A College Student’s Guide to Campus Dining at Oregon State University | Eater Portland

"At Taco Vino in downtown Corvallis I enjoy tacos that highlight Pacific Northwestern ingredients and global flavors — examples include beef bulgogi short rib tacos topped with pickled veggies and Painted Hills skirt steak tacos with radish-lime-habanero pico and avocado puree — all wrapped in warm, handmade corn tortillas (100% gluten-free), with on-tap sangrias and local brews available; expect 15–30 minute waits during peak hours." - Mariah Botkin

Google
Best tacos in Corvallis! All the tacos were unique and tasted so good. Tacos were around 5-6 $ but were worth it in my opinion as portion sizes were generous. Loved the guacamole as well, so fresh. Would definitely come back. Queso flambeado was bomb as well. Waiter was also very friendly and had great recommendations.

Having just moved here from Dallas, Texas, my husband and I were a bit skeptical about the tacos. But we were blown away. The menu showed a very high level of creativity, sophistication, and inspiration. I didn’t include any photos of the plates because we were just so into eating our tacos, I didn’t think to. We will definitely be going back! We’re also looking forward to experimenting with their impressive drink menu.

We have a severely gluten intolerant member of our family who can't even eat an GF option at most restaurants due to cross contamination. It was nice to find this place that has a dedicated GF kitchen. They are also very conscientious about other food allergies, and the waitress was very patient and knowledgeable. I would highly recommend this place for anyone, but especially those with gluten intolerant diets.

Google
This place is fantastic. The tacos are sold as singles so you can get a few different ones easily. I got the AL Pastor, The Skirt Steak and the Barbacoa. All were delicious. We also got the Queso Flambeado and I would go back for that all by itself. Our server, Cameron, was fast, polite and attentive. Great experience all around

We’re from Austin, so we know tacos, and this place was great! Hongos & beet tacos sounded bizarre but were sooo yummy. Lots of good drink choices, too. Chill vibe. Highly recommend!

Google
Taco Vino's specials are always amazing, and the pineapple teriyaki steelhead taco I ordered tonight was no exception. The Korean short rib taco was also great. The basic margarita is top notch. Servers were friendly and attentive. I docked a star for not knowing what to do with solo diners. I was told it was either the bar (noisy and crowded even at 3 p.m.) or a 2-top sandwiched next to the bar. I get that it's Friday, but I came in at an off hour to avoid taking up space during lunch or dinner, and there were plenty of tables.

Google
Had a nice lunch. Tacos had good flavor and were interesting. Two of my tacos had huge chucks of fat in the meat, which was a bit disappointing considering all the effort that went into the prep. The server disappeared for a bit so I didn't have an opportunity to ask about it. Overall the food was fine and the service was ok. I probably would have rated our visit a 4 overall, but both the food and the service were more pretentious than what was actually delivered. I'll give it another try sometime.

Last year, on a terrific fall Tuesday in 2023, I picked up some excellent tacos for takeout from Taco Vino at 151 NW Monroe Ave, Corvallis, Oregon. Today, I enjoyed those tacos across the street in the park by the scenic Willamette River. As I scrolled through my images, I reminisced about the delightful experience I had while watching the golden sunset at Riverside Park on the corner of 1st Street in Corvallis, Oregon. I took a fantastic photo on my phone and promised to share it with my new friend, the chef. The flavors of the tacos were incredible, and the happiness I felt was ideally suited for enjoying the beautiful fall colors around me. I also fondly remember hanging out with my friend Mike, relishing the tasty food and my favorite beer, Apricot by Pyramid—a delicious, fruity choice. The vibrant autumn views along the Willamette River contributed to the peaceful atmosphere. I want to compliment the chef, who is the owner of Taco Vino. It’s a fantastic place with awesome and delicious food! I think it’s a great spot to visit, and I absolutely loved the food! ❤️

Yelp
My favorite restaurant in Corvallis! I love the different types of tacos they offer, and I am able to eat most of them even with my food sensitivities. The staff is always super nice and attentive. It's a popular place and gets a bit loud inside, but they have outdoor seating if you are sensitive to noise. They also have special tacos that are fun to try. The pork belly taco was one of the most delicious things I've ever eaten. I keep hoping it comes back again!

