Family-owned institution since 1927 serves tureens of soup & other French bistro staples.
"After several years of public discourse and a semi-failed historic preservation bid, it appears that Taix—in its current form—will eventually bite the dust. Now’s the time to pay your respects. The old-school French spot has been in Echo Park since 1962, and though it isn’t known for serving the finest French food in LA, you'll never forget your time inside the musty, chandelier-adorned dining room. Our favorite night here is Sunday, when they roll out their iconic Sunday Supper menu—split pea soup, salad, an entree, and sherbert—all for $25 per person. " - brant cox, sylvio martins, arden shore
"If the things you miss most about your childhood are the creepy holiday decorations at your grandparents’ house, you’re in luck—all those dead-eyed elves and duck-footed reindeer have up and zombie-walked to Taix. This French restaurant in Echo Park gets decked out every year with decorations we assume they’ve had since they first opened in 1927. The food here is nothing spectacular, but no matter what you order, make sure you start with the French onion soup. It’s about 50% cheese, which is just how we like it." - brant cox
"Ostrich Farm serves fantastic, slightly fancy versions of breakfast classics, so it’s a great option when you’re in the mood for something different, and by different you mean you want prosciutto in your breakfast sandwich. Sit at the bar, order a ginger-lemon shandy, and banter with the bartender about the best and worst songs karaoke songs of all time." - brett keating
"The classic French restaurant in Echo Park is now offering outdoor dining in their parking lot. The set up includes umbrellas, potted plants, and a lot of steak-frites." - brett keating
"Your parents are in town, and your mom has reminded you for the fifth time that your dad refuses to eat anything he hasn’t heard of before. Take them to Ostrich Farm. The kinda-fancy American restaurant in Echo Park serves all the staples - meatballs, caesar salad, grilled meats - but they all have something extra that will make your parents feel adventurous because their caesar salad was charred. Baby steps." - amy clark, brett keating
