"This tried-and-true American Chinese restaurant in the heart of South Charlotte’s Quail Hollow neighborhood has been a local favorite since 1996. Friendly management and efficient dine-in service with incredible prices offer the most flavorful bang for your buck. The favorites are here (including a solid hot and sour soup, beef with crispy string beans, lo mein, and fried rice) as well as easy mix-and-match menu options: Pick a protein (like shrimp, chicken, beef, or scallops) and a sauce like sa cha or garlic, and you’ll receive a platter that includes white or brown rice, and an egg or spring roll for around $12 to $14 each. Comfortable booths and a large dining area are great for families, casual date nights, work lunches, or group dinners." - Shindy Chen

Reviews were great so we tried this restaurant. Best Chinese restaurant we’ve been to in Charlotte. Service was quick. Food came out quick and right out of the wok! Hot! Shrimp fried rice was loaded with shrimp. Broth on broccoli and chicken was perfect. Meals include an egg roll or spring roll! And they brought a carafe of soda with my drink so if I ran out I could replenish without waiting for waiter! Probably the first time I’ve seen that in any restaurant.

Google
Great experience, they are located in small mall with plenty of parking. Their service is exceptional, once I walked in they acknowledged me and found a table for us. The food was plenty, delicious and at a very good price, our server was a very nice lady which was always accessible and very fast. Will definitely visit again.

Unfortunately, our experience wasn’t what we expected. While the food was fine, the service left a lot to be desired. We noticed that other tables around us received much more attentive and friendly treatment, while we felt ignored and at times even treated rudely. We understand everyone can have off days, but consistency and respect in service matter. We hope this was just a one-time situation, but it definitely affected our overall impression.

This is our go-to for takeout - great service - food is usually ready just as I get there; it's still hot when I get home with it. They give you ample portions - great value for the money. The only down side is they have recently changed egg rolls and the new ones are half the size of the ones they used to serve. I'd happily pay another $0.50 - $1 for them to go back to the ones they used to have. But great quality ingredients; the restaurant is spotless and the folks at the counter are amazing. Oh - and be warned - their house-made hot mustard is thermonuclear good.

Google
Taipei South is a very good local Chinese Restaurant! Service was very quick and efficient. Food also was very good. Nice variety of lunch menu items and the prices were quite reasonable. The interior is quite dated, but I’m sure that helps keep the prices down and the quality high. Only complaint was the Eggroll which was very overcooked on one side and soggy. The orange chicken was very good. Soup good too!

Been coming here for over 15 years and the food, service, and quality has always been top notch 👌🏼

Google
Love going there for the food but there is one server that’s always in a rush not taking orders correctly bc she’s just on the move and when needed for her service or to change something we didn’t ask for she comes with a bigger attitude. Yes her rushing around she already has an attitude. If you give her an attitude back be careful and check your receipt before giving a tip. I was already charged a $15 tip for her bad service on top of the tip I had wrote on the receipt. My fault I know just warning people.

Stephanie Inch

Google
A little slow getting seated as well as waiting for the check even though it wasn’t busy. Staff was very friendly.

Yelp
This place is tucked away, but it may be one of the best Chinese restaurants around. The food is always served fast and it doesn't taste "fast." The prices are amazing and the service is phenomenal. Check it out!

Kate M.

Yelp
So disappointed - I haven't been here in a while, but I used to come for lunch all the time. Quality has definitely gone down. The egg rolls were so mushy, chicken broccoli diced up really tiny instead of strips and the dumplings were more like flat gyoza. And broccoli in lo mein was so hard - almost still raw.

Lindsay B.

Yelp
Taipei is a solid little place for Chinese takeout! We ordered takeout during the hurricane last week and it hit the spot. The General Tso's chicken was tasty with big chunks of fried chicken and extra sauce leftover to put over the rice. The fried rice dish was dry and lack luster in my opinion but I never order just fried rice. The egg rolls were really good. The veggie lo mein lacked a bit in flavor for me. We also tried the crab rangoons which were alright. Overall, we had a good experience but it's not the best Chinese food I've ever had or anything.

Adria C.

Yelp
Stumbled across this restaurant after getting my nails done. Ordered general chicken. Restaurant was full of customers - seems to be a popular place. The entree didn't taste fresh to me. They gave a heaping portion of white rice and the pieces of chicken were pretty big. Overall I wasn't satisfied. I'd give this restaurant another chance - may dining inside will be better.

