San Diego’s Best Vegan and Vegetarian Restaurants | Eater San Diego

"There’s no such thing as too many tacos — especially vegan ones that make their meat counterparts seem irrelevant. Expanded from Las Vegas in 2022, this North Park hotspot serves homemade seitan al pastor and mushrooms asada tacos folded into supple corn tortillas. The menu also offers flautas, burritos, and quesadillas plus margaritas (or aguas frescas) to top off a meal." - Kelly Bone

19 Vegan Tacos To Try in San Diego

"On the edge of a Target parking lot a white food truck bluntly states “Vegan Tacos.” Although they carry more than tacos (like the notable tortas), they are San Diego’s the main source of vegan birria—a spiced stew stringy with enoki mushrooms—tacos. The classic asada taco comes with minced soy meat under cilantro and guacamole while their most popular taco, the Ensenada, arrives with battered and fried portabellos under purple cabbage and chipotle mayo." - Kelly Bone

Tacotarian Conveys Vegan Tacos From Las Vegas to North Park - Eater San Diego

"Hailing from Las Vegas, where it’s been named one of the town’s top taco shops, Tacotarian is now serving its popular vegan tacos in North Park in the former Chicago Not Dogs space. This is the fifth location for the company, with the San Diego branch marking its first in California. Founded four years ago by Dan and Regina Simmons and Carlos and Kristen Corral after the couples were inspired by a trip to Regina’s hometown of Mexico City, Tacotarian serves a menu that revolves around vegan versions of classic Mexican dishes, ranging from mushroom asada and seitan al pastor to ripe plantains in mole with pickled red onions, sesame, and crema. The selection also goes beyond tacos too, with options like the Cali burrito, Takis elote, and cauliflower ceviche. Open daily from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., the restaurant and bar also offers margaritas, agua frescas, and horchata iced coffee as well as desserts such as rice and coconut milk-based arroz con leche and deep-fried oreos. Fans of its existing locations can expect the same experience in San Diego, as managers Tom McGowan and Andres Castillo are partners in the North Park outpost and have relocated from Vegas to run the restaurant. The employee equity model is something that the company hopes to continue to grow as a way to uplift employees and give them opportunities for ownership as the brand expands. Tacotarian tells Eater that while it doesn’t have immediate plans for additional stores, it’s hoping to grow its presence in Southern California and the San Diego area." - Kelly Bone

Google
Stopped in Tacotarian today for the first time and tried a few of their tacos, I highly recommend their Plantain Mole taco, super delicious and flavorful. I think three tacos is the right amount for lunch. The chips and salsa was good too, the salsa was especially delicious. Service was very attentive. I’ll definitely be back.

Had a pretty enjoyable meal. Of the three tacos, my partner enjoyed the Baja while I favored the Chorizo. The Takis Elote wasn't either of our favorites. A little spicy for him, a little... Wet... For me. The crunch wrap was MUCH bigger than we expected. We honestly didn't need all three tacos and the appetizers with it. Maybe a that plus a taco each. Or a taco and an appetizer. Pretty filling. Definitely get some salsa/hot sauce to top it with. Partner liked his margarita. My horchata was a bit on the sweet side for me. Overall, very delicious meal!

Google
Tasty, interesting dishes with variety of sauces and spices. The platters let you experience different flavors which is fun. Tasty house made drinks, definitely recommend trying them with your meal. Sandwich was good, but had a bit too much going on at once, so it was hard to tell what I was supposed to taste. One of the tacos had mushroom meat that was a bit stringy and hard for the kids to eat.

Google
So far best vegan vegetarian Mexican food spot around! We are locals of Los Angeles and try new flavors vegan and vegetarian.. Tacotarian brings great flavors in their sauces.. using spices that keep the authentic flavors in a plant based diet! Spot is located in a on the go spot in North Park! Beans , rice, sauces, on point! We enjoyed the taco plate and enchilada plate!

