Amazing Japanese food with lots of variety. We ordered bento boxes and they were incredible. Good prices for such good food portions. My family and I came here to celebrate my baby’s first birthday and they even played him happy birthday and brought out a sweet little candle for him. They were so kind and friendly and I would recommend it to anyone.

Such a quaint spot in Arlington! Cute spot with neat decor, amazing food at great prices, and amazing service! Not the most fancy restaurant, but an amazing place to have some good food in peace. For dinner, we had the Kakuni Don (braised pork belly) which was absolutely splendid, and the 1) Party Sushi Combo. The Kakuni was super tender, perfectly seasoned with so much flavor! It came with choy sum, half of a soft boiled egg, Hiyayakko (soft tofu with peanut sauce), kimchi, a bowl of rice, and a bowl of miso soup. The portions were HUGE given that it was only 20 dollars. It was a whole pork belly! The 1) Party Sushi Combo was also great! It featured 19 assorted pieces of nigiri, a normal roll and a specialty roll served in a sushi boat. I’m pretty sure we got the Rainbow Roll and the Phoenix Roll, both were delicious. Apart from the food I want to say that the decor was beautiful, making the restaurant feel very cozy and like home. There are some Japanese decorations, and also the music in the background is very nice, unlike some other places with loud music that can be disruptive. I also want to highlight the service of this restaurant. The chef of the sushi bar was really kind and gave us an extra pork dish that was on the house! The server was also very kind. One thing, the rice for normal dishes here is different from rice of other Japanese restaurants. It’s a type of rice that will be more sticky on the outside and hard on the inside. It is typical for some Japanese restaurants, but it might be a little off to some people. Just keep that in mind. We spent 100 dollars for 3 people with enough leftovers for a decent lunch the next day. Also place was pretty empty on a normal dinner time on Father’s Day, so it’s usually not that crowded. The parking is paid street parking. Overall, this restaurant makes a perfect lace to enjoy some sushi and Japanese shies in peace with good service and good atmosphere. Five stars! Definitely worth a visit! 🔥

Google
My friends and I absolutely love coming here for the food and atmosphere. The restaurant is small but not overcrowded. The interior is decorated beautifully, and it’s never too loud or busy. Great place to enjoy a calm evening out.

Google
Absolutely blown away by this ramen spot! The portion sizes were huge - more than enough to leave you full and happy. Every bowl was packed with rich, flavorful broth and perfectly cooked noodles that hit all the right notes. The real star, though, was the dumplings crispy, golden, and hands-down the best I’ve ever had. You can taste the care in every bite, and the flavors are just on another level. If you’re craving top-tier ramen and unforgettable

Google
AWESOME SPOT, flying under the radar in the Courthouse area with a relaxed atmosphere and delicious curry ramen and sushi. The fried dumplings are a must. Brought a hinge date and her little from UCF and it was a big hit

Google
We love this place, we usually get takeout but dine-in is great as well! Good fish and roll options, the pricing is fair and quality is always consistently great.

Google
We love the sushi here, very fresh and delicious. We go there once a week or order from them when we entertain friends at home. I love their atmosphere too, but sometimes it has to be booked in advance or you won't get a seat! Highly recommended for sure!

Google
What a jewel we stumbled upon today! The food was fresh and delicious. The atmosphere was warm and beautiful. But the service was absolutely top notch! We were celebrating a birthday and the chef and server made us all feel so special. I can’t wait to return.

Yelp
DoorDash Purchased spicy lunch special which comes with three rolls, when I ordered it, I assumed the fish inside would be spicy, but instead it's doused in a spicy mayo, which was both overwhelming to the fish and not particularly enjoyable. The rolls were incredibly inconsistent, missing chunks of rice, were each sized inconsistently, and overall looked poorly rolled. It tasted okay and the lunch special is a good deal, but not my favorite.

