"The Tahoma Market & Deli has been a landmark on Tahoe’s West Shore since 1943 and it’s seen many iterations over the years: roadside lodge, convenience store, and video rental shop. Now, a recent renovation turned this sleepy outpost into a thriving artisan market with everything needed for a picnic outside in Lake Tahoe — beverages, snacks, and, most importantly, a deli counter. The sandwiches give the Tahoma Market its cult-like following. Puffy slabs of white bread are smeared with pesto, or sprinkled with cheddar cheese and jalapeños, baked until golden, and layered with deli meats and cheeses. The building and the market are entirely new, but the sandwiches are the same foot-long classics they’ve been for decades. That’s why locals still call them PDQ sandwiches, a deep cut reference to the old convenience store and the roots of Tahoe’s West Shore community." - Julie Brown Davis

Yelp
I beg of you try the cinnamon rolls Please Coffee was good Fun hang in all seasons Yummy sandwiches

Yelp
Solid 5 stars for their friendly service and HUGE sandwiches! They are definitely the size of a baby... and our sandwiches were overflowing with roast beef. They didn't skimp on the meat. My son ate his entire sandwich in one sitting, while my daughter and I shared one whole sandwich, and I couldn't finish my half. I'm coming back the next day to try their pizza for dinner. Also bought a bag of the their huge bagels from Truckee Sourdough Company. Sooo good for breakfast sandwiches.

Yelp
Amazing market hard to find parking at times, unreal sandwiches and pizza and a great collection of wine and bourbon for a small market in Tahoma. The best steak at this place is their unbelievable breakfast sandwich to be paired with great pastries you can eat in their small back store dining area or take back to your cabin. It has all the amenities of a high end convenience store but it isn't cheap, but your in Tahoe you already figure that out. I needed ice cream and got 4 half gallons that set me back 60 plus dollars. I have loved this place for years and look forward to annual visits!

Gabriela E.

Yelp
Expensive but great selection of food! Nice and quick spot to grab some groceries near the house.

Alex B.

Yelp
Super cool place! The staff is great, very nice and knowledgeable. The selection of items is top-notch and the prices are surprisingly affordable. It is clear that they aren't marking things up a bunch just because they're at the lake. Cheers, we'll be back!

Joyce C.

Yelp
Super clean inside with a little sitting area with tables and chairs to enjoy your food. The prices are great for the portion size of the sandwiches. I got a full sandwich to split with me and my daughter and it was loaf of bread sized sandwich! Delicious pickles on it too

John C.

Yelp
Oh WOW!!! We had no idea how good this place was!!! Finally stopped in here while riding bikes to grab some sandwiches to go and eat further up the ride. Wife had a half sandwich which for some deli's or fast food would equal their full. I had the full Roast beef and cheddar toasted. It was amazing even a half hour later. Still warm in my backpack when we broke for lunch. I swear the roast beef had a great taste and even looked and smelled like smoke rings. For 11:30 and a full parking lot service was kind and fast. Maybe a two minute wait in line and 5 mins or less for the food prep. Everyone was friendly and it seemed like that's where the local workers go for lunch. They make pizza too and they looked very good. Next time. Although honestly I'm sure I'll get the roast beef again. If you want to expand your menu contact me and I will be your taste tester for a hot French dip!!! Yummy.

Yelp
One of my go to markets on the west shore side. Great place for a small grocery trip or for some yummy hot foods. They have sandwiches, pizzas, baked goods and etc, lots of options to choose from! The breakfast Sandwiches are my go to as they are simple but perfect for on the go and the ingredients in it is kinda like a McMuffin lol. They always have a good stock of alcohol choices and non alcoholic drinks options, a pretty expensive list of grocery items to purchase from from frozen goods to fresh produce. Overall it's a nice little market with friendly staff and is convenient when your on the way to the beach but beware parking is quite limited but there is small back parking lot behind the market that has some parking spots, other than crazy traffic in the summer this is the place for a quick grab and go.

Cynthia B.