Google
This was a cool find in San Diego. Be careful because google maps tells you it’s down the street. Horchata and Jamaica were excellent! We ordered the birria plate. The consome was good and overall a good value for the price. The tacos were a bit more cheesy than we like. We also got the hard shell taco. That was a hit. The avocado taco wasn’t great. Carne asada fries were good and had tons of guacamole on them! Overall we’d definitely go back. Great service and atmosphere.

Google
Great food and staff! Thanks for creating such a beautiful space for vegans to have a tasty meal. I had the Gabacho and Nachos with veggies. I got the coconut cake to go. So excited to try it!

Google
All the tacos we tried were delicious. The green and red sauces were full of flavor with the right amount of heat. Perfect compliment to the tacos. My favorite is the fish filet taco and plantain with mole sauce. Fish was lightly battered and fried, and the vegan fish was amazingly moist. Services was quick and the staff was friendly.

Google
Wow, their Tacos al Pastor and Asada were fantastic. Good service in a fast casual style that was both fast and affordable. Highly recommend to Vegans and friends alike.

Yelp
I absolutely love Tacotarian! This place is a true gem, especially for vegans. There really need to be more spots like this. Mexican food is my favorite, and taco shops are one thing I truly missed after making the lifestyle change. I come here all the time, and my go-to is the chilaquiles for breakfast with carne asada. That said, everything here is fantastic, and don't forget to try the horchata, just be sure not to drink it all before your food arrives! I'm also a huge fan of the Quesa Birria, though a small tip for the cooks: please heat up the consommé a bit more. I'll definitely keep coming back, and a big thanks to the owners and staff for bringing such good food and great vibes to the neighborhood!

Yelp
Stopped by this place when I was heading back home and got hungry. The place is very spacious and clean, and the prices are decent. I'm giving it 3 stars because the tacos have way too much garnish! the al pastor had very little meat and about 3/4 of pineapple, the potato one had so much lettuce and cheese that I didn't even tasted any potatoes and it fell apart within the first bite (they over fried the tortilla and with the weight and wetness of the garnishes it broke). The chicken milanesa one had a little piece of chicken and no milanesa in sight. You can see by the pic I took how big and vast they look, unfortunately, is mainly cheese, crema, and lettuce. Un buen taco debe de ser mitad carnita, un cuarto de guarnición, y poco espacio libre para la salsa y para que aguante el peso la tortilla.

Yelp
While visiting North Park, we decided to drop on by to check out the place. The restaurant itself is pretty aesthetically pleasing and the service was extremely attentive. You order up front at the counter and they will bring the food to you. We got the Breakfast Taco, Carne Asada Taco, and the Super Taco. I thought the breakfast taco was definitely the best out of the three. The potatoes were very crispy and blended well with the sauce. However, the carne asada and the super taco weren't anything to write home about and definitely not as worth getting.

Yelp
I can't believe the last time I came here was 2 years ago. Tacotarian is definitely one of my favorite Mexican vegan spots! CARNEASDA BURRITO: So good. My husband, who gets Mexican food / carneasda burritos weekly, said he couldn't even tell this was vegan. BIRRIRA PLATTER: This comes with 4 tacos, the tacos were a little small but great for sharing if you wanna try different items on the menu.

Yelp
Today tried the Asada Fries & mom got her usual fish taco. I have to say the food is really tasty & you'd never know the dishes are plant based, no real meat. The Asada Fries were delicious and the fish taco. Service was pleasant & I didn't have to wait long to order & was less than 10 minutes to prepare. There are two sides for seating the bar area is open & breezy wall/bar high chair seating & seats at the bar. And more tables are available on the opposite side that is not opened to the outside so less breeze. There is parking in entrance from alley off Meade or Kansas street. And limited street parking if you're lucky. Entrance from 30th street & also from the parking lot. Prices are pretty reasonable & some items comparable to regular Latin food shops but the fries $13.99 were half the size of those spots with meat. But definitely filling. Tacos are similar & actually $1 or so less. So I recommend Tacotarian for healthier options. Tacotarian is Latin & women owned & started in Las Vegas & there they have several different locations. It's one of my aunts favorite places when she visits Vegas. So she was extremely excited to come visit her sister & find this gem below the apts she lives in.

