Best Ramen in San Diego | Eater San Diego

"Tajima is a ramen empire with multiple locations found in College Heights, East Village, Hillcrest, North Park and Mercury, but the original on Convoy is still tops among ramen enthusiasts. For something different, order their carnitas ramen, a spicy tonkatsu chicken and pork broth with carnitas, radish, cilantro and lime among its ingredients." - darlene-horn

Tajima Ramen Opens Sixth Location During Shutdown - Eater San Diego

"Opened just days after restaurants were banned from offering dine-in service, Tajima’s newest location in the College Area made its debut at a less-than-optimal time. Since its quiet opening, the ramen shop — Tajima’s sixth overall in San Diego — has been operating for takeout via walk-in or online orders and delivery through UberEats, DoorDash, Postmates and GrubHub." - Candice Woo

Award-Winning Tokyo Ramen Arrives in North County - Eater San Diego

"Acclaimed chef Ryuichiro Shinagawa of Tokyo’s Basso Drillman has opened Ramen Menma Basso Drillman in downtown Oceanside, becoming the latest Japanese ramen expert to choose San Diego as the launching point for U.S. expansion. Winner of the Michelin Bib Gourmand award for four consecutive years, Shinagawa also runs a ramen shop in his home town of Akita, Japan, which is also home base for Takashi Endo, the chef behind Kearny Mesa’s runaway hit, Menya Ultra Ramen. Basso Drillman’s signature ramen is a soup-less style called aburasso, based on well-seasoned, chewy noodles topped with slow-cooked chashu pork, bamboo shoots, cabbage, and green onions. The shop also offers shoyu ramen made with a simmered soup of chicken, pork, and seafood and a red hot miso ramen that adds miso and mild cheese to spicy broth. A special deluxe bowl option features two extra pieces each of pork and bamboo and a seasoned soft boiled egg. The chef makes his own noodles in Japan, and may add a noodle-making area to the Oceanside branch or a future location. Beer, wine, and sake will be added later, as well as other appetizers and side dishes. Ramen Menma Basso Drillman is open Tuesday to Sunday from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m." - Candice Woo

Came on a late Friday night, and they were still quite busy. The parking lot is kind of small and it's usually hard to find an open spot. They serve more than ramen here but not many dishes for vegetarians, vegans or ones that doesn't eat pork. Our order didn't take long to arrive to the table. Each person ordered a different type of ramen bowl: traditional Tonkatsu, spicy sesame, chicken, and vegan. The broth were light but enjoyable. The chashu were thinly sliced, easier to eat than having it overwhelming fatty and thick cut. It's all personal preference. The only downfall was I thought the servings were quite small. Was it the best ramen? No, but it's ok. It wouldn't be a place I would stress to find parking for if a spot wasn't already open.

Great experience, everything we ordered was delicious. Very friendly service. Their happy hour menu is outstanding and reasonably priced. Some great starter items and drinks for around $3.50! With every restaurant seemingly overpriced these days, it was nice to get a “deal”. A local legend in SD for a reason!

Finding parking is horrible ! It is all about the broth though. We had the chicken ramen and the veggie ramen. 🍜 Both amazing. Chicken itself was dry and hard but the flavors of the broth and noodle made up for it.

My first time getting ramen. Menu is pretty small and two of the things I wanted were unavailable. Our server was excellent. It’s not a big space but very echoey, so a little hard to talk.

Tajima never disappoints! The ramen was absolutely delicious -- we tried the Tajima White and the Chicken Ramen, and both bowls were packed with flavor and perfectly balanced. The service was excellent from start to finish, and everyone was super friendly, which really made the experience even better. Special shoutout to Ethan and Brandon who went above and beyond, making us feel so welcomed and well taken care of. We ended the meal with the matcha panna cotta and ice cream, and it was the perfect sweet finish. If you're craving ramen in San Diego, this is the spot. Can't wait to come back!

Came here with our kids. Sticker shock may hit you, but you are paying for authentic Ramen. From the variety of Ramen to the fried rice, there was nothing on the menu that did not meet expectations. Would recommend coming early to get seating. The parking garage on the back side is also a nice place if all of the front is full. 🍥

From the moment we walked in, the staff made us feel truly welcome. The cucumber salad and gyoza were absolutely delicious — fresh and flavorful. But the standout was the unique carnitas ramen; such a creative twist and incredibly tasty! Highly recommend this spot for anyone looking for a memorable dining experience.
