Chicken with curry rice was warm and deliciously filling. Curry was thinner than I ideally prefer & not as much curry compared to other ingredients? But it was still good and I would get it again. $23 each (with 20% tip, $17 menu price) They also have a lot of drinks but are one of those pub-like bars that are trying on the food. (thumbs up to that). There was also throw-up right at the front door...

Friendly service. Food is standard bar food with some Asian options. I think the fry on the food was good. The rooms are clean. The beer and house sake is reasonably priced. They have a sake menu of bottles with their notes which is helpful. Good selection of karaoke songs. Had some friends hoping for E40 and Mac Dre.

We came in during April and had an early dinner, but the service was still quick and the staff was very nice and welcoming. We got the chicken karage and chicken katsu curry and enjoyed both a lot. Our server (Makaio? sorry I've since forgotten!) was also super great and even gave us some complimentary dole whip. Would definitely recommend!

Daughter wanted karaoke and Katsu curry for her birthday. There was no hesitation on where we were going to go. Before going check the menu, know that this is not a regular/typical Japanese restaurant where you get the usual tempura, sushi, teriyaki, sukiyaki, etc that you can get at any number of average neighborhood places anywhere around CA. This is well prepared and presented Japanese/Hawaiian comfort food, the kind you might eat in Hawai'i. No Hawaiian food yet like lau lau, stew, braised short rib etc but one can hope. 'Local boy' owner serves the type of Japanese based local style food you'd expect to find in HI. Also unlike typical Japanese restaurants, TaishoSF has a great selection of Sake, from the affordable house sake, to more high end stuff that anyone will know from the first sip how much better it is than the run of the mill stuff, my personal favorite so far is "the one with 72 clocks". They also have other tropical style drinks and even Dole whip which you don't get at a standard Japanese restaurant. The food is also very reasonably priced which was a mandate by the owner in keeping with the 'local' style. Another unwavering standard is the focus on food quality. Whether a place sells expensive food or modest homey food, making sure the diner receives a well prepared meal should be EVERY restaurant's prime directive, and TaishoSF delivered that on every dish we ordered. We ordered 15 dinners, many appetizers, and Dole whip. Every dish was consistent and delicious. Had at least 5 orders of Gyoza but couldn't get a photo, they swarmed them as soon as they arrived! The wings were very good and the sauces were good. The Kalua pork quesadilla is excellent, they have a secret sauce that adds a different flavor, been eating Mexican food for many years, even worked at a taqueria, this has a good twist. Katsu curry and curry Loco Moco are hearty meals but if you don't like curry (like my other daughter) you can just get chicken Katsu plain. The karaoke system has so many choices and genres, you'll likely find your favorite song. Didn't find any Samoan songs while casually perusing (one of our party is Samoan) but maybe they have something, can't say for sure 😃. You can get use of a Karaoke room with a minimum purchase, check the website for details. We had a great time and will be back for more!

It's definitely become my go-to spot for memorable events in San Francisco!

FINALLY! That is my one-word summary coming across TaishoSF. Was there Friday night, and couldn't wait to write this review. - Service: 10/10 The highlight of this review. Everyone there was exceptionally professional, nice, and most importantly went above and beyond to provide a fun, first time experience. It is hard to find a good place that doesn't feel "establishment", but everyone here gave the perfect small-business/local energy that SF lost many years ago and are easy to talk to and sociable. You come here, you feel like a regular, not just another customer. Very rare to find spots like this in SF. - Karaoke 9/10 Hands down best spot for Karaoke in SF. We have been struggling to find spots with updated catalogs and a wide selection. Catalog has more than the basics and karaoke software is premium. Microphone was clear, speaker system was great, rooms were well designed and clean. Found all the songs I wanted to sing, so was not disappointed. Finally! - Food 8/10 Listen, set your expectations and know this isn't a place for gourmet, high-end dining. The food was tasty, but yes it is on the heavier side and you'll probably have a better "foodie" experience going to a dedicated restaurant. But for what it is: It is tasty, presentable, very well seasoned, and had no regrets with our orders. - Drinks 8/10 Only Sake and Beer. Margarita machine is supposed to come soon, can't wait! Selection of beer and sake is wide. House Sake was surprisingly good. - Pricing 8/10 Pricing was fair. Didn't feel anything was excessive and for the experience as a whole I felt I got more than my moneys worth. Everything was transparent and upfront (though I wish their receipts were itemized by default). Absolutely worth to try once if you're looking for karaoke. Better than options around Japantown and Mason St. a thousand times over. I'll be back!

