The 25 Best Chinese Restaurants in Los Angeles - Eater LA

"Tai Ping Sa Choi Kee is a Guangzhou-based chain specializing in beef brisket noodle soup as well as other Cantonese fare. Those willing to look beyond the surface will be rewarded with a fantastic meal. Must-order dishes include the hand-shredded chicken and the salt and pepper wings lightly fried with garlic, chopped onion, and peppers. Drizzle the house-made spicy chile crisp over everything." - Kristie Hang

Google
Wonderful little hole in the wall Cantonese-style Chinese food. It's unassuming, but the dishes were all done well! Everything we ordered was excellent. My favorite dish was the salt and pepper fried cod. It was fried so well as the batter was different that most places I've tried. Thre restuarant received a stamp of approval from my parents and grandparents, which says a lot as we're from the region. The staff were very warm and attentive and super helpful! The prices were very reasonable as well. They do have some off-menu items, so you can ask about those. All-in-all, this is a solid Cantonese spot and I can definitely see this being a usual place for my family.

Wow, this is the best food ever! My family and I visited after seeing on social media that the restaurant might close soon. We ordered the salt and pepper fish, shrimp cakes, orange chicken, shrimp fried rice, and a delicious stew. Everything was incredible; my family and I couldn't get enough. We're definitely returning soon. The flavors and the perfect crunch of the fried food were outstanding. The staff made us feel right at home--so welcoming and friendly. One of the servers helped us select dishes and offered great suggestions; I loved every single thing she recommended. I highly recommend you visit Hacienda Heights and enjoy this fantastic food.

Google
Finally made it here after seeing the viral videos. The food did not disappoint. We ordered the shrimp cakes, chicken wings, fried cod, lo mein with beef brisket, green beans with pork. We loved it ALL and had plenty to take home after. Not to mention the chicken broth on the side was crazy flavorful and even the iced tea was so delicious. Our server was SO kind and friendly and was very helpful in deciding what to order, even advising best way to heat up our leftovers. Tysm! All the food is made to order and the chef is the owner, so you can really taste the love in the food and service. Looking forward to coming back to try the shredded chicken! 🫶

Google
Came here from a tik tok review and it was insanely good!! The salt and pepper fish is really the star. I was floored and wondering how I went my whole life without having it. The chilis with it are 10/10. Perfectly salted, it needs nothing added to it. It’s been a week since my visit and I’m already thinking about going back for that fish. I want to try so much more. The staff is amazing too. the woman who took my order told me to try a piece before I left to eat it crispy, she was right !

Google
The beef brisket noodle perfectly balancing the tangy and beef flavors that are synonymous with Cantonese cuisine. The freshness of the ingredients was evident in every bite. Opting for the half chicken dish, we were treated to a delightful presentation enhanced by the aromatic blend of ginger and scallions. The tender chicken skin, which effortlessly melted in our mouths, served as a hallmark of authentic Cantonese culinary expertise. Additionally, the clay pot rice with ribs showcased impeccable timing in its preparation, delivering a perfect balance of crispy and crunchy rice burns. Tai Ping Sa Choi Kee is a rare gem that manages to seamlessly blend exemplary service with an unwavering commitment to authenticity. It's not just a restaurant; it's an experience that transports you to the vibrant streets of Canton with every mouthful. It is an absolute must-visit.

Google
Cozy Guangzhou style restaurant. Service is good. The owner will suggest their famous dishes but not everyone can accept her. Prices are reasonable. Sausage clay pot rice is very delicious. Beef Entrails are good despite no bad texture. Overall the food has a light flavor to me but is good to others. Probably come back to try other items in the future.

Wednesday 10/29/25 Lunch at Tai Ping Sa Choi Kee with my friend Erwin. Ordered the shredded pork gravy style chow fun, yang chow fried rice, and fried garlic chicken wings. Delicious and classic Chinese style with great wok he (charred) flavor. May and Wendy, mother-daughter team, were friendly, hospitable, and working hard to serve customers. Thank you May & Wendy. I highly recommend this restaurant. Try it out and see what you were missing in authentic Chinese wok he cooking and foods. David Young Restaurant Enthusiast

Google
Soooo good for authentic Cantonese food! My favorite dishes were the XO sauce rice rolls and the beef brisket noodle soup. The rice rolls were soft in the inside with a slight crispiness from being pan-fried. The beef brisket was tender and the broth had great flavor. Ok and their CHILI OIL. Excellent. I think they make it in-house. It has a nice, roasted chili pepper flavor and definitely packs a punch. The service was amazing. We called in advance for a party of 7 and they had our table ready right when we walked in. We were treated so kindly by the servers and the food came out quickly. Note that it does take longer for the rice pots and the rice rolls to come out. Ambience was lively but comfortable. Good for a party of 2 or 12. You can bet I’ll be here the next time my family and I are craving some Cantonese food.

