Find Black Truffle and Curry-Filled Sheng Jian Bao at This New SGV Pop-Up | Eater LA

"On a quiet tree-lined street in El Monte near a couple of auto parts stores, I visited Little Pan-Fried Bun’s pop-up at 10627 Main Street and found they whip up Chinese sheng jian bao with real skill — the traditional buns (filled with ground pork and gelatin that melts into soup when cooked, then pan-fried on the bottom) come out crispy on the base, juicy and pillowy soft, often thought of as the pan-fried cousins of xiao long bao. They do the classic well and push it further with creative fillings like curry pork, corn cheese, purple yam and cheese, and even a 24K gold black truffle variety; the menu also includes seafood pancake, oxtail soup with tomato, millet congee, and puff pastries filled with durian, hawthorn, and jujube. Inside, a white statue of Atlas holds the world on his shoulders against light-gray walls decorated with a modern mural of Chinese characters, and the operation — which also has a permanent location in Santa Ana and was started by China native Vicky Liu, who studied business at UC Riverside — is open Tuesday to Sunday from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 8 p.m." - Jean Trinh

new favorite chinese place The BBQ pork is awesome and you get an awesome amount of food on your plate. The old men who works at the counter is accomodating and the lobby where you eat is big and spacious with loungey sofas.

We love this place. I’ve been going there for years never had an unpleasant experience. The food is always so so delicious and the family and employees that work. There are just always so kind.

Food is good and low price! However... The atmosphere can be slightly outdated. Extra charge for card use. The restrooms need a special token to enter, which means you will have to bother the ones serving the food... Other than that, we definitely recommend it! The Tai Pan restaurant has a variety of entries that will make your tastebuds satisfied. We got the 3 entry and a boba drink for only barely $11! Not bad for the price. The boba is good. It does not have lots of sugar like other places do. Plenty of parking, they serve your food in seconds.

Employees are nice and food is decent. Huge portions and you can order a combination of white rice, fried rice, or chow mein. I personally like the mushroom chicken the most. Don't come here right at open like I did. They only had about 1/3 of the dishes ready. I recommend coming in half an hour after opening.

I've been eating there & Take out about 25years. Never had any issues , with the owner or staff. Sometimes a bit hard to understand. Not a problem. Prices are right the food is great. If your hungry & in El Monte & in the mood for Chinese. You can't miss. Really.