We recently came here for dinner and was seated right away. We ordered the house sake, salad, curry, and burrito. The food was decent and reasonably priced, especially for San Francisco . The decor is cute, modern asian decor and apparently this place is also a karaoke bar! The salad was refreshing but a bit bland. The burrito had nice, tender meat, though the rice was a little wet, indicating it was freshly cooked. The curry was good and solid. The food came out quickly, and the service was friendly. Overall, the food was a little hit or miss but I would come back to try again since they had a nice vibe and good service. I enjoyed watching people sing karaoke.

I was initially drawn to this place by its flashy lights and loud, fun music but I quickly realized that this place is an after hours/ bar-food place at best. If you're looking for a great culinary experience, maybe look elsewhere but this place serves a purpose for those late nights after one too many and you need some food in your stomach to soak up the excess booze. I appreciated the overall vibes of the place and the staff were very nice and welcoming.

Such a cute spot! I had a concert at the Regency Ballroom and was looking for a place to eat. Stumbled upon this place and saw that they had happy hour (which I'm a sucker for...) Happy hour is from 5 - 7pm Tuesday - Thursday and Sunday. They have bar seating and some tables. There was a big screen TV right as you walk in (I was later told that they do open mic at 8pm on Thursday - not sure about the other days). Their happy hours offer a wide variety of food they offer but in small portions and karaoke rooms are significantly cheaper during this time as well. The staff was really accommodating and made sure to do a last call before happy hour ended. We got a pitcher of beer and some happy hour food which was no more than $6! Such a great deal and highly recommend coming to check this place out especially if you like to karaoke. We left feeling so full and happy. Kalua Pork Nacho - 8/10, the pork was so good. Most of the toppings were on the top so once you got closer to the bottom, it was just chips. Katsu Curry 8/10, I think this is well worth for the happy hour price. Katsu was crisp but didn't feel like there was much meat to it. Taisho Fries 8/10, it was a bit spicy but I like the toppings on this, since it was fries, I think the sauce dripped down to the lower levels of it which made almost all fries have some sort of seasoning. Jenny's Oxtail Porridge - 7/10, personally I'm not a big fan of oxtail but my girlfriend liked it. Excited to come back again soon to try more things on the menu.

We were looking for some fresh eats on Tuesday after an awesome Warriors game! Taisho was where we ended up..We were greeted by friendly people, sat at a nice clean table..The atmosphere was relaxed and friendly and the smells were wafting through the place..Wonderful aroma..We had some Tempura veggies to share, I had the teriyaki chicken and rice, really good. My guy had a the Katsu Curry dish, he loved it.. We also shared some coleslaw..Everything was so good..We were offered some Dole Whip, but sadly it was all out..Next time..I'd definitely come back..Thanks for being open..Great place, excellent service.

My new obsession. Some friends and I stumbled across this place while looking for any restaurants open past 11pm on a Thursday. We were immediately greeted by karaoke singers and decided to join in on the fun! Super easy to join via QR code and queue a song. Open and free to all customers! Food was all so yummy and servers were super sweet! Will definitely be coming back for some more karaoke fun!

In a city where happy hour is increasingly expensive, Taisho offers an affordable happy hour with a good variety of food options! My friend and I went on a Tuesday evening and there were a few other groups but it didn't fill up, so it was nice to still be able to hold a conversation without shouting. We ordered the Taisho fries, kalua pork nachos, and katsu curry, along with a pint of Sapporo each. I do wish there were more drink options on the HH menu, but the food options made up for it. We were shocked that even the entrees only cost $6 at most, and the portions were decent too. While the food wasn't anything outstanding, it was definitely solid and I'm glad nothing was too salty (especially the fries and nachos). There was a good amount of pork in the nachos too, and for my fellow cilantro haters, take comfort in knowing the pico de gallo didn't have any - phew! I do wish the katsu curry had a bit more curry though, as the ratio to meat seemed a bit off, but I enjoyed how crispy the katsu was. Taisho fries were solid too, though it's hard to go wrong with potato! Our server checked on us pretty regularly, though honestly it would've been fine if she left us alone a tad more LOL introvert problems. The one thing was that the tables were super sticky - not sure if just ours or if they're all like that. Overall, this is a great affordable happy hour spot and I would def come back!