Yelp
I've visited one of the Vegas locations a few times and was excited to visit their SD location, it was just as good! I tried their Mexican pizza. I imagined it would be about the size of the Taco Bell one, but it wasn't, this one is huge! It's about the size of a medium pizza. Their enchiladas were tasty, but cold on the inside. At tacotarian you order at the counter, you're given a number and they bring your food out. It's super casual ambiance and service, with very tasty food.

Yelp
The drill is order at the counter and food is brought out in simple dining yet sufficient ambiance. Friendly staff. Infused water. I went with the taco platter which comes with three tacos and a side salad with beans and rice. I went with the veggie- mashed potato, mushroom, onion, roasted poblano pepper, corn, garlic, lettuce, cilantro lime dressing, and pico, carne asada- seitan, guacamole, pico, and queso fresco, and mushroom asada- portobello, chili powder, onion, and cilantro. All in all, they were tasty and nourishing. Recommended!

Yelp
I ordered the taco platter with two al pastor tacos and a mushroom asada taco. Service was quick and the server Anthony was super friendly in answering my questions. This place is fully plant-based! I probably would have ordered differently if I knew the Queso Fresco was plant-based. On that topic, the Queso Fresco was super convincing. The Al Pastor tacos were meaty but not as seasoned as I would have liked. Nothing that their habanero salsa couldn't fix (great salsa)! Mushroom asada taco was fairly basic, great texture but again on the lighter side for seasoning. The restaurant was beautiful, the walls adorned with a whole array of taco-related slogans. Will definitely be back!

Yelp
I really hate to leave such negative reviews for vegan spots because they're struggling and I hate to turn anyone away from eating at a plant based restaurant. However, I would be lying if I said I recommend this spot after eating here today. Let me start by saying We had been looking forward to eating here for the first time. We had a day trip planned to San Diego from the inland empire (2 hour drive one way) I went with my husband and little one around 3:30 today, Wednesday. There were only a couple people sitting at the bar, otherwise the restaurant was totally empty. We were greeted kindly, explained the menu, and how to order, no issues. We ordered: *chicken enchiladas with green sauce *side of rice *taco platter (asada) *taco platter trio (assorted "meats") to go, but ordered all at once. *piña agua fresca *horchata *chips and salsa *gardein strips with fries off the kids menu With a 20% tip the total was $100. (You pay before receiving the food) I ordered, went to wash my hands in the restroom, not a few mins later I came back to our table and allll the food was being served already. Less than 10 mins, maybe 5 mins honestly. That to me was a red flag because it clearly showed that our food we were about to eat probably wasn't made fresh. I've never received food that fast from a sit down restaurant before. Ever. I tried the rice first, and there was sadly no flavor. I tasted nothing.. just bland.. On top of that, it was ice cold. I mean COLD. The beans were also just as cold. I made a note to let our server know and tried my "enchiladas". I'm going to try to say this nicely but there was no flavor, and the filling is mashed potato, with a frozen (whole) gardein strip shoved into a rolled tortilla. Even with the sauce and crema on top, I couldn't taste any distinctive flavors. It was also lukewarm at best. Within minutes my entire plate was totally cold. I let our server know about the rice and beans and he offered to bring me new sides that he'd make sure were extra hot. He brought them back within a minute and yes it was very hot. The whole container felt like it just came out of a microwave. My husband's food was also cold and said the asada tacos had no flavor. He forced himself to eat since we had a 2.5 hour drive back home and needed fuel. I unfortunately could not eat my food as it was that bad/cold and asked for to go boxes. Our original server and the bartender left so two new people were on their shift, they asked how our meal was and I just couldn't lie to them.. I was so disappointed with our experience, I kindly let them know about the food temp, and that it was weird how quickly the food came out.. they were both very kind and apologized for our experience, and offered to remove the items from our bill. I appreciated that. I was really sad to leave still hungry, and that we had been looking forward to trying this place for some time, but was hoping that the food we took to go (which were for other family members at home) would be better and they would at least like their food. I'm sad to say that they also did not like their taco platter.. we've been vegan for 5 years now and have tried quite a lot of places, and even when the food has been not so great, they've eaten it anyway. This time they said they just couldn't do it, it was that bad.. Unfortunately this was a really disappointing experience and we won't be returning. Even with the refund for partial items, we spent over $50 on the rest of the food and none of it was worth eating.. just a total waste of money and time..

