The 14 Most Iconic Dishes In Houston - Houston - The Infatuation

"Mama Ninfa, the original owner and restaurant’s namesake, is credited as the inventor of the fajita. While the fact-check is still out on that, the sizzling strips of steak here are undeniably excellent. Order extra flour tortillas so you don’t have to compromise a single bite." - gianni greene, chelsea thomas, julie takahashi

Takiza Taco & Tequila Bar - Arvada

Google
Absolutely loved the atmosphere here! The place has a great energy inside, while the outside area is always buzzing with people, which adds to the charm. The food tastes genuinely authentic and full of flavor, and the drinks are amazing. The margaritas are creative with unique flavor options, and what really stands out is that everything is made with fresh ingredients instead of those artificial mixes. A fantastic spot all around!

Google
I’m overdue for posting a review of this place. The photos below are from a few times we've visited, and I have to say this is a fantastic addition to West Arvada. They have a great happy hour, and their Taco Tuesdays are amazing if you love tacos! (All tacos $3.99) They have a wide variety of different styles of margaritas although I still personally prefer the coin, I also had their version of an old fashioned with tequila although the name escapes me at the moment it was delicious and pictured below. Their fish taco is one of my favorites along with their shrimp taco along with their asada taco, they're all really good! The patio is dog-friendly, which is a huge plus for dog lovers, and the interior is beautiful as well. I really hope this location thrives! The service is outstanding, and the staff is incredibly friendly. I can’t express enough good things about this place. And while all the staff has been excellent, shout out to Frida took care of us tonight! I haven’t been there for brunch yet, but I plan to do that soon! West Arvada, and surrounding areas, make this place thrive because I want it to be around for a while!

Google
The cutest restaurant! Excellent elote and queso. Fish taco and birria tacos were fantastic. Very fresh and flavorful. Extensive drink menu. Margaritas were excellent as well. Highly recommend!

Google
Some of the best Mexican street food /truck food! The nachos in the jug was cool too

Google
Takiza is a hidden gem in Arvada. The food is amazing and inventive! Kudos to the chef. The margs are wildly creative. I had the lavender marg, lined with black salt and real lavender and a dried orange slice.10/10. The atmosphere is relaxed but trendy, with stylish black walls and graphics. We ordered the Takiza nachos which came out in a huge tin can. I was a little confused at first until our server removed the can to reveal a beautiful plate of pulled pork nachos. Definitely going back.

Google
Cool vibe inside, outside gets a lot of the traffic (to be expected). The food is authentic and tasty, and the drinks are delicious. The margaritas are fun and use different flavors, but even better is that it’s all made with fresh ingredients (not all gross syrups)

Google
This establishment is relatively new, however, it is a notable improvement over its predecessor, Illegal Burger. The atmosphere is more refined and upscale, and the service is impeccable. My server, Sebastian, and his team, Frida, Manuel, and Mitzi, were attentive and knowledgeable. The chef, Diego, is a culinary master whose dishes are truly exceptional. In addition, I feel it's only right. to let you know that I have come here numerous times .. conclusion, I have never ever had such an amazing delicious Chili Relleno Taco in my entire life. 😋

Google
I visited Tuesday for their $4 toco deal. I ordered an asada, al pastor, barbacoa, and chorizo toco. Only barbacoa I didn't like. The asada toco was the best and the only one I will be having in future visits.

Yelp
I love this place and I'm not sure why it doesn't have a better Yelp score. My family comes here about once a week and it's so nice to have a Mexican restaurant that's not basic or a chain in this area. Restaurants in West Arvada are slim picking, but this place...I would be happy to visit even in a more metro area with tons of options. The food is really fresh and flavorful and the flavors are a little more adventurous than you would find at your standard taco place. So glad it's in the neighborhood! Definitely give it a try if you haven't, especially taco Tuesday during happy hour. Yea the service has been slow a few times; I think it's because they don't get enough visitors at times to have a bustling staff. People, try this place out, you won't regret it! Yes, it's a little more expensive than other taco joints - go on taco Tuesday - $3.99 tacos all day.