Had a great evening here with a bunch of friends. Very casual spot offering Hawaiian and Japanese Foods. Extremely nice that we went during happy hour. Prices could not be beat for the generous portions of food that we ate. Owner and staff were very welcoming and accommodating to all our needs. The food was so ono delicious! We forgot to Even look at the regular menu since we were stuffed with the happy hour foods. Loved the spam fries and special dip. Very crunchy and not salty at all. The katsu curry is always my favorite. The curry flavor and texture is always on point. The Taisho fries remained crispy throughout the evening. Jenny's oxtail porridge was just the right consistency for jook with shreds of oxtail. Such a nice comfort Food on a cold evening. The Mac salad tasted homemade and the chicken wings were meaty and succulent with the two dipping sauces. All in all, it was a wonderful evening spent with good friends and food. My wife heard about the happy hour and karaoke and those were wonderful reasons to try Taisho. We anticipated a challenge with parking and took a Waymo to get there. We got the fries, edamame dip with chips, kalua pork burrito and sake from the Happy Hour menu. All were good but the dip wasn't flavorful. From the regular menu, my wife enjoyed the the vegetable tempura. I had the spam musabi which was a nice deal at $5. We had the sake hot and the bottle was piping hot so please be careful. We checked out the songs on karaoke and there were a lot of pop tunes to choose from. Looking forward to checking out more fun Happy Hour places :)

OMG this place is so good and so much fun and their karaoke machine is easy to use. I also think they have special mics because I was singing much better here. The service was exceptional all night and they helped us keep the party going! I literally texted like a few other friends about this place while we were here tonight!

Can't recommend Taisho more! Really great for karaoke nights and i was pleasantly surprised by their food -- can't tell which I liked more!!! This placed used to be Yamasho but the family that over did such a good job reinvigorating the spot. Can't wait to come back. The good: - service was 110% - thanks for the great time! - the food was really great. GET THEIR CHICKEN WINGS. I think they won some award for best chicken wings in the city or something... but yeah, that was such a highlight. Also, we bought like 5 curry loco mocos for everyone to share in our karaoke room and it was a blast lol. - the drinks were fairly priced. they even have house sake for $8/ large bottle. I can't remember how many we got, but we also got a branded bottle of sake and some sparkling wine to share and it was a good time. - karoke room we were in was spacious and had a steady flow of AC so you will never feel too hot lol The meh: - i thought their spam musubis were a little on the salty side. they just need to add a bit more rice is all -- maybe you can ask for that.

Came in on a karaoke night and couldn't stand to eat there because of the volume but got appetizers to take out and it was all so f'king delicious. I think about this late night meal all the time. I hope I can go again eventually.

I ordered katsu curry and love the big portion they give here. The curry here is mild which is fine for me. The chicken Katsu was crispy and I loved the amount they gave for the plate. The stick rice with the musubi was lovely. The waitress even suggested a dessert to order but I declined. It's cool they have outlets by the bar seating area in case you happen to be sitting there and need to charge your phone.

Fun karaoke and amazing happy hour spot!! Went with a group of friends on a Sunday night and sang our hearts out for 2 hours. The prices for a VIP room for 15+ people and food were super good given this is in the heart of San Francisco. The food was impressively good for a karaoke bar + restaurant! The curry portions were insanely generous and I was pleasantly full after a $6 order... yeah you read that right! You can get pitchers of Sapporo and drinks for very affordable price too. I lowkey wanna gatekeep this spot for how great it is but also posting my honest thoughts here to support this local business!! I will be back!

This place is a hidden gem and I was pleasantly surprised how spacious Taisho is. As soon as my boyfriend and I entered the establishment, we were greeted with warm smiles and seated promptly. Our waitress Victoria was amicable and guided us through the menu items to see which food items would fit our palate. Kalua pork super burrito - (5/5) I typically do not enjoy kalua pork since it is typically overcooked and dry but the pork was tender and succulent. The edamame sauce was light, creamy and really elevated the burrito. Chicken karage curry- (4/5) karage was cooked to perfection and was well seasoned. The curry itself was rich and had good depth of flavor but I personally like mine spicy. Would love to see a spice jar for people to add to their curry. Overall great spot to hang out and even karaoke! Will definitely be back to try their other items.