Yelp
Amazing sushi place tucked away near Courthouse! Curry ramen was new and a set option came with a hand roll. Sushi rolls were delicious too and everything came out quickly

Yelp
Takeshi is close enough to by office that I frequently go to there to reward myself. Their prices are reasonable (a ramen bowl is about $15) but most importantly their food is delicious. I don't get why this place is not jam packed every single say for lunch; maybe they get a lot of online orders. Their fish is fresh and the sushi is superb. Their staff is so nice! Do not miss going to this place.

Chris T.

Yelp
Outstanding sushi and sashimi - super fresh and beautifully plated and served. Wonderful staff who are attentive without hovering around you - very gracious people. Seems to be mainly a takeaway, but lovely comfortable dining room with nice ambiance as well. Definitely a "keeper" and a favorite!
google avatar

Harley S.

Yelp
We've gotten takout from Takeshi a couple of times. They do a good job with fresh, classic maki at reasonable prices, plus they have a lot of vegetarian options (for those in your crowd who don't want fish).

Yelp
Small but ornately decorated Japanese spot with a comprehensive menu of Japanese food I came here with my GF for dinner on a Friday night and we were the only ones here! Not a great sign, but we decided to give it a shot anyway The staff were all very friendly and attentive, but the food left something to be desired. My GF got a sushi roll and I got a udon noodle soup, and both looked great when they came out, but we were both underwhelmed with the quality. My soup had a ton of tempura in it, which of course was incredibly soggy by the time I tried it since it had been soaking in the soup

Yelp
The hubby, my sister-in-law and I came here for lunch on 12/27/2023. This is a small restaurant and when we arrived there was no one else there. The server quickly brought over some waters and I immediately ordered a California roll. The California roll came out in record time and was enjoyable. The hubby got a green salad and it was quite delicious with a flavorful sesame dressing. The salad was simple with lettuce, cucumbers and sesame seeds, it was nice and fresh. For our entrees, I got the tonkotsu ramen with pork, the hubby got the same thing, but the spicy version and my sister-in-law also got the spicy tonkotsu ramen, but with chicken. We got our orders, however, my sister-in-law's order was wrong and had pork in it, she just rolled with it though. The tonkotsu was delicious! The broth was flavorful, but it could have had a more deep, rich, porky flavor, but it was great nonetheless. There was a lot of pork in the ramen and yummy all around. Service could have been better, the server didn't refill our empty water cups until asked despite an empty restaurant. Overall, he wasn't very attentive. Additionally, the menu says the ramen comes with bean sprouts and my sister-in-law asked for extra and the server said none of the ramen came with bean sprouts; they should update their menus. Otherwise, highly recommend!

Yelp
TL;DR - 3/5. I wouldn't expect much from their sushi, but their appetizers seem to be great value. Food: 2/5 * Ordered a sushi set and hamachi kama * Hamachi kama was a bit on the drier side - The value is great however (It's $10 only.) * For the sushi set, the sushi rice wasn't properly treated (It's just rice.) * In terms of sake, their Dassai 45 300ml goes for $29. Not worth it. Service: 5/5 * Good service. Ambiance: 5/5 * It isn't a fancy sushi place, and as such I feel the vibe is fine.

Yelp
I have to say, that since returning several times since my initial review, my love for this place has only gotten stronger. I think this is the best sushi place in the Courthouse/Clarendon corridor: comparable to the awesome Tachibana in McLean. What I like most is the ease of ordering to-go food. They have a touch pad at the host stand and I don't think I have waited more than 15 minutes for an order to be prepared.

Yelp
Great food! Great service! Love how they plate everything!! Been there many times and every time is awesome! The food is super consistent and always delicious :)

Yelp
My partner and I are from the Bay Area and have been searching for a great budget sushi spot for the last two years since moving to DC. WE FOUND IT! We arrived at noon on a Saturday, and there were never more than a few tables full during our meal. The ambiance is cute and calm, the perfect spot for a date or a small hang with friends. We got our food after no more than 15min, and everything was delicious. The potato shrimp tempura was a great balance of crispy and chewy, and the salmon lover was exceptional. The rice was great, and the quantity of salmon for the price is unmatched. Can't say enough good things about our meal! This whole meal was $65 (including a 20% tip). Already planning our next trip!