Yelp
We had family in town who are vegetarians and wanted some Mexican food. Ended up at Tacotarian after reading the reviews. However our experience was not great! First of all - the person taking the order at the counter was on a call with a customer and I took 20 minutes to place the order which I get it since she was on a call but it was definitely annoying to wait that long. There was a lady server and she was hyper and just loud and stressed, the food was very mediocre- we for tortilla soup and it was filled with way too many tortilla strips such that you could barely taste the soup. The flautas lacked any flavor and the tacos were just ok. I was looking forward to this place but definitely will not be returning.

Yelp
Excellent service! Good vibes, a cute little date spot in north park. The tacos were pretty good. I definitely want to try different ones next time. However, I recommend the salsa verde. Sooo good!
google avatar

Pritam B.

Yelp
This place was recommended by one of our vegan friends. Went there and had some awesome food. They allow dogs inside, so that was a bonus. Took my nonvegan friend and he mentioned that he would be easily fooled by the food. They also have great cocktails and beers. Overall great experience and food.

Yelp
FULLY VEGAN SPOT! The food is Ah-May-ZING!!!!!!! The service was so good! You order at the front then go sit down and they bring the food to you. The vibe was very open natural plants everywhere merch in the front and a WHOLE lot of natural lighting. It was great! What we ordered: Guacamole and Salsa with chips- they were great the guac was cold and refreshing, if you don't like onions this isn't your type of guac. But it was great! Salsa was really good. Birra combo plate. - comes with 4 birra tacos and consume . It was a little spicy but not so spicy it wasn't good Taquitos plate : came with rice and beans . The rice and beans were SO good .

Yelp
Great plant-based restaurant. Came here the first time for lunch and ordered several items including the asada fries, flautas, and birria tacos. The second time, met up with more people and ordered the same things and more (taco sampler). We enjoyed everything, from service to presentation. There is a well-ventilated bar area and a larger indoor dining space further in. Street parking may be challenging in this area depending on the time of day. Also, the name (love it) is featured on their own merchandise wall near the register. Looking forward to coming back and trying more from the menu, we are tacotarians after all!
google avatar

Dijana J.

Yelp
This was such a great stop in SD, and it will definitely be my go-to when I visit next time. Delicious plant-based options, with both brunch and lunch menus available, a great drink selection, and beautiful ambiance.

Shaine S.

Yelp
This place is amazing. The food is good, atmosphere is fun and chill. I've been to the one in Vegas as well and I've always had a good experience. But the experience I had at this location was phenomenal because of the service. Anthony crushed it. He had great recommendations and was so friendly. He was also busting his a$$ bouncing around, like literally running around helping everyone. I work in the restaurant industry and I could really appreciate his hospitality and quickness. Also out of all the times I've been to both Tacotarian locations I've never had someone come check back up to see if we need anything else and Anthony did he's an angel. If you're going to get anything here food wise ya better get fish tacos, cauliflower ceviche and alote!
google avatar

Reese J.

Yelp
Parking for Tacotarian is street parking. Love that the restaurant is open and has plenty of seating indoor. Customer service had great vibes, nice attitude. Their menu is definitely fusion, not your street taco kind of place. My carne asada taco, al pastor taco and takis elote were okay. Nothing I would crave.
google avatar

Paul K.

Yelp
Got 9 tacos and chips and guacamole with two friends. Liked the texture of our tacos, but flavor was low. (Even chips and guacamole were pretty bland. Nice space, much larger than we expected, and good service.
google avatar

Jay S.