Yelp
There is so much to like about Takiza. Love the minimal decor, thoughtful and with touches of live plants at each table. There are lots of seating options, along with open air patio tables. Our bartender was great although he likely needs some support as he wasn't able to check in on us as much as we would have liked. We waited for quite some time during courses and to cash out. Not the end of the world but room to improve. We only ordered margaritas - a flight, a house and the coin. All were very sweet except the coin. A little more balance could go a long way. We enjoyed the choriqueso, two tacos and the green chili enchiladas. My partner made a comment that summed things up well for our visit: It feels like they're trying too hard. Maybe. The chiroqueao was overly salted and the green chili chicken was overly spiced - so much so that we took two of the three home. There's something to be said for well balanced meals, flavors and cocktails. Takiza missed the mark for us. Easy edits though. This wouldn't be an everyday option for us, price wise. This meal was right at $100. Maybe we'll return.

Yelp
Great food tucked away in a strip mall connected to the King Supers parking lot. Unassuming location, but the food is well above average. We came with a party of six and they didn't disappoint. You would think standard service, but they treated you more like a fine dining establishment. Awesome guest service, super attentive staff, crafts of water left on the table and the food presentation was excellent! Hat off to the kitchen for presentation. Overall, it was a very good dining experience. Definitely recommend over many of the blander Mexican restaurants in the area.

Yelp
Cool spot in a large corner shopping center. A little of everything! Try and share a few tacos, and there are lots of margarita choices. We had a group of four and everyone crushed their dishes. I am not sure how new the restaurant it, but they seemed to staffed appropriately and the service was still on the slower side of what I would expect (especially when we are primed to order more margs)!
google avatar

Stefanie C.

Yelp
The tacos and margaritas at Takiza are fantastic! I finally got to sit at the bar inside, which was swanky as anticipated. The outdoor patio is still a great spot to chill. And of course I appreciate the plentiful parking in this strip mall. I like how extensive the menu is. Everything I've gotten has been delicious, and I saw they opened up a new location in LoDo. Definitely coming back, especially for Taco Tuesday.

Yelp
Best tacos in the area! Cute space, friendly staff. The mole and al pastor are exceptional. Free WiF and parking! Definitely will be back
google avatar

Ashley C.

Yelp
Patio is 9/10 perfect shade! Inside bar is super cute as well and perfect for a snowy day. If it's sunny out definitely recommend the outside patio. I'm a queso connoisseur and was not impressed with their queso here. It had a hint of tomato and seemed like it should be a sauce at an Italian restaurant. The chicken burrito smothered with green chili is filled with flavor!! Our server was over attentive and almost seemed like he was pushing us out even though there was no wait. Never tried to upsell us on drinks even though we sat at the table for over an hour. I would go back again if in the area but wouldn't make a special trip.
google avatar

Yelp
Solid Mexican food with excellent carne asada and fresh ingredients. Like most restaurants these days, the prices are just crazy for the portion size. Value is 3 stars. Service is good though but be prepared to spend some $ especially with a family.
google avatar

LARENA M.

Yelp
Went for the first time today to this new gem! It's taco Tuesday and all tacos are 3.99- excellent authentic quality! Very nice classy atmosphere too! Will definitely go back, soooooo delicious!!
google avatar

Yelp
Came in for a late lunch today; had a Barbacoa taco and a El Pastor taco (they were middle of the road) and the guac. All the food tasted fresh and the ambiance was nice but nothing special. The reason for the two stars was pure value. The guac was raw avacado in a oversize mortal and pestal with all the other ingredients dropped in the bowl - you mix it yourself (I've see table side but not make the customer mash and mix), oh and it was $17 dollars. for two small street taco's and chips & guac (no drink, nothing else), my bill was $32 pre-tip. I won't be back. It's too expensive for what you get and the value just isn't there for me. I would value the meal at less than half that price.
google avatar

Mike B.

Yelp
Food was great and inventive, service was fantastic and fun at the bar and, nice vibe. Came as a great surprise! We don't say this lightly...
google avatar

Jorgi R.

Yelp
Yum yum yum! Came in on a Monday for lunch. Was my first time here since it used to be a burger place. What a great experience. My food was awesome and the offer margarita Monday! 5 buck yummy margs. Service was impeccable. Very clean and good parking. Love the vibe here too. Will def be back!

Steffani W.

