Fast-Growing Colada Shop Brings Mojitos and Cuban Dishes to Dupont | Eater DC

"Rushing toward reopening this week at Penrose Square (2501 9th Road S, Arlington) after supply chain issues and permitting delays, Takohachi—whose Westmont Shopping Center location closed in July due to redevelopment—was opened four years ago by owner and chef Tsutomu Nakano, who also opened a Centreville location at 14215 Centreville Square, Unit S while waiting to reopen in Arlington." - Stephanie Carter

Been coming here for 5 years and have always had a very pleasant experience. Food is delicious and staff is wonderful. Their new happy hour is a fantastic deal and we will be coming back even more now! Give the Udom combos a try, enough for two meals. Validated easy parking is also a major bonus in this are.

Google
This is a great place! Beyond sushi/sashimi, there’s a variety of Japanese dishes. Grilled baby barracuda is delicious. Friendly service. Down to earth/low key.

Google
AMAZING! The sushi is made fresh to order and everyone is always very, very nice. the ‘crunchy spicy shrimp roll’ is THE. BEST. SUSHI. I have ever had. it is amazing. If I could eat this roll everyday for the rest of my life, I would. Please come here, it is amazing!!

Alexandra C.

Google
They have good quality food at very reasonable prices. The service is also great and the staff are always so friendly. In addition, they validate parking in the garage next door which is very convenient. This is my go-to spot when I’m craving Japanese food!

Google
We found this place right before we moved out west in early 2023. We just returned to the area 2 months ago and I’m happy to see it’s still here. Food is very good and you can’t beat the price. $5 draft Kirin, Sapporo, and Asahi???? Yes please! I ordered the Philly Roll and the Spicy Miso ramen minus the corn and egg, then added spinach. It was fantastic. They also validate parking in the garage immediately behind.

Google
Easy on-line ordering and pick-up. Friendly owner and staff. Feels like my neighborhood sushi place. Love the grilled mackerel and yellowtail jaw appetizers. Everything we order is fresh and delicious. Highly recommend!

Google
While this isn't the best sushi in the DMV, it's still decent. The restaurant is also very peaceful, so it's a great place to take a date. The menu also has plenty of options for people who are not a fan of sushi.

Google
Japanese owned and operated, authentic Japanese street food, best donkatsu and tempura I've had in the DC-area. Solid udon and sushi. I will be back to try their ramen and other menu items. Great prices, service, and atmosphere. Also they validate parking, so parking easy in the underground garage.

Jonni R.

Yelp
I LOVE THIS PLACE!!! I've been coming here for lunch at work and I don't think I'll be going anywhere else for a while. Not only is the price fair, the food's genuinely so good!! I've been missing actually good, authentic Japanese food since I visited Japan a year ago, and Takohachi fills the spot. I've ordered several different dishes, Temaki, sushi, tempura, bento boxes and their Japanese curry, I haven't been disappointed yet. The service is fast, and the workers are very polite. Please support this restaurant, it's a hidden gem :)

Yelp
We came here on a recent Saturday afternoon. FYI, there is a parking garage in back of the restaurant and parking is free on the weekend. At other times, Takohachi will validate your parking. We were the only customers. We liked that the front side of the restaurant is all windows, so with sunshine streaming in, the restaurant had a warm and cheery feel. We were a little overwhelmed when were given like four different menus. We started out with the pork belly appetizer, which was probably our best dish of the afternoon. We also ordered the spider roll. Takohachi's spider roll comes with soft-shell crab, avocado, crab and fish roe. It was pretty good though the roll slices seemed fragile and started to fall apart. We ordered some kind of tonkatsu "bento box". It came with an excellent chicken katsu (loved the crunchy breading), udon, rice and a simple salad. This entrée also came with these interesting rice "balls" that were rice with a toasted slightly sweet exterior. I also ordered a toasted rice ball. It's what you think a toasted rice ball would be, white rice in ball that's been toasted. No additional ingredients or flavorings. JP ordered a grilled whole sardine, which he liked. Service was friendly and attentive. We'll be back.

