On the Grid : Tacos Y Mas

"Just a taco stand at an intersection with some seating built on the side...or so it would seem. However, Tacos Y Mas is pumping out some of the best breakfast (and non-breakfast) tacos in the city. And the Y Mas is great too." - Tractorbeam

The Best Breakfast Tacos and Burritos in Dallas | Eater Dallas

"Taco Bell executive-turned-taco vendor Mahbub Zaman began in South Dallas with a single steak fajita taco under a makeshift tent, cooked on a portable grill. He’s since expanded the menu to include tacos, burritos, and quesadillas. The Cowboy Taco features jalapeño sausage that is diced and griddled, resulting in crispy bites inside a fluffy tortilla. Topped with pico de gallo and shredded cheese, it perfectly embodies Tex-Mex." - Henry James Ferry

Google
The places was clean and smelled clean, the customer was good. My problem is with these Birria Taco they gave more cheese then meat, it’s like they only put the meat on the top so you can no it’s on there, every time I have had a Birria Taco it’s stuffed with meat and cheese for 25.00 what did I pay for a cheese taco. I wish I could give no stars

Google
I mixed up the location but decided to get food here anyway. I’m sad that I did bc this doesn’t taste great. I like authentic Mexican food. It just tasted old and the chips were stale.

Google
Starting to make this my main spot!!! I’ve been here 5 times, every time has been delicious and great servings, service is great and food is even better!!

Racks Up Entertainment & Promo, L.L.C.

Google
I’ve been to this place on a few occasions, and every time the tacos are never the same. There are days the Taco is perfect and there are days when the tacos aren’t so good. Today was such a disappointment, not only were my tacos not good, they got the order wrong. This is not a post to deter you away from going to this specific Tacos Y Mas location, but only to warn you to check your food every time and Do not let them get away with serving you a mediocre taco.

Ricardo Ramos-Hernandez

Google
Service was great, people always polite. The tacos weren't good. Flavor was bland and meat just taste a little bit off and not good at all. Sorry but I will definitely try to skip this place from now on. No I understand why the place was empty.

Google
Great food, at a great price. Can't wait to come back

Google
Great steak street tacos. The grande nachos are pretty good too. My only con is they have a $5 minimum for credit cards.

Google
The lady at the front was super rude we came an hour before close and she was acting like we came in 5 minutes before close. The food was terrible, we took it to go. She rushed us out and decided to lock the door after we left. 30 minutes before they were supposed to close.

Noemi L.

Yelp
Fantastic service and phenomenal food. We ordered breakfast tacos, a torta, and menudos. Everything was fresh and delicious, full of flavor. Definetly coming again whenever we visit Dallas.

Yelp
Great service, fast and friendly staff! Big tacos and good prices, assortment of sauces to try! I tried chips and salsa it was really good Best reccomendation order ahead and pick up and enjoy!

Yelp
Service, quick. Cashier was really friendly. Food came out within 6 minutes and was so fresh and flavorful. Pricing is amazing, very rare to find a taco spot under $2 a taco. This place is worth it!

Yuri S.

Yelp
Food is horrible blend order 5 tacos of steak and I don't know if they know what steak is but surely they don't food had no flavor the cilantro and onion combination was also horrible only 3 little pieces of cilantro all onion tortillas for the tacos not fresh at all the meat had no spices and the salsa not flavor at all 1st time and last time I eat there it was a very disappointing experience so not recommended to anybody
google avatar

Yelp
The ladies in here are very friendly and accommodating. They always have big smiles and are glad to see you. The food is good, and the atmosphere has plenty of positive energy.

Thomas C.

Yelp
Some of the most disgusting texmex I've ever eaten in Texas. Burnt tamales, weird tasting rice, wet tortillas and you could shingle a roof with the chips, all around horrible food
google avatar

Kathy L.

Yelp
Really good. Our favorite street taco place so far. Flavorful without being too salty. We've only gotten street tacos and a quesadilla but they were all good. It's a small little place with a tiny, crowded parking lot shared by the other establishments in the plaza so that can be a bit of a pain.

