"A constant in the heart of downtown Cary’s rapidly growing dining scene, Taipei 101 serves Taiwanese, Sichuan, and Zhejiang fare in a casual atmosphere. The Chinese restaurant is a Cary mainstay, known for its generous portion sizes, scallion beef pancake roll, and soup dumplings." - Sarah Day Owen Wiskirchen

18 Best Chinese Restaurants in the Triangle | Eater Carolinas

"Specializing in both Sichuan and Taiwanese cuisine, Taepei101 has been a mainstay of the Triangle’s Asian dining scene for years. Start the meal with the jellyfish cucumber carrot salad, alongside the golden and black mushroom soup (which also comes with bamboo shoots). There’s Chongqing chicken, maocai streaky beef, cumin lamb, and more on the Szechuan side. An abbreviated dim sum menu is available for those looking to recreate a Taiwanese dim sum experience. The cold pot fish fillet (a chef’s special) is definitely worth checking out — in China, there are entire restaurants dedicated to this one dish." - Matt Lardie

Yelp
Reasonable rates to choose from, depending upon the levels you'd like to visit. The evening views are gorgeous - so do time your visit right to enjoy it! No fear bringing the whole family - there are many photo ops for the young and old. However- I may be wrong, but there is a level that requires several flights of stairs to visit. Several of our group have bad knees and it was not an easy walk up or down. I don't know if there was an elevator for wheelchairs. There's several gift, souvenir, food, and beverage shops, thank goodness! It was a very enjoyable visit! If you're traveling solo, rest assured someone will help you take those photos! Note there is usually a line;).

Yelp
It is interesting that Taipei 101 has three Yelp listings: one for "Taipei 101"; one for "Taipei 101 shopping center" and one for "Taipei 101 observatory". I am posting here, because I am touching on three aspects. The Food Hall :: (5-Stars - I browsed the food options, and ate there) The lower levels of Taipei 101 hosts a vibrant assortment of food hawkers. Prices are higher than if you ate on the street like a local; but from a tourist's perspective, food options and corresponding prices are very good. The food hall is the most affordable entertainment in Taipei 101, and you will see a wide variety of visitors. The Shopping Center :: (4-Stars - I was impressed with the collection) I think that this is where the Taipei branch of Crazy Rich Asians come to play. And while I have heard the term "luxury brand" before, I learned a new term: "opulence brands". I believe that most visitors will window shop; but it is an impressive assembly of brands. The Observatory :: (3-Stars - I did it just to say I was there) A bit of context: I was in Taipei for four days; and it rained all four days. On my last day in Taipei, I decided to just go up, even if there might be limited visibility. The observatory does provide a good 360 view; but for some, looking at views has limited entertainment value. I think that management knows this; so they've created a lot of opportunities (props, dioramas) for visitors to take selfies.

Yelp
Taipei 101 is one of those iconic landmarks you have to visit at least once while you're in Taiwan. It's more than just a skyscraper--it has a full food court, high-end shopping, a grocery store, and of course, the famous 360° observation deck. I kept trying to go on a clear day, but the weather wasn't on my side. Eventually, we gave in and went on a rainy day. Our observation deck reservation was at 5 PM so we did a little late shopping, grabbed some food, and roamed around. When you enter the area to go up to the observation deck, the staff takes a photo of you (typical tourist-style) that you can buy later. We also paid extra for access to the very top floor. When we first arrived at the top, it was raining, but luckily it stopped after about five minutes--just enough time to get a beautiful, clear view of the city, mountains, and skyline. Once the rain came back, visibility dropped fast. They post a notice at the entrance letting you know what the current visibility is--ours said "poor," so we knew what to expect. As we were leaving, we spotted CREMIA soft serve and got way too excited--it's originally from Japan and it's so good. Worth grabbing if you see it. Overall, Taipei 101 is a cool experience, especially if it's your first time in Taiwan. Would I do the observation deck again? Probably not--once was enough for me. But if the skies are clear, it's worth checking out for the view.