Yelp
In town for OSU college visit, we were pleased to find this place. Fun downtown location and efficient staff!!! I sounds "Tex-mex" and they do have AMAZING salsa and many fun margaritas & sangrias--but they also have other salads/entrees. Best beet salad (& amazing chicken) I've had in quite awhile. Other dishes included tacos. EVERYONE happy and would return!!

Yelp
If you are an adventurous eater and you're looking for a cool place to chill and have a few drinks this is the place. The restaurant is in an old warehouse and it's in there with a few other establishments so finding it is a tiny bit tricky. Parking adds to the trickiness. There are meters, private lots, and free spaces so choose wisely. Once inside the staff will seat you but you are packed in with others. That could be good or bad in my case I was entertained by a group of young ladies consoling one who had a basket of emotional issues and wasn't shy about sharing them loudly. I mean dude...seek therapy. The interior is awesome it's fun and hip. Exposed beam ceilings and nice furniture fun stuff to see it's a cool environment. The staff are excellent my waiter, Jack was a good guy. Just the right amount of personality and attentiveness. The food is fusion tacos and Mexi Asian dishes. I got 3 tacos, a peaking duck, Korean short rib, and a carnitas. 3 tacos filled my belly nicely. The rub is they were tasty and really clever but the meats were over cooked. The actual Mexican taco in my trifecta was super dry. This was almost disappointing since the taco joint got the traditional taco the most wrong. Overall the pace is a good choice, it's lively happy and busy inside which says a lot. The food was good but not great to balance that statement the cost was super low. 3 tacos $18 bucks, I left a healthy tip because the waiter was great

Yelp
Wonderful spot downtown!! They have so many innovative taco options, as well as the classics. Our server was super friendly and the patio is great for nice weather. The salad is a must get, I even tried to get the recipe for the dressing but the waitress said that wasn't allowed...bummer!!

Yelp
The food here is so good. Everything is so fresh and flavorful. The staff are all super nice, and the service is also very quick. They have both inside and outside seating as well. Proportions are also pretty good, and they have a great variety of food on the menu. I really like the Carinitas taco and the fish one. They also have an amazing house margarita, and they have one with mezcal too. They can also make all of their drinks non-alcoholic if you want the taste without all of the booze. Highly recommend, 10/10 food.

Yelp
The food is so delicious and flavorful. Everything seems fresh and made in-house. The servers here are always nice and on top of everything. It takes a little long to get what you ordered, but the food is 100% worth it. Also the ambience is really cool and trendy. This is definitely a restaurant meant for a social, long dinner or lunch. In the spring and summer they have outdoor seating. Sometimes the wait to get in can be long, so be prepared.

Yelp
A very pleasant surprise in the heart of Corvallis I thought the most outstanding part of the meal was the melted cheese ie the Queso Flambeado Different cheeses , roasted tomatoes , garlic, scallions topped off with tequila that is set aflame I would wait for the flames to die down before you dig in but the taste was amazing. It's got a kick to it but perfect with beer. I had a a Carnitas taco. There's a lot of meat for just a single taco and let me add that it is a freshly made corn taco. I will be returning to try some of the other dishes on the menu

Yelp
Fun spot that serves pretty good tacos. Came by for dinner and ordered three tacos: 1 - Al Pastor - this was my favorite taco, pork with the jalapeños and fresh pineapple worked well together. 2 - Korean Beef Short Rib - This taco was pretty good but was NOT a very good imitation of KOREAN FOOD. Still enjoyed it. 3 - Fish Taco - this was disappointing. Fish was deep fried, over cooked, and had a red sauce that DOES NOT work with fish. Avoid this one. Service was really good! Server was friendly and they brought me my food quickly. Menu had tacos and a few other dishes that were non taco related. They "make your own guacamole" appetizer was popular and looked like a fun group activity. They have several pages of alcohol options but zero dessert options. This is a good place to come in a group and enjoy drinks and a meal together. Just don't order the fish taco
google avatar

Annette M.