Yelp
Great service, good vibes, very fresh food. Overall happily surprised by the mom and pop shop, with delicious rolls, personal service, and good prices. Overall, my new favorite sushi spot, hands down.

Yelp
Takeshi Sushi opened up in the old Subway spot, and they serve various appetizers, soups, salads, ramen, sushi and roll sets, sashimi, dons, and other platters. We came here for an early lunch, and we ordered: +a She is so Hot Roll - spicy tuna and cucumber, topped with salmon and jalapeno pepper on top, with a drop of sriracha; definitely for those who like spicy +a 007 Roll - with spicy crab and cucumber, topped with cooked shrimp and avocado +an America Roll - with shrimp tempura, cucumber, crab, cooked shrimp, and avocado; it didn't stat that there was any eel on here, but I was pleasantly surprised that there was some slices of unagi on the top +a Rainbow Roll +a Hamachi Kama - this grilled yellowtail collar was of great value, and I liked that they had split into 3 pieces for easier consumption; this was delicate and flakey, with a light drizzle of a teriyaki-like sauce; I wished this was smoked or was cooked a little longer, as there were some red/bloody parts; requesting more of a heavier teriyaki drizzle would have been great Overall, the makis were okay, and much better than what I had envisioned or expected for this Chinese-owned and -operated sushi spot. While service was welcoming and friendly, we did have to wait about 30 minutes or so to get our food, so definitely not a place to consider if you're in a rush. There's limited metered/paid parking around the area. +friendly staff +slow service +paid/metered parking in the area

Yelp
Great food and fantastic service! I loved the ramen here, the broth was really flavorful, and the sushi was good as well. The decor is really cute and the space is cozy inside.

Yelp
The food was great! The ramen with tofu was amazing. It had great flavor and textures. The staff are great and very helpful.

Peggy R.

Yelp
Very friendly service. We sat outside, so cannot comment on the ambiance inside. The fish was very fresh and of high quality. The shishimi was cut quite thick, which diminished the delicacy of the dish and fish. There was a mixup in our tempura platter. we ordered the shrimp and vegetable tempura, but were served only the shrimp. Disappointing, but other than being a bit greasy was delicious. The chicken kebobs were very tasty and had a delicious sauce. I ordered the ebi and kani nigiri, I would have liked it better had the sushi rice been not so sweet. However, the seafood was perfect. I also ordered the Pink Lady roll, which was beautiful and well executed, but again, the overly sweet rice diminished my enjoyment of the roll. all in all we enjoyed ourselves and our lovely server and will most likely return, as overall experience was positive. Their miso soup was delicious.

Yelp
Go to toryumon japanese house in arlington! The fish is fresher. The service is better. The restaurant is better. Every aspect of the experience is 1000 times better and the restaurants are maybe a quarter of a mile apart. I have never been so furious in my life. We have ordered from these guys many times. They screwed up the last 3 orders. The sushi is semi decent, but beyond that the owner, service, management, staff is unbelievably rude. Look at my reviews. I am not a "Karen" to restaurants. This is not some random person who is mad at everyone. This place sucks!

Tiffany N.

Yelp
Ordered takeout, but the quality is incredibly bad. Found 3 fish scales and even blood. The salmon pieces themselves are extremely fibrous. I will never go back. On the surface it looked good but they gave the crummiest parts of the fish. I've been in person before and it was at least ok then.

Yelp
This is a cozy little restaurant that you will most probably miss if you aren't looking for it. Food - Good. The sushi was good, and their chicken curry was delicious Service - Good Parking - They do not have their own specific parking space, but parking can be found nearby. Overall, this place is good.
google avatar

Bella J.