Yelp
This spot is such a landmark it's hard to pass it. Even though in reality I really didn't think it was anything special. I have seen too many buildings and malls, I am kinda just numb about these things unless they really work on making it culturally attractive. That said, the area around it is a good stroll to check out the town.

Yelp
If you are in Taiwan, this is definitely a place to visit. It has a shopping center, huge food court and observatory. Beautiful building, interesting place to visit.

Yelp
We couldn't have a first time trip to Taipei without a stop at Taipei 101. After dining at the mall nearby, we made our way to this 101-story skyscraper. We got our tickets on Klook. We were able to redeem them at the service desk without any issue. From there, we got into line for the elevator. There wasn't much of a wait. Less than five minutes. They make sure the elevators are packed before going off. It definitely goes fast - my ears felt full. We arrived at the 89th floor. Great view all around of Taipei. There are also some themed areas. At the time we went, the most memorable ones were a wildlife section featuring the nature of the surrounding area and a gundam section. There are some cafes and gift shops too if you're looking for a bite or some souvenirs. The 91st floor was where we went next. The weather was nice so we got to have an outside experience of Taipei 101. However, only one section of this floor was open. There's an additional inside area that features exhibits of the original construction and celebrations throughout the year showcasing Taipei 101. We made our way to the 88th floor at the end. This floor mainly features the mass damper. Impressive feat of engineering! Also, the exit elevator is here. I likely won't be back if it were just me or the same crowd, but I definitely think it's worth the visit!

Yelp
This is a review for the vip lounge. My friend brought me up here and you can order complimentary beverages and a la carte food for purchase. Guest can come up to relax with a drink. They occasionally have activities or exhibitions in the facility that you can enjoy. Members also receive free parking for 6 hours.

Yelp
Super convenient from the MRT red line. Everything is well maintained. Restrooms are clean And modern. Lots of great shops and a convenient sky bridge walkway to Shin Kong shopping area.

Yelp
So I really want to give this one 4.5 stars, but get that it is rather iconic so we'll let slide with five. Seriously, it is something that you should do at least once, as the views are great and you'll have bragging rights. However, beyond that, I can't really see myself going to the top again. Still, if you had kids, I think this one would be a winner
google avatar

Yelp
Lots of shops, European imports, and eateries, including the infamous Ding Tai Fung for the best steamed buns. At one time it was the tallest building in the world, with offices on the higher floors. Amazing fireworks show for the new years.

Yelp
What a cool experience! That elevator ride is insanely fast! We did the 101F. This got us the 89th floor where you get panoramic views with several themed areas to pose and take photos. On the 89th floor you also get to see the top of the giant damper ball. There is a stair well where you can drop down to the 88th floor to get a side-by-side view of the damper ball. With our 101F ticket we got to go up to the 101 floor via another elevator located in the gift shop. We had a time slot to make (12-1pm). They only allow so many people at a time, so it felt like we had the whole floor to ourselves, even though there were four or five other groups up there too. All around great experience!

Yelp
Yelp suggests starting the new year with a January review... So let's celebrate 2025 with a review on the famous Taipei 101 - a truly memorable spot in Taipei for new year countdown -- with outdoor performances, fireworks and lots of great vibes. Taipei 101 stands for a landmark building in Taiwan, and also known as a high end mall. 「台北 101」is also fondly referred by locals to represent the surrounding business area with hip choices to meet for dates, to hang out for coffee, and to bring visitors for photos and a bite -- a good place for fine dining, retail therapy, and people watching :) IMO, Taipei 101 can be noted as one of the happiest place in Taiwan to be on New Year's Eve. Despite my usual preference to avoid crowds and long lineups, I am almost always amazed at how I enjoy the firework music and countdown spirit when I join the 101 crowds. It's definitely easy to feel the new year buzz and excitement at Taipei 101. Cheers to 2025 -- Happy start to a happy new year!

Yelp
If you're in Taipei, it's the building is hard to miss. The 101-story skyscraper is the tallest building in Taiwan. It houses offices, restaurants, shops, and indoor and outdoor observatories. We didn't go up to the observatories, but walked around the mall. At night the tower's lights displays a different colors depending on the day of the week.

