A Hub for All Things Agave Spirits Is Coming to National City | Eater San Diego

"Opening in February at National City's Parco complex, this boutique — an extension of Tahona in Old Town and Tahona Baja and the brand's third location after branches in San Francisco and Tijuana — is dedicated to spotlighting traditional mezcal producers in and around Oaxaca. Operated by Be Saha Hospitality Group (whose founder Amar Harrag has developed bars and restaurants including Wormwood, Botanica, and Oculto 477), the 500-square-foot retail store is designed to resemble a living room and will display a collection of mezcal and other agave spirits alongside Mexican crafts and snacks; it also features a tasting area for sampling lesser-seen bottles and will host educational events." - Candice Woo

Tijuana’s Essential Bars and Restaurants to Check Out | Eater San Diego

"Tahona planted its flag on Tijuana’s Calle Sexta earlier his year, establishing the largest mezcal bottle selection on the lively downtown strip. Stop in to sip on a few of the over 300 top shelf selections from Mexico’s best regarded distillers. The shop side of the business offers a large selection of bottles to take home with chocolates from Chiapas and other Mexican bites and crafts." - Mario A. Cortez

San Diego’s Tahona Bar Opening Mezcal Tasting Room and Bottle Shop in Tijuana Mercado Mezcal Bar | Eater San Diego

"Just around the corner at 1248 Avenida Constitucion, bottle shop Tahona Mercado will stock a large selection of agave spirits and other Mexican items — including chocolate sourced from Chiapas and crafts from Mexico’s southern states — and will serve as the company’s distribution headquarters; creating that distribution model was important because there was previously no direct channel or distributor representing mezcal producers in Oaxaca, so the company contacted the makers to build a link between Tijuana and Oaxaca." - Mario A. We went to the store front in downtown Tijuana and they took us to the tasting room around the corner. In the tasting room there is about 5-6 bar seats and then about 4 tables behind. There are a ton of Mezcal pairings but I think we did the Intro ones because we didn't really know anything about Mezcal. I ended up having: Derrumbes from Michoacan, Lagrimas De Dolores Verde from Durango, Real Minero from Oaxaca and Macuricho Espadin from Oaxaca. My buddy ended up having: Rey Campero from Oaxaca, Derrumbes from San Luis Potosi, Lagrimas De Dolores I'Gok from Durango and Animas from Oaxaca. I learned I am not a big Mezcal fan but I did enjoy Derrumbes from Michoacan, Rey Campero from Oaxaca and Derrumbes from San Luis Potosi. We also got some food pairings for the tastings like: cheese, guava, chocolate, oranges, etc. Overall it was a great experience, the host was very knowledgeable and let us also taste a Rattlesnack Mezcal. Would recommend this place for Mezcal tasting.

Marco, our host, was bilingual and knowledgeable about Mezcal. We started in main shop and ended our visit at Private Tasting room and the corner at another location.

Had a little time to kill before a dinner reservation and decided to stop by this mezcal tasting room. My girlfriend and I decided to do the 4 mezcals tasting. They have a really great selection of mezcals and Valerie was a rockstar even though it was her first time doing the tasting in English for us. Would highly recommend to any mezcal enthusiasts!