Yelp
My husband and I have been visiting Takohachi for the past couple of years, and it's a consistently lovely and relaxing spot to enjoy genuinely satisfying Japanese food. While we often choose the ramen, which is always excellent, I recently had the bento set again--one of my favorites on the menu that offers great variety. The service is always dependable and superb. There is a kind gentleman who usually serves us and makes the dining experience pleasant and attentive every time.

Yelp
To start the service is amazing. They are so kind and welcoming. The environment is so cute, it's lower lighting but still can see things very well. And the food is absolutely amazing, priced great and tastes great too. It's right below an apartment building and parking tickets are validated. Absolutely love this place. And to add really quick food service.

Yelp
My husband and I were impressed with the amazing food! This place is what you'd expect from an izakaya, minus the yakitori: a great selection of beer and food at a fair and affordable price! We went for lunch on a Sunday but it was pretty empty, so service was quick and the staff was friendly. It was nothing fancy, but the furniture was old (table and high chair were sticky), although I did appreciate some of the decor hanging on the walls. We've already decided we'd come back! They also validate for free parking in the garage.

Yelp
Cheap sushi!! It won't be the most mind blowing sushi but if you're looking to satisfy a craving, this is the place to go. Sushi is $1.50 a piece and you fill out a paper menu of what sushi you want and how many pieces! You can also pick from their menu and predetermined sets. The people who work here are extremely nice and the place is decorated quite homey. This is a great cheap place for japanese food.

Yelp
Micro Delivery Review - ordered food through Uber Eats. The packaging was fine on the outside. I really enjoyed the sushi and I liked that it came with a good portion of wasabi, but I will say I was disappointed that my tempura sauce had leaked before I even had the chance to use it, it had soaked into the vegetables, unsure if this was the restaurant or Uber eats fault. I did want to leave this review though because I actually enjoyed the food and I enjoyed the price for the fish to rice rice ratio.

Cori A.

Yelp
Been looking for a Japanese-owned Japanese restaurant serving authentic Japanese street food and so happy I found Takohachi! Best tempura and tonkatsu I've had in the DC area. The menus reminded me of the ones in Japan, the udon authentic, and the sushi fresh. Perfect portions, great service, and prices are beyond reasonable. I am glad I found this place. I will be back!

Yelp
I've come here twice and at most currently it's about average for me, nothing bad and considering the price I paid for a whole meal and some change to take away for under $30 (which now a days feels like a steal)! There are multiple menus but I went for nigiri pieces, their small curry udon special, and croquettes. With the curry udon special it came with udon, curry, and a salad. The food was average - but I will say for the price getting sushi pieces for $1.50 is honestly unbeatable. I do love how cute the menus are with their drawings! If their food quality increases this spot will definitely end up more popular :) Service is good- every time I've come here it's always been pretty casual, quiet, and not busy at all! They did upgrade their interior recently to a new design but still feels like a pretty hole in the wall, mom/pop shop at times.

Yelp
Our waitress was awesome, and I really appreciate her recommendations. Our food was very good-- especially the meat wrapped scallions. I would not say this is the best restaurant on my vacation, but it was a good experience and I would go back and try other dishes. That's definitely a win.

Yelp
I was having serious withdrawals from eating delicious Japanese food often in Hawaii and needed a fix. Takohachi has been on my radar for ages so figured I'd try an order to go of the Shrimp and Vegetable Tempura dish with udon noodles. It was very good, not the best I've had, but hit the spot. Service was so nice when I arrived, she actually asked me how my day was going so far with a kind smile. I was so thrown off because customer service these days are usually so cold and automated, I felt sad that it was a weekday and the restaurant was totally empty. The ambiance is really cute and cozy and it's unexpectedly very large inside. Next time I look forward to trying the Japanese curry rice dish!
google avatar

Yelp
I've been meaning to try Takohachi for ages because of their $1 nigiri deal and even thought it's been raised to $1.50 (understandable due to inflation), the sushi's quality still exceeds the price. For the most part, we got reasonably portioned fresh fish that tasted amazing with well-seasoned rice. I appreciated that the menu even included options, such as salmon belly and yellowtail belly, that I don't often see at other places. The only one I would not recommend is their uni. Although uni is one of my all-time favorite foods, theirs tastes like bad seawater and is a testament to receiving high caliber ingredients for an extremely low price. I will definitely be back though and am looking forward to try more of their numerous items, such as their mackerel and masago.