Yelp
A whole sandwich is pricey, but feeds 2-4 people! The bread is made fresh daily and the toppings are fresh. Plus, they have a great selection of chips, drinks and grocery items. The only miss was a lack of tables. We found some seats in the back with barstools. It was a little challenging with the kids to not lose their food or drinks over the railing. But the staff whips up the sandwiches fast which is always a bonus.

Yelp
Over Thanksgiving, my husband and I rented a cabin on the West Shore and needed a few groceries to get us through the week. We walked to Tahoma Market and found everything we needed. They had all basic staples as well as a nice variety of wine and beer. I also got some supplies to do some light baking! Also, we enjoyed their breakfast sandwiches from the deli - eggs, cheese, and bagels. This definitely an awesome little gem on the West Shore. The staff were kind and helpful.

Paulett M.

Yelp
Great sandwiches! Fun clean store with all you might need. Nice staff.. they make our Tahoe trip do fun.

Jonathan S.

Yelp
Great service, extremely friendly, and the pizzas were absolutely delicious (build your own and meat lovers). Would definitely recommend! Lots of other great snacks, drinks and meals to pick up if needed as well!

Dan B.

Yelp
Prices are higher than when PDQ had the store. The merchandise Seems to cater more to tourists than locals.

Lynn H.

Yelp
Wow! This market is great! A deli, pastries and a huge wine selection. Has all the basics too and the staff is friendly. If you're in the area make this one of your destinations for something delish!

Nina M.

Yelp
Found this little market on the way up to Meeks Bay. There is a sub sandwich built to order station inside. They also sell pizza in the evenings. Their breads are advertised as baked onsite daily. They offer half and full sized subs. I opted to share a full size with my husband. The portion was enormous. I couldn't finish my half in one sitting. The bread (I picked pesto) was delicious and the sandwich was really solid. My husband gave it a 10/10! There was so much pastrami piled high! Only knocking a star because the wait is long. From ordering to getting my sandwich, I spent nearly half hour at the deli. They have 2 people making all the sandwiches and they seem to get busy. This spot is definitely worth a try when they are not busy or you are not in any rush!

Chase C.

Yelp
Great sanwiches, poor attention to detail. Ordered a $16 sandwich today and maybe because they were busy they missed the mark. It was supposed to have 2 kinds of cheese on it, but only had 1 (when its an orange and white cheese, it's easy to tell when the white is missing). It was supposed to have avocado on it, didnt have any. It was supposed to have no pickles, had tons. The receipt was accurate except for the pickles, so mostly errors on the prep side. Fortunately the bread is great (sadly they no longer have wheat rolls), so even a botched order was still edible. Will still go there but am double checking my future orders.

Ryan R.

Yelp
Great sandwiches!!! Don't let the cost there you off, they are literally the size of a newborn baby. I ate half of it and it totally destroyed my dinner 5 hours later The staff is simply awesome.

Len S.

Yelp
We have been coming here since the 1980's. It's gone through different ownership over the years but as of late it's re-opened and remodeled. It's very nice in side now more than before. The bread and sandwiches are still really really good in my opinion and the customer service is okay. When the deli was smaller in the past perhaps the customer service felt more personal though now it's not bad. I've had some great and some not so great experiences with the staff but overall it's good customer service for the most past. They make pizza too but the sandwiches in my opinion is where it's at. Based on the pictures as of late it seems to look inconsistent but my experience is that the food has always been really good. Overall it's my favorite place to get a sandwich anywhere in Lake Tahoe!

Kathy S.

Yelp
Sloppy sandwiches and sloppy service. I've been coming to the new Tahoma Market for the past two seasons. I used to love it, though the sandwiches have never impressed me. But what's worse is the service. I've never seen so many people who work at a store who are just standing around, which leads me to believe they don't pay their workers well at all. We ordered sandwiches online today, which the market recommends to save time, "cut the line!" they say. We waited over an hour to get our sandwiches, and that was after we'd ordered from our house, and travelled to the market. While we were waiting, we saw them make sandwiches for people who were in line after us. When I asked about my order, I got barked at, "your order will get to you when it gets to you!" If you're going to run a sandwich shop in Tahoe, at least pay your people well enough to enjoy what they do so that they don't project it onto your customers. We'll never be returning, and I hope you don't bother with this place.