Yelp
Me and my family enjoy coming here often for their Spare Ribs with Garlic and Minced Beef & Coriander Fried Noodle dishes. I personally also like their Beef Pan Fried Crispy Noodles, the presentation is very nice. The service is pretty fast and you don't have too wait long for your food after ordering, although it can get busy during lunch hour. The servers themselves are also nice and they clean often.

Rikku K.

Yelp
The food was really good and the service was as well. The ladies there were very patient and took care of our big party.

Yelp
Wings- Yummy! Wonton Noodles Soup- Love it! Service was excellent... Our server was very sweet and attentive. Definitely coming back because I want to try the clay pot rice
google avatar

Chris K.

Yelp
Extremely low value. Went there for lunch and ordered the beef offal rice. The portion is wayyyy too small, except the rice. only 5-6 pieces of offal and that was it. The chef needs to have more control on the portion as their lunch dishes can't even feed an average size person.
google avatar

Tina P.

Yelp
My husband and I really like this place. I cannot recall the name of the soup we tried and that was really tasty and I really like the pan-fried crispy noodles. It has a nice crunch to it with enough sauce. We still have yet to try other dishes.
google avatar

Miranda Y.

Yelp
I came here for lunch with because of a radio advertisement. Tried their Wonton Noodle Soup and was not satisfied due to the texture of the noodles. Some are not evenly cooked and not chewy as expected. Service was okay since they only have two servers. The restaurant have limited seating and it can be packed at lunch..

Yelp
Before visiting this restaurant, I would suggest ensuring that you are up to date on your tetanus shots. The wooden lattice dividers between the tables have exposed rusted staples and nails, which pose a safety hazard. I accidentally scraped my arm on one of them. Nonetheless, we sampled the crispy fried beef noodles and preserved meat in a clay pot and found the food to be well-prepared, although the portion sizes were on the smaller side. Despite the restaurant not being very busy, the service was a bit slow.

Javier D.

Yelp
Love coming here! Been a loyal customer for three years ever since they were in their Rowland Heights location. No other restaurant compares to their crispy fried noodles, and they are also famous for their beef brisket, wonton noodles, and salt and pepper wings. Next time I will have to remember to take a photo before destroying the plate!

Yelp
I am so glad that this place reopened to a bigger location. I love their beef stew noodles and the shredded chicken! It is very traditional for canto ppl. They get busy and sometimes they will close for lunch break so make sure you call before hand. The staff is nice and they offer so many dishes not just noodles soup! It's worth to try!
google avatar

Yelp
Same from the Hong Kong plaza, simple and authentic. Their chilly sauce isn't to be kid around. Just a tiny bit will give the kick in your taste buds. Their tripes is my favorite, really braised the flavor well.
google avatar

James L.

Yelp
Again! You better not try the rice noodle they had! Hear this thing if the food teased not good! What you going to do? Photos not going to tell you how tease! I'm not said the place! Here was clean and nice! You guy just need change the chef Take my message.
google avatar

Ben G.

Yelp
Our favorite go-to Cantonese restaurant! The food tastes homemade, consistently good, and service always comes with a smile. We have been loyal patrons from when they were still in Hong Kong Plaza in Rowland Heights, and glad they reopened in Hacienda Heights. Our favorites include their Traditional Poached Chicken, Salt & Pepper Chicken Wings, Claypot Rice and Sweet and Sour Pork. All are excellent!
google avatar

Cathy H.

Yelp
I tried this spot after hearing about it recently opening. They still have their soft opening banner up. This is traditional Cantonese food. I gave it a few chances, and I would have to say, the food is decent. Not great but not bad either. For example, some of the dishes are on the salty side, while some are a little on the bland side, like the wontons. The portions are on the smaller side for the price you pay.

Yelp
We had to venture out of our usual restaurants because not many were open on Christmas Day. We're so glad we tried this place! The service was fast and friendly, and the food was authentic and awesome. It easily outshines the rest in an area filled with many different types of Chinese cuisines. Don't let the unassuming facade fool you; the food is truly excellent. This will definitely become one of our go-to restaurants from now on.

Yelp
Great authentic cantonese food. Our family of 10 came here for our first 2024 meal. The waitress was super sweet. She was making really great recommendations. The food was excellent - the brisket was to die for, so tender and flavorful. The other item is the chicken clay pot rice which was so authentic and food. We will come back again to try other food.
google avatar

Lola S.

Yelp
Food is good because we knew this place when they were in Rowland Heights. I am so happy they moved to this area since it's walking distance from my house and parking is super convenient. Great service like always! I just suggest their phone number to yelp.
google avatar

Amy C.

