I'm not feeling it. I had some veggie tacos here, but was unimpressed, especially compared to what you can get at Pineda Tacos (or even Chipotle, for that matter).
For one thing, Taco Taxi doesn't have avocado. What?! A Mexican restaurant without avocado is simply absurd. Moreover, for vegans, avocado becomes the center point of a Mexican meal (unless you can find a place with tofu or seitan or mock chicken, but that almost never happens).
Second, the salsa they gave me wasn't good. It was too liquid-y and had almost no zing to it.
Third, the cashier couldn't answer my questions about the ingredients (i.e. are the beans cooked in lard? is the rice cooked in chicken broth?), even though I asked in Spanish. And my Spanish is pretty good. The cashier simply didn't know any details about the food they serve, which is always worrisome.
Fourth, there's no explicitly vegetarian food on the menu, which is always a hassle, as it means you have to ask a million questions and get something constructed from scratch for you. Also, the place seems heavy on the use of sour cream and cheese, which hints at a lack of sophistication in their cooking style.
I like that Taco Taxi is open late. Otherwise, I'd rather go to Pineda Tacos down the road.