Chuck B.

Yelp
I am a local part time resident in Tahoma and have been coming to this market for many years. After a major renovation, the market re-opened in 2021 with a more upscale look, but still many of the great food offerings and the convenience of a surprisingly broad selection of grocery items. If this is your first time coming to Tahoma Market, then be sure to get one of their legendary sandwiches. You won't be disappointed.

Michelle R.

Yelp
Excellent sandwiches to go and eat on the beach!!! LARGE, super soft bread and I like the chicken salad!!!! drinks are in the far right corner, kinda hard to find, pizzas only after 4pm a must stop on your way to the beach! excellent wine and liquor options!!! Fancy options for such a small store! wish they had a bakery!!!!

Ron R.

Yelp
The made to order deli sandwich was amazing. We had ours on garlic bread with all the fixings. The turkey was delicious and the vegetables were fresh. Highly recommend getting a sandwich and driving down to the park and have lunch on the picnic tables overlooking the lake.

Rob S.

Yelp
Horrible service, OK pizzas. Put in online order for pickup 1.5 hrs later. Showed up 5 minutes after pick up time, and hadn't even started making our order. Told us it would be 10 minutes. Came back in 10 minutes, still hadn't started our order (there was 1 other family in deli experiencing same issue). 25 minutes later we finally had our order, with no apology. Really wish I could take back 20% tip that had already been charged to card. Gave them 1 star because pizzas were a 6.5/10. Never again.

Kristi B.

Yelp
They offer online ordering, but they are grossly unorganized and are never on time. Do not offer a service if you are not prepared to fulfill the service; especially on a holiday weekend when they should expect that the store will be overrun. I expected after the remodel that it would be better, but it is actually worse. The food is delicious but the service is so bad that it's not worth it.

Ally H.

Yelp
Even in the winter, after a big storm, Sandwiches are still as good as ever. Grab your food and walk over to Chambers for a Great Lake view.

Colin G.

Yelp
This place used to be known for having the best sandwiches in Lake Tahoe. Since it's been under new ownership, The place has progressively gone downhill. The place has been remodeled and that was done nicely. The store's well done and they carry quality products and fresh produce. The deli, which is the bulk of their business, has zero quality control. The employees that are making sandwiches do not care about their quality. Today, while ordering my sandwich, I stood at the counter for a good 5 minutes before I was acknowledged I needed to order. The two young men, with hair that looks like pubes, not wearing hair nets, making sandwiches had earbuds in that they continued to touch with their gloved hands that they are making sandwiches with. Once I was finally acknowledged, they took my order without removing their gloves and input my order on their touch screen. Then he went back to making sandwiches without changing gloves and continuing to touch his ears and face. The gentleman that made my sandwich was unacceptedly slow. It took him 20 minutes to make a sandwich. I don't know how this person is employed. My sandwich had way too much mayonnaise and the bread was doughy and under baked. This place no longer holds itself to the high standard it did before new ownership. It's unfortunate. I'll be taking my business elsewhere on the West shore.

Yelp
This is for their market and not on an experience for prepared food. Though their deli area was humming mid-day on a summer afternoon. So after the unpack and setting up of a camping trip, you'll eventually stumble on the things you forgot to pack. Can't vouch for everybody, but this happens to me 8/10 times. I don't even fight it anymore. On this trip I forgot 1 thing, but it is so essential that I had to retrieve it asap. It was liquid soap to wash up with, and sure enough I left it on my dresser at home, womp womp. So I came just for that and all they had was some fancier brand than what I'm accustomed to. But I had no choice. And sure it was a bit more, like almost $6ish for a pump container. Regular brands like Soft Soap or Dial are usually $3 bucks and often less. But it did make me smell like lavender, which just put a memorable stamp on this trip. Lol. Approaching the register and saw a nice liquor section. I browsed and noticed that most things are priced well above basic stores in citified areas, no surprise. I was low on my campfire sipper, so I found a bottle that didn't seem too far from the norm, in terms of mark up. I'm just glad that they even had a selection as they did, quite impressed actually. Added the daily bag of ice from the register and I was in and out of there in no time. Utility approved, just gotta come back and try some sandwiches.