Yelp
I've had lunch here a few times in the distant past...and I recall thinking the foods were good, but didn't like the vibe for some reason. Since then, I almost forgot about this place (for more than a decade...Ouch?)! Fast forward to the present...and a friend raved about the foods here, so I decided to give it another shot. I arrived for a late lunch (almost 2 pm?)...and surprisingly, there were still a good amount of people, which is a good sign. Even more than a decade later, the place still looked about the same. In some ways, better than how I remembered it? I'm usually not a fan of Chinese lunch specials...but I loved how their lunch menu is so customized, with lots of choices (type of meats, type of sauces, etc.etc.)! I ordered from the Lunch Special - Crispy Fried Chicken w/ General Sauce, with Fried Rice and Egg Roll. I also ordered Hot 'n Sour Soup. BTW, I couldn't believe how cheap things were...possibly the cheapest menu I've seen in a LONG time! It's basically as cheap as, if not cheaper than a take-out place. This place isn't a posh restaurant, but not a basic take-out joint either. Despite its take-out pricing, the foods were NOT Take-Out quality. In fact, I was near shocked at the quality of this 10-99 Lunch Special! The General Sauce was DEE-Lish...and I loved how their "Crispy Fried" is just lightly battered...not super-thick. I loved the mushrooms and water chestnuts in the dish too...plenty of mushroom, but there was only 1 piece of water chestnut! Maybe I arrived too late, and the ingredient ran out?? Also, I thought the Hot 'n Sour Soup was very well made, with good mix of ingredients, but they were a bit bland...so much so that I had to add salt and pepper. Still, I liked the generous amount of bamboo shoots and tofu in the soup. Overall, the foods were really good! As expected from a Chinese restaurant, service was fast and attentive. Although I was a tad disappointed with the soup, and the lack of water chestnuts in my dish, I did love the flavor of the Crispy Fried Chicken (General Sauce). Surprisingly delicious...in the most authentic way. Although not altogether a perfect dining experience, I thought they deserved 5 stars in terms of overall value. I mean...seriously, 10-99 for a full quality dish, including Fried Rice and Egg Roll?!? I've paid more at McDonalds!!! So glad I returned to this place. Think I'll be returning soon!

Yelp
"This is one review I hate to write, but I feel it's necessary. I visited and asked for Seafood Delight Fried Rice, only to later learn it's actually called House Fried Rice. The staff should have clarified this from the start. When I realized the mix-up and asked to exchange it, I was told no because the purchase was already made. I've spent money with this establishment in the past, but after this experience, I won't be returning. Disappointed and let down by the lack of understanding and customer care."

Yelp
Make sure you have cash if you aren't going to spend at least $5. I only wanted soup and rice and didn't have cash so I had to order more food. They didn't say why and I didn't see a sign on the policy. I would have paid the card processing fee. I go there quite frequently, great staff and great food.

Yelp
This was my cheat day and we seem to be on an Asian kick lately. Been wanting to try this one for a while and it was a great experience. Staff was super friendly and seated us right away and even helped with the high chair for our daughter. It's a decent size dining area and looks like people have been coming here for years. Could use some updating, but was clean. I mainly came here to try the dumplings and saw their meals were still reasonably priced. The menu has a variety of meal options with picking the protein and a sauce and some lo mein and appetizer options. Most meals come with white or fried rice and egg roll or spring roll. We ordered steamed dumplings, ginger chicken, black pepper chicken and plain lo mein noodles for the kiddo. Dumplings were the thicker kind with a mild flavor. The sauce was more savory with a soy spicy taste. My black pepper chicken was good. Sauce was just spicy enough and did have a black pepper flavor. Veggies and chicken were cooked just right. I loved their fried rice. It had a nice flavor and I could see pieces of egg throughout, how my family makes it. The egg roll had a good crunch and seasoned veggies inside. My husband ate all his meal. And my daughter who is picky and doesn't always eat, ate almost all her noodles. Service was quick and several staff interacted with our daughter which she enjoyed. They even brought out her noodles as soon as they were ready. We enjoyed it a lot and will be back.

Denika J.

Yelp
Terrible. The menu has changed. All of the proteins are pre- cooked. Basically you order your protein and you select a sauce to top on it. The beef for the beef and broccoli color was a greyish brown. The food is definitely not cooked to order. The last time I came three years ago the food was ok. As of yesterday we decided we will NEVER eat here again.,,

Samantha L.

Yelp
I came in here with my brother and his wife when they were in town. We came on a Saturday night and the place was pretty busy, but we were able to get a table right away. The service was good, but the food was pretty bland. The best part was the pan fried pork dumplings.

BW E.

Yelp
I have been a patron at Tai Pai south for over 15 years. The food is dependable, a good value and great takeout. It is a great alternative to fast food. If you are looking for five star cuisine, this is not it, but the staff is quick and polite and the food is good. The restaurant is always busy.