Yelp
One of the only true Japanese-owned businesses in the area. I initially came here years ago for their $1 nigiri and would order a storm. After the pandemic, those days are long gone as the business was struggling and had to up the price (understandable because you don't want them to close down). While the nigiri is smaller and cost more, it's still a good deal compared to DC prices. Not only that, they also serve authentic udon, curry, karaage, and many more Japanese comfort food. I know the word authentic is overused, but it's valid here since the owner is Japanese! This place has been struggling as of late so I hope folks will give Takohachi a chance so they can keep their doors open for years to come.

Yelp
This sushi is so delicious - and one of my favorite things is that the portion sizes are wonderful for to-go orders (check out my photos)! Everything tasted flavorful and fresh. Although I've only ordered to-go, the ambiance of the interior is cute and clean, and at some point I'm sure I will dine in. I've also never had an issue with service, at least for take out orders. Can't wait to keep ordering sushi from here!

Yelp
The hubby and I went here for lunch on 8/13/2023, we were the first ones there and were told to pick any seat we wanted. We were given two waters right away and asked if we wanted anything additional to drink, which we did not. After reviewing the menu, my hubby ordered the Curry Tonkotsu Ramen and I ordered the Tonkotsu Ramen. I also ordered Crab Jumbo Lump Sushi and Unagi Nigiri. The waitresses were very aware of our water cups and kept them filled. After awhile, a small salad with ginger dressing arrived for me, I asked why I was getting a salad and was told that salad was a part of the ramen lunch special. I said cool and then inquired why my husband didn't get salad and the waitress told us that his would be on the side of his meal. She left, but I kept thinking about what she said and couldn't understand why the presentation of my hubby's salad would be different than mine since we both had ordered ramen. However, I was starving and began eating my salad, it was basic, lettuce and ginger dressing, but it was a nice, clean start to my entree. After eating a bit of my salad, I went back to thinking about why my hubby didn't have one and then I got concerned that the waitress had not correctly heard my hubby's order and confused it with a curry dish. My hubby asked the waitress and that is in fact what had happened, she thought he had ordered a katsu curry dish. She apologized, put my hubby's correct order in and eventually he got the same side salad I previously had. My sushi came out after my salad and it was delicious, I loved it! The ramen came out after awhile, I was surprised that it took awhile as at other places it comes out at lightening speed. When the ramen did come out, mine was delicious! The broth was nutty and porky. The pork pieces were thick cut, lots of noodles and flavor. It was great! My husband's was also good, but different, very curry forward. My hubby liked it, couldn't finish his ramen and said he would order it again. When we got the bill it was wrong as it had the incorrect entree for my hubby, my hubby brought it to the waitresses attention and she immediately fixed it. Overall, delicious experience, we will be back!

Yelp
I enjoyed my meal But was concerned about the empty seats I hope it was just an off night I will try again soon I want to discover more about the menu

Yelp
We got the $1.50 nigiri and one of their specials which was a pork katsu and udon. The pork katsu and udon were absolutely delicious and our favorites! The katsu was crispy and the udon was really flavorful. I really did not like the nigiri or the shrimp tempura roll we had. The rice on the nigiri was SO mushy, it was honestly a textural throw off. The shrimp tempura roll was just...really not good, just look at the color of the shrimp in the picture. The service here was really fast and we were able to get seated very quickly on a Friday night! I would come back but definitely not for the sushi.

Yelp
A Japanese restaurant with various sushi, sashimi, rolls, ramen, and other non-sushi options. It is a clean and tidy place with good service and ambiance.

Yelp
We eat here at least once a month! Fresh sushi. Extensive menu. And the service is fast and friendly. Quiet restaurant that is nice for visiting! Great location and super clean!