Yelp
THE BEST MEXICAN RESTAURANT IN THE AREA!!! Amazing tacos. As a Southern CA native, I'm very picky about my tacos and this is the place that never disappoints! Taco Tuesdays they have $3.99 tacos all day for dine-in. I look forward to it every week! Great food, great service, great price

K G.

Yelp
I absolutely love their mole enchiladas and margaritas. Everything is fresh and delicious. Don't be deterred by the strip mall feel! (First rating I've ever done - just because I love it so much!)
google avatar

Holly C.

Yelp
Trash nachos = deliciousness. Must get. The beef fajitas were plentiful. Lots of steak and veggies. I had enough food for 3 meals. Really friendly service. We got takeout so we didn't dine in. But the restaurant looked really nice. They took over Illegal Burger on 64th Avenue and did a really good job renovating the place.
google avatar

A S.

Yelp
Meh. Went here for the first time for a late lunch. There were only 3 other tables at the time and service was MIA. Drinks are overpriced for what they are as was food. My side of guacamole for my fajitas had an oxidized brown layer and rice may as well been a bowl of salt. Veggie fajitas came out lukewarm, not sizzling as one would expect for fajitas. Better Mexican food is available elsewhere in Arvada.

Kristine A.

Yelp
Margaritas were phenomenal and I stay coming back for their tacos. I'm always looking for good street style tacos and I love that they don't put lettuce on any because that's not a real taco then! Service is always so kind and punctual. Love the decor and the layout of the restaurant as well.

Yelp
Food is delicious, drinks are good, service is excellent! Spent a Sunday afternoon here and couldn't be more satisfied. It's refreshing to visit a restaurant in Denver metro where the staff genuinely seems to care about your experience. If I HAD to critique something, the drinks are a bit on the sweet side (but let's be honest, Sebastian is sweet enough all by himself ) but that is personal preference, not objective truth. Definitely worth a visit and I will absolutely be back. Pic of margarita flight...does not disappoint!

Yelp
On May 12th my husband texted me from an awesome taco bar near where he was staying in Denver (Takiza). He sent pics and was excited by the find . So on September 15th we found ourselves back in Denver and he couldn't wait to get to this place! We ordered margaritas (good) and chile con queso which was cold and weird texture. Next came the chile rellenos taco ( repeat from May) and Carnitas taco. He took one of the two bites of rellenos and said this is cold and awful. It appeared 1/3 the size as his first visit so it didn't t take much to eat it. Then a bite of the carnitas and he stopped eating. Tasted like a bucket of salt was poured on it. All our tacos were stone cold. Tortilla felt like it came out of frig! Told Our lovely and professional waiter Miquel - he said I will get the manager! She came and immediately started unprofessionally yelling at us that why didn't you tell the waiter? And you ate the taco? we stopped her and told her we started eating it and then decided we should let them know after everything was bad and she didnt take notice the second taco was open and not eaten only picked at. She basically just went off on us and said I will have it remade. She was so rude and obviously very poorly trained in managerial skills , We just wanted to get out of there! Miguel returned and asked if the manager helped us. He was embarrassed by the outcome! She didnt even communicate to him what happened. Overall tortillas and meat cold and salty. I guess it was a one hit wonder! will not be back again!!!! I have been in the restaurant business and was appalled at her customer service (NONE!) Overall salty/cold and meh!!! Too many awesome taco bars to go to in the area to eat here again!!!!
google avatar

Tricia T.

Yelp
Delicious flavors come together with the calabesa and the veggie queso tacos! Excellent and friendly service! we had to stop as we've heard of the tacos! We will be back!
google avatar

Keith N.

Yelp
Been here 2x now- food is legit. The birria tacos are absolutely delicious and the homemade consommé is amazing- I lapped the remainder up with a spoon. Margaritas are great too.
google avatar

Marcella P.

Yelp
I love a new food spot, with that being said I'm glad this one popped up behind my job. The food, service and vibe is on point. Their take on margaritas had me sold, they have different flavors and the ones I have tried have been extremely good. I'm excited for their margarita Mondays. As for the food, where to start I went with a coworker on my lunch break, which was risky being a new spot on a time crunch. But worth the risk. They had us seated immediately with water, our food ordered and we were served within 15 minutes. Everything was remarkable, I can't complain about anything it was all amazing. Everything was so good I brought two more coworkers to try it out some chicharonnes and margaritas after work and they loved loved loved it! Best part was I received a churro donut for my birthday. This place is amazing. I will be back again, and again and again.
google avatar

Amanda B.

