bc they were burnt as the day is long in the summer! a. Birria- (taken from Merriam dictionary) a Mexican dish of STEWED meat SEASONED with chili peppers. b. Stewed- (also taken from Merriam directory) cooked slowly in LIQUID in a closed dish or pan. I. Hence liquid. TF did they serve me this dry ASS minced meat? Bc of it being so burnt it didn't even look like the picture on the door! Furthermore the meat was nowhere near stewed. No liquid our juices running out of the meat... AT ALL! Boo boo kitty at this restaurant who cooked this, you do not have to be Mexican to know when meat is stewed! You do not even need to be a minority to know when meat has stewed! You merely just need to be a human to know when meat is stewed!!!! So why on God's green earth did you have the audacity... (There we go with this audacity again!) But you had the big balls filled with audacity to serve me some minced dried ass roast beef! Like you really had some big balls to serve me this! Had I not had to drive all the way to Brentwood... (Williamson city Brentwood) I would have brought it back and tried my best not to have an attitude! I mean I would have honestly asked for a police escort to return that trash. Because to have such audacity to have served that slop, lets me know I would have needed a law enforcement escort to get my money back! Y'all have some big balls is all I can say! I can't believe the garbage you served me. And it was garbage because the rice was old! Anybody who grew up on Rice would have known that Rice was old! Ain't no way on God's green earth you can say that Rice was freshly made the day it was served! And then a burnt quesadilla? That *expletive* was darker than a dark skinned black person! How did you fail to see this? Maybe I'm so pissy because I'm PMS-ing! But God is my witness had this been a regular establishment or some type of food chain, I would have taken so many pictures and blasted their corporate/ headquarters office and then posted it and all forms of social media! This place had lost their minds serving such trash! You bet your last dollar I will never ever ever ever ever ever return to this establishment! Do yourselves a favor and don't call it Mexican or Latino or food. You have totality disgraced their culture... As well as just food in general! You don't deserve the title to be called a restaurant. And you most definitely don't deserve one star! You only deserve the title "Pigsty". #un-freakin'-believable #LessonLearned

Yelp
Great food, great prices, great people. We came here at 3 am and it was packed with so many people. I've never seen that many people at restaurant that late at night. It was such a cool scene and everyone seemed to be having a great time. The server was very kind and really helped us out since we didn't know how to speak/understand Spanish. Definitely a great late night bite! Hopefully next time we will be able to grab a seat instead of taking it to go.

Yelp
Great tacos de lengua and spicy pickled onions. Absolutely a hidden gem and delicious food. Not really great atmosphere, but we are there for the food anyways right?!?!

Yelp
4.5 If you have driven by, but not stopped in to taste the food, you might be wondering if a place that looks this ___ uh _____ shabby and unkempt deserves 5 stars. I stopped in and was totally blown away by the food. So, no this is not a gourmet, 5 star, hoity-toity, upscale restaurant. But what it is, is the epitome of phenomenal street-style tacos with unbelievable, umami flavor, plenty of options, bright and gaily-themed decor, and low-low prices. I ordered 3 tacos - lengua (tongue), asada (grilled beef), and pastor (spicy pork). Served on double mini, 3-inch corn tortillas, loaded with meat, topped with chopped greens and onion, (pico on the side) and a drizzle of lime for zesty citric acid, these were - without a doubt - the most flavorful, tender (lingua), crispy (asada), and piquant [picante] (pastor) tacos I have had in recent memory. Indeed, the smoky aromas, textures, and accompanying add-ons took me back to days long-gone...strolling the streets of Latin America and savoring the incredible flavors the Latino culture now brings us with its gifts of food. ¡Muy rico! (Rich in flavor, for sure.) No...no fancy silverware or linen napkins....just plain, ol' lovingly prepared street food at bargain prices. OK....1/2 a star deduction for the mediocre guac. But it was far-outshined by the rest of the meal.

Yelp
The food was not worth the price. Also there was a cockroach that was on our table, and when we told the waitress all she said was "what can I say". She just wiped it off the table with a napkin. The camarones al ajo had a bunch of onions, not one bit of garlic was on them. Not worth it, do not recommend.