There's something about the interior of TaishoSF that makes you relax and know that you're in for a good time. Is it the light blue paint of the interior juxtaposed with the dark woods, is it the cavernous high ceilinged main room, is it the multi-level labyrinth of Karaoke rooms (I believe there are 11 rooms of varying size) along with the large second floor banquet sized hall? Yep, there's something about these beautiful old SF buildings that look small on the outside but are surprisingly big and mesmerizing when you explore them. Makes you wonder the stories behind this Beauty of a building. TaishoSF along with the nice digs has an eclectic choice of bar foods, drinks, snacks, comfort food that will satisfy your palette. Did I mention that they are one of three or so locations in the city that has a Dole Whip machine? Yep, that non-dairy treat (has Pineapple and Pineapple Creme) that you remember from Hawaii or Disneyland. One thought, please add a Dole Whip Float like Disneyland's Enchanted Tiki Room. Along with drinks, there's a good variety of fried foods like Chicken Kaarage, Spam Fries served in a Spam can, Battered Fried Portobello Burger, - all crunchy good without being too oily. I know what you're thinking, I've got a fried food fetish, but hey you're in a Kaaroke / Bar and the saltiness and crunchiness of fried food pairs well with drinks and singing. For you people looking for something more substantial, they have Curry Katsu, Spam Musubi, salads, and other items to choose from. I look forward to coming back to one of the many Kaaroke rooms, possibly try to get an invite to a rumored BTS Army party coming up, or just hang out and talk to one of the owners who has the perfect personality for being a host. Rooting for this new place in an old Queen of a building.

Stumbled into this spot only to find out it had opened to the public just 2 hours ago!! Being that it's location is right across the 24hour fitness on Van Ness, I saw Kenji passing out the menu and couldn't resist eating at a restaurant that JUST opened. Plus, an after workout meal?! I like to call it: FATE. We were able to catch their pop up menu and prices. We ordered karaage and chicken katsu curry, on top of that we got complimentary sake and dole whip. The karaage was no lie probably one of my favorites. It's crispy, not too bread-y, and has some juicy chicken. The boyf loved the chicken katsu and thinks the curry was delicious. We both thought that both dishes could have a bit more spice/have the option for spice. But that's just our crazy spice food palette speaking. (Side Shichimi pls) The dole whip was on point! The boyf kept saying "MMM" after every bite. He claims it to be the best dole whip in SF (Fighting words, I know). I thought the flavor of their dole whip was super similar to Hawaii but not Hawaii consistency. This spot is spacious. High ceilings, open bar set up (they are working to get their 47 license), and the downstairs has private karaoke rooms you and your friends can rent out for X hours. Happy and excited I was one of the first people to enjoy this new restaurant. I believe in this delicious spot and can't wait to do drunk karaoke here with my friends! Came here to grab some small bites after an event -- though my friends & I only stayed for half an hour, we loved the vibes! The servers were quick & efficient, plus the food came out in a timely manner (& delicious!!). Even the boss came to our table & we had such a welcoming conversation with him. A big party came out (I'm assuming out of a karaoke room) & from my observation, they were all very joyful & as if they had a great experience as well. People were hanging around the bar in Christmas spirit even though it was pouring rain & gloomy outside. My friends & I are not from the area, so it was nice to have this memorable experience right after a fun night. 1000/10, will definitely be coming back again.

sticky floors throughout the entire building. i felt gross just being there because of the stickiness. the tables were also extremely sticky. x-large room is TINY. would not recommend.

This amazing place is where we celebrated our friends 50th bday . The private room is very ideal for our group .We had a great time . We're not shy to show case our talent .Very easy to find and there's a parking just in front of the restaurant . The owner is so accommodating and easy to talk to . Came for lunch today with friends. We all ordered different stuff so we could share. Loco moco, Teri burger, portobello burger, Kailua pork nachos and drinks. All yummy...fast, friendly service and super yummy!

Every time I've been here previously it's gone smoothly and chicken katsu sandwich has been really good so I had given it 5 stars. Customer service is great. But my sandwich this time had almost no trace of the spicy mayo making it dryer than it should be... if you skimp on a key ingredient that is essential to the sandwich's taste, it's just not the same sandwich. ‍

Had the chance to have dinner at this cool new restaurant. Speaking with the staff. They told me all the great features that we couldn't see. I believe they said like 12 rooms for karaoke. Which I think is pretty cool and will definitely bring back my kids to have some fun. Really was a fun place. The ambience was nice and I have to say the food was pretty amazing. I guess it's a mixture of hawaiian, japanese. Definitely tried the curry chicken. I thought it was the best. Wasn't too heavy, nice taste to it. Wasn't able to try everything I wanted on the menu so I will definitely be back and updating about my experience.