Yelp
These are our favorites margaritas in Arvada. They are yummy and fresh- no mix. I love the ceviche so much I haven't tried anything else on the menu.

Rick U.

Yelp
1 and done. Waited an hour for a couple tacos and the manager was rude when I simply said I was disappointed. No thanks!
google avatar

Jennifer F.

Yelp
I've been here a few times and it's always delicious with decent service by friendly staff. I dine out vegetarian/pescatarian; the fish street tacos at Takiza's are the best I've had anywhere. The secret is in the agave glaze and the chipotle sauce - just wow. Everyone I take here agrees it's the best fish taco. (The one vegetarian street taco - made with squash and corn - is good but not mind blowing.) The guacamole starter that diners assemble for themselves at their table is outstanding (and fun). Another starter - the four salsas with perfectly salted and crispy corn chips - is delicious. I like the margaritas - have only sampled two - but mine arrived in narrow glasses with lots of ice. For the price (I think around $15), it was a few sips before disappointment set in. My family plans to eat here frequently. It's the first GOOD restaurant to hit this part of West Arvada, and we need more like it.

Eileen M.

Yelp
We frequent this great local restaurant often. We have never had anything but amazing food, drinks (love their mezcal pineapple margarita and queso asado tacos), and service. Unfortunately, we are giving them a low review bc EVERY time we go in, the music is SO LOUD, we can't have a normal conversation. We've asked to have it turned down and are told they cannot. It's NOT a pleasant dining experience.

Suzanne H.

Yelp
My mom and I go here after her dr. Appts. We love the food, but the people are what keep us coming back. They are great with recommendations, and super friendly and up beat! Loved their mole enchiladas, but the trash can nachos are also a fav. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Rhonda O.

Yelp
This place is sooo good. Margs, best ever guacamole, street tacos rock. Our new favorite go-to in Arvada

Maureen S.

Yelp
Service was awesome, but the carnitas are amazing!!! This is a great neighborhood joint.

Mckenzie K.

Yelp
The carnitas tacos and house marg were amazing! The staff were kind and very attentive. A great spot! Highly recommend!

Rick P.

Yelp
I eat a lot of tacos in my travels. These are well above average. I prefer a little grittier ambience but hard to complain about a place being too nice.
google avatar

Nicholas S.

Yelp
this is our new taco joint on the eastern slope! hospitality and tequila in moderation.

David P.

Yelp
Ambiance is warm, with a large bar through the middle of the restaurant. I sat at the bar, and was lucky enough to have a Nuggets game on the tv. I will tell you this was my second visit. I ordered three tacos, as that was what my bartender recommended. I got one shrimp taco, one el pastor taco, and one carne asada taco. My favorite was the shrimp taco, but the portion is a bit small, as they are "street tacos". I would then say I liked the carne asada taco too, but the beef was a bit dry. I then had the chicken mole taco; my least favorite. The chicken was very dry and the mole sauce was too sweet with a hot finish. I had a beer, not much to say there, but a little pricey.
google avatar

Christine M.

Yelp
The food was pretty authentic and really good. The service exceptional and friendly. The menu is small but the offerings would appease most appetites. A little pricey even during happy hour.

Kiley V.

Yelp
Super friendly staff! Had the nachos and ate entirely too many because I couldn't stop! The meat was so juicy and tender, the chipotle sauce was so so delicious! Margaritas strong and yummy! Cannot wait to come back here!

Bill G.

Yelp
First time ordering from this restaurant. Website forced a 20% tip for a pickup. Arrived exactly at the pickup time chosen during the order process. My order was not tagged correctly and the employee had to go through other people's orders opening their containers to find my order. I arrived home 10 minutes after picking my order. Food was cold. No hot sauce included. Mediocre Tacos at best and a 20% tip for someone that couldn't even do their job. First and last time customer. This place is a joke.
google avatar

Murdock G.