Yelp
I'm being a little generous with the review because I didn't try a ton of their items and I know a lot of my friends enjoy it. I'll start off by saying the Al Pastor tacos were very good! However, the veggie taco lacked any real flavor, and the avocado tacos (which also had guacamole) were a bit one dimensional in flavor as well. The service was fast and nice, the ambiance is pretty cool too. I think the best tacos to try (based on reviews/recommendations) are the Al Pastor, Carne Asada, and Fish tacos (next time I would try these). 5/5 - Al Pastor Taco 2/5 - Veggie Taco 3/5 - Fried Avocado Taco Food: 3.33/5 Service: 4/5 Ambiance: 4/5 Value: 3/5 Overall: 3.5/5
google avatar

Amanda P.

Yelp
The salsa is the smoked kind that is so savory and not too hot. Seriously, so good! The service brought the food out really quickly - even for pick up! That taco platter was enough food to fill you up for sure! Would highly recommend l! The vibe of the place is casual and friendly. Just don't arrive too late because we were turned away before when we arrived close to closing. So glad this place was worth the wait.
google avatar

Karolina N.

Yelp
Two words: Giant Taco. Get one and thank me later. Tacotarian has been on my list for a while, though I was expecting to visit the LV locations before SD - but as it happened we were on a road trip and the opportunity presented itself. We placed a pickup order that was extremely speedy. Tried out 4 regular tacos and the Giant Taco with carne asada. I love finding unique options like this - where else can one get a giant vegan taco?! It was outstanding and comes with "French fries, choice of "meat", refried beans, house nacho cheese, lettuce, guac, pico, crema, salsa morita". I enjoyed every single filling we got: fish taco (probably my favorite), mushroom asada, gabacho, chorizo, and carne asada - would get any of those again.
google avatar

Yelp
As a vegetarian I'm always on the hunt for a new plant based spot to try. I really liked this spot and would definitely go back. The tacos were great and super flavorful -- so important for plant based meats. The margaritas were really sweet and I couldn't really sense the alcohol but still very delicious. Will definitely be adding this to my rotation staff was also very friendly!
google avatar

Courtney O.

Yelp
Meat-eaters, don't be afraid to enjoy a vegan meal at Tacotarian. Some of the most tasty and flavorful tacos I've had. There's parking in the back if you drive on Kansas St, which takes away the barrier of a North Park restaurant. On Taco Tuesday, the $3.99 tacos go down to $3. Great price. The tacos are so good. I really enjoyed the plantain with mole tacos and the al pastor. The medium salsa was also spicy but so delicious. The only sad thing is that I ordered some tacos to go because of how good they were, but when I got home, I was missing one of them! So sad, because of how tasty they are!
google avatar

Cheryl B.

Yelp
OMG so good. Order at the counter then take a number to your seat. Yummy inventive Mexican food will soon arrive to your table. I would come back next time I'm in town.
google avatar

Stacie M.

Yelp
Amazing vegetarian dinner tonight at Tacotarian. I got 3 tacos a la cart. The carne asada was my favorite, the fried avocado was good but probably would try something else next time. You order at the counter and then there's plenty of seating, and they bring the food out to you. The food came out super fast, probably less than 10 minutes. It's easy and casual (we came right after run club and didn't feel out of place). I want to go back and try the rest of the menu!!
google avatar

Rachael H.

Yelp
The ambiance of the place is super cute, trendy, efficient and well decorated. The soap was out in one of the bathrooms when I went, but they were clean. The food itself was okay, but I think it was a matter of what I ordered as the cali burrito fell apart when I first started eating it because there was so much sauce inside--I do wish it was more dry so that I could taste the flavors more of the individual components since I just only tasted the sauce, which was good but was more like a wet burrito than a dry one. My friends got the tacos though which looked better, so I'd recommend that over the burrito maybe? The churros were really yummy, and the service was really attentive and quick.
google avatar

Joe C.