Yelp
The food court has many wonderful selections to satisfy all comers; however, it was always a challenge to find a table during mealtime. Will have to make at least a couple more trips to try out other delicious cuisines from Vietnam, Hong Kong, Singapore, etc.

Yelp
Ah, the iconic Taipei 101! The world-renowned skyscraper that graces the gorgeous green lush landscape of Taiwan. Anyone can instantly identify Taipei's skyline with Taipei 101. It's known as the "world's tallest green building" and has been a leader in sustainable skyscraper development, known for implement energy efficiency, water conservation, and green roofs. The architecture is also absolutely gorgeous and elegant, combining the best of Chinese elements with sleek modern design. Most of the floors are occupied by businesses, though the ground floor and the shopping and tourist areas are vast and have a lot to offer! For example, there's a giant food court in the basement area, and there's halls after halls of luxury shops that rivals with luxury shops along the Las Vegas Strip. You can also go up Taipei 101 and enjoy such gorgeous 360 views of Taipei, offering both vibrant cityscapes and lush green mountains. A must-visit when here in Taipei!

Yelp
I came around 45 minutes prior to sunset time and bought my ticket directly at the counter. First, the entrance of this place is within the mall and I didn't find any direct escalators that took me there. Once you got off an escalator, you had to walk to another place in the mall to get on the next set up of up-escalators Once I got out of the subway station, I started following the signs and one sign pointed towards this direct and when I walked toward it, it led to a set of dimly lit stairs and I was very confused. I ended up just trying to take the escalators up and finding more signage, but then the signage seemed to be lacking in some areas. When I went to buy my ticket at the counter, they mentioned the special tickets were sold out,, which was fine with me and they warned me that it would have a 30 minute waiting time to get in the elevator, which I was fine with as well. The wait didn't feel that long but they really do cram you in the two elevators. I was surprised they didn't have more elevators given this is a popular attraction. The wait to get down took almost an hour, which was not fun as I was hungry lol. The food they sold was overpriced upstairs, but not surprising given it's tourist attraction. Upon arriving, there was a lot of X-mas themed decor to take cute pictures with. I went toward the first window pane and was very disappointed by how dirty the glass windows are. They are foggy (not due to condensation) but smudgey, dirty, and oily which was beyond disappointing. All the other windows were the same way. I went upstairs to the 89th floor and read the exhibits on the history of the building and learned about the dampening ball which was very interesting. Then there was outdoor part with a few holes to look through which I enjoyed the most. Too bad this part wasn't 360 so you're only limited to one side of the city for views. The walls were quite high and they only had a platform to stand on in the middle of the area so people who are shorter and kids had trouble seeing out.

Yelp
We visited here during a Christmas event and New Years celebrations. Absolutely amazing!

Yelp
At the Simple Kaffa in Taipei 101, we got the latte (200 NTD), Taiwanese tea infused latte (240 NTD), and smoky southern Taiwan coffee (240 NTD). There is a minimum of 200 NTD purchase per person to go to the 88th floor standing area for the Taipei 101 view! The latte was bitter (we didn't add any sugar, don't know if that is an option). I recommend trying their other drinks. The Taiwanese tea infused latte was so delicious! It tasted so fragrant, with strong notes of jasmine. It was like a fancy milk tea! The smoky southern Taiwan coffee was my favorite! It was so unique, with espresso, Taiwanese jelly, white gourd syrup, and osmanthus. The fusion of all the flavors worked so well! I could identify the white gourd syrup and the jelly was a fun texture to chew. Tea + coffee is a rare combination to find!! The view was beautiful at the standing area. There are also large windows by the hotel elevator that provide an even wider view of the city.