Yelp
Ordered two dishes for pickup plus horchata. A bit disorganized. Front person thought order not ready but somebody else recognized order sitting there but took 10 min. Had to remind them about horchata. They forgot tortillas for fajitas!. Mole chicken enchiladas ok but a bit too spicy. No rice included. Fajitas flavorful but pastor a little dry. Lots of onions. Try again? Maybe.
google avatar

Luke V.

Yelp
Awesome Tacos! Fast and friendly service. Great cocktails. Can't beat it for authentic Mexican food.

Luke F.

Yelp
Food was good. Service was very poor. Prices are ridiculous. Served drinks in dirty glasses. AC cranked inside; had to sit outside in wind to be comfortable with temperature. Told by previous customers that there were Gluten Free options; wrong. Only 1. Wife became sick with only option allegedly GF. Won't be returning to this restaurant.

Debra B.

Yelp
Tried to enjoy lunch here with my sister on a Thursday at 1 pm, 2 employees were working the front of the house, 5 tables of guests, and 5 un bussed tables. We were waiting at the front for several minutes while the person behind the bar completely ignored us, the vibe was as black as the walls. After we were seated by another server who didn't greet us, smile, or offer us any drinks, we waited for 15 minutes to order while both of the servers bussed the dirty tables and didn't acknowledge us. The menu looked decent, a bit pricey, but that's to be expected in smaller neighborhood restaurants. Finally, we got up and left hungry and frustrated.
google avatar

Molly R.

Yelp
Honestly this place is sooooo good. I got the bowl, birria tacos and a queso asada taco and it was soooo good I'm so impressed. This place is authentic and they have great drinks!!! Must try. I'd say best food in the area

Angelina S.

Yelp
Ordered take out from here, first time! The taste of the food was amazing! We ordered steak fajitas with four tortillas, however never got tortillas for the fajitas. Also ordered the Birria tacos and street corn. The birrias tacos were decent, nothing special and it was missing the consommé, shame. Street corn was good! Could use more spice. Would probably be better to dine in as they wouldn't be forgetting anything.

Melissa B.

Yelp
We were so excited to try this place and it was such a disappointment. It took 10 min to even be greeted. Then another 10 to get drinks. Then 20 to get chips and salsa. We asked very specific questions about what we were ordering and the waiter was completely incorrect about ingredients. Food finally came and was not what we specified. The place was busy but we saw many tables walk out due to no service. Just a really terrible experience. We will not be back

Janae B.

Yelp
AMAZING street tacos!!! I'm obsessed with almost all their tacos. Barbacoa, fish, shrimp, chorizo, burria and al pastor are the top ones for me and seem to be the same for others who I've taken here. The service is great except a bit slower when they get really busy on Fri/Sat evening (reasonably so), so I try to come when it's slower (earlier dinner time or lunch). I also loveeee their street corn. It's all a little pricey but worth it! I've been here sooo many times and will continue to come back, I'm obsessed!

Frank B.

Yelp
I'm all about supporting small businesses. However, the experience we had earlier this evening was just too bad to find anything good to say. The waiter we had took 15 minutes to help us and then blamed the 15yr old host that it was his fault. Not to mention that he kept giving the same excuse to other tables around us too. The food was okay and the drinks were so so. To be honest, the best part of our experience were the two hosts who were super nice and the red salsa. Other than that, the owner seemed oblivious of the hot mess that was going on and the rest of the staff seemed disorganized. Definitely not going back.

Sarah J.

Yelp
Wonderful fresh food. Thought I would miss the burgers but this is great food. Everything has been upgraded and the service ..professional

Will B.

Yelp
My wife and I were looking for a breakfast burrito. I missed the turn for where we were thinking of going in Golden, so we continued up 93 and turned on 64th. My wife Googled 'Mexican food near me' and to our good fortune we saw Takiza and decided to give it a try. WOW!!! Everything was excellent! Our server Sebastian was very friendly and helpful and the margaritas were fantastic!!! We each ordered a breakfast burrito and enjoyed our drink. When Sebastian brought out the food the burritos were huge! Not only were they big, it was one of the best breakfast burritos I've had in a long time. I had the chorizo breakfast burrito and it was amazing. I also have to mention the presentation, from the margaritas to the food, everything was as beautiful to look at as it was delicious to eat. I can't wait to go back and try all the tacos!!!! Great place! I'm really glad I missed that turn in Golden.