Yelp
In the midst of a cold snap I was jonesing for some queso but unwilling to venture out. I pulled up Grubhub and decided to order from Tacos y Mas. I was familiar with the chain's Greenville Ave location. This store is super close to my Lakewood Hills home. Chips and queso were only a bit more than $4. I also ordered the burrito plate. The descriptions on Grubhub are very spartan, so I wasn't even sure what kind of burrito I would get, but the price was right and I threw caution to the wind. When my food arrived, I was somewhat shocked to find a burrito that was bigger than my head! The plate included rice and beans and a crispy taco. The GIANT burrito turned out to be beef, with guacamole, rice, sour cream, cheese, lettuce and maybe even som Jalapeños. I could only eat the taco and about a third of the burrito, but I'm saving the rest for tomorrow. It was delicious and the taco was good too! The queso was great and a generous portion for the price. I have plenty of it leftover as well. I would highly recommend the burrito if you are looking for a meal to split between two people. For $13 I got enough food for more than two meals, and it was delicious!

Yelp
Tacos was absolutely amazing! The first restaurant we went too. Very flavorful and the sauces were amazing. Hate that i didnt get any pics! Street Tacos
google avatar

Yelp
Great steak street tacos. The grande nachos are pretty good too. My only con is they have a $5 minimum for credit cards.

Yelp
Good food. Small restaurant. Prices are fair and if busy parking is limited. But I will go again for sure!
google avatar

Gabby M.

Yelp
Rude employees. The pastor is like some weird shredded pork situation with no flavor. Nothing tastes fresh. The onions have no crunch or bite to it. Can't taste the cilantro at all either. The steak is shredded beef and heavily SALTED not SEASONED worth shit. Their red sauce is good but that's honestly about the only thing I like. Will not be back. Tacos at La Banqueta are 10 times better and like 40 cents cheaper at that!

Dominic A.

Yelp
Decent tacos at decent price. Got my food super quick. Did not like their salsas though, they are smooth not chunky. Also the credit card fee is shady, and I had to park illegally to walk in

Erika H.

Yelp
Location is in the heart of Dallas small place, but great food!! The Birria taco's are delicious!!

Bianqua H.

Yelp
The bessssst fish tacos in the city!! I always get the Veracruz. I highly suggest. The customer service is good and they're fast.
google avatar

Leticia R.

Yelp
The food is delicious! Truly stupendous, would definitely recommend. They have the best chorizo and eggs. You'll enjoy the handmade tortillas. Fast service and quality.

Skye S.

Yelp
Came here because my usual taco place was closed today. This place was very disappointing. Tortillas were obviously very old and stale, shrimp had literally no seasoning ,not even salt, and it was the most bland taco I've ever had. Also all the limes were super dry and not really usable. Overall just disappointing experience. Been to a different location before and I know it wasn't this bad. I won't ever be returning here
google avatar

Michael V.

Yelp
I can't speak to the other reviews but I just ate 3 tacos; chicken, barbacoa, and carnitas and they were all delicious. The chicken taco was a little dry but otherwise it was good. The barbacoa was amazing. I had 5 other people with me and they all said they would return. All I can say is roll the dice and try it. Just stick with the street tacos if you are worried about the hotdogs.
google avatar

Nicole C.

Yelp
worst tacos ive ever eaten tbh. never again. awful. horrible. the tortillas looked and felt like they were straight out the bag , they werent even warmed up or cooked on the comal . NOTHING. pastor meat was disgusting. idk what else to say but this place was awful.
google avatar

Jimmy Joe M.

Yelp
Great service fresh and delicious food i had fajita tacos and Chipotle chicken tostadas
google avatar

Fernando C.

Yelp
Almost forgot to mention the hot dog torta... I mean the "Cuban". Ugh, what a horrible concoction of pieces of meat and weiners, the wife took a bite and spit it out.
google avatar

Stacey C.

Yelp
The Big "D" breakfast burrito...now made with sliced hot dogs and french fries. I'm not even kidding. Also, there was no bacon. Again, HOT DOGS...french fries. Not exactly the bacon and potato I was expecting. My mind is blown and so is my $5.