Yelp
Iconic building in Taipei with loads to see, drink, eat and buy! We came here twice during our trip and ate at Din Tai Fung, drank bubble tea at Tao Tao, and had a filling meal in the food court. The price of food is crazy cheap! We got delicious bubble tea for $2. We got a lunch set for $5.50. Even though you are eating in a touristy spot, the price is still good. We also visited some stores in the mall, and they have all the major brands, including luxury brands. The tower is very impressive, and we also went to the top of Elephant Mountain to get a view of the tower and the city. The staff are super friendly. And it is very convenient to commute as it is right next to a MRT station. Definitely a must-see place if you visit Taiwan. Highly recommended!

Yelp
Oh my goodness, such a crazy structure, and so many details into it! Around the backside of this giant monument is a giant, Louis Vuitton advertisement!! I truly wonder how much any of that cost Louis Vuitton but I mean they make billions right?! Inside this business, park are a number of businesses as well as retail stores you can shop at, and all of them have unique items to the Taipei 101 building itself! I really want to get one of the commemorative Starbucks Taipei, 101 cups!! There was also a number of magnets, pens, and other Toschi that somebody could buy! There's also a museum and specialty things within the building itself and we haven't explored everything, but we were going really quickly with the nephews so we'll have to come back!

Yelp
High end shopping, amazing food court and views from the top. Located in Xinyi the 101 was December 31, of 2004. It is shaped like a towering stalk of bamboo, symbolizing learning and growth. And has 8 outward inclining tiers, that look like a stack of ingots or take out boxes. 8 is a lucky number in Taiwanese culture. The 101 is built to withstand major earthquakes. Its main feature is the 660-ton mass damper, a huge steel ball hanging on the 88th to 92nd floors. As part of the observatory tour you can see it from two different floors. It helps to stabilize the building. Besides the observatory tour to the top, which need to be pre-purchased, there's the Taipei 101 Shopping Center. Seven floors of luxury department stores. A substantial sized food court and several high end restaurants on other floors. And for some of us there's a Kavalan tasting bar in the food court. On a hit and sticky afternoon these floors are a great escape from the heat. I also recommend getting your observatory ticket to be on top just before sunset. You can see the city, watch the sunset and see the lights as the night life begins for the evening. It has its own MRT line.

Yelp
Taipei 101 is my favorite when compared to other tall buildings to visit around the world. The attraction provides a bird's eye view of the gorgeous mountain and city views, particularly because most of the buildings are built significantly lower than Taipei 101. There's also a fun mascot named Damper Baby, which is super cute! Inside, there are cafes, a gift shop, and many photo sets decorated to take selfies at. I'd particularly recommend paying the extra baht to go to the 101st floor because there are few people, comfortable chairs to sit in, and light melodic music playing.
google avatar

Aishah P.

Yelp
How can you visit Taiwan without shopping and eating at Taipei 101? It's iconic really. I had so much fun walking around and visiting the tower.
google avatar

Marlon T.

Yelp
It's Taipei 101! You must visit the observation deck, obviously. There's not much to say other than that this building is ultra iconic and you should at least check out the mall it's attached to if you're not the the observation deck type. Then, check out the Raohe Night Market after! "Taipei 101, formerly known as the Taipei World Financial Center, is a skyscraper in Taipei, Taiwan. The building was officially classified as the world's tallest from its opening in 2004 until the 2009 completion of the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, UAE. Upon completion, it became the world's first skyscraper to exceed a height of half a kilometer (about 0.3 miles). Taipei 101 is the tallest building in Taiwan." - Wikipedia
google avatar

Alice C.

Yelp
Highest point in Taiwan, a must visit for the first timer in Taipei. The mall itself is very fancy, with many top end brands for window shopping (or real shopping!). The conservatory is a fun visit in the evenings especially for the night view, the Taipei city scape lit up beneath you. Tickets can be purchased directly when you on the top department store floor. They have 3 kiosks you can buy at to the right of the cashier. You save a ton of time instead of waiting in line with all the tour groups. If you have a Taiwanese ID, you get a nice discount on the tickets too.
google avatar

Jacky C.

