Hottest Spa and Wellness Trends in 2024, According to Travel Experts

"Located near the traditional birthplace of yoga, this resort pairs location-based experiences — such as visits to the Beatles Ashram or rafting the Ganges — with a focused wellness program and Ayurvedic treatments, offering both exploration of a lesser-known area and a deeply rooted approach to wellbeing." - Travel + Leisure Editors Travel + Leisure Editors Since 1971, Travel + Leisure editors have followed one mission: to inform, inspire, and guide travelers to have deeper, more meaningful experiences. Taj Rishikesh Resort & Spa, Uttarakhand

"Set the sceneTectonic forces set the scene 50 million years ago, when the Indian and Eurasian plates collided, giving rise to what we now know as the Himalayas. And what a scene it is, of forest, hills, river, and distant snow-capped peaks. What’s the backstory?Rishikesh has been prime Hindu pilgrimage territory for centuries, and is familiar to Westerners wishing to follow in the footsteps of the Beatles, who came here in a blaze of publicity in 1968. Still, this is not a part of India that tends to be at the top of many travelers’ lists, though it should be. This thoughtfully designed hotel, with its rooms peppered across a steep hillside, all facing the Ganges and incorporating local materials and design touches, will do much to help the cause. What can we expect in our room?A view of the river and the sheer hillside, which is not too shabby for starters. Otherwise, a generously proportioned, well-appointed, entirely spotless space with floor-to-ceiling windows and sliding doors that open onto a little terrace where macaque monkeys are eager to make your acquaintance. How about the food and drink?A revelation. The state of Uttarakhand has its own distinctive twist—pulse-heavy and coarsely textured, not zingy and saucy—that is little known elsewhere in India, let alone in the world. Taj Rishikesh provides the perfect introduction to these flavors, both at its main restaurant, Rock Flour, and at its smaller Riverside restaurant, which specializes in what it calls "Gangetic and provincial Himalayan" dishes. If familiarity is needed, by way of pizza or pasta or Punjabi butter chicken, all that is available elsewhere in the hotel too. What’s the crowd like?A mixture of well-heeled Westerners whose backpacking days are behind them and well-heeled Indians who may have bypassed the backpacking phase altogether. A significant proportion of guests are likely here to take advantage of the Jiva Spa—the largest of Taj’s signature spas, administering the treatments that have made the brand beloved. Anything to say about the service? What it may, at certain moments during our stay, have lacked in polish, it more than made up for in warmth, enthusiasm, and kindness. We suspect the wrinkles will have been ironed out by now. What’s the neighborhood scene like? The neighborhood scenery, you mean. Despite its name, the hotel is in fact some distance from Rishikesh, or any other town that might have a neighborhood scene to speak of. Instead, it is surrounded by magnificent forest and steep hills, bisected by the Ganges, which, at this point early in its course, flows fast and cold and pure. Anything else to add?Do explore Rishikesh. It's no longer the blissed-out sanctuary the Beatles wished it to be, if it ever was, but has its own curious aura of slightly frantic holiness. Also spend time in Devprayag, the town at the confluence of three rivers and the starting point of the mighty Ganges. Anything you’d change? The hotel offers daily meditation and yoga classes, and guests are invited to attend Ganga Aarti, a moving ceremony that honors the river every day at sunset. Sung prayers are traditionally accompanied by a harmonium; however, the accompaniment comes not from that ancient and wonderful instrument but Bluetooth-enabled portable speakers, which rather kiboshes the romance and grandeur of it all. Is it worth it?You might say it is a bargain, actually, considering its remote location, its high level of comfort, the excellence of its kitchens and spa, and the absence of anything else even vaguely like it for many a hilly mile in any direction." - Steve King

"We do love a good independent one-off boutique hotel, but we’re not above acknowledging when one of the big hospitality chains is doing extraordinary work. That’s very much the case with India’s massive Taj group at the moment, and Taj Rishikesh Resort & Spa, Uttarakhand is yet another stunning new opening — this one at a bend in the Ganges river in the foothills of the Himalayas, offering astounding views of the river and the mountains in every direction." - Tablet Hotels

It’s the most amazing hotel. The welcome by the Maharaj chanting and tika was nice and different. The rooms are spacious with beautiful views. The restaurant by the river serves great pizzas. The staff was really good. The high tea was great… with bangle makers and palm readers. The food at the local cuisine restaurant was very tasty. Overall it was a wonderful stay.. will definitely visit again. The Ganga Aarti in the evening was so well done. We took a small 4 hour trek with a guide from the hotel.. it was fun and exhilarating. Breakfast area is beautiful and the fresh juice counter, and the local food counter was much appreciated.