Yelp
I was visiting DC and had to make the visit out here for the $1.50/piece sushi. It's actually not too far from DC and we ended up finding street parking but apparently you can park in the plaza's garage and get the parking waived for dining here. The menu for $1.50/piece nigiri is so worth it. They have a good variety ranging from tuna to salmon belly to sweet shrimp and raw scallop, which is my absolute favorite. They even have uni for $2.50 and salmon roe for $2. Although the photos on this page looked good, I was still skeptical at whether the quality of the fish would actually be good considering the price and somehow, they managed to keep the quality pretty good. I was actually surprised at the quality of the pieces I got. Of course, it's not going to be omakase level or anything, but it was still fresh and at a decent size. After our first round, both my fiancé and I ended up putting in another order for more! We enjoyed almost all the pieces that we got, and we tried a good variety from the menu too. The crawfish salad was surprisingly tasty, something I've never had in sushi before. And the uni was nice and creamy, not grimy. The only one that we both agreed wasn't the best was the salmon roe, which was a bit saltier than what we prefer. In my opinion, I think it's 100% worth the visit. For only $1.50 a piece (and $2.50 at most), it's so affordable and they have a selection that I've never seen elsewhere at such a good price. Also, they offer this ALL DAY!

Yelp
Food: 10/10 Service: 10/10 Ambiance: 10/10 First off I love sushi and one thing about Arlington, VA is that they have a lot of good sushi options. This place is in my top 10 when it comes to sushi. We started off with dumplings and tempura appetizers. The dumplings had great flavor and the soy sauce based sauce complimented it very well. The tempura was light and airy. Sometimes with fried foods you get that mouth feel of grease. But that wasn't the case for this. In the tempura appetizer you get: shrimp and an assortment of vegetables that are tempura fried. All is delicious and nothing was too heavy. My friend got the tonkatsu pork. She enjoyed it very much. I other hand got sushi. The sushi was very fresh and well prepared. I like that they have an assortment of regular rolls and signature rolls to choose from. Lastly we rounded off our dinner with dango!!! It was light, chewy and warm. Very delicious and not overly sweet. It also paired nicely with the vanilla ice cream!

Yelp
I recently went here with my friend and they had a special lunch menu. We ordered the pork belly, takoyaki, karaage, and the chicken skin skewers. The takoyaki wasnt the best as it lacked bigger pieces of octopus. The chicken skin skewers were also a bit off since we thought they would come crunchy, when they actually were soft - one of the the skewers even had hair in it but our server was nice enough to offer a replacement, but since we didn't enjoy it, we declined. Out of all the lunch specials, our favorite was the braised pork belly. As for the sushi, we ordered our regular pieces but we were surprised when we saw a 50% increase in the sushi prices. I think the sushi is worth $1 but I understand that due to inflation they had to raise their prices.. I just wish it wasn't increased by 50%. The reason I would come back here is because it is decent, still kind of cheap, and is convenient for a quick sushi meal.
google avatar

Suzie A.

Yelp
This is my family's new go to place for Japanese food. 5 stars for affordable lunch sets and nigiri. Love their sashimi lunch set and $1.50 a piece nigiri. Nigiri is slightly small in size, but still delicious and fresh. Friendly customer service. Garage parking is free with validation. Restaurant could use new seats. Hopefully it's in the works to beautify the place soon.

Yelp
I came here for dinner a few times. There are seatings in the first floor or second floor, though it is the same restaurant you can feel two different vibes and ambience. I got the chance to try their yakitori (skewers) which was grilled with a nice Smokey flavor and also very meaty. The ramen was not too salty and served with a great balance of flavors. Services here are also friendly. Would recommend and come back again.
google avatar

Annie C.

Yelp
The menus were sooo overwhelming as they had a bunch of different ones with menu items being all the place. I think my friends just tried a few of bunch of different things, and it was all very average. Nothing in particular that we loved or hated. It was just a satisfactory meal with decent service. The vibes of the restaurant were a bit odd as it was kinda open but also a bit run-down compared to the rest of the area.
google avatar

Ailun H.