Yelp
Service was friendly tacos and chips with red salsa were all delicious. Al pastor and duck tacos were our favorites. I also ordered the pozole and I would definitely skip that next time. Bland flavor and filled will mushy tortillas and an over abundance of soggy shredded cabbage which were both off putting. Stick with the tacos and sit on the patio and you will enjoy yourself,

Yelp
Today, I'm adding the 5th star. I've gone back many times to this lovely spot, and I can't rave the staff enough. This is a dedicated and hardworking crew. The barkeep is next level. His cocktails are clutch, and he will introduce you to new spirits to tantalize your taste buds. I discovered more of the tiki inspired cocktails, too. Although Corvallis doesn't have a tiki bar, you can get your tiki on right here. I really need to tell y'all about the mushroom appetizer. At my very first visit, I was not impressed by the salsa that comes with the chips. Not the green or red. That took me on a journey to try other apps at my visits. The day I discovered the fried mushrooms tossed lightly in corn meal was the day I knew how truly special Tacovino is. These little popcorn style mushrooms have a perfect texture that's so bursting with flavor you may just order one whole plate for yourself. They have a Chile-Lime-Crema drizzled on top, and each bite is a crispy delight. You can ask for vegan style drizzle if needed. Don't delay. You want to eat here, but save me a place at the bar.

Yelp
Sit down taco restaurant which seemed like an upscale option for the local students. The place was packed when we showed up but we were able to get a seat at the bar. It was quite loud in there, but the ambiance was otherwise good. They have a good selection of- you guessed it- Tacos. I tried the special (Schnitzel), beef and chicken. The tacos were OK but at the end just so so and certainly not authentic. House Margaritas are poured from a tap, so nothing top shelf there either. That being said, the whole dinner was relatively reasonable. OK option, but nothing great.

Yelp
Ambience was nice, great music! Very good food, service is great friendly servers. The Drinks were really good

Yelp
Came here for dinner a couple of months ago and had a wonderful experience. I had the red sangria which was yummy and the chicken curry taco that was tasty! Such a vibrant fun place, cute decor, quick service, friendly waiters/waitresses/hostess, menu has plenty of variety - I believe there was even duck on the menu! Would definitely come back when I'm in the area again. There's also outside seating which is nice and ample parking.

Yelp
Was in town for sister's graduation and we decided to try the unconventional non authentic taco place. Wait time during graduation weekend and on a Friday night was about 15-20 minutes for a group of 3. Queso: I'm not the biggest cheese fan so I'm not the right person for this, but I thought it was a little salty. I also thought the top layer of the cheese was a little too charred and only liked the bottom uncharred cheese. Korean taco: Pretty good flavor however the pieces could been a little smaller or softer so that they could be bitten. I took a bite and had to take a huge piece of meat with me since it wouldn't tear. Skirt steak taco: Alright, steak was good. It was a little too creamy though. I wish there was less crema and more salsa. I even squeezed both limes over all of them and it still wasn't acidic enough. Carnitas taco: Decent taco, could use pico de gallo to be honest to liven it up a little. My mom got the peking duck taco which is the reason why we came here but she was disappointed. The toppings were good on the taco, but the duck itself was over salted and dry. If back in the area probably wouldn't come back since there seems to be another taco place that's better, but nice to try something new

Yelp
Absolutely loved both tacos I had. The Merguez sausage and the Korean beef short rib taco were delicious. We also ate a the bar since it was busy. The bartender was great!

Yelp
Every time I go to Tacovino it's an experience. Their classics are amazing (especially skirt steak taco and Queso flameado) but I always try their taco of the week and am impressed every time. Great respect for creativity and rotating menu.