Yelp
Authentic Cantonese-style dishes!!! I ordered the Lo Mein w/ Braised Beef Brisket & Wonton, Preserved Meat Rice in Claypot, and Salt & Pepper Chicken Wings. They were all sooo delicious. Also, their Lemon Black Tea is good! I always order that same drink and their chicken wings every time I come here to eat (:
google avatar

Yelp
This new place is right next to JJ bakery on Hacienda. This place will start to get busy after 6pm! They specialize in noodle soups so perfect for cold weather. Expect some delay in service as this place still new and haven't developed a system, but worth the wait!
google avatar

R K.

Yelp
Food was ok....portions were on the smaller side. Delivery of food was very uneven. Soup noodles came out first before the brisket lo mein and salt and pepper wings. Service was adequate...typical Chinese. I don't think I will return.
google avatar

Eric L.

Yelp
This place has solid HK diner food. Their beef brisket noodles are consistently good and always come out super hot, the way it should be. They also have exceptional spicy salt chicken wings and garlic spare ribs.

Mrs Y.

Yelp
I used to dine in & take out from their previous Rowland Hts locations and they were fine. Here is my review on 2 takeout items: 1) YangChow Fried Rice - Bland and very small portion. 1/5 2) Fried noodle w cucumber & bacon - Taste is ok but portion is small. 2/5 There are other better choices in the area.

xena y.

Yelp
Ambiance, normal Chinese restaurant. Not too bright not too noisy. Food are ok. Need a lot of improvement... a few dishes are super salty. A dish wonton mein tasted brand. Service, nice friendly and faster. Drinks milk tea and lemon tea are refilling once only. Here is one disappointment I have. I was asking for an empty cup to take the left over drink, and it was a 50 cents charge. WTH, 50 cents charge??? With all the food I ordered. Here is the tip. You are new opening, you should give up that .50 cents and think of this will be your long time customer instead of charging every little bits of things. Over all 2 stars for the fast seat, and a fried flat noodles.

Yelp
By far the worst service we have ever received. We were sat down and given menus after that we didn't receive any attention, no drink orders to even start off with. After us four tables were sat down and they placed their orders, yet we didn't get any attention. We politely asked for service then placed our full orders. Still waited for another few mins for our drinks and nothing. We should of left right off the first time being ignored but we tried to be polite and understand that they might of overlooked us the first time but no that was a deliberate move of not wanting to service us. As for the ambiance it's a modern look but it is cold and they leave their dirty dishes close to the tables being served. By far the rudest I've ever been TREATED. I CANT say served since we never got anything real service.

Yelp
Quick service, reasonably priced, nice casual atmosphere. Nice for a work lunch break. Had the house special beef noodle soup and it was delicious.
google avatar

Jeanette F.

Yelp
We attended a party for friends and I was so happy with the quality of the dish selection and the taste of each dish. We had Beef & Broccoli, the beef was so tender and broccoli was al dente. The flavors were just right. The Orange Chicken was great too. The chicken was tender on the inside, crispy on the outside and the sauce was tangy, perfect sweetness. The fried rice and Egg Fried Noodles were the nice basics to our dish. I would definitely use them for a party or just go to the restaurant .

Brandon D.

Yelp
If you're in the mood for some good Cantonese food this is the place to be! I would recommend ordering beef pan fried noodles or the salt and pepper chicken wings.

Roni S.

Yelp
Glad we finally tried this place. We've been looking for a good local Chinese food place. We usually go over the hill to Silver Palace. We loved their garlic ribs, salt n pepper wings, and ginger scallion beef. Chow Mein was decent too. We did take out.

Yelp
Tonight we, a party of 5, came here for dinner around 6 pm. It wasn't too crowded, there were a few customers and orders to go. While we were still waiting for one more coworker, we basically already ordered our food, the waitress are really nice and told us if we wanted the clay pot rice, we should order it now since it takes about 20 minutes. We ordered about 7 different dishes to share since is a sit down family style restaurant. And is more cozy to share since we all work together. Overall, I think the food is really good and the service was fast, our food came out one after another, by the time our other coworker showed up, it was just the right time to eat. I like 6 out of the 7 items, the House special lamb brisket in casserole was my least favorite only cuz I'm not used to eating boiled lamb, I like lamb chops though lol. The salty shredded chicken was a little too salty for me, my favorite would be the # 31 minced beef fried noodles, that's good, is crunchy noodles with meat gravy sauce, it looks like a pancake with meat when it comes out lol drinks are only 1 free refills but you can have all the water hot or cold for free lol I like the dining area, is sleek and clean. The young waitress was really nice, she helped us took a couple of group pictures, refilled our drinks. I would definitely come back and recommend this restaurant. Is a soft opening so give them some time to better the service and add some of the drinks on the menu cuz a couple of the drinks they don't have yet. Still a hot lemon honey tea is pretty good too

Cilla P.