Yelp
What was once the world's tallest tower and then Dubai wanted to blow their oil money for that title. Still a pretty cool building to visit, although I would skip on paying for that expensive ticket for the observation deck, unless you really insist on seeing the balancing ball for when earthquakes happen. I would instead go buy a coffee from the Simple Kaffa, where you'll need a ticket from the first floor in order to go up and get essentially the same view for a price of a coffee. It also was interesting to be in an elevator where there's two elevators in each shaft.
google avatar

Krasti Q.

Yelp
Taipei 101 is an absolute must if you're visiting Taiwan. It's such a cool experience to ride on one of the fastest elevators to the top of the building. Once you get up there, you can explore at your leisure. There are many photo opportunities as you walk because the entire floor is well decorated with very cute decor. The views are on another level. You get a 360 view of Taipei in one of the world's tallest buildings. You can't beat that. Well worth the admission ticket! Additionally, you can also check out the damper ball which is used to help stabilize the building during windy and other weather related disaster conditions (I.e., earthquakes).
google avatar

Babette C.

Yelp
Wasn't able to go inside because the tour bus dropped us off and gave us five minutes as he drove around the block. This building is a monster. You hear about buildings that list as the largest buildings in the world, but it's another thing to see one so closeup, and to see how modern and unique it is. I love the metal accents all over the building that have old world style but are carved in a modern way. The building is the same color as an old timey Coke bottle and it helps it to standout from nearby buildings. Lots of photo ops on this corner, including a flower covered carousel.
google avatar

Cathy W.

Yelp
One of the "must do" attractions when you're Taipei - the building itself is mainly just a huge shopping mall, but the observation deck is definitely worth the visit every time! After you pay the admission, you have to line up and wait to take the "fastest in the world" elevator up top. They do take photos with backdrops for you and you can choose to purchase the photos if you'd like. The observation deck is decorated with different themes in various sections. There are lots of shops to check out, and the most popular thing was probably the cotton candy machine - it was my first time seeing one in live action, and it is pretty awesome! The kids (and the adults alike) had a great time here and we definitely are looking forward to our next trip back already!

Yelp
The top sightseeing attraction in Taiwan! It used to be the tallest building in the world. Inside are lots of restaurants and shops. The 5th floor has a rotating display of scenery with many of the world's cities listed on the ground. Go up to the very top to see the view of the city. It's a great thing for tourists to check out. Everything inside is new and really clean. There's a subway stop right here, so easy to get to. Walk outside and you see a bunch of influencers posing with the building in the background. Fun!
google avatar

Thao N.

Yelp
Another tall building. Once you've been up a tall building with a city view, it's pretty much all the same. Something to do to kill time I guess, the 2 crowds that goes here are tourists or those seeking to do luxury shopping. Great place to spot by for a guaranteed public bathroom. Not sure if you can take a photo in front of it and be able to capture the entire building unless you stand many streets away. If you had a choice to check this out or a museum, I'd recommend museum instead for a more unique experience as this will just feel like a commercialize mall. Tell me about your experience if you've been here or is going to after reading this review:)

Annie 2.

Yelp
We bought food here. The sales are super nice and the food tastes great. Will buy again here. Actually, we have been here for several times. Every time we have great experience here. A lot of luxury brand here. A great place for shopping. People here are very nice and kind. 101 is one of the best shopping mall in Taipei. Highly recommended.

Yelp
Taipei 101 what a cool building. it wasn't until my second trip to Taipei that i decided to check out the tower. getting on the elevator is pretty eerie, your ears automatically pop and your heart skips a beat. Needless to say you reach the top pretty quickly! Get ready for some sights of Taipei from the top. Spectacular is one way to put it. It's like when you see the Grand Canyon for the first time and you realize, wow, it's nothing like what you've seen on a postcard or on the television. Luscious greenery and buildings peeking out of the green as if saying "peek a boo" pretty cool. They sell beer, snacks and such once you are on the highest floor, you can hang out and take it all in. Definitely a must see! Don't let the locals stir you away from seeing this classic touristy trap.
google avatar

Yelp
Many food stalls to choose from at the food court. Din Tai fung is also located near the entrance next to the food court. Endless name brand shops on multiple levels.