Yelp
Food was not appetizing at all. Especially not the dessert. Tacos were just frozen strips on a tortilla basically. Service wise half the staff was super nice the other half no comment. Wouldn't go there again or recommend. There's other vegan places nearby like bistro, the village and even Bahn tai (tofu options), even a customized order from Taco Bell is better geez. Not trying to bash I want them to succeed but that's my take
google avatar

Derreck C.

Yelp
I got to try some of their stuff to go. They had a lot of different options which I appreciate. I got the taco platter and crunchwrap. For the tacos I got barbacoa, mushroom asada, and al pastor. The platter was very mid to me. None of the tacos stood out to me but they weren't necessarily bad. The crunchwrap I got was birria and I felt a bit disappointed. I felt like my crunchwrap was missing a lot of birria. I think if you're looking for a Mexican style restaurant that has a different take on their dishes then this place would be fine. You can definitely tell this place is vegan/vegetarian, but I really don't get authentic Mexican taste from their food.

Peter P.

Yelp
Chef excels with excellence here! Chef is good guy, who has served some best tacos! My fav is Chorizo &Gabacho. Super Taco is fire too! Place is very nice they all do great job.

Yelp
Solid 4.7 Food 9/10. Many options and they taste great!! Service 9/10 very friendly and lively staff. They were helpful and welcoming. Ambiance 9/10. Lots of seating, spacious. Well decorated and lively environment inside. Would definitely recommend, will stop by if I visit San Diego again

Mateo C.

Yelp
Excellence is self evident...and is what I found here. I ordered delivery, and yet the quality of the food and its preparation, coupled with the very thoughtful packaging delivered quality that I truly enjoyed!!
google avatar

Zenobia B.

Yelp
The food tasted so good and I loved the cashier who gave good advice about what to order! Taco platter/plate where you get to choose which three tacos you want. I got the barbacoa, potato (can't remember their name for it), and carne asada. All were good! You also get two salsas for your meal and can choose from different spice levels. We also got babacoa nachos, barbacoa fries, and their margaritas.

Yelp
One of my go to places in SD! I feel like I've been to every vegan restaurant that was located at this spot and this place has been the best! My favorites are the Crunchwrap, veggie and dorado tacos, that burger (they had for a month that I miss dearly tbh), agua the piña, and actually a few more but not gonna bore yall. I love that they have mock meat options and veggie options so you don't HAVE to eat the mock meat if thats not what you're into, and I've loved both personally. The owners are ABSOLUTELY SUPER AMAZING AND SWEET. They go above and beyond and I'm always grateful being here and the foods come out pretty quickly for me. If you're not convinced that this is a place you should try, just know that my husband and I brought our family and friends here after our civil ceremony and wanted to share the bomb ass food here! 100000% recommend What I will say is that their salsas although amazing to me never REALLY go by their hotness scale I've had a mild tasting spicer than their hot O___o which luckily for me I can handle but I can see it being a problem for those who can't tolerate spicy food. And if you REALLY want my least favorite dish it would be the elote, maybe I'm just a creature of habit to the escites that I make at home. My sister tried the elote and she really liked it!

Michael M.

Yelp
Great food, really super nice people! Tasty Margaritas! And awesome craft beers! Definitely Recommend! Can't beat this place!!!

Yelp
Great food. Ate at the bar and ordered nachos and the taco platter. Bar is cute with nice decor and laid back. Service was A++++. They were all super sweet, patient and helpful. Carne Asada is my favorite protein. The rest are okay but not for me even though popular. Lemonade and Horchata are delicious.

Yelp
Did management or ownership change????? First two times about a year ago was pleasant....food was good, fresh, and appealing. We went few weeks ago, Service was mediocre. One employee was on break and blasting some video on speaker. She looked at us , knowing that the volume and content was annoying, and continued to take her break there. Tacos were soggy and lacking mostly the fresh ingredients, like salsa and cilantro. Instead only packaged siracha was available. What a disappointment
google avatar

Sarai S.