Nicholas S.

Yelp
Taipei South is a a fan favorite in my household. We have been coming here for years now and will keep coming. The food is always consistent and tastes very good. I always either get the Kon Bo sauce with beef or the Sesame Chicken. They always are pleasant to have with the hot tea. The service is very quick and efficient, they are always friendly here. I can come here everyday and really enjoy myself. Love this place to bits!

Myiah H.

Yelp
From the moment we walked in, we hoped that it was going to be good because the restaurant smelled so flavorful. It was about 7:30pm or 8pm on a Saturday and overall the dining room was not busy, but as we ate our dinner, we noticed that the to go orders and telephone lines for placing orders was BOOMING! We were in the mood for lo mein so we found what we wanted pretty quickly, ordered the crab Rangoons as appetizers and added cokes for drinks. The cokes came out with good carbonation, and with a refill carafe. Even though we had the carafe the waitress still came by and refilled our drinks on the table. Nice touch for customer service!! The crab rangoons were tasty especially with whatever the orange sauce is on the table. Good ratio of crab meat and cream cheese and wontons are fried crispy! Now the entrees... not only are they delicious but these portions are huge!!! Def enough for two people to split or one person to have another entire meal. And our plates were approximately $11 dollars each. My lo mein was the house version which included chicken, beef and shrimp, and my partner ordered chicken and shrimp lo mein with a spring egg roll. My egg roll was traditional and contained pork, which was ok with me. The waitress also confirmed that with me before placing the order. Sorry that I do not have a pic of the "orange sauce on the table" but it initially appeared to be a duck sauce, but once I tasted it, it's more like a sweet and sour sauce of some sort. It was sweet and tangy and paired well with my egg roll, the lo mein and it's veggies. Try it out when you come! Service was inviting, and welcoming, and satisfied the lo mein craving we had. This was a great experience and a nice restaurant to stop by while passing by & headed back to the triad.

Yelp
Absolute favorite Chinese restaurant in town! Crispy scallion beef turns any day into a great day!

Nhi V.

Yelp
Yummy comfort food at a great price! A friend and I were visiting her favorite restaurant growing up. The staff was attentive, the food came out quickly, and it was all delicious. Probably more of a 3-4 serving, but it was worth it. I had the stop myself from eating it all in one sitting. Definitely a nice and quiet spot that is family friendly.

Austen L.

Yelp
My wife and I ordered take out, generous portions and outstanding flavor. Sesame beef was exquisite, and the egg drop soup was loaded with egg and super filling! My wife loved her food as well and the price was amazing, a true value and in today's world that is hard to find when eating out! We will back, best Chinese spot in Pineville.

Madison E.

Yelp
We found a LONG hair in our fried rice. This was a pickup order and they told us they would "give us credit" if we brought the food back. We order from there often and now have to DRIVE BACK because they are not practicing general hygiene by using hairnets when cooking. We thought we found our Chinese pickup place, but now we will not order from there again.

Maria T.

Yelp
I bought food today and the house special fried rice, it was tasteless....I always buy food and today it was bad the rice had white rice balls, it was bad I had to cook

Kat L.

Yelp
The food is very close to authentic Taiwanese food and the service is immaculate. The ambiance of the restaurant is very home like with the great attitude of the servers. Would highly recommend!

Jamila M.

Yelp
I've tried this place a few times but it hasn't gotten better. My husband and I called in a pick up order around 2:30pm. They close for lunch at 3pm. I was craving Chinese and I ordered the sesame chicken, general Tso and crab ragoons. They changed the recipe for the ragoons so I was very excited for them to taste better. The appearance was beautiful but they lacked flavor and did not taste good at all. The sesame chicken was great but the fried rice tasted burnt like it was from the bottom of the pot. I don't recommend this restaurant and will not be returning.

Roxanne D.

Yelp
Wow this visit was ridiculous I arrived to eat some lunch at 2:26 pm they said we close at 3 o'clock so no dinning in but you can do take out . There were at least 2 other tables I saw with customers eating one that literally got his food as I was waiting for a hostess yet they refused to seat me . It's already sad enough that they close at 3 o'clock but not to accommodate someone arriving 34 minutes before you close is absolutely ridiculous!

Caroline Z.

Yelp
Wonderful customer service. I did a take out order and they forgot an item. I went back to get it and the manager gave me the missing item and then some! So nice of them. Food definitely hit the spot, too!

Ahmed I.