Yelp
I was down in Corvallis at OSU for State Band competition and stopped in here for some tacos after the performance. It was a beautiful night so there was a bit of a wait for outside seating so we sat inside. The waitress was so helpful and fun. We started with the honey glazed roasted sweet potatoes. They were good. Not super flavorful but warm and delicious. We also got the smoked local baby potatoes. They came with chimichurri sauce which wasn't super flavorful. They were very smokey flavored. It was a little over whelming. Between the 4 of us we ordered smattering of tacos. The barbacoa-It was good, the carnitas(fabulous!-would order this again for sure, the tomatillos avocado salsa is spectacular), the Al pastor- this was good not my favorite, the Peking duck- the duck is very crispy and the flavors are unique with the orange and the fish taco which was incomparable-so good, craveable good! Overall, I would totally come back. Cool vibe, nice location, friendly service, great food. When I come back I'm getting the fish tacos and the carnitas. I think I'd try the guac too. Happy eating!

Yelp
We visited on a Saturday in the summer ("off" season ). We were promptly sat indoors where the ambiance is vibrant and inviting. The business volume picked up quickly thereafter making me grateful we'd arrived early. The server was absolutely amazing! I wish I could recall their name to give them proper praise. The menu is smaller for this size venue but the flawless execution of what's on it makes the impact of that a lot less. If you're a selective or limited variety eater, I'd recommend checking out the menu before visiting. The wine emphasis was a little odd if I'm being honest. However, if the food is this tasty, carry on with the oddities. Absolutely worth a visit and another after that. A great job to all at TacoVino for a great experience!

Yelp
An entirely gluten free taco spot! Yes please! The duck taco was arguably the best taco in my life. Service was ok but the outdoor seating made up for that. Their kids menu is the coolest thing ever! The menu choices too for the kids menu is perfect!
google avatar

Yelp
Just tried this spot for the first time this weekend, the weather was gorgeous so we sat outside. Just a heads up, outdoor seating requires counter service (order inside, they bring your food and drinks out to you). I completely forgot to take a picture of the tacos before we ate them! I did manage to get one photo of the jackfruit taco; it was delicious, and had a super meaty texture, I was pleasantly surprised. The only thing I would adjust is the amount of oil (it dripped oil with each bite). The chips/salsa/guacamole combo was good, everything tasted fresh. My partner had the jackfruit taco, tempeh taco, and beet/kale/mushroom taco. He enjoyed the jackfruit and tempeh the most. In addition to the jackfruit, I also had the fish taco (fried) and rockfish taco (broiled I think?). I preferred the fried fish taco to the rockfish, the pickled onions and carrots added a nice acidity and crunch. Overall, a great first impression and I am sure we will be back!

Yelp
Food is amazing!! I love their vegan tacos. They have choices of tacos. I usually get one of each taco! Service is great, ambience casual.
google avatar

Riane H.

Yelp
Great food great service BUT! I live in Eugene and go to Corvallis specifically for Tacovino, normally ordering 10-15 tacos and some soups. All very delicious however they are stingy with their sauce. If I say salsa matcha on the side I normally don't get it at all. If I say can I get enough green sauce for all of the tacos I get three little cups, which is not enough for the amount of tacos I order. Everything else FLAWLESS. Just need to work on the sauce output and ratio to amount of tacos ordered.
google avatar

Lauren L.

Yelp
They have a fun, creative menu, full of mostly tacos and an extensive list of cocktails, liquor and wine. Love, love, love that the entire menu is gluten free! As a pescatarian too I had many taco choices. I went with the veg version of the Korean short rib taco (with tempeh) and a fish taco. Both were SO delicious. We had salsa and guacamole - chips were great but dips were only so-so. Drinks were all on the sweet side, but fun to try. It was busy and lovely and they had great, attentive, knowledgeable service.
google avatar

Ron E.

Yelp
Worst service I've ever received. I'll never go back to this place. Parking is also an issue as there seems to be cars Permanently parked in the area. Probably employees.

Jonah S.

Yelp
TacoVino takes tacos to smother level. The atmosphere is comfortable, the food is pretty good, and the service is good (especially considering how busy they get). The only gripe is how quickly the bill can add up. If you are looking for somewhere nicer to eat TacoVino should be on your list.
google avatar

Andrew T.

Yelp
Not your typical taco stop! DIY guacamole is ridiculously good, please take my $14 any day of the week!! Margaritas are wonderful with a rotation of seasonal options. Weekly taco specials that are always interesting. I have always had great service and never left hungry.
google avatar

Alanna M.