Yelp
Whether you're catching a flight in or out of Nashville, be sure to stop here for a taco pit stop! You can't miss it, it's kinda catchy since it used to be an old gas station. Since today is Sunday, there's a small section in the back of the menu where you can check out the weekend specials! Yes and yes to the $2 chicken tamales! We ordered one green and one red. Although they weren't super packed with meat, the masa was very flavorful and every bite was full of goodness, especially topped with their house hot sauce and pickled red onions/habaneros. Also, you'll definitely want to order a plate of 4-5 tacos, I'm not even joking! These tiny authentic Mexican tacos are to die for, and you can't beat the $1.50 price! The slight crisp on the tortilla shell makes for the perfect experience, especially paired with the side of grilled onions they serve with it. What topped off our meal was their weekend special drink: atole. I would describe it as a hot cereal drink with a kick of cinnamon. Apparently there are pecans in there too! Sounds delish, huh? This hot Mexican drink hit the spot, and we even ordered one to go. I was so pleased with this Mexican restaurant: the friendly faces, quick service, soccer blasting on the tv, yummy food, delicious hot sauce, good prices, and casual scene... perfect way to start my rainy Sunday!

Yelp
You've probably driven by this place multiple times while driving on Nolensville Road. It is a converted gas station. The decor is simple yet cultural . In the menu is also standard for Mexican restaurants. We ordered the beef and Barbacoa tacos, the grilled chicken and some guacamole. All the food was standard and nothing out of this world. The service was prompt for a Friday evening. They do not serve alcohol. The portions are good.

Yelp
Their Chicken Sandwich (Torta de Milanese) is $9, feeds two people, made with super fresh ingredients and is one of the best chicken sandwiches I've ever had. It was so good we got one to go. Ate it in the Zoo parking lot. Loved it so much we turned around and bought two more.

Yelp
great tacos. cheap prices. always consistent. great service. vibe is a small little taco shop, but cozy.

Yelp
Very kind and patient service with wonderful food, especially the beans!! Highly recommend!!

Yelp
For about $20 two of us stuffed ourselves on authentic Mexican. Awesome! The restaurant is in a former gas station at the corner of Elysian Fields Road and Nolensville Pike. Once you walk in it starts immediately feeling like you've crossed the border - the smells of the food, the telenovelas or futbol on the TV, and the Spanish conversations. I had a shrimp gordita and asada and pastor tacos. They came along with the spicy pickled onions (a typical condiment in Mexico) and grilled onions on the side. For the price, I was pleasantly surprised that the shrimp were cooked well and tasty. If I had to pick between the asda and pastor tacos, it would be hard - both were excellent. I liked that we did not feel rushed even though we dined close to closing time. Service was friendly and accommodating, answering our questions and even offered a sample of the agua de jamaica so I could judge how sweet it was (very) before committing. Oh and despite the casual, former gas station environment, you'll be happy to know they scored nearly perfect on their most recent health inspection (at the time of writing). Don't let the exterior fool you, this is a great find.

Yelp
I love trying out the many Latin American restaurants and food trucks on Nolensville, but El Amigo didn't stand out to me unfortunately. The lengua was pretty rough (very gristly and unpleasant to look at and chew), and the carne asada taco was tough and had a bit of a strange taste. And I always think of carne asada as a sure thing crowd pleaser! The service was also not great. They brought the wrong food to us, and we had to ask several times for the bill. I love the place itself - it's an old gas station at the corner of Elysian Fields and Nolensville, but the food didn't stand out and there are too many places to get great Latin American food to go back to places that don't impress!
google avatar

Alyssa J.

Yelp
This place is so cute inside and the service was great. My boyfriend and I loved everything we ordered! I had a shrimp taco and the tostada mixta (which comes with three types of seafood). The shrimp were delicious. Some places over or under cook the shrimp, but these were perfect! My boyfriend had the pastor tacos and the barbacoa burrito. The burrito was huge! He loved both things he ordered. We will definitely be back for more!

Yelp
SOOOOO GOOD! One of the best tacos I've had in my life! I can't believe it's this food. I had no expectations but this really set the bar! Im from Cali where there are a lot of legit shops and this beats most of them! I definitely recommend carne asada taco and the quesadilla Tripa!!! Quesadilla is BOMB!!!!! Both are so good
google avatar

Yelp
Just moved to Nashville from Newport Beach California. Jonesen for authentic Mexican, and their simple tacos are like driving to King taco in East LA, only better; authentic Mexican and zero fear of getting car jacked in LA. Chingon!
google avatar

Danny N.

Yelp
El Amigo is legit great authentic Mexican food. The restaurant is a more hole in the wall type place that used to be a gas station. It may be my favorite Mexican place that doesn't serve alcohol in Nashville. I ordered a chalupa which was top notch (the shell and meat were great), a tamale which was very good, and some guacamole which was ok. Their tortas looked fantastic as well.

Yelp
Met a girl on match.com who suggested we come here on a date... then I married her. Carnitas are that good.