Yelp
I have been coming to this restaurant for over 20 years. I brought my family in for dinner today April 22. We ordered 5 different dinner plates. I ordered the hunan chicken. When I took a bite of my hunan chicken I noticed the corn in this meal was very hard and not the same as I usually order it. So I told the waitress and she said I had to talk to the manager. So we waited for at least 10 minutes until she stopped walking around the empty restaurant and she finally comes over to talk to me. I told her the corn was not good and I was unsatisfied. She tells me she has a different distributor and keeps trying to explain to me that nothing is wrong with the corn. She keeps going on and on with some none sense just because she doesn't want to make her customer happy and make me another plate. Unfortunately this will be our last time supporting this business. We were just a party of 5 and they hit us with a mandatory 20% tip!!! Wow Highly recommend not to go here!!

Jonathan B.

Yelp
So I'm not fully sold on the place just yet. Both the food and the service are a mixed bag in my opinion. I stopped in for the first time after a work out right next door at CKO. Nothing better than a hefty pile of Chinese food (or in this case Taiwanese) to fill your belly after a hardcore workout. The first visit I ordered the Four Happiness and the second visit I ordered the Chicken with Mixed Veggies. I was not impressed with the egg rolls and found them chewy. The spring rolls are better with that perfect crunch. May have been an issue of freshness. Both dishes had a serious amount of meat, which is also great after a good workout. The fried rice did indeed leave something to be desired. I didn't find it unpalatable but it was nothing special. It's a good thing for extra sauce in the meat and veggies to help flavor-up the rice a bit. Prices aren't bad at all, even for dinner. They're just what you expect for typical Americanized Chinese/Taiwanese food. You can get out with a belly full of dinner for $10 after tip. Service was always fast but they get a bit pushy and both times I had my bill brought to me while I was still halfway into my meal. It felt like I was being asked to speed it up, even though there were other tables always available. I will definitely come back but may try some other places in the area after my next workout.

Charmaine K.

Yelp
Nice little Chinese spot. The restaurant was full, only had two available tables (which is a great sign). Food came out quickly and it was so hot. Tea was good, just the right amount of sugar. Service was great, very friendly staff.

Fernanda S.

Yelp
Great all around. The servers are kind and vigilant to make sure you have all you need. And they are SO fast with everything. Everything I have tried is great. I highly recommend the steamed dumplings and shrimp mixed vegetables. So. Good. These dumplings might be some of the best I've tried. I've also had the chicken broccoli, beef with broccoli, crispy scallion chicken, and chicken lo mean. All are super good too but the shrimp is my new favorite. The prices are not bad at all. There is plenty of parking. There are no complaints I've never had a bad experience here and just overall they are great and my go to Chinese spot.

Don S.

Yelp
We have been frequenting Taipei South for 20 years. The food is good and a great value. The service is efficient. Whether you get takeout or dine-in, it's a good meal.

Teacher C.

Yelp
We went on Christmas Eve the place was full their waiting time was 20 min their food was good I definitely will be back!

Dallas N.

Yelp
SO good and cannot beat the value. I get the sesame chicken or scallion chicken depending on how I'm feeling, hubby gets the orange chicken. Super fresh and super fast service each time.

Erin L.

Yelp
Impressive! We ordered takeout over the phone. It was ready in 15-minutes as promised and the order was completely accurate. We ordered the crab Rangoon, spring rolls, egg rolls, vegetable lo mein and orange chicken. The crab Rangoon had large pieces of crab and was delicious. The spring and egg rolls were large and the ingredients were high quality. The lo mein was delicious without being overly greasy which I've found at other Chinese restaurants. The orange chicken was large pieces of white meat chicken without any thick fried coating. Will be back! No complaints.

Jeremy H.

Yelp
The food was so good and it was super cheap as well, and the old grandmas are absolutely amazing and fun, I will stop by every time I come thru... Seriously don't skip on this place when your in town!!!!

Tonya A.

Yelp
Very nice restaurant. A limited menu that lets the diner customize dishes more than most restaurants. Had tasty Ginger Chicken and Four Happiness. May have been a lunch menu. Would visit again when in Charlotte.

Alicia S.

Yelp
I didn't like the crab Rangoon. It wasn't as warm as I needed it to be. I got the feeling that it was made earlier and just reheated. The filling was minimal and the sauce didn't help. The orange chicken was ok. Way too much sauce for me and huge chicken chunks that didn't suite the ease of having a quick lunch well (had to cut up). The fried rice was just the same as anywhere else.

Tasha W.

Yelp
Lazy Lazy Vegetable fried rice...Tastes like frozen rice out of a bag... Egg roll, old and twice fried.

J B.

Yelp
Great food, have been back several times all in one week. Plenty of space and very quick service, sometimes to a fault.