TLDR; family owned, kalua pork burrito is smack, karaoke rooms, worth your try! Wife and I were near the area and stumbled upon this new Japanese/Hawaiian fusion restaurant and decided to give it a try- worth noting they also have 10+ karaoke rooms so it seems like a great place for weekends to go sing your heart out! Ambiance- 4/5 We came on a Sunday for lunch and the place was huge; I could easily tell this place gets filled Fri/Sat nights. I was told they had just started expirementing with lunch hours so perfect timing. Plenty of tables and they also have counter seats if you wanted to watch all the kitchen action. Only reason I gave it a 4/5 is because I know they're new owners and could possibly change up the vibes. Customer Service- 5/5 (Tip- try to get Nick as your waiter!) Our waiter, Nick, was extremely attentive from seating us to walking us out. He took the time to explain the restaurant history, the menu, drinks, and all they have to offer including popular items. It's a family owned restaurant which makes it that much more important to support this business! Nick was so kind to have let us try their house sake and even brought out a bowl of a their oxtail porridge to taste (oxtail porridge was delicious! Very distinct beef/rich flavor). If you're reading this, thanks for everything Nick! Ok now the good stuff.. Alcohol (not rating)- wife got a guava cart and I opted for the Far Yeast Kagua Rouge. It's an creamy ale with a a sweet/bitter balanced flavor. Very refreshing yet strong enough for a big boy like me : ) Food: Karaage (4/5) and Angel Wing Gyoza (4/5) chicken was def juicy with a crispy outer layer, the dipping sauce was a Japanese mayo spicy dip which paired perfectly. The presentation of the gyoza was very intricate, they're banded together with this crispy chip crust with a soy sauce/vinegar based dipping sauce. Katsu Curry- 5/5 like the karaage, chicken breading was perfectly crusted and moist in the inside. The curry was piping hot when it came out- had potatos, onions, and carrots in the curry for a hearty sauce. Comes with a large scoop of rice with furikake seasoning and a side of ginger which was really refreshing. I would rate the spice on the curry a mildium (in between mild - medium lol) which is perfect for our taste buds. Kalua Pork Burrito- 5/5 This was my favorite- tender and well marinated pork shoulder with a creamy spicy mayo-marinaded rice and some veggies and cheese. The pork flavor was very rich and earthy as if they actually use banana leaves to marinade! This flew me back to Oahu and I was pleasantly suprised by how flavorful and creamy the texture was. It was a very distinct taste that I could only get in Hawaii. It also comes with chips and homemade salsa- I would buy their salsa! My next visit I'm definitely going to try: Furikake Fries, Teriyaki or Portobello burger, oxtail porridge, and def the dole whip! All in all, I'm extremely excited to see this place grow and have already let my freinds know about this place. We want to go together for a karaoke session soon and will need to update my review on how the experience is at night. I'd urge you guys to support this family-run business!

My taiko group reserved a VIP room to celebrate our participation in the 2024 Cherry Blossom Festival. Our teacher preferred a place where you can bring your own food/drink but honestly, after the stress and length of the grand parade, sustenance would have been hard to come by. We also had 21 people RSVP, so Taisho's ability to serve our large group size plus its proximity to Japantown put it at the top of our picks, and I'm really glad we ultimately went with them. The karaoke system was a bit difficult to navigate, but then again, I'm used to the systems in Japan which you don't find often stateside. It still had a decent selection of songs in many languages and decades, plus the kind staff explained how to use it before we began. The happy hour offerings were quite the deal on top of being tasty, and we were able to sing, eat, and drink to our hearts' content for 2+ hours. I'll definitely keep Taisho in mind for my next karaoke party in the city, and you should too!

We came in here on a Saturday night around 7 pm. We sat in the main area where they had music playing -- I even got coerced into singing a little Karaoke. A few things to mention about the food: - spam fries: these were so good and came in the spam tin - oxtail porridge: there weren't much pieces of meat - vegetarian curry: this was good and a great option for the vegetarians out there I thought that the pricing of the food was pretty reasonable and everyone working there was nice!

