The Persian/Iranian community in Markham and Richmond Hill has exploded over the past few years, and many flock to this humble little eatery for a true taste of home. The specialty here, of course, are tahchins, or baked rice cakes. Iranians have a serious love affair with these bulbous, saffron-hued pucks, whose crunchy outer shells come stuffed with your choice of ghormeh sabzi (a herbaceous beef stew), bademjan (an eggplant stew with beef and dried lemon), boneless veal, or chicken. They all come garnished with tart-sweet barberries. There’s even a macaroni tahdig: pasta, ground beef, and tomato sauce baked into a crispy puck of pan-fried potato. Tahchin Bar is one of the best places to get Persian food, and their specialty is tahchin. Their Tahchin Macaroni, Ghormeh Sabzi, and Bademjoon Morgh are our favorites. They never disappoint with their portions or their stews. Totally recommend it!

Loved the baghali polo with mahiche and the morgh o bademjoon tabchins; the flavours and textures were incredibly cozy and nostalgic. The only thing was that it was a bit hard to find the eggplant in the morgh o bademjoon tahchin! The mast o khiar was really good too.

Food was good. Makaroni was great! Please dont change the recipe of it! Lamb and barberry tahchin also were great! Only thing that needs to be improved is gheime tahchin. It had 3 limes inside my tahchin. It was unbelievably sour with only 1 piece of meat inside it. I really got disappointed cause I used to love gheime tahchin with a great quality like other foods. Thanks guys.

The portion size and amount of meat offered were relatively small, especially considering the price. The rice was served in a significantly larger quantity than the meat. For the same price, other restaurants generally provide larger portions and a more balanced meat-to-rice ratio. Response to their reply: For $27 at Shamsiri Restaurant, you can have quality food and much bigger portions with a great meat-to-rice ratio. Please don't compare your brand to Mandarin lol.

Absolutely love Tahchinbar! It's an amazing takeout spot with the best tahchin! For those who don't know, tahchin is a crispy rich dish with has some type of meat filling inside. The cherry chicken it's one of my favourites and tastes great. The rice is perfectly crispy and the chicken is nice and juicy with some tart flavours from the cherry. Service is always prompt and friendly. It is just a takeout spot but the interior is designed quite nice. Definitely my go to takeout spot!

Small little restaurant with busy take out. Very middle eastern food with not standard dish you used to try. I order lamb shank with rice(aka tachyon?) it took the whole 15 mins wait to cook. You see the rice is serve like a cake and not able to see the Lam shank. The rice is actually made outside crispy and lamb shank is inside the rice. It comes with sauce and can pour it over. It is very filling and looks like everyone in the restaurant (only have 4-5 tables ) cannot finish this dish. The restaurant is facing parking lot in the mall and you need to go out from the mall to get in.

The idea that wrapping barbequed or stewed meats in a rice crust is awesome and even many cuisines that have rice as the main grain don't have that. However, I also feel this idea is wasted because the rice crust didn't protect the meats from losing moisture. The chicken I got inside the tahchin was pretty dry. The rice is hard but not crunchy.

Tahchin is a persian dish made in a few steps, usually in large rectangular dishes in the oven. They have created the same in small personal sized dishes. However, they have created a number of variations of which the stews seem most intriguing since, as a persian, I grew up with those persian stews. Service is usually passable, and ambiance, it seems most popular as a pickup option.

This restaurant specializes and innovates in one of the most traditional Persian foods, Tahchin. They make multiple Persian stew such as Ghormeh Sabzi, Baghali Polo and Adas Polo into Tahchin style. We tried Baghali Polo (fava bean and lamb), Chicken Tahchin, Adas Polo (Lentile and lamb) and Mast Khiar (Yogurt and cucumber) and Mast Moosir (Yogurt and super garlic). The food was great, tastes amazing, and had great crunchy crust. It however took 30-40 min to prepare. The space in the restaurant is small and works better for take out. Thus the best to do is to order and go for pickup. Staff are very nice. The restaurant does not have tap water (as I said not suitable for dine in) or does not have glasses for water which was disappointing.