Kate T.

Yelp
After hearing great things about Taipei South, I was so excited to be in the area recently. If you've seen my other Asian/Chinese reviews, I base places a lot on the Wonton Soup...so, with that said I of course had to start with Soup. The broth was great, served with two very large wontons and scallions. Very good. And, I love they serve their soup with crispy chips... As for my entree I unfortunately cannot remember the name of the dish, but it was Shrimp, Chicken, Pork and Beef with Mixed Vegetables in a brown sauce. Huge portions and the dish was great, the veggies were all cooked to perfection and the meats were all great. The meal comes with a Spring Roll or Egg Roll and my waitress recommended the Spring Roll, perfect choice. Overall, Taipei is a great spot when your craving Chinese with great service and prices!

Osby W.

Yelp
When I'm in the mood for Asian dining, this is my go to spot! The cuisine is consistently spot on and the customer service is always excellent!!

Warren M.

Yelp
My friends and I used to come here regularly when we lived nearby. My wife and I were in the area, so we decided to stop by. It's good to know that they still serve outstanding food.

Theresa S.

Yelp
The best in Charlotte!!! Fast friendly service. Delicious generous portions! We have been regular customers for over 20 years and never disappointed!

Luisa R.

Yelp
Very good Chinese food! At one time or another, I've probably tried everything on the menu. My favorite is their Sesame Chicken that comes with fried rice and an egg roll for $7.50. This is a Family friendly environment and not anything fancy. Meal prices run from $6-8.50ish. Food comes out hot, just like you order it and good size portions. A downfall to this restaurant is that the wait staff is on a mission to get your drink and food order in as soon as possible and very much in a hurry to rush you out of the door as soon as your food arrives at your table! 9 out of 10 times, I call ahead and I order my food to go. I feel it's the best way to go - my order is usually ready in 10-15 minutes, even when they are busy! Never had an issue there. If you're craving Chinese food, give 'em a try!

Max T.

Yelp
Ordered general chicken lunch as well as scallion shrimp and beef and bell pepper chicken wings and crab regoons. 48.56 for lunch ? How the fuck does that add up these mother added bullshit pricing and the food sucked that's why I didn't tip a dime. The food was refried like below health score regulations . I've eaten here in the past and it was great now they have management upfront taking payments . Still have no idea what the fuck I payed for as they refused to give me an itemized bill should have left should call my card company and refuse payment but I won't . Much better food I. Area don't waste your money all this for lunch ...

Christina G.

Yelp
This place is fantastic for Chinese takeout! The interior set up is great and reminds me of authentic Chinese restaurants back home in California. They have all the American Chinese classics and at great prices. I had shrimp with mixed vegetables (broccoli, carrots, baby corn, mushroom, water chestnuts). for $7.50. All dishes come with fried rice or white rice and chicken wings or egg roll. The rice was flavorful, and I had a very generous amount of it. I was also given plenty of plump, juicy shrimp, which made me very happy. The vegetables and sauce were great. In fact, I loved everything about my meal, except the egg roll, which tasted too soggy and the stuffing had an odd taste. I definitely recommend this place if you are craving Chinese takeout!

Allison W.

Yelp
Good and fast . Have never eaten there alsways order takeout, but I love it ! Order us always right

Jane H.

Yelp
I've been coming to this place literally since I was in high school. Fast and casual Chinese food. Same staff, same consistent food and prices. I rotate between about 4 dishes and this time I opted for the crispy scallion shrimp. It's fried shrimp with a savory slight spicy brown sauce. So tasty! You literally cannot beat it. Pop in if you're in the Pineville area.

Dave F.

Yelp
Exactly what you want in a local go-to/take-out Chinese restaurant and sets the bar when comparing others in the south CLT area....very friendly staff, standard Chinese menu with all the classics, huge portions with fresh ingredients and a ton of value in their pricing compared to what you get.

Morgan K.

Yelp
Amazing. Best Chinese around. Everything is so good. Love the crispy scallion chicken. The remodeled dining room is very nice, the takeout business is excellent. Just a great place

Carlos S.

Yelp
Great option for take out. Enjoyed the food and variety to choose from. It was a little different than your typical take out spot but in a good way!

Yheng D.

Yelp
Love the place clean and nice ambiance. The food was good and big serving plate for one person which is good and I like it. The price is reasonable and money worth it. Friendly stuff with the smile on their face. Fast serving. I would probably go back again for the second time around and recommended for friends to visit. Good meal and love it.

Colby L.

Yelp
Best Chinese with best prices in pineville! Highly recommend the spring rolls and crab Rangoons.