Yelp
They are a very obscure looking place, which is hard to find. Even after arrival the sign on the door points to a different door, which is for an Indian restaurant. 1. Reservation: not needed, so many empty tables 2. Food: 3.5 stars. It is simply okay. Nothing special. - Rolls: i did not like any of them. - Ramen: was okay, but extremely salty. Wondered if it was simmering for so long because they don't have too many customers. - Chicken curry was very similar to indian curry more so than Japanese. 3. Service: polite 4. Ambience: casual I don't think I will come back. But it is an option if you are in the area and need a quick bite.

Yelp
Service was great, waitress was attentive, but food was just decent. Overall, average. Cute little restaurant.

Yelp
There are so many sushi places in Arlington and I'm glad I went to this place. Pretty good sushi and even better presentation. It was so beautifully plated, I didn't want to touch it (but of course I scarfed it down coz it was delicious). I had the Roll Set deluxe combo and it came with 3 basic rolls and your choice of specialty roll. I chose the crazy roll and it was good - better than the tempura roll my friend got. I didn't like that there was no miso soup with the entree (which was $30). You would think that at that price you should at least get miso soup or maybe even a salad. That's why I knocked it down a star on the rating. Overall good place and if you're lucky like my friend and I, you'll get a street parking spot right in front of the restaurant.
google avatar

Alishia H.

Yelp
The first thing you notice when visiting a restaurant is the service and this one was 10/10! The sushi rolls and udon were exactly what I needed! Will visit and and recommend to all my flight crew friends visiting this area.
google avatar

Margo L.

Yelp
I've never written a review before but just had to because this place was so good and it deserves the hype. Food came quick, our server was so nice, and the food tasted amazing. A well-priced, homey spot, will 100% be returning again!

Yelp
I visited Takeshi on 12/28/24 at around 7 pm. The place is cute. There were only two other diners in the restaurant but I wasn't concerned. I ordered the curry ramen pork and if I had stopped with the ramen, this review would have been three stars. The ramen was good with a nice soft egg yoke. However, I ordered sushi and this is where Takeshi goes south. I ordered sweet shrimp, squid and flying fish roe a la carte. The sushi rice was disgusting. It was mushy, bland and had no taste at all. I was given regular shrimp instead of sweet shrimp. I asked the server if I received regular or sweet shrimp. She said it was sweet shrimp which was incorrect. The flying fish roe did not have the salty goodness I am used to instead there was no taste to it at all. The squid was just okay. I left most of the rice (see pic) but the server didn't inquire at all. As a server, If I saw that much rice left, I would have asked what the problem was but the server clearly didn't care. The sushi is simply terrible. Takeshi should take sushi off the menu and stick with ramen.
google avatar

Audrey O.

Yelp
Such a hidden gem. The decor has a wonderfully cute aesthetic to it without being too corny or cliche. The sushi however was the main highlight and such a great value-- especially the lunch special. I got the sushi deluxe entree and with it I got 4 massive rolls. The titanic roll was awesome, definitely a must try. If you are looking for a cute sushi lunch spot with a friend to catch up, this place should be your go to in the Clarendon courthouse area.
google avatar

Marcus H.

Yelp
Great service, nicely decorated, and really good sushi! Perfect for an pregame or food date spot before heading out for the night. We ordered the gyoza, spicy tuna, yellowtail hamachi and a special roll I can't remember. All of the food was delicious with great presentation. Will be back to try the ramen as it was highly recommended and I can't resist a good bowl.
google avatar

Shawn H.

Yelp
It's not authentic enough for me to place it into my "top sushi" list but I wasn't expecting Japanese chefs to prepare my food here- at the price and amount they offered, I was happy nonetheless. I had to pay for green tea- which is never ever something I do at a real Japanese sushi joint, but I came with lower expectations so it wasn't an issue. The rolls were good. We ordered sashimi for two and they were fresh but not a lot of variety. Their white tuna belly was the best of all- smooth, meaty, and scrumptious. Again, at the price point offered, it was reasonable. The decor is a bit odd but it was an awfully sunny hot day and we were just happy to have some A/C. They have plenty of outdoor seating. The bathrooms were okay- not gross, not super clean. Looks like a popular place for young'ns date night.
google avatar

Lizzie G.