Yelp
My thoughts from the previous review still stand, but I'm giving it a 5/5 this time around. The salmon belly nigiri is so good and the sushi rice here is one of best I've had in the area. The unagi nigiri is also very tasty if you want a few bites other than the salmon belly, HAHA. The sweet shrimp nigiri is alright but there's not much shrimp so I probably won't order too much of that next time. In general, the salmon belly here is super fatty and delicious and I'd happily wait 30-40 minutes for the nigiri here given the very reasonable pricing. My friends and I love the sushi here! I am satisfied with the 16 nigiris I ordered here (which was a bit over $20 after tax and tip). I'd consider going elsewhere for food if you are in a rush for time though.
google avatar

Sharmane G.

Yelp
Came here for lunch after an appointment and it did not disappoint! I got the sukiyaki Bento box (sadly there are no subs for this) and it was amazing! Comes with fresh tempura veggies--except the eggplant because I hate eggplant. Also has the beef with shiitake mushrooms and onions sautéed in some soy marinade sauce. Topped with a well done fried egg. The bento also has the classic iceberg +ginger miso carrot dressing salad. There was also seaweed salad, some Japanese egg omelette, a siu Mai? , rice and dipping sauce for the tempura. I also ordered from their 1-2$ sushi nigiri menu, and they're not the largest size but freshly made and delicious! The Uni one was 2$ but worth it! The service was very efficient (I think I walked in right before the lunch rush). The wait staff were very attentive and the kitchen was prompt with my order as well. I'm a huge fan of the lunch here, I will definitely be returning.
google avatar

Mia C.

Yelp
I am so baffled how a place like this exists. $1 nigiri?! All my hopes and dreams, yes!! The fish is fresh tasting, and good portion sizes. It is better than all you can eat because no one is looking over your shoulder to see if you eat all your rice! Love love love it here. Please never close.
google avatar

Karen L.

Yelp
This is such a cool spot, they have $1 nigiri all day long! I had so much fun ordering nigiri but thats not all, they also have a full menu. This time around my group and I were craving fish so we stuck to the nigiri. I will have to come back to try other things (which I will). Three stars because service is poor and slow, food comes out slow and the interior booth we sat at had seats that looked ripped, old and peeling. These things bring the quality done in my opinion to the experience The nigiri was very fresh, no complaints about the quality. I highly recommend the salmon belly, sweet shrimp and yellowtail belly. The sashimi was good, cut smaller than typical but flavor and freshness are on point. Great spot but kind of hidden. Hope to be back to try again. They have ramen and other dishes and appetizers too.
google avatar

Jen A.

Yelp
We ordered 6 rolls but the salmon and white fish did not taste super fresh and the real crab meat was dry.
google avatar

Vivian T.

Yelp
My family and I ordered 2 udon sets, the meatball soup, and various nigiris to try out. The pork katsu and udon were really delicious. The katsu was crispy and the udon was hot and flavorful. The takoyaki was also pretty delicious. The meatball soup was hot and peppery - I enjoyed the soup more than I enjoyed the actual meatballs. As for the nigiri, they were a steal at $1.50. There are many different fish and seafood to choose from. Some fish cuts were definitely better than others in terms of quality. Salmon and scallop nigiris were my favorites. I found the squid nigiri to be too chewy and the yellowtail too fishy smelling. Service was very quick and the waitress was nice. The restaurant is pretty spacious, but the seats are old and torn up. As for parking, the restaurant will validate your parking ticket. Overall, the food was decent and didn't really standout in any way. I would say if you are looking for some affordable sushi, you should definitely check out Takohachi for their $1.50 nigiri deal.
google avatar

Cynthia Y.

Yelp
Takohachi reopened and we were excited to check it out. We ordered some appetizers (Aged Dashi Tofu and Pork Ribs), rolls, and $1 Nigiris. Food was okay. Wouldn't get the tofu and pork rib again. Majority of the $1 Nigiris were fine. (Taste and portion wise for the price was fair) There were a few we ate where it seemed a little fishy like it might be going bad. But overall we think it's still fun/worth it if quality/consistency isn't huge for you. They do take out $1 Nigiri as well. What really got us was the service time. The staff was nice, but the food took forever. We put our order in pretty quickly before it got busy and it took 40 mins for our nigiri to come out. The rolls came out in the next 10 mins, but we waited another 30 mins for the appetizers to come out lol which we think maybe it was forgotten/not put in? Not sure. If you're dining in, the free 1 hr parking in the nearby garage might not be enough time.

