Taj Coral Reef is undoubtedly a beautiful property, and I want to be fair in saying that I did enjoy parts of my stay. The snorkeling was excellent, the waters are crystal clear, and the island itself is exactly what one imagines when visiting the Maldives. I spent my time swimming, snorkeling, relaxing, and enjoying the scenery — and those moments were genuinely enjoyable.||||However, most of that enjoyment came from what I chose to do on my own, rather than from the service provided by the resort.||||The biggest disappointment was the inconsistency in service, which at times felt selective. I repeatedly noticed certain guests receiving noticeably more attention, quicker responses, and proactive service, while I felt ignored or deprioritized on multiple occasions. This wasn’t a one-off moment — it was a recurring feeling throughout the stay and it does affect how welcome you feel as a paying guest.||||A few examples that stood out:||||I clearly communicated multiple times that I do not drink sugary soda and requested that the minibar be stocked with no-sugar Coke. Over a 4-day stay, this request was fulfilled only once. Every other restock contained regular soda, despite repeated reminders.||||My wife had a photoshoot planned and needed to use her Dyson hair styler, but the Australian plug was not supported in the room. When I called reception, I was told someone would be sent to assist. We waited, but no one came, and eventually we had to give up because we were running out of time for the shoot.||||I paid extra for a water villa, which was visually stunning and had a great sound system. However, the TV did not support Netflix. I initially assumed this was a general limitation and accepted it. Later, when we moved to a beach villa (a less premium category), Netflix worked perfectly there — making the inconsistency hard to justify.||||I also requested that the sun lounger mattress in my villa be replaced as it was wet due to rain, but there was no response to this request either.||||||Individually, these are small issues. But together, they reflect a lack of follow-through, attention to detail, and equal treatment, which is especially disappointing for a resort under the Taj brand and at this price point.||||The location and natural beauty are exceptional, and the Maldives itself does a lot of the work. But a luxury resort experience is defined just as much by how consistently guests are treated, and unfortunately, that is where Taj Coral Reef fell short for me.||||I had fun — but largely because I created my own experience, not because the service enhanced it.