We recently enjoyed a vacation at Taj Rishikesh and had a truly wonderful experience. The property is beautifully located on the banks of the River Ganga, and the pleasant weather further enhanced its charm. The food was exceptional and truly a highlight of our stay.|The team at Taj Rishikesh was warm, attentive, and extremely forthcoming. We would especially like to acknowledge Ankit, Gaurav, Nikita, and Rahul for their outstanding service. We also had the pleasure of interacting with senior team members Mr. Rakesh, Ms. Jyoti, and Mr. Mishra, whose hospitality made our stay even more memorable.

Beautiful scenery. Quiet atmosphere. Service plentiful, personal, caring, friendly, and second to none. Every detail was taken care of, with genuine attention to making it as positive an experience as possible. Morning yoga was gentle yet invigorating. Sound healing was pleasant and peaceful. Evening Ganga aarti was authentic and serene. Morning complimentary breakfast was a well rounded feast with fresh ingredients. The gym and spa were perfect and had everything one might want. Individual yoga booking was also really good. Excursions such as Devprayag diaries, Himalayan mountain trek, Rishikesh City were all well worth it and smooth with attentive guide the entire time. The star gazing and cooking class were also fun, right at the resort, and fulfilling!

Truly experienced ganga here! It's far away from Rishikesh but the location is just next to Ganga river. It's so beautiful and magical. The atmosphere is so positive. The rooms are good. It's a bit expensive but I have not seen such beautiful ganga side hotel anywhere else, so it's valuable for that. Cleanliness is perfect. 0 noise level. Service is really good, the staffs are really helpful. They have lots of amenities, I have really enjoyed it.

Beautiful! One of a kind property in India. Sit anywhere on the grounds and you'll experience pure nature and peace. Walk down to the Ganga and forget about the daily chaos of life. From the rooms to the restaurants, everything was perfect. The property offers an unmatched blend of luxury and tranquility that's hard to find elsewhere.

You cannot go wrong with Taj. |Excellent resort at a very good location with access to the Ganga from the resort itself. We stayed in the Premium Villa (mountain view). Room/amenities were very good as usual at Taj Hotels. Good walking paths and buggies for internal transport . All Staff were very attentive and helpful and took good care of us during the stay. We ate at the Rock Flour restaurant and the menu/food was very good including the Buffet breakfast and High Tea. We also used their arranged Singtali valley trek and vist to Kurn Mountains and Devaprayag in addition to safe and secure airport transfers.|A great place for Rest and Relaxation that we wanted.

Our stay at hotel nothing short of extraordinary. From the moment we arrived, every detail reflected warmth, luxury, and genuine care. What truly stood out was the staff. Every single person we met went above and beyond with such sincerity and grace that it’s impossible to name just one or two — the entire team was exceptional in their restaurant. We left with our hearts full and memories we’ll cherish forever. A truly blissful and luxurious retreat — hotel sets the benchmark for hospitality.

We were served by Akshay, and we couldn’t have asked for a better dining experience. The food was excellent — we tried both vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes, and everything was delicious. However, the rating reflects our experience at the hotel reception. The staff there could benefit from soft skills and hospitality training. When attending to guests in a fine-dining property, professionalism and courtesy should come naturally — not an attitude that feels out of place. Additionally, I would request the management to clearly mention in advance that guests dining at the restaurant are not allowed access to the beach, even after paying a cover charge of ₹3000 per person. This should be communicated upfront, especially since the beach is a public area.