Yelp
The deals here are amazing! $1 nigiri! Service: 8/10 Vibe: 8/10 Beef teriyaki bento box: 9/10 Nigiri: 8/10 Eel avocado roll: 9/10 House salad: 8/10 Total: 8.3/10 (4.15/5)

Rachel K.

Yelp
I love this place!! The new location is fantastic. $1 nigiri can't be beat. Good quality fish and really great amount of food for the price. I recommend giving this place a try

Kyaw T.

Yelp
The food is very good, not only in quality, but also in value for the price. The lunch specials are such a good deal (I don't know how they do it for the price!). The portions are generous. and the food is consistent every time I eat there. The service is prompt and attentive. My family and I eat there often (about once a week) and there have never been any issues with our orders. The premises are clean and uncluttered. The decor and furniture seem dated, but that is not an important criterion for me. The music is toned down and subtle, which means that you can have a quiet conversation. If you want chic decor and trendy music, this is not necessarily the best place for you, BUT if you want great food and service at reasonable cost, I highly recommend Takohachi. And you get free parking stamp, too!

Ajia L.

Yelp
Takohachi is such a treat! Tucked into a small strip of stores and restaurants off of Columbia Pike, Takohachi is quite a gem. The place is more spacious than I assumed from its curbside impression, and has a warm, homey feel. I've been twice to eat-in this location, and once for take-out, and I will continue to go back. This restaurant's main appeal for most is their affordable nigiri special that used to $1/piece (exceptions include uni, ikura, and others that are pricier). However, upon my last visit this past weekend, the prices have increased to $1.50/piece. Which isn't a lot in the grand scheme of things, but 150% increase is quite the price hike. Their nigiri is on the smaller size IMO compared to paying full price at other establishments, but the quality is still there. Not the best, but no where close to the worst. Honestly, I think it's still worth it as a sushi-lover. Takohachi has great lunch specials that are always tempting, and people seem to love them. I've also heard good things about the ramen here, but haven't tried it yet. I much rather go for straight sushi/nigiri 99.9% of the time lol. One thing that really stands out is the impeccable service I always receive when I come here. No matter how busy, they're always attentive and kind. Last time there was even a mistake with my order (missing a few nigiri) and they listened to me, immediately checked my order, and corrected it without issue. Love this place & I'll become quite the regular!
google avatar

Sophia P.

Yelp
What a hidden gem of a place. You really can't beat the prices for the quality of sushi. Tucked in a shopping plaza off Columbia Pike, Takohachi is unassuming and cozy. I had heard about the $1 (now $1.50) nigiri sushi, and of course, like most reviewers, felt skeptical of the quality for the dollar. Don't be skeptical. Just go. It will change your sushi date nights. They have so much variety, and literally everything is $1.50. Since discovering Takohachi, I frequent this place about once a month. You will leave with full bellies and only having spent $40 instead of $70+. I've also tried their takoyaki, karaage and curry, all of which were delicious. The service here is also fantastic. They are never super busy in the restaurant, but the amount of take-out orders that I see is quite a bit. They are able to keep up with everything while still being attentive to their customers and I never have to wait more than 10 minutes for my food.
google avatar

Jerry X.

Yelp
Okay $1.50/piece nigiri? Sign me up any day! I used to study at the Starbucks around the corner and am surprised it took me this long to try it! My friend brought me here since they had been ordering takeout from here for the longest time. I can't even begin to describe how much of a steal the price for nigiri is! My favorite was the sweet shrimp, but I also had a chance to try the salmon, salmon belly, tuna, tuna belly, yellowtail, unagi, squid, and many more. Seriously, the fact that you can have pieces of that much variety for a reasonable price should be all the convincing you need to check out Takohachi! Get over here now!