Yelp
Ordered takeout on a Friday night. Truly the freshest sushi I've had outside of Japan. The salmon and tuna in the rainbow roll were succulent and flavorful. The veg were the perfect accompaniment. Looking forward to ordering from Takeshi again!
google avatar

Maria-Elena T.

Yelp
We got the sushi and sashimi set w/salmon roll plus 4 eel. As always, everything was fresh!!!
google avatar

Stacy C.

Yelp
Let me start by saying the service was very good. The woman who waited on my table was very kind and efficient. Unfortunately, that's where the good ends. I just ordered sushi, and it was so bad. I left half of it on my plate. The ikura was dried up and off tasting. The rice on everything was seasoned so heavily that everything tasted off. Also, there was way too much rice with every piece. Lastly, I'm pretty sure that the "yellowtail" was actually "white tuna" which is certainly not what I ordered. I was in a rush so I did not send anything back. I'm betting that they would have made it right if I had. Instead, with limited time, I paid my bill. I won't be back.
google avatar

Peter L.

Yelp
Cozy little Japanese restaurant with sushi and Raman. We only had sushi so can't speak for the Raman. We are in the restaurant which is nicely decorated and very pleasant with the calming, spa like music playing the whole time. The service was very professional and attentive. We had the salmon lovers sushi and the sashimi appetizer. Bother we're excellent. Coming from New York I'd say it would hold its own reasonably well. Fish tasted fresh and portions were good. Really enjoyed the salmon lovers, though would like to see a little more variety in the preparations. Visually there is a lot of variety, but not as much flavor wise (maybe include spicy salmon?). Regardless though I did enjoy it and do recommend both dishes.
google avatar

Kim J.

Yelp
Takeshi is so good. It's always so fresh and ready quickly. The service is great and people are really nice. I highly recommend
google avatar

Latoya J.

Yelp
I thoroughly enjoyed this cozy spot. The sushi was fresh and delicious. I also tried the ramen. It was my first time having ramen from a restaurant and I found it to be flavorful and hearty. I barely finished it all. The service was really fast and efficient. I would and will definitely be going back when I'm in the Arlington area!
google avatar

Richard L.

Yelp
Go to place for classic Japanese nigiri and sashimi in the Northern Virginia area. Takeshi is a small shop that probably can't seat more than 35/40 people max at once but what they lack in space, they more than make up for in quality of fish. Been here a few times and everytime the fish comes out fresh and delicious. The only thing I will say is sometimes delivery or takeout can be a bit slow especially if most people are ordering from the sushi bar vs cooked entrees/appetizer so plan accordingly. That being said, will still continue coming here for the delicious fish.
google avatar

Cynthia M.

Yelp
Not changing my rating because I still think this is a go-to neighborhood sushi spot for me and I still stand by their chirashi and sushi quality but I will say the past 2 times for both takeout and dine in, it has definitely taken some time for them to get the orders ready. While dining in, there were also a few take out order pickups who seemed like they had to wait a bit. So just want to give those in a rush a warning on timing.
google avatar

Ailun H.

Yelp
I'm honestly surprised that there is a good sushi spot in Arlington. The fish quality is pretty impressive for the price point! I got the "Salmon Lover" Sushi Set, which was $20 and really worth. It comes with 3 pieces of salmon nigiri, 3 pieces of sashimi, 1 spicy salmon hand roll, and 1 regular salmon roll (6 pieces). This was a good amount of food for me that left me at a satisfactory level of full. The salmon sashimi was quite fresh, tasty and super fatty. It was great. The rice was also very tasty with a good amount of vinegar. Honestly, I had no complaints about this sushi set. I'd definitely recommend this to anyone who loves salmon more than any other fish. Overall, pleasantly surprised that this place had some quality sushi. I will definitely be back again to try their other sushi sets and roll sets!
google avatar

Kat T.