Yelp
I was headed to McDonald's... If you ever see my car at Jack in the Box at 3am, rest assured I'm extremely intoxicated. If you see my car at Mickey's at 3pm, rest assured I'm extremely hungover. So, I was sitting at the light at E. Grand and Samuell when I thought to myself "how many bad choices can you make in a 24 hour period Mr. Dougie-poo?" I noticed that El Taco Loco was opened and busted a u. I couldn't find a spot so I cruised on down and saw Tacos y Mas. I park in front of Family Dollar and walk on over. I ordered my pollo, barbacoa and pastor, planning to go back to the crib, sip on my hair of the dog and munch my tacos, when a couple of characters rolled up. Since the outdoor sitting area is better than the one on Ross I decided to enjoy my tacos right there on this bleak, misty, Sunday afternoon. The hair of the dog that bit me on the ass can literally chill till I get back. I sat there and watched a young Mexican girl in a trucker hat convo, with who was probably her grandmother, and two dudes take turns punching each other in the stomach. I guess what I'm saying is they have decent tacos and free entertainment... every time. Oh, and that hairy freakin dog told me to write this review... sorry.

Yelp
I must say that my dear mistress to Fuel City has been lacking in her ability to please me, and now we must part ways. Our fallout started by my own ignorance of the Spanish language, I wanted to experience what I thought would be shrimp tacos after a late night of drinking so I proceeded to order 4 chicharrón tacos. Well of course to my surprise I was greeted with four little tacos filled with what appeared to be boiled pork rinds. Somehow I confused chicharrón for camarón. So I took an L for that visit. But over the next couple of visits it seems that I was more and more unable to distinguish the flavors between their beef and al pastor tacos. The al pastor is my favorite and should be spicy in my opinion, and ummm you know made with pork not beef. While standing at the window I've noticed huge pots of boiling meats, which is not normally a good sign. Boiling loses flavor people! With this said, I can no longer lower my expectations and must rekindle the flame with Fuel City tacos and the elotes in the cup is the icing on the cake.
google avatar

Yelp
Just came back from lunch, and figured I'd write my review now rather than later because these tacos weren't the memorable kind. They weren't bad either but I expected better. Definitely good tacos after a night out at the club, when your tastebuds are shot from so much alcohol.

Yelp
This place is kinda hit or miss. So don't give up on it if you go and dont like something. I've tried their tacos and depending on what the filling is it ill be delish or :( It's a little hole in the wall not in the best part of town right off the freeway and its open late. I like that their stuff is authentic mexican food. They are really inexpensive and i may suggest that the TORTAS are always great

Yelp
This was my third trip to this Tacos Y Mas location, and I will not be back. This afternoon I wanted to order from the "special" taco menu - the ones that come with grilled veggies and additional sauces. The man in the window was incredibly rude, and did not listen to my order, instead he forced me to order from the written menu taped to the window (the simple street tacos) which I have had before. I wanted something different tonight. Not sure if he was feigning not understand me, or if he just didn't want to take my order. I ended up with four tiny and greasy street tacos, exactly what I didn't want. The shrimp smelled like dirt, so that one went to the trash. The barbacoa was the best of the four. I also wanted a side of queso - you know, the usual queso that comes with the chips, salsa, and queso deal - but he looked confused and asked "shredded or liquid?" The queso they serve at this location seems to be made from cheese powder and chicken stock, and is as congealed as jello. Pretty gross - and nothing like the delicious queso I had a the Greenville Ave location.

Yelp
I moved into the neighborhood around this place a couple of years back, but have been reluctant to trying it out. Today was the DAY! Now listen here...I love me some tacos. MEXICAN STREET TACOS. Not that crap you get at Taco Bell. I ordered a Beef Fajita, a Babacoa, and a Carnitas street taco. Came to about $6. I would order the Barbacoa again, but the gem was the Carnitas. I could have had a whole plate of that stuff. The fajita, meh. These are great tacos, comes with some onion and cilantro on them. That's it. No Mas. So maybe order 4 instead of 3 and stay away from the salsa...too damn salty. I would go back...but it's not like I am going to be craving these tacos.