Yelp
definitely worth the visit and the Taipei 101 on the 88th floor has an amazing coffee shop that view the whole Taiwan for free.

Yelp
I visited Taipei 101 on an excursion with a cruise line. This building is massive and quite beautiful! We could barely see the top due to fog. It was extremely busy because of the New Year celebration coming up so we only visited the dumpling restaurant on the first floor and looked at treats to bring home with us. I wish we had more time here and if I ever visit Taipei again, I will make sure to see more of Teipei 101.
google avatar

Victor C.

Yelp
Modern and chic. If you are tired and need a place to rest as a tourist this is the place for you. Mall with big food court. Commercial offices are here too. I havent been on the top of taipei 101 and wish I could have tried the first time I went. Had din tai fung here And it has better service than the ones in the USA, surprisingly enough. You can't miss it if you are in taipei.

Yelp
At one time, Taipei 101 was the tallest building in the world until 2010 and still holds the record for the largest green building. I made this attraction a must visit - since it was my time visiting Taipei. I was staying at The W hotel which is a short 10 minute walk. I purchased a package which included an e ticket admission and helped avoid the long lines. The weather in November had rain showers so I picked an afternoon that allowed the best possible viewing during my seven day stay. The pagoda shaped building is unique and the main tower floors are segmented to eight floors to signify abundance, prosperity and good fortune. The entire building was built and designed to optimize feng shui. The observation floor located on the 89th floor has incredible views. Towards the center of the 89th was in amazement viewing the damper that reduce the building from swaying during typhoons and earthquakes. The sphere is attached to massive cables and stabilizers at the base. In addition, the observation level includes a mineral museum, restaurants and gift shops. There are two additional upscale restaurants - Taiwanese ShinYeh located on the 85th floor and seafood cuisine on the 86th floor. On the top floor there's a VIP private club that includes politicians, celebrities and by invitation of consumers that spend over one million TWD at the upscale 101 mall. The high end retailers have massive storefronts with oversize heavy tempered glass and each store is unique in design. The high ceilings in the observatory area of the mall is lined with skylights and mind blogging to view in person. The food court was remodeled recently and included a large variety of local vendors. Steps from the food court is the Din Tai Fung restaurant which I enjoyed a late lunch. After an afternoon of shopping, stop in and unwind at Jean Paul - Hevin chocolatier for orange chocolate cake and chocolate infused coffee - a perfect place to people watch! I thoroughly enjoyed spending the day at Taipei 101 and would recommend visiting the architectural wonder.

Yelp
Taipei 101 is a must see for any tourist and an important rendezvous point for locals as well. I admire it but I detest the mannered design. I recognize it is iconic. Forgive my philistine attitude toward the abstracted faux-Asian detailing which makes me wish for a Miesian aesthetic of decorative I-beams. I know many other buildings are reviled when the design is unveiled, and then they grow on critics: the Sydney Opera House abused as looking like turtles mating, the Louvre pyramid (objections to which also were about the race and nationality of the architect), even the Transamerica Pyramid (which has not grown on me any more than Taipei 101). From a distance in the fog, Taipei 101 is I admit, distinctive. I just can't get into those curlicues. (I should disclose I once wrote a college term paper, in the vein of Tom Wolfe, against post-modernism. That probably accounts for it: this is just another example of a trend I lament.) That is all quibbling. You need to go to Taipei 101 to take a look. You should ride up to the observation floor. The dampener is a true engineering marvel worth reading about and photographing -- it likely is the only dampener in the world of which that could be said by someone not a structural engineer. So perhaps I should offset my lack of enthusiasm for the aesthetics with its opposite as to the mechanics. The other note is the building is a landmark, literally. You can orient yourself by looking to it. It is the pride of the city and the island. You would regret it if you were there and failed to approach it. I recommend comparing it from multiple vantage points. I walked from my hotel, a good 45 minutes, and that offered me greater insights. I was more favorably disposed as I saw it through rain and then in the sun.