Aynogud T.

Yelp
GROSS SANDWICHES, AVOID!: meats are sliced INCREDIBLY thick (thin slices are key to making a good lunch meat sandwich). They say they bake their own bread. They shouldn't. It's bad. Bread is hard. If you have bad bread and gross meat does the rest of the sandwich matter? It doesn't so I'll stop here. There was nothing else nearby so I still ate this abomination as I was so hungry i was on the verge of passing out. And I tried not to gag as that sloppy, slimy, slab of a rubber sole too-thick meat texture entered my mouth.

Dietrich S.

Yelp
I was a huge fan of this place back in the day when it was the PDQ Market, and I'm glad to say the glory is still in full effect in Tahoma. If you're in the Lake Tahoe area, and you need a delicious, ginormous sandwich, accept no substitutes. If you're in Tahoma and you need some essentials you can get from a basic market they have that too, but it's the sandwiches that set this place apart.

Tom Mertens at Rubicon ..

Yelp
So much improved with quality foods. This has been our go-to market for 40 years and its revitalization in the last couple years is very welcome. Expensive as usual for Tahoe West Shore but the food is worth it.

Mabel C.

Yelp
Cute little market with friendly staff. The sandwich was huge and delicious. Definitely will be back to try their pizza soon. We got got som Tahoe Creamery ice cream, so convenient.

Madisen H.

Yelp
Huge fresh tasting sandwiches! I saw some of the other reviews saying not enough meat but I didn't find this to be true at all! Clean environment too, and they sell their hoagie rolls to go. Great selection of beer and wines. Happy to know this is a close spot if needed in the future in Tahoma!

John R.

Yelp
We typically come to the West Shore of Lake Tahoe ever July for vacation. We have not been here for 3 years. Went into the Tahoma Market today to order some of their fantastic sandwiches to find a completely remodeled market. This was done VERY well. Lunch counter is larger and sparklie New. Good selection of groceries and produce. Liquor are was large with many good wines to choose from. This is not the old PDQ market. Great job and the sandwiches are sill excellent with freshly baked bread.

Chad F.

Yelp
Best sandwiches in Tahoe, and an excellent wine, beer, and liquor selection. Thumbs up

D A.

Yelp
Good, has everything you need! Saves a trip from going to Tahoe city. We stayed in Homewood and it was convenient and close by.

Denise Y.

Yelp
We were staying at a friend's house in Tahoma in June. We ended up going to this market four times during our four night stay. We were impressed by the nice appearance of the market and the variety of food items they carried. We ordered pizza for dinner one night and it was very good and a bargain for $13.95 ($1 off for ordering online and $1 off for Tuesday). The problem was with the sandwiches, despite the fact they are huge and can easily feed two people. The first visit we ordered turkey on sourdough bread. The turkey portion was generous but the sourdough bread was hard. For the chicken on pesto roll sandwich, the roll was soft but chicken salad was runny. The next visit we ordered pastrami on the pesto roll. The roll was hard and had hardly any meat inside. It seems these young kids who are making the sandwiches were not trained on how much meat to put on the sandwiches which leads to inconsistency. Also they are serving day-old bread which is not good. I would say to stick with the pizzas and not the sandwiches.

Alex G.

Yelp
Nice, clean place conveniently located. Food is good and prices reasonable for remote location.

John B.

Yelp
Don't order sandwiches online unless you order 3-4 hours early - it's been 2 hours since we ordered - we were told it would take an hour to make our order so we walked and arrived 10 minutes after promised time. We have watched people order their sandwiches and be served their sandwiches - while we wait. Walk-in is much faster than online. Admittedly it is July 2 so it is the busy season. Nonetheless, it would be better if online orders were given a realilistic timeline for order fulfillment.

Carole D.

Yelp
We've been coming to this market for many years. Thank you so much for online ordering of your amazing sandwiches!