Yelp
I came here on a Friday night and sat at the sushi bar. No problem getting a seat as they were only about 40% full. Parking was easy and the restaurant is pretty spacious as others have mentioned, but that's about where the pluses end. I sat for over 5 minutes in plain sight at the bar and had to call my own server over like a taxi, which I've never had to do before even at some hole in the wall sushi places. I ordered a sashimi deluxe and a pork on stick appetizer. They got my order wrong, but I was glad they fixed it. The taste was ok but nothing I haven't experienced before. I think the price wasn't worth it for the food (or maybe it's just inflation?), but if your coming with friends and for drinks the ambience might be worth it. Would I come back just for a meal? Probably not, but I'd definitely come back if I was expecting a group setting. Lastly since the service was so slow I was disappointed I couldn't leave the place within one hour for free parking. Hopefully they will either hire more staff or train more attentive waiters.

Yelp
So.... I was soooo intrigued by the "$1 sushi" (now $1.50) and had to try it and I'm glad I tried it because it relieved my curiosity. Fyi--We went rather early, so I'm wondering if there was not much rotation yet (in terms of quality and freshness). The sushi is not bad. For $1.50, honestly, I went in the mindset of just hoping for no food poisoning. And I must apologize for that thinking because the place was clean, everyone was nice, and I was mind blown how they were able to serve $1.50 per sushi. The variations of tuna weren't bad. The hamachi (or one of the other white fishes), I think, was not that great. Salmon belly was good. Ikura was good. Sea urchin (extra $1, I believe) was not bad. The takoyaki had good flavor but was a bit undercooked inside. The only reason I dropped my rating is because we couldn't get rid of the fishy-ness from our system. Usually when we have sushi, the fishy taste doesn't linger around, but here, it took the whole night, which I suspected may have been a quality issue. Overall, I don't think I'll be back, but kudos to them for serving sushi at this price.

Yelp
We ventured out here on a Saturday afternoon and we were impressed!! The flavor profile here was amazing, had the chance to enjoy some apps and tried both the raw and cooked sushi options! I am in love with the Dancing Roll, it packs a punch, from the soft cream cheese inside to the shredded crab on top- I mean, delicious! The Eel Unagi is great too, tasty, hearty and goes down well! Takohachi will see me again, without a doubt!

Yelp
Great ambiance! The service is to the point! Food is lovely... I had several servings of hot sake.. while gobbling down some maki rolls. My lady ordered the Dancing roll, when I tell you this danced in my belly and gave me euphoria from its taste.. great spot. You'll definitely love it here..

Yelp
Their nigiri is now $1.50, but honestly you really can't beat that price nowadays!!! Everything is made fresh to order. They don't skimp on the raw fish cuts either. If you park in the parking deck, they will also validate your parking if you go over the initial free hour. Glad I have a place to go to for decent sushi that doesn't break the bank when I am craving it!

Yelp
We are regulars here. They have worked out the kinks after moving. Service is timely, everyone is friendly and the food is still great. Love the expanded menu too.

Yelp
Small, simple Japanese restaurant with $1 nigiri and reasonably priced chirashi and sushi special. Taiyaki dessert shaped like a fish with green tea and red bean ice cream was a sweet way to top off our lunch. We came here on a Sunday and the place was not too crowded with well spaced out tables. Service was prompt and courteous with a rustic environment highlighted by Japanese artwork and decor. Dessert

Yelp
Excellent, maybe the best (correct) Japanese food in the area. Unfortunately they open a little late for lunch so sometimes I have to order elsewhere to get bento at noon. But I'll order from here whenever I can.

Yelp
I'm depressed I didn't find out about this restaurant sooner. I have ordered takeout three times within the last two weeks, and I would have ordered more if I I lived any closer. You can't really get much better than $1 nigiri at this quality anywhere in the area. All three takeout for strictly the nigiri, and I have tried just about all the raw fish options they have. My personal favorites are Yellowtail, Salmon Belly and Escobar. Sure, the fish won't be as thick and juicy and there is more rice, but that's to be expected at this price point. Delicious and filling for a great price. The service is exceptional as well. Friendly over the phone and in restaurant. It's a crime to not know about this joint as a sushi lover. 5/5