Yelp
Really wanted to check out this place seen it on Instagram. I finally made it in to try the birria empeñadas because i love vegan birria tacos. I had it many times at other vegan places so I was excited to try it . Overall the taste wasn't overwhelming. The consome was watered down . The broth didn't taste as rich or flavorful as I'm used to. Could use a lot more flavor and cilantro. The agua frescas were amazing ! The guac was alright just wished we had a bigger serving it's only about a 6oz small cup of guac for 10$ so a bit pricey on that but overall a cute place to get lunch and the staff was helpful and quick to get me my food on a weekend. Will be back to try the other regular menu items !

Arashpreet G.

Yelp
They were so nice! The person who took my order was so patient with me and gave great recommendations!! As a vegetarian (and a picky one at that), it's rare that I find a menu with too many options to choose from. I got the taco platter with the beans and cheese, veggie taco, and dorado taco which came with rice, beans, and a salad. And the chips and guac. The guac hit all the spots I look for in a good guac- chips would have been better warm/ hot but still crunchy and perfect salty. The tacos were bomb- I loved the veggie and bean and cheese. The dorado was okay but when I hit a bite of potato and fried taco- it tasted like oil more than anything else. But if I look past that one bite- phenomenal food!! I also love this place- there's a side with the window open so you get a nice breeze and one side closed off for those that run cold. Great for all kinds of hangouts, imo!

Yo a few of these tacos could of fooled me into thinking they were really meat. And I'm fasho not vegan. Mushroom asada and carne asada tacos were really good. I would pass on the al pastor though. But let me tell you, the quesabirria taco set was point. Consommé and all. Give em a try if you get the chance.

Yelp
I ordered the nachos, I was prompt at pick up flavor was on point but they were so soggy and not many chips. I also ordered a side of refried beans and a few slices of avocado. The beans tasted healthy but not necessarily homemade. I would come here again and try more things on the menu.

Yelp
Where's the beef? It's definitely not here, but the food was still very good. The three taco platter with rice, beans and a salad is a lot of food. I selected the barbacoa, veggie and chorizo tacos. The barbacoa with chili braised jackfruit was my favorite. It was meaty with a subtle sweet/savory flavor. The soy chorizo tacos had a more spicier flavor. I steered away from the fake meat products (beyond chicken, etc) because I'd rather have the real thing. The tamarindo margarita was a perfect blend of tangy, sweet and sour. It was refreshing and not boozy. Service was friendly and quick. The restaurant had a modern and bright ambiance that was casual and comfortable.

Yelp
I have been here at least three times and have always enjoyed my meal. The margaritas are tasty and the tacos are enjoyable. I will be back again next time I'm in San Diego.

Yelp
Love tacotarian I always come here when I'm in the area. ALL the food is good my favorite is the chorizo taco and the Birria tacos, the nachos are great. The service is good and they are very good with questions. The ambiance is classic art deco. Make sure you get the horchata also

Yelp
We loved this place! Out of the three tacos we tried, the Al Pastor tacos stood out with their perfect balance of pineapple and salsa. The asada fries were delicious, though the texture of the faux meat was a bit soft. The true star of the show was the Takis elote; we loved it so much that we ordered more to-go. The service was excellent, and the atmosphere is casual yet trendy. This is a fantastic spot for vegetarians and vegans.

Yelp
Was down in San Diego for vacation.it is great to find vegetarian options for Mexican food. The food scene is so diverse down here.In San Jose,a town known for Hispanics,I can't find one vegan taco.between me and my family we were able to try most things on the menu

Yelp
Great taco shop for those looking for a complete vegan experience. They nailed the seitan "meats". Portions were perfect, just the right amount to fill me up. Staff is friendly and helpful with choosing from the diverse menu. Non-vegans will also enjoy the food. The restaurant was spotlessly clean. The reason for removing one star is the temperature of the food was just hot enough to eat. If the rice and beans had been heated a couple more minutes it would have been perfect.

Yelp
Had the best dinner at Tacotarian last night in North Park. I was the only vegan in my bunch but everyone LOVED the food. I had the mushroom asada enchiladas with verde sauce and see no reason to ever order anything else. But better yet, the staff couldn't have been nicer or more helpful. A+ customer service -just genuinely nice people working there