Yelp
A fish taco on a corn tortilla and a large Horchata. So simple, but yet so good. They are Tacos Y Mas are usually small places, but they can serve up a mean meal. Seating is not the highest priority (outside seating.and just as tonight it always seems to be cold when I visit here, so I will be eating in my truck. So I give it 3 stars because of seating and usually the a few unfortunate people who will ask for money. Though tonight is a black cat who is cold and crying. But it's lucky tonight because I bought it a fish taco too.

Yelp
This place has gone totally downhill the quality and service was better when it was a tent in the parking lot . I asked for 2 coffees with our breakfast tacos they bring us lukewarm water and instant coffee for us to mix ourselves the tacos were just ok not great chorizo was flavorless the beef steak and egg was ok but ,I will go to Ross location from now on at least they are consistent.
google avatar

Daisy F.

Yelp
I came in today on a taco crave and I was kinda dissaponted. The guy at the counter was really rude and the combo taco plate that I got was small I got 3 tiny tacos and a measly side of rice and beans. The beans tasted like canned beans and the rice was tasteless. For 4 o'clock in the afternoon this place was empty and I understand why. I won't be back again.

Yelp
Price: Not great, Tacos: Suck If you're really hungry and buzzed up....dont even stop here like I did on NewYrs. They seem to really chop up their meat to make you believe its fresh but real taco lover's will know better. The tortillas or meat (I chose fajita cause you should never be able to go wrong with fajita tacos from anywhere-right?) Wrong. No flavor with tortillas or meat. i tried to save my hunger by squeezing lemon onto my tacos but to no succes. i shouldve just gone to jack in the Box. Take it from me as I use to live in the neighborhood & decided to give them the benefit of the doubt after 3 years but dont waste your time--- especially if like your tacos hispanic or mexican owned, and this place is neither!
google avatar

Emmie W.

Yelp
I have been to multiple locations and the food is always great. I love the chipotle chicken. Overall the service is good for a quick service style restaurant. They are always very friendly and helpful.
google avatar

Cyndi D.

Yelp
Fuel City is good but it is a hike from East Dallas, if you just want to grab some tacos and head home. This is my new go-to! The carnitas and the pastor tacos were both excellent. The only complaint? Dried up limes were all show and no juice.
google avatar

Jimmy L.

Yelp
I love this place especially if your hung over I really have only had the Torta but its delicious, The staff use to be really good the last time I went it was kind of a beating to get my order right, but the taste was worth the argument.
google avatar

Bryn B.

Yelp
Good, real mexican tacos. I have only had their breakfast tacos, which are amazing! If you can't handle spicy food be careful with the sauce. I love the chorizo tacos. Full of season and pico and awesomeness in your mouth! You can get a box for $14 with 12 tacos. It does take a while so don't be in a hurry any where if you come here. The location at Forrest is a lot better and has more options!
google avatar

Nadia G.

Yelp
OMG!! D Magazine was right! These are the best breakfast tacos I have ever had. I was driving pass the taco stand and saw a line of people outside at 8AM on a Friday morning. I decided to stop and I am so glad that I did. I got two chorizo and egg breakfast tacos and they were sooo good. It came with cheese, pico and salsa verde, which was really spicy and just how I like it. I will definitely be back for more breakfast tacos, which were only $1.39 per taco.

Yelp
Although nothing can ever replace the fresh caught fish fried nearly instantly off the coast of Ensenada, Baja California these grilled fish tacos are very tasty indeed. The fish itself came out late flaky very tasty with a very healthy portion. Although there wasn't as much zip in terms of sauce and tang they did provide fresh limes to add necessary seasoning. The food is made with decent care and attention and the salsa is very fresh. The steak burrito was very flavorful but didn't include any guacamole nor sliced avocado which I find slightly disappointing. They do loaded up with plenty of food to make an entire meal. While I was sitting at the restaurant there was a consistent flow of customers, So that their food turnover appears to be very good allowing for fresh ingredients. In watching the preparation through the window I saw no cans in use in the preparation of any of my meal. This appears to be a good place at a reasonable price under $10 for a fish taco, steak burrito and can of Diet Coke.
google avatar

John H.