Jay G.

Yelp
This has been one of my go-to authentic taco spots for 15 years. They've grown some popularity over the years and have expanded the location. It used to be just one room. Now has porch seating and of course my favorite... standing outside and smashing tacos hunched over trying not to get juice all over oneself. The staff are always very nice and patient even if you don't speak Spanish. They are open early and late. Late is nice because you can get fresher and hotter food here than you would at Taco Bell but spend the same amount. I've tried every taco they make. They're all fantastic! I may choose the shrimps slightly more than the rest, but honestly it's just the mood and hunger at the time. If you say you are a taco connoisseur and haven't been here then you are missing out!
google avatar

Yelp
Looking for inexpensive Mexican food...ambiance not so important? Here's a decent authentic place. For my taste the food could have had more flavor. But I have experienced similar in Mexico and used some sauces to find the right flavors. The guacamole could have used some heat (serrano) additional lime and cilantro and the house made tortilla's needed some added salt and seemed to hard. Taco's were OK. Definitely try this if you're in for Mexican. I will give another try in a few weeks. My favorite on Nolensville Pike still remains to be LaHa, or La Hacienda.

Tom J.

Yelp
Barbecue barrel outside? Check -- -- Never patronize a Mexican place that doesn't have that. This may be the best Mexican restaurant in Nashville. Their street tacos are the best, for certain. But I especially like the enchiladas verdes, although they may be a bit hot for some people. No parking problem because it's next door to a supermarket. Very friendly staff.

Bryan B.

Yelp
The tacos tasted like shit and the horchata was horrible definitely wouldn't recommend this place
google avatar

Chris A.

Yelp
I can't believe I've never written a review here of all the times I've been here. Hands down, my favorite Mexican / Latin American restaurant in Nashville. Hands down. Real tacos. Real mariscos. The real name is 'Tacos Y Mariscos El Amigo' I always home here for lunch. I get the Tacos carne Asada. They have all of them though. Asada Pastor Barbacoa Lengua Chicharron Carnitas Tripa Chorizo Buche They have tostadas, ceviche!

Lindsey B.

Yelp
We have passed by this place often and decided to check it out. Really impressed with the variety and quality of the food! Super cute shop and great service. Recommend!

Yelp
My favorite Taco place in Nashville - and there's 100's! Food is consistently great. Authentically flavorful, great meals and my favorite Tacos de chicharrón. Their horchatas are always good not overly sweet - just enough to calm the heat of their delicious green sauce & pickled red onions (the onions are insanely spicy be forewarned) Totally economical think 6 tacos, small guacamole, an horchata & a coke for $18 bucks! My only ask is that they make their menu available online.
google avatar

Brittani C.

Yelp
Went to get chicken tacos but they didn't have them. Instead got the chicken platter. It was delicious! Great price and large meal. Service was a bit absent.

Yelp
Located in an old gas station, we were a little leery, but as my momma told me, you never judge a book by its cover. We stopped in on a Saturday around lunch time. We were greeted by a waitress & told to pick where we wanted to sit. They've got a small area inside that used to be the gas station, then a patio area that is an add on. We sat out on the patio area, granted the windows are fixed & not able to open. We got the menus and looked around. They've got the standard authentic Mexican fare. We decided to get a spicy pork burrito ($8), chorizo tostada ($5) & two pork tacos & two BBQ beef tacos ($1.50 each). Oh & we ordered a small guacamole ($3.50) because you don't get chips & salsa for free here. The small guacamole comes with 3 tostada shells, which you break up to make chips that's like 12 chips, so I thought it was kind of sparse in that regard. The guacamole didn't have much flavor to me other than avocado, I would've liked a little more in it other than a couple pieces cilantro. We got our food along with two sauces, one a green, salsa verde type sauce & another red, hot sauce. I enjoyed the flavor of the red sauce. The burrito was huge, I loved the spicy pork in it, but the uncooked tomato in the burrito & rice didn't have much flavor. I put a lot of hot sauce on it & it was better. The tacos were good, I love a corn tortilla tacos, the pork was crispy. The tostada was average, the chorizo was spicy & I liked it. The service was friendly but sparse. The prices are average for the Nashville Mexican scene. I think it should list that for $1.50 you're getting a can of coke & not a glass that gets free refills.

Yelp
I love this spot for my quick taco kick! The staff is very friendly. The quality is good and cost effective!