Food was great but the energy of the bar and karaoke was top notch. Went in for late eats and it turned into way more. Ownership gave us gratis shots and dole whip to sing karaoke and I wasn't going to disappoint. They had several mics so everyone could join in on the fun! Great time at a random spot that I will definitely making my way back to!

Been wanting to check this place out after seeing posts about it on social media, so glad I did! When we arrived around 10pm on a Friday night, it wasn't busy, but after about an hour, the place filled up with karaoke singers making the vibes so much fun! The food is really good, too! They have pineapple Dole Whip! Yummy! - Chicken Katsu Sando (substituted with Japanese white bread) with fries - Spam Sando with Furikake fries

These guys are LEGIT! The Karaoke is top notch, and the service is prompt to your private room. Drinks come fast, food is served late and is a perfect complement to the loads of Sake I was drinking! Definitely doing another party here!

I was a Yamasho regular and I am so excited to see Taisho is now open and retained the karaoke rooms (English and Japanese still available!). But for me the most exciting thing about Taisho is the food. I loved Yamasho but admittedly the food was pretty mediocre. That is no longer the case. The curry loco moco and Dole whip I had at Taisho were better than any food I've ever had at Yamasho. It's definitely more of a Hawaiian menu now, and given the quality of the food I had, that change is a good thing. My friends and I have been waiting for years to organize another karaoke night and now that I've eaten lunch here, I'm already confident Taisho is going to be one of my favorite spots in the city. You also can get your karaoke room comped if you order a certain amount of food and drink, and if their whole menu is as good as what I ate, you'll have a great time. I can't wait to come back with a group and sing!

Tasty Japanese/Hawaiian inspired cuisine. Had the chicken sandwich, which was crispy and not overdone.

This little hole in the wall just opened and easily the best place to hang out with friends, drink and karaoke in the city! They have a huge range of sake on their menu and japanese/hawaiian fusion food items. We were able to try: - chicken katsu curry over rice 5/5 the short grain rice was perfect, chicken was soft and the batter was light yet flavorful - furikake fries w/ fried egg 4/5 - vegetable tempura 5/5 the batter was one of the best tempura I've tried and huge portions - dole whip 5/5 yes they have dole whip! And you have an option to get a vanilla/dole whip mix which was so good and refreshing - service 5/5 very attentive and quick service from their staff Highly recommend for anyone looking for a fun dinner spot, private parties, karaoke rooms, great ambience, or drinks Will definitely be back for our next date night or group outing !

My husband and I love to try new places that newly opened up. We like to beat the rush before the public find out which can result in long lines or no reservations. We are super glad we got to try this place! The food was amazing. We ordered the Japanese curry katsu, spam fries, and tempura. They were crispy with the perfect crunch, and the curry had so much depth and flavor. We were delighted to find out they have karaoke too! The ambiance was super fun and casual. My husband and I will definitely be back to try more dishes!

On New Year's night, my group of nine stumbled upon Taisho SF by chance and spontaneously decided to get a karaoke room. The staff, especially the manager, were incredibly kind and accommodating to our large group. Unlike other karaoke spots, the manager personally escorted us downstairs, warmly welcoming us and guiding us on how to use the karaoke machine. It was a refreshing change from the usual experience of being left to figure out the machines on our own. We ordered Taisho Fries and the Spam Fries. Both were so good!! Taisho is fairly new, and so clean! I would definitely come back again to try out the restaurant upstairs and hop on the open mic karaoke experience sometime. Lastly, unlike other karaoke spots, nothing here is sticky!!

After Yamasho closed, me and my friends and cousins were eager to try the restaurant that took over the 1161 Post Street space, once Taisho's opening was first mentioned in local food websites ca. 2022. Worth the wait! We have already been here twice in a week during the soft opening and have tried quite a few of the menu items, my personal favorite being the edamame dip (flavorful and light!). Spam fries are unique and fun. I've had the teriyaki burger and the katsu sandwich as well, along with the fried chicken. Owner and staff are extremely friendly and attentive with service at all times, whether in the dining area or at karaoke! (Their treats of Dole Whip after meals bring a smile to my face) The karaoke systems have been upgraded significantly from the Yamasho era - I did a couple of karaoke parties before in their rooms, and the current setup is much more up to date with songs (Beabadoobee! Aespa!) in many different languages. And the return of the late night hours is a pleasant surprise! I am very excited to keep visiting Taisho as they grow into their space and eventually expand their menu offerings.