Yelp
It's going to cost you about USD$20 for you to go up to the observation decks (floors 89 and 91). On the Taiwan National Day weekend, it was packed. We got up to the 5th floor, where tickets are sold and the line to purchase tickets wrapped around almost the the elevators. There were probably more than 100 people waiting in line. I went to the front while my friends waited, just to see how much tickets were. I noticed that there were credit card machines to purchase tickets on the left of the ticket counter. So we ended up skipping the purchasing line and getting tickets through the credit card machine. How strange. We waited about half an hour in line to get into the elevator. From there it was a 30 second ride up to the 89th floor where you can walk around, buy souvenirs and purchase and eat snacks. The views are pretty phenomenal, and you can get even higher views by walking up 2 flights of stairs to the 91st floor. This is a must do if it's your first time to Taipei. I was a little hesitant to go for a second time because the ticket is pricey.

Yelp
Question, guess how many floors is in Taipei 101? You're right! 101 levels! It's the tallest and the most majestic building in Taiwan. The differences in degrees Fahrenheit (Celsius used there) can be up to twenty degrees from the ground floor to its pinnacle. Taipei 101 is huge and so vibrant. It attracts many tourist like myself along with the locals. The building houses the infamous huge Din Tai Fung, many other eateries, along with shopping. You'll find pineapple cakes galore just like all the Taiwanese stores. Taipei 101 also houses a historical museum showcasing artifacts, rare jewels of Taiwan, historical literature, etc. It was so exciting to be there! Overall, one whole day can easily be spent inside the 101. Shopping, eating, museums, the top floor, are all the "must do's" for everybody who visits. You may also relax outside area of the 101 perhaps at the water fountains. Some randomly squirt water if you walk through. I almost got soaked! Haha. There are also more benches, tables around the quad area where people hangout maybe to picnic? Yes, Taiwan is a bit different compared to the US (except Nevada). They are more liberal about outdoors drinking. Hooray! Gunbaeee!! In conclusion, Taipei 101 is an awesome place to go. You can't go wrong visiting the mega structure. I wish I have more pictures of the 101 building. Too bad I lost my old phone. I'll be back!

Yelp
During my 3 nites in Taiwan, our itinerary was determined by my cousin's good buddy who used to live in Taipei. I had some ideas of what I wanted to do. One of them was Taipei 101, you have probably have seen this historical landmark on New Year's Eve - - various international landmarks when they greet the New Year's with a spectacular fireworks show. I found the architecture to be unique. Once upon a time, Taipei 101 was the tallest building in the world when it first opened in 2004 until the Burj Kahlifa in Dubai opened in 2010. With 101 floors, the space is primarily occupied by financial companies and others, including more notable Google Taiwan. The highlight of Taipei 101 is the view from the observatory deck. On the 5th floor you purchase your ticket. For about US $20 you speed up to the 89th floor in a quick 37 seconds. For one's safety, there is a comprehensive screening process, which includes x-rays, that you go through that snakes around the elevator. During the screening process, you also take a commemorative photo that is available for purchase, if you wish. They have many high end stores in the lower levels of Taipei 101 where you shop at, but for us it was just window shopping. In the basement to our delight was a massive food court with the ever so famous Din Tai Fung. But sadly the famous XLB restaurant was packed to its gills when we first arrived. We decided to walk around the shops and then check out the elaborate food court in the basement. After an hour we headed back to Din Tai Fung only to see a larger crowd waiting for tables so we scrapped the idea and ate at the food court. In the basement there are many, many establishments that is ideal for foodies. Food options are primarily Asian food with desserts also available. Outside of Taipei 101, I accidentally bumped into Robert Indiana's famous LOVE sculpture. Despite it being dark at night with minimal lighting, I was still able to take that commemorative photo. Overall, Taipei 101 should be on yout list of places to visit while in Taipei. It was spacious, clean and tourist friendly. NOTE: As of April 2019, Taipei 101 has been bumped down to the 10th tallest building in the world. 2019 #15

Yelp
What a landmark. It's simple, clean and elegant. It's a towering building and easy to spot in the city. It boasts 89 floors of views of the city. It's no longer the tallest building in the city, but still impressive. Worth a visit to check out the inside and see the city from the top, weather permitting and of course to take some pics from outside too. Great branding to name the building after its city too, why ever not. It's a mall for high end brands.