Yelp
I like this place the food is about average nothing really special but its cheap and great to soak up all the alcohol.
google avatar

K. B.

Yelp
Rice has green beans & peas in it and the pastor is NOT spicy. My boyfriend LOVED the mahimahi tacos & what I tried was way better than mine. All & all it was just fine but I like my pastor hot!

Erica H.

Yelp
The Nastiest place ever... The fattiest, grossest Barbacoa I can't begin to complain. First if all, barbacoa burrito does not have rice beans and lettuce!! The rudest little Mexican ladies ever.. Waist of money and calories..

Will G.

Yelp
I go here probably twice a month usually for breakfast some times lunch. I have been here in the evening & the older guy is very impatient & not friendly that's the only negative because the ladies that work in the morning & afternoon are awesome great attitudes, pretty smiles and good food.
google avatar

Yelp
I was happy to find a Tacos y Mas in my neighborhood, especially with better prices than the Ross location. Sadly, in this case you get what you pay for. On a previous visit the red salsa was rancid. Today I had the Cubana sandwich. I recognize that this is Cuban and not Mexican fare, but this was awful: a shaved thin slice of ham, with lengthwise-sliced cheap hot-dogs mashed in, lumps of chicken thrown in randomly on one side of the sandwich, avocado slices, mayo, and no mustard or peppers. If you're going to serve an item, do it right. Don't try to pass off the Zappa Burnt Weenie Sandwich as a Cuban. I would have given them one star but the guy who served me this abomination was very pleasant.

Luke S.

Yelp
Best breakfast tacos in Dallas? Really? I haven't had many breakfast tacos in Dallas but I have had my fair share elsewhere. If this is the best Dallas has to offer then I dont want to try any others. Tacos were small and lacking in flavor. I wish I had gone just down the street to Taco Cabana.

Mary S.

Yelp
They messed up my order and would not fix it. I asked for chicken and got beef and then the girl shows me what she wrote down yet my friend agreed I said chicken but hey it just means I won't come back. The food was not good, service was slow and I think the price of what I ordered was to high. I like to give small businesses a chance but this place could care less about my business, the quality of food etc. Lots of other places in the area to choose from but truly PASS on this one.

Sheryl M.

Yelp
I finally used my LivingSocial coupon and it was a big disappointment. I ordered #1 and the beef in the flour tortillas was very dry. The guacamole was too spicey for my tender mouth. The best part of my meal was the pink lemonade. Not impressed. I went to the Forest Lane location.

James R.

Yelp
Expensive for what you get! No advertising for debit or credit cards. This location sucks!

Edge S.

Yelp
Called today to place an order and the man literally had to ask me for my order three times before he got it right. I don't know if he was trying to memorize the order or not. After I arrived, I picked up my order and went home to eat my tacos. They were very well below average! Not going there anymore.

Marisa R.

Yelp
WORSE CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER!! I went and placed an order of 6 tacos and a mendo for 2 of my daughter's, when the order was ready the girl called for me and I specifically asked her if she was sure that everything was in the bag. She barely looked up at me and kind of blew me off and said yes and I asked her again are you sure everything's in the bag and she again responded "Yes!" To make a long story even longer when I got home I check the bag and I was missing my daughter's three tacos I decided to call and talk to the manager to complain but when I call a girl answers the phone and I explained what happened and she proceeded to tell me that why was I calling and making a big deal about 3 tacos when there are people in the world that are starving and I'm making a big deal over nothing! I told her that when a customer calls to complain she should be apologizing not telling me about starving people!!! Apparently the manager wasn't there which I find that hard to believe since I could hear her talking to someone in the background! The food at this particular Tacos Y Mas is NOT good, please don't give this place buisness because the people here obviously don't care about their customers!