Yelp
went there with the wife after shopping at Fiesta E-Mart, ordered 50% of the vegetarian options they had on the menu - in other words, I had two choices and went with the quesadilla. It came with a nice side plate of beans, rice, lettuce and one demon pepper. I'd taken a couple of bites of the thing, thought "oh, this is fine" I learned a valuable lesson that day - sometimes peppers are not hot at the tips. It wasn't Dave's Insanity crazy, but it was hotter than I was prepared for. The quesadilla was large... most of them at other places are what I consider an appetizer, here it felt like a meal. large chunk of food. Basically my meal was good enough for me to go back. The outdoor-indoor-patio area was pretty nice. Felt a little rigged, but was comfy.

Yelp
Not too shabby. Tacos are 1.25 and served up authentic style with the greasy cornmeal tortilla and plenty of grilled onion and cilantro - no weird frou frou flavors or flour tortilla's here - just authentic barbocoa and pork (I tried the pastor, not the chorizo). Tons of meats to choose from, but each taco is still served pretty much the same way. The horchata was served in a huge glass and complemented the spicier of the salsa I piled on. Your choices are a nice creamy green salsa and a zestier red, where you can still see the pieces of chili pepper. Zingy, but not unbearably so. 2 tacos was filling, but I also stole some bites of hubs beans - but even if you ordered 3, you'd be super full for under $4. Taco Bell prices, but way more NOM! Weird old gas station set-up with a seemingly hand built patio added on, but I like weird stuff.

Yelp
Ohh you know we ate they're grilled whole chicken for about a year So by that I assume you can tell that we like it, a lot. It's fresh and seasoned well with some tortillas and a plate of rice and beans and salad. It's a whole meal like what more could you ask for!? We have tried tacos here to and they're delicious as well. Go try the chicken you will be hooked.

Yelp
Awesome authentic Mexican food! We ordered 3 tacos each, asada, and they were absolutely delicious! Ordered 4 more after we finished because really we could have eaten 10 apiece. The total bill was less than $20 and we will be back for sure. Not the most amazing location but it's authentic. No frills. Great food!

Yelp
Gas station tacos....that's what my kids call them. The location was once a gas station but now there's a smoker out back that produces Nashville's most delicious tacos and they are just $1.50 each. We visited Mamacito Taco in Nashville on Villa Place recently and paid about $5/taco and were very disappointed. Hip, expensive, and mediocre. El Amigo, on the other hand, never disappoints. There are two problems with this place they need to solve urgently. The service and the pervasive odor in the entire restaurant. First the service: It's a tiny place, but the owner has relegated "front of house" to a 12 or 13 year old boy, who has no training or guidance as to what effective service looks like. Menus are delivered with no greeting or information. Orders are taken without writing them down, so our order is made incorrectly, literally every time we visit (wrong # of tacos, wrong filling, wrong sides etc). We love their Horchata, but when refills are provided, the styrofoam cups are only 1/2 or 3/4 full. This is weird. Either fill the cups or don't provide refills. The cheapest, thinnest napkins are on every table in a 1950s style dispenser which causes you to tear or destroy the napkin as you are dispensing them. The cutlery provided is always plastic - if you want actual cutlery you have to ask for it. You get a super short, plastic spoon with which to eat your rice and beans, instead of a fork. But the worst aspect of the service at El Amigo is that all the food in the order never, ever comes out of the kitchen at the same time. If you order tacos with rice and beans, the rice and beans will be delivered and will sit on the table at least 10-15 minutes before the tacos arrive. If you point out that the rice and beans are now cold, they take them to the kitchen where they are microwaved. This is done while your tacos sit on the table getting cold. We usually ask for extra lime with the tacos. Extra lime is never delivered with the meal - we always have to ask twice and then they turn up about 10 minutes into the meal, whether or not they are busy. This disjointed, disorganized process which results in cold food and redos along with the the plastic picnicware, really takes away from being able to fully enjoy and appreciate their excellent food. The only other complaint is that the tables and the sauce containers never seem like they are completely clean. This little place needs to evolve and improve as they have become more popular. They need enthusiastic, adult servers, proper cutlery, and a sustainable service protocol that will keep them in business for years to come. The smell in the restaurant has improved since they opened - it was once so awful we really couldn't eat there. It's better now, but not fully resolved. The owners need to make whatever commitment is necessary to resolve it completely. El Amigo's tacos are second to none, but they need to invest in the business if it is to be sustained over time.

Yelp
To everyone who has said it's wrong to judge a book by its cover, you were right. Great tasting food with friendly service for an inexpensive price. Once seated you wouldn't even know you're in a former gas station. Very clever to have installed the bench along the outside wall of the back room.
