Tajimaya Shabu Shabu

"The owner believes hot pot dinner is the perfect occasion for diners to chat and have a good time. That’s why the servers here cook the food for them so that they won’t be distracted from their conversations. Apart from local seafood and veggies, he also imports wagyu and Tajima beef directly from Japan to ensure the quality. If you feel like splurging a little, order a whole fish or a Filipino lobster to share." - Michelin Inspector

Delicious food and unusual concept. The server does the cooking helping with your hotpot. No problem with a vegetarian order. Well spaced seating. Romantic spot.

Excellent table-side service, beautiful decor, delicate tableware, and high-quality food. However, the soup was extremely flavourless, even with the lobster and signature beef I ordered, it was just too plain. Best item was the congee, but I feel that the congee flavor was mainly held up by the lobster that had stewed in the pot. The most depressing item was the dessert - it was mostly just pistachio cream. I was lucky - I asked if there was more than one option of dessert, hence, I received a sweet-potato cake, which was much, much better than the original option. And also - couldn't order a simple glass of tapwater, which was really weird. The staff was insistent that she could not serve a glass of normal tapwater/ordinary water. I would recommend this restaurant for a simple date, nothing too extravagant. And the lobster is a must-order, if you prefer a stronger and more flavorful meal. But the CP value of this restaurant is so-so. No promotions offers with AMEX as well, which was also weird, since most of the other restaurants like Ya Ge, Mandarin Cafe, and Bencotto have promotion offers with AMEX.

Great Service and Fresh Ingredients. And the congee in the end is the best! Why not have someone cook the sushi for you so that every piece of meat / seafood is at its best?

Have been back more than half a dozen times and never been disappointed. The food quality is superb, so is the friendly service. Neil, the manager always makes us feel at home and welcome.

The prime rib was very soft and juicy. The service was very good. They will make a finger at the end for you!

Yesterday was my first time eating there but four of five people who ate there had diarrhea afterwards, including my son who continues to have stomach problems this morning. Service and atmosphere was decent but the food quality needs improvement…

Food was great but extremely poor service especially the waiter called Coal. Avoid this.

Yelp
Being Japanese I believed Shabu Shabu was authentically ours but this Taiwanese hotpot puts most Japanese fondue places to shame. Their service, atmosphere and crockery is parallel to a two Michelin Star restaurant. I would not be surprised if Michelin awards them a macaroon if they haven't already. From the intricate designed entrance to the marbled dining table, glazed porcelain plates, copper pot, wooden utensils and endless pours of high mountain oolong tea escalated the dining experience to my utmost satisfaction. We ordered the Australian Wagyu and Black Pearl Táiwān pork shabu sets which comes with a crab paste appetizer to start, assorted vegetables, congee with the hot pot broth and dessert. With three people they recommended we get two sets and order a la cart. We also got side orders of cheese chikuwa ( fish paste filled with cheese ), Nama yuba ( fresh tofu skin ), udon and tofu. They cook all the fresh Táiwān and Japanese produce and meat in front of you and gently places them on your plate. Providing the choice to vacillate between dipping it into the sesame or a lovely ponzu sauce. I was extremely impressed by their cooking method , the order the vegetables and meats were cooked and served to bring out the sweetness and delicate flavor of each ingredient- never letting the pot boil. To finish, our broth with barely any cloudiness is simmered down with bowl of koshihikari rice into a thick congee that absorbed all the flavors of our meal allowing us to relive the entire meal one more time. To close, they served Sun Moon Lake tea with a delectable sweet morsel. This is by far the best hot pot I've had, truly renowned hotpot dining experience and a culinary education of its own.

Yelp
I've never been too impressed with shabu shabu in taipei until i came to this place. Man...this place blows 橘色 (orange shabu shabu) away. Its about the the same price range, but much more luxurious setting, better ingredients, higher quality meats and seafood, and best of all you have a personal waitress dedicated to your table to cook and serve everything the entire night. It even beats 橘色 orange at its own congee game. However, the only thing that it loses is its dessert. Still cant beat the almond tofu dessert 杏仁豆腐 at 橘色. We each got a different set menu so we could all share and tastes the different items. They were very nice and suggested that we order just two sets and add the two individual ala carte items. As the vegetables in the two sets would be enough for the four of us and they said they would also throw in extra appetizers and desserts on the house so all four of us would have those. The vegetables in the set were also of the highest local quality, one of my friend mentioned as his family owns vegetable farms in asia. We got the aus wagyu, US short ribs, live lobster, and Japanese pork. The aus wagyu was excellent. The us short rib was not very good and its a good thing the waitress was knowledgeable and cook this to us first. It would be hard to eat this if we had it after the Australian wagyu. There is a shabu shabu place in toe that serves us short rib 2x better and more marbleized for half the price. The lobster was very good and fresh. The pork was also good but not excellent. They also have a great selection of drinks, sakes, and shochu. Overall, i thought the food quality was 4.5 stars but the ambience and service is what really bumps it up to a five star. Also because its price range is almost the same as 橘色 (which i feel is 3.5 stars food quality) but this place taste, ambience, and dedicated service is so much better than that of 橘色. Totally different than my awful experience at the Thai restaurant across the hallway.

Yelp
The beef is a good quality - the soup is right - the host is great worth every dollar spent