Yelp
I ordered the Singapore noodles and omg it was so good! Loved it. I live about an hour away and I want to make a drive down there again just to order those noodles and also try their stewed beef brisket I heard that was their speciality. Can't wait to go back.
google avatar

Jodie T.

Yelp
Loved their food from their previous location. I was so excited to find out they re-opened at this new location now! Place is bigger and nicer now. Food is good as always. Everyone is trying their best to get used to new location and new setup. I am sure things will run smoothly soon. Will be visiting frequently.
google avatar

Turtle D.

Yelp
I used to eat at their old location from time to time and heard they relocated recently. The food quality is still the same and is very good comfort cantonese food. I like that the new location is bigger and more comfortable now. I will definitely come back again.

Zoe W.

Yelp
Beef Brisket Noodle Soup and Beef Entrails Noodle Soup are goooood!! Wonton is so so.
google avatar

Di L.

Yelp
Really loved their house special beef brisket noodle soup and eggplant casserole. Will come back again.

Chris T.

Yelp
The beef noodle soup looked like it would be bland but it was surprisingly tasty. I don't think anything here send you to the moon but it's good for what it is when you're looking for Cantonese food.

Cary G.

Yelp
Amazingly delicious and authentic Cantonese beef noodle soup place. They don't offer a gigantic menu, but instead focus on the best. Clay pot rice, beef noodle soup, wonton noodle, crispy vermicelli!

Rachel Z.

Yelp
Poor service, long wait and unable to place order correctly. Even for to go, still long wait and ordered for whole shredded chicken only receive half of it, which only contains one chicken wing.
google avatar

Andy Z.

Yelp
Went there during lunch and was seated very quickly. The restaurant had good ambience and is very clean. The food here was very good and they have a big selection of different foods. Overall the service was friendly and well received. Since they're in their soft opening phase expect some small delays and lag, don't be a prick like Frenchy J over exaggerating some nonsense. The waitress with blonde short hair is very friendly and accommodating to my needs.
google avatar

Ricky L.

Yelp
knowing they reopened the restaurant in city of industry. got there a bit early and easily got the table. noodle was good as before. this place is bigger than the old one, sitting environment is comfortable. will go back for other dishes.

Irene W.

Yelp
We are frequent customers when the restaurant was in Rowland Heights Foods are all delicious n with good services Wonton soup, beef brisket with Daikon, Singapore rice noodles, bitter melon fried with eggs, beef flat noodles n chicken wings are all so yummy

Hock N.

Yelp
Been here 2Xs now because of convenience and happy to read about their "noodles." Closest competitor ought to be New Kim Tar for us in this nearborhood. Was hoping they have more veggie dishes (On Choi/dou miao..the basic), more selection of noodle soup (seafood..it's common) and fried hor fun/mee "wet" sauce/gravy type (this is a must for me, asked for it but they gave me the crispy noodle). Would love to see more entree selections, too. Not used to their Ginger Scallion Beef (very wet and thin sauce, probably forgot corn starch); not complaining, though; just their style, I guess. Will come again more because of convenience. Will definitely come frequently if they have more selections, (thus 3 stars).

Esther Z.

Yelp
Really like their new location. Better ambiance than when they were located in the Rowland Heights location! Food is peak comfort Cantonese food, really enjoy their HK style beef noodle soup and their house special chili oil is delicious

Brandon B.

Yelp
The food was amazing! Great for catering and feeding lots of people. We catered for a large group and everyone was satisfied with every dish!
google avatar

Bree L.

Yelp
food here is so good!! we got catering for our wedding rehearsal dinner and everyone loved it so much. i had so many people come up to me and ask where i got the food. thank u so much tai ping sa choi kee!

Kalen C.

Yelp
Two stars are for the staff cuz they are working really hard to take orders from each table. I personally do not like the food at all. I think you guys should give it a try and find out. Normally I do not give harsh review so I just write what reflect to me only. 2 stars for the food. I ordered the wonton soup and beef stew noodle and salt and pepper calamari. Wonton soup tastes heavily on sesame oil and the wonton tasted very blend and missing shrimp favor. Since I m a hongkonger that's why I compare to Hong Kong's flavor. the beef stew was a little too tough to chew. Like I said before this is just my personal preference, and it's not fair to say don't try it! I do recommend others to try it.

Wing T.

Yelp
Food came out fast, beef brisket is so yummy, Al dente noodle sand pair with BEST chili sauce. 10 Stars

Yo M.

Yelp
Went to the restaurant for the first time and the waiter recommended the beef brisket and salted shredded chicken. Absolutely amazing! So much flavor with every bite. Will come again!