Yelp
The tacos, service and location were perfect. I had the Duck Taco and Fish Taco. My friend had the Barbacoa Taco and the Greens Salad. All was to die for. Heading back next week.
google avatar

Kristi W.

Yelp
The best salsa ever - green and red! Pozole was awesome! Nice size portions. Great prices and service.
google avatar

Mandi R.

Yelp
Don't go here if you everyone in your dining party wants a fork. Or a drinking glass. Or napkins. Or if you don't want to have to ask for every little thing (salt, refills on water, to order, etc.). Not to mention when I politely asked if they had children's menus, the waitress rudely turned over the two children's books they had on the table, pointed at the back of the books where the menus were taped on, and walked away without saying anything. If I knew that's where the kids menus were, I wouldn't have asked... It's too bad because their food is very good. I ordered two tacos al pastor and one fish taco. Both were wonderful. My husband ordered three skirt steak tacos and only got one. He said he wasn't hungry after the first one (after filling up on chips), but that was lucky, considering they never brought the other two. Sadly, we probably won't be back, at least for a long while. The food was not good enough to outweigh the abismal service.
google avatar

Bryon L.

Yelp
Expensive but worthy. Skip the chips and order another Taco. The Tacos are worth skipping the chips. The Good: Wow what a great place. The price is per taco but you get a larger than street size taco with tons of quality fillings. All three of the Curry, Short Rib, and Al Pastor tacos were something else. I wish Ibhad the Barbacoa & Fish taco. The short ribs races are by far the best. They were absolutely amazing. Perfect blend of sweet and savory. I added some green salsa from the chips and it was a strong move. I could eat a whole meal of just these. I've never had a curry taco but it was also amazing. Peanuts on top made it even better. Only thing I could think that might make it better was chppped peanuts so they are more evenly distributed. The Opportunity: Paying $5 for a bowl of chips and salsa is annoying but understandable. It would be nice they offered a refill option for $3. We had plenty of salsa but with 5 orders of chips for 10 people, the $25 for chips and salsa was too extra. Lots of wasted salsa, and I hate waste.

Scott G.

Yelp
Excellent food. Ceviche was great. Tacos excellent. Margarita it's on point. Good vibe
google avatar

Tracey D.

Yelp
Best Queso in Oregon hands down. Korean Taco full of flavor and a nice kick. We got there at the perfect time, we checked in, within a few minutes they had a table ready, it was super busy so food took a bit to come out, so worth the wait.

MaryNell R.

Yelp
Margaritas, tacos & great salads & great staff are highly recommended. Ask for guacamole with extra garlic !

Yelp
Amazing food!!!! Amazing service!!! Highly recommend!! If you get a chance to eat here I highly suggest visiting!!

Yelp
Delicious steak tacos and very friendly staff, located in a pretty part of town :) I also tried the KBBQ taco which was also quite delicious.
google avatar

Elise B.

Yelp
We went on a busy week night when they were short staffed and we still had incredible friendly and quick service, great food, and super yummy cocktails. We tried a bunch of different tacos and all of them were fantastic. 6 big tacos, 2 gin cocktails, and 2 super big glasses of sangria later and I think we spent $75. I recommend and wish we had something like this in my town.
google avatar

Eyeland L.

Yelp
Great tacos-- try the duck taco it was delicious. I tried several different kinds but the duck was superior! Also old fashioned drinks are amazing!

Yelp
Can I give even more stars for this update? I haven't been able to stop thinking about TacoVino's tempeh taco, so we drove the 1.5 hours down to Corvallis for my birthday lunch with a couple friends. And it was worth it. Their food is so good, and our server was the sweetest, most friendly and attentive woman, and the drinks were excellent, and yes, we will do the 3 hour round trip drive again soon. I couldn't help but order 2 of the tempeh tacos and they were every bit as good as I remembered. I also tried the smoked potato appetizer and it was delicious. Hubby got the fried chicken special and a duck taco, while our friends went mostly beef and pork. Everyone raved about the food. This is definitely my favorite restaurant within at least 2 hours of Forest Grove.
google avatar

Kate H.