Spam French fries. Need I say more? Peered with shishito peppers, blistered in a pan or over an open flame, then drizzled with soy sauce and a sprinkle of sesame seeds.Karaage fried chicken, essentially cut up chicken thighs that are breaded and fried. With a crisp IPA, makes for a fantastic lunch. Attentive waitress. I'm told if you come back at night, the karaoke is off the chain. Fun place. Highly recommended.

Wanted to check out this new spot because it has great reviews and nearby. Coming in, we were greeted with a friendly smile. The restaurant had a nice ambiance I cannot recall the waitress's name, but she was really nice and attentive. There was also a waiter who came around with good conversation and shared a few laughs. I ordered the Katsu curry and paired it with guava juice.. that i forgot to shake beforehand (oops). Overall, great chill experience and will return to try more things on the menu.

This is long overdue ! We hosted a karaoke dinner night ,for a group I was managing in October , at TaishoSF. We will be back. It is the perfect place for groups. We had 42 people in their largest private banquet room with an amazing menu of gyoza, veggie curry, tempura, teri chicken .... The portions are generous and the food is really good . If you are hosting a dinner or lunch party this is the place to go to . Their billing is transparent and they do not nickel and dime you !

We came here with a group for a birthday party and had a great time. I ended up losing my phone while there, and the staff was AMAZING in helping me find it, reviewing security footage frame by frame with me in order to see the phone and what had happened. This place and staff is top notch -- upstanding in a city that isn't always (and I love SF). We would 100% recommend them for any group Gathering or night out.

The owners are so nice, they even offered free shots of Sake! The food was great. We got the Spam fries and a curry dish. Delicious!

We went to TaishoSF for a birthday karaoke night and had a wonderful time! Good food and music selection, but the customer service was truly the best. Everyone was extremely kind, friendly, and helpful - especially Nick, who patiently and earnestly helped us resolve a payment issue that was a customer error. Also, karaoke prices are not calculated per hour, which allowed us to enjoy ourselves much more than at many places that charge for a whole hour if you go a minute over. Would definitely go back and recommend this place to others for a long night with friends, where you can order a full dinner plus drinks :-)

Taisho was the perfect stop for happy hour snacks and nice cold beer. We popped in before going to a gig around the corner at the theater on Van Ness. It was happy hour so we got a picture of beer, edamame 'guacamole' and chips, pork nachos, Gyozo, and my favorite: four chicken drummies at bargain prices! The drummers were so crispy and delicious and we're a good size. The food we bought for two Was way more than we actually needed. Delicious. Great price. Nice people. plenty of things to look at and sports game on the TVs. Next time we come, we have to run to karaoke room. Will be amazing. I'm sure. Last visit June 6. 2024. Weekday. Thanks to Victoria for getting us in and making us feel welcome. Thanks to the kitchen for getting us in and out in lightning speed. Our pleasure to meet the owner as well. Nice touch to thank your patrons (a long loathing art it seems). We'll def. be back!

We were sad when our go-to karaoke spot, Yama Sho, closed down... and thus were overjoyed when it was reborn as TaishoSF! The new owner has carried on the legacy of Yama Sho with much of the same decor (as a tribute to the Yama Sho owners, who we learned passed away). But the menu, the kitchen, and the karaoke equipment have all been dramatically upgraded. The food is now Hawaiian-inspired, and delicious. A plate of kalua pork nachos is the perfect dish to share while belting out off-key power ballads with your friends. They even have a Dole Whip machine, one of only a few places in the Bay Area that have one. The karaoke machines have been upgraded to touch-screens, and have an expansive library of songs. There's bound to be something for everyone. My only nitpick (as a Broadway nerd) is that Yama Sho had a few more Broadway musicals in their database, but that's probably not a big deal for most (cooler) people, haha. Another nice new addition is the generous happy hour, which runs from 5-7 and features bargain prices on the food (which are an even crazier bargain by SF standards). The food is good, the staff is friendly and responsive, the karaoke rooms are clean, and there's an old Street Fighter II arcade machine in the dining room... what more could you ask for? RIP Yama Sho, but the legacy endures. We will definitely will be visiting TaishoSF again soon.
