We stayed at Taj Rishikesh for three nights during the monsoon as a family with kids, and the experience exceeded expectations in ways that felt both understated and memorable. While the property is known for its luxury, it was the attention to detail, the sincerity of the service, and the breathtaking natural setting that truly stood out.||Room & Design||We booked a room with a king bed, and from the moment we entered, it was clear that the space had been curated with both elegance and practicality in mind. The interiors were luxurious without being overdone—minimalist wood and stone elements, clean lines, and a calming colour palette allowed the view to take centre stage. And what a view: sweeping Himalayan slopes, shrouded in monsoon mist, with the feeling that you’re suspended in nature. Even the sofa bed was surprisingly well-designed, with no compromise on comfort.||Small touches added an extra layer of hospitality—daily gifts like locally made delicacies and natural face masks arrived in the room, and every interaction felt thought through. Housekeeping was seamless and invisible, with the room always feeling spotless and refreshed.||Nature & Setting||While river access was understandably restricted due to the monsoon season, the mountains were visible in full force—verdant, close, and ever-present. The hotel is cleverly built so that whether you’re walking to the dining area, lounging at the pool, or even stepping outside your room, the views remain front and centre. There were multiple trekking opportunities nearby (weather permitting), and even just being on the property felt like a nature retreat.||Hospitality & Staff||This was, hands down, the most consistently high level of hospitality we’ve experienced at a hotel. It wasn’t just polite professionalism—it felt like every staff member was personally invested in making us feel welcome and looked after.||From the reception to the restaurant to the spa and beyond, there was a tangible sense of warmth. Staff were proactive, responsive, and thoughtful without ever being intrusive. Some standout names worth mentioning:| • Mihir at reception| • Ankit and Chandan, our waiters| • Bajrang at the pool| • Shivani, who led our yoga, etc| • Hitesh in the main office||It wasn’t just about delivering service—it was about creating an atmosphere where nothing felt like a hassle. Whether it was getting spa essentials delivered, custom dessert orders, or simply arranging a golf cart for the steep walk, it all happened quickly and kindly.||Dining||Food was a major highlight. The stay included complimentary breakfast, high tea, and one main meal (lunch or dinner), and the range of options exceeded what we expected. The dining format combined buffet and à la carte, with cuisines ranging from authentic Indian to Mediterranean and even Southeast Asian. Every dish we tried—from the simplest poha to the more elaborate desserts—was cooked with precision and presented beautifully.||Again, the staff made the experience shine. They ensured the kids had exactly what they wanted, offered suggestions without pressure, and went out of their way to accommodate preferences.||Spa, Yoga & Activities||The Spa experience was deeply relaxing, and the sound healing session was something we hadn’t tried before—definitely unique and grounding. Yoga with Shivani was excellent, offering a balance of mindfulness and physicality that worked for both beginners and those more experienced.||The pool was a favourite spot for us—not just because of the water itself, but because it overlooked both the Ganges and the Himalayan cliffs. Even on cloudy days, the view was captivating. Golf carts helped navigate the steep terrain with ease, and the Ganga Aarti offered by the hotel was a thoughtful, interactive spiritual experience—gentle and not overly commercialised, which we appreciated.||Overall Feel||There was something very storybook-like about this stay. The initial arrival, with rituals and warm greetings, set a spiritual tone, but the architecture and comfort brought it firmly into the realm of luxury. There was a quiet harmony between simplicity and indulgence that Taj Rishikesh seems to have mastered.||Final Thoughts||We left feeling rested, deeply cared for, and emotionally lighter. It’s not often a hotel manages to create an experience where every member of the family—from kids to adults—feels equally satisfied. It’s also not often you feel like you want to come back, not out of habit but out of a genuine connection to a place. For us, Taj Rishikesh has become one of those rare finds.||Best moments:| • The staff’s genuine effort to care for us| • Seeing the mountain view for the first time| • Swimming in the pool with clouds rolling over the cliffs||We absolutely plan to return.