Yelp
This may be, no wait it definitely is my favorite restaurant in Corvallis. Between amazing tacos, delicious cocktails, and fantastic service I seem to come here every time I'm in town. I'd love to recommend a taco fir you, but I have enjoyed every one. The Peking duck is truly unique and fun. The Barbacoa and carnitas are a favorite, but be bold and try their specials. The specials are usually full of flavor. Add a Cardamom Margarita and your set. Don't forget the chips and salsa or guacamole. Personal favorite is the red salsa. The staff have always been friendly and helpful. The atmosphere is welcoming and comfortable, but it can get crowded especially on busy weekends.
google avatar

Tara H.

Yelp
Love this place. Amazing tacos and cocktails. Here's Johnny and the Prickly Pear Margarita are my faves.

Lori R.

Yelp
This place is a must. Tacos are amazing, margs are sensational, and the service is great! The tone of the place is fun but chill. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Cynthia W.

Yelp
I met a fellow Napa Valley resident in Spain who raved about this place. I was dying to try it. I found it pretty average. I think what got me going is that the tortillas were like bought from Safeway. They were very dry. So disappointing. My local taco truck has much better tortillas. The fillings were good but dang, if your going to go to all the trouble of preparing good fillings, go big and make fresh tortillas. Then sell the extras to faculty for $0.50 a piece. Oops just read their website and they do make their own tortillas. Maybe I need to give them another try? Is that a recent thing?
google avatar

Jillian S.

Yelp
I've already written several reviews of this place, the worst facet of which is the noxious and arrogant owner. As they say, the apple doesn't fall fr from the tree. Dry and unremarkable tacos, annoyingly trendy clientele (who really aren't that trendy). I'll never go here again; made that promise three years ago and I've had zero problems keeping it. Avoid.
google avatar

Michelle N.

Yelp
On of our favorite haunts! The standards are delicious, and I always look forward to the specials. The staff is knowledgeable, friendly and service is prompt.
google avatar

Riley C.

Yelp
My favorite place for tacos, I feel underwhelmed anywhere else!! It's always busy and full of people socializing, eating, and drinking, all year round for good reason :) Try the Al pastor, you won't be disappointed
google avatar

Eric C.

Yelp
Worst SERVICE EVER! In fact, we just walked out. After waiting for over 45min for 4 tacos and no sight of our food, we just got up and left. Save your money for a place the does their job.
google avatar

Jessica B.

Yelp
This place was amazing! Fantastic tacos that are creative and well-crafted. Freshly made chips with delicious salsa and guacamole. Their house margarita on happy hour was great too; you could tell they actually made it fresh and weren't using a pre-made mixer. They were especially kind to my 2 year son and the kids menu is great with many options, he really enjoyed the chicken taco. The people here must have kids because the kids menu is taped to the back of a kids book which he loved and kept him entertained. The price was really reasonable too. We went here specifically because my friend who must be on a strictly gluten free diet can eat here. I'll definitely be coming back!
google avatar

Kathy B.

Yelp
We sat outside on the patio in the shade enjoying the great weather after being seated right away for lunch. Chips and guacamole were really good/fresh. The two salsas were good, with different sweet flavors. These items are all cost items not complimentary. The Korean short rib taco was very good with great flavor. The skirt steak had good flavor but meat was a little chewy. The Barbacoa tacos were just OK. The service was a bit slow but acceptable. Although not blown away with our experience we would try again.

Jose Javier G.

Yelp
Didn't know that being an inauthentic restaurant meant serving bad food. I was blown away by the beautiful ambiance inside, our waiter was great. My partner and I started with the DIY guacamole which was easily a 5 star appetizer. The issue came with the two tacos that I ordered, Al Pastor and the fish taco. The pork in my Al pastor taco was extremely dense, not to mention it was super chewy, which wouldn't have been a problem except for the fact that there was absolutely no flavor. As far as the fish taco goes; it was extremely unremarkable. If you're charging $5 nearly $6 ($5.75 for the fish taco) you really gotta put more effort into your dishes.