Guiseppi M.

Yelp
This place is BOMB (for old people that means very good). New owners have redesigned the place. It's big, clean, lots of options, great whiskey shelf, several breakfast options., and incredible sandwiches made right there. Also they have pizza! The staff was nice and helpful. My new favorite spot.

Deanne H.

Yelp
Seriously the best sandwiches ever. I wish they had gluten free sand which option! They are giant! Worth every penny. The store is well stocked as well with a variety of gluten free options and product.

Victoria S.

Yelp
Just beware! Even if you order your sandwich 1hr before picking it up and get a time to pick up, you'll still have to wait! Walk ins come in and will get their orders before your on line order. This was on a Thursday and was given 1245 pickup but it wasn't ready until 1320.... Go figure! The sandwiches are excellent! But a lady before me opened all of hers up before leaving. Obviously they've messed up orders in the past

Vince M.

Yelp
They have the best deli sandwiches around! My wife and I went there a month ago about lunch time and bought a couple of freshly made deli sandwiches. I am a big eater and so I got a large one and she got a 1/2 sized one. We were totally and pleasantly surprised when they handed them to us. They are huge! I swear mine had an inch thick pile of sliced turkey in it. We ended up having so much left over that we ate the leftovers for lunch the next day. Not only are they huge, but very tasty with super fresh ingredients. We know where to go for lunch next time we are in Tahoma.

Christian S.

Yelp
The market is generally great for quick things, beer, ice, etc., and the sandwiches are delicious. But do not place an online order! We ordered online and it said 90 minutes- okay, seemed like a long time but we rolled with it. Arrived at stated pick up time, sandwiches not started. Waited half an hour before they even began and even then we got tired of waiting and decided to come back later. They don't even start it until you arrive and even then you will be behind any walk-ins. Watching the person make our sandwiches was like watching grass grow. And then they left in the middle of the order to go restock. Save yourself the hassle and order in person. Honestly, we were so irritated I wish I just would have asked for a refund.

ade a.

Yelp
To put it simply, The sweetest people work here. The food is good. Whatever you need to get just go to tahoma market. It's convenient and kind. Plus, the surroundings/ambiance is quite delightful. 10/10-5 stars

Danielle F.

Yelp
I can't speak for the deli but as far as the market is concerned, it's nice and spacious with plenty of options if you don't to go into Tahoe City. The pricing isn't as outrageous as the market by Sunnyside so it's a viable market option. The deli does have donuts and fresh coffee that we enjoyed.

Heather W.

Yelp
So sad and disappointed that the sandwiches aren't what they used to be. The renovations look nice but I miss the build-your-own sandwich bar.

Continental Nick W.

Yelp
The spot has been through some changes in the last few years (RIP movie rentals). The Market is bougie and expensive, but what's important is that the sandwiches are still incredible, and at $14.88, a pretty good deal as far as Tahoe fare goes. They now offer online ordering and you can select a pickup time and skip the line. Just order at least 1.5 hour in advance . When you arrive, walk right up to the counter and get the attention of one of the sandwich makers. The place was packed, and we were in and out in no time.

James M.

Yelp
Clean, organized, friendly, clean restrooms, great selection of everything ... the only drawback is no Coke products . Would be happy to come back anytime. Five Stars.

Tami B.

Yelp
Great recommendation by our bike rental company! Famous for its breads/sandwiches. Food ordered: Roast beef sandwich on white: excellent Turkey on pesto with spicy brown: good, but more bread than meat Turkey on jalapeño cheese bread with Swiss: okay (I ordered a half, got a whole by mistake which would normally be a bonus, but it had MAYO ...Mayo is an absolute deal breaker for me. I literally gag at the taste. Since it was only on the bottom side I was able to eat the two top halves.). It's an honest mistake but for someone who cannot have Mayo it was a little disappointing. My husband thinks it's crazy that I specify no Mayo everywhere so I didn't today. I will in the future. Half sandwich is definitely enough for one person! Would highly recommend, especially for bike riders going from Tahoe City to Sugar Pine to eat by the water!