Yelp
This place was amazing! I loved everything I had. We got edamame and a green salad with sesame dressing for appetizers. 10 out 10. I was worried about the sesame dressing but it was so good. We shared a sushi for 2. The nigiri was so good. Everything tasted fresh and delicious. We had 2 rolls (I can't remember what they were) but they were delicious as well. Service was great. We did go right when they opened for dinner (4:30) so they weren't super busy. I loved the decorations and the ambiance. So cute and just a great experience.
google avatar

Betsy S.

Yelp
This was some of the best sushi and ramen we've had! We ordered a little bit of everything and it was so filling. We came for the sushi but once we saw ramen on the menu we had to order. It was a dark and stormy day and that would hit the spot! The decor is lovely! Flowers and even this tiny chopstick holder! Service was so kind. She was attentive and offered recommendations. I already have plans to go back.
google avatar

Lily B.

Yelp
I don't know if it's the recent cold weather we've had but I'm on a serious ramen noodle eating cycle. I have ordered via delivery service the Tonkotsu Pork several times and recently the chicken. The broths are so rich and delicious. This is exactly what you would want to eat when you are under the weather or it is cold. My favorite broth is the pork. But the meat on the chicken is outstanding. as far as delivery everything came beautifully packaged and hot. Also the portions are generous and I have not finished it all in one sitting yet. The chicken meat was far more tender than I expected which was a great surprise. You can order this to be delivered and be very pleased with the result. I want to try more given how satisfied I am with what I've eaten from here.
google avatar

Teri A.

Yelp
Good Food. Great service. Lots of mosquito bites due to dining outside. The restaurant was too cold inside. The sushi rolls were tasty and bite sized. Which helps when popping them in our mouths. Take a look at some photos I took!!
google avatar

David A.

Yelp
I had the chef's choice of sashimi and loved it! The bowl was full of fresh sushi and included waygu beef, toro, uni, and oyster among other higher end choices. The bowl was very delish and very reasonable priced!
google avatar

Wizard E.

Yelp
A little slice of Japan right here in Virginia. Sushi and Sashimi was fresh and tasty. Takoyaki (Octopus Balls) was hot and authentic as it gets. Definitely coming back for more!
google avatar

Angela C.

Yelp
I've walked by Takeshi too many times not to try it, and I'm glad I did! It's a small resturant with a cute interior and a couple outdoor tables. It was a rainy day so we ordered the ramen + hand roll special for $20 which was a great deal. The veggie ramen had a great broth flavor and the noodles were high quality. I liked the vegetable toppings but wish there was more vegetable variety and/or an egg. The Tonkotsu ramen was delicious but had a strong onion/garlic flavor that lingered. Loved the salmon hand rolls! I'd definitely go back to explore more of the sushi menu.
google avatar

Melissa F.

Yelp
Cozy neighborhood spot i tried for the first time. I called for pick up and waited a bit longer than anticipated but the staff was super friendly and offered me a place to sit. Food was delicious & true to description - would definitely come back!
google avatar

KC C.

Yelp
Came back to this place when I was in town and really enjoy the ramen (and dumplings) and ambiance. Fortunate to be there when they aren't too busy, so I'm a little spoiled. Priced reasonably, so plan on coming back.
google avatar

Katie L.

Yelp
A pretty decent sushi place if you really really have a sushi craving and must satisfy it. I got a chirashi bowl to try all the fish and, again, decent. Not amazing , but not horrible. The portions are pretty decently sized and the price was pricey but it's Arlington so I don't expect to pay anything less than an arm and a leg. My only red flag was the decor. It's pretty and fun to look at, but for someone with a bad dust allergy, my eyes were done for. My poor friend watched me leak tears for a good part of our meal.

Zoe K.

Yelp
Sushi was super high quality and reasonably priced. Ambiance was very intimate and quiet. The service was also very attentive!
google avatar

Rachel S.

Yelp
a cute hole in the wall spot that has wonderful food and wonderful service! very sweet staff and great quality ingredients! the green salad and spicy salmon roll were absolutely outstanding!!!!