Yelp
Ahhh the iconic Taipei 101, an architectural and engineering masterpiece, as I've watched a couple of videos about how it was designed and made to be so tall in a very earthquake prone part of the world. It is truly an incredible building, but I wasn't particularly impressed. It has great and pricey shops on several floors, and the observatory on the top. It is beautiful and breathtaking inside and out, but there's not much more to it than that for the average person isn't going to really buy super high end items here and there dining options are awesome I'm sure, but also out of reach for most people. It is a statement of Taiwan's immensely successful development over the last several decades and is definitely worth a visit, but probably just once is enough and return visits will likely be to bring friends visiting in the city to see the 101.

Yelp
Taipei 101 is certainly interesting as a historical building to drop by and visit, as everywhere they always have the big fireworks show here, with mounds of people flooding their way to the surrounding areas to take in the sights. Now, this would definitely be a place you would come to, and take in the architecture, and marvel at the way it was designed, constructed, and stands now. The building itself have been getting more and more mainstays brands and restaurants as a part of Taipei 101. One mainstay that can be found here is Ding Tai Fung, which is just downstairs from the front entrance to the building. So if you plan to visit 101, you may also want to fit in a meal here too before you start exploring. Of course, the building have a variety of other eateries, food courts, and many other food options. And there is an abundance of shopping available as one would expect. Lots of brand names, lots of things to browse and peruse. Think of a regular department store in Taiwan, but they're just stacked on top of each other. For those who want to catch the view from the top of 101, you will have a chance to do so, but just keep in mind it's a well known tourist spot, so there may be a line to even go up there. I mean, all in all, it's a fun place to be. Lots of things to do, things to see from a architectural perspective, or design point of view, but it is also really just a very, very big department store. From that aspect, it may or may not be what you were hoping for in a visit.

Yelp
Interesting experience. They have two types of tickets. Regular one that requires you to stand in line for a long time and express one that you can go up and down when you want it. Since my time was limited, I paid extra to purchase this express ticket. I am so glad I did. Elevator is very fast. They speak in Chinese, English and Japanese. Once up there, 360 degrees views of Taipei. Upon return, you get to go through bunch of merchants selling rocks and something. They have so much of them, i felt like I was stuck at IKEA maze... Besides the viewing floor, they have so many shops including high end brands available. Lots of restaurants including the famous Din Tai Fung. Their Xiaolongbao is the must try in Taipei. Once outside, look for the LOVE sign. The same one I saw in New York and Tokyo.

Yelp
It was the tallest tower in the world until Dubai took over that title. I like the wonderful blue shades and the design of the exterior to this fine tower. It reminds me of ocean blue waves and a timekeeper with the metal decor as a way of turning time - kind of symbolic for me and a self-interpretation in my part. Now, it is a working office building, but it's noticeable in all angles of the city. One can see it towering over when looking up and around!

Yelp
When in Taipei, you should go to see Taipei 101. Taipei 101 is one of the tallest buildings in Taipei. It offers a spectacular 360 view of Taipei. Until recently, they only offered admission to the observation deck. There is nothing wrong with going to the observation deck, but now you can go to the top (or near the top) of Taipei 101 which was previously only available to dignitaries and VIPs. The cost to go there is more than regular admission. Unfortunately, I was unable to do this due to timing. However, I intend to do this on my next visit to Taipei. I was short on time and days when I visited Taipei 101, so I paid for the Fast Track ticket. I highly encourage you to do this. Paying for the Fast Track ticket allows you to by pass the line to go up and down to the observation deck and back. You have your own designated line which when I visited only consisted of me. You are paying for the convenience. After, you can go shopping or get some food to fill that hunger.
