TAI ER (Jewel Changi Airport)

Things Went Sour Tai Er served a pretty good bowl of suan cai yu, or what most would know as sauerkraut fish. It’s hard to complain when the dish is good, the service excellent, and you even get complimentary flower tea. They serve their suan cai yu in a hot pot that is bright and balanced, not overly sour, with just the right spicy kick from the mala pepper. The fish slices were silky, tender, and cut into perfect bite-sized pieces for rice. What I appreciated most was the balance between oil and broth, making the entire dish palatable from start to finish. The rest of the dishes were great too. They weren’t shy with the mala pepper on the green beans, and the beef came sizzling in a piping hot wok. Overall, a solid suan cai yu experience with great presentation and excellent service.

This place serves one of my favourite sauerkraut fish dishes in Singapore. I’m not entirely sure if they use Snakehead, but it certainly tastes like it — firm, clean-tasting flesh without any hint of muddiness, easily one of the best freshwater fish choices. No surprise that this dish is their signature. The chicken in chili oil (口水鸡) is excellent as well, and the French beans with minced meat are equally delicious. What I really appreciate is their consistency — every visit, the food quality remains high, and I’ve never once had a dish that fell flat. Service is another strong point: always prompt, attentive, and welcoming. Full marks from me — this spot never disappoints.

As usual, we went for the sauerkraut fish soup. It’s still flavourful and tasty, though a bit on the salty side. Would be even better if there was a spicy version with option to adjust the spicy level. The cold steamed spicy chicken and sautéed hand shredded cabbage were both delicious, though portions were a little small. Stir fried green bean wuth minced pork was decent too. Enjoyed the free fragrant jasmine hot tea, though I do miss the nice rosella flower tea offered at other branches. Service was prompt and efficient. A solid place for a flavour packed meal.

Still one of the best sauerkraut fish you can find out there. Food quality may vary with different outlets, but Jewel outlet has been a steady one. We have brought so many groups of friends and family here and the food consistently impress our guests. The 小炒肉 however, was not great, so do avoid ordering it.

The signature dish was rich in flavor, though on the saltier side. Fortunately, the staff recommended adding some soup stock, which balanced the taste nicely. Ordered the small spicy suan cai version, and the portion was very generous, easily enough for 3 to 4 people. I prefer the choice of fish here as compared to beautiful lai grilled fish. The service was excellent, and the overall dining experience was very enjoyable. I look forward to revisiting to try more dishes on the menu.

decent 酸菜鱼，not the best I have ever tasted but still good enough to satisfy craving. it was not crowded when we visited on a weekend afternoon hence no queue at all however it was quite a wait for the dishes. dining atmosphere was quite cozy and comfortable. service crew is friendly however reciting their scripts when presenting the dishes doesn't feel genuine.

Let me introduce my personal favourite in TaiEr: 1) Chinese Saukeraut Fish light and flavourful — not oily at all, and they’re really generous with the amount of tender fish slices. 2) Pepper studded little crispy pork & stir-fried green beans with minced pork are both incredibly fragrant and satisfying. 3) Roselle tea — you can choose hot or iced, add dried tangerine peel, and best of all, enjoy unlimited refills. Highly recommend this place!
