The Biggest D.C.-Area Restaurant Openings in August 2025 | Eater DC

"In Bethesda, this newcomer promises freshly flown-in sushi and sashimi alongside maki, soups, salads, dumplings, wagyu fried rice, chicken katsu, udon noodle soup, salmon teriyaki, ramen, and donburi, with a $65-per-person omakase available. Sweets skew classic with mochi ice cream and taiyaki, and a forthcoming liquor license will enable sake, wine, beer, and cocktails like a matcha sour and shiso gimlet." - Tierney Plumb

I was very, very suspicious about the five star reviews and I just assumed there was some mischief going on, there had to be some sort of, leave a five star review for a free mochi ice cream, or something. I have to report there were no covert deals offered. The food was just good quality at a reasonable price, and the service was very friendly. My waitress was named Linda and she was a sweetheart and made the experience great. I’m not sure I would call it tradition Japanese food, but good modern takes. The golden ramen was impressively good.

I am glad to find this sushi place near our neighborhood. It was lucky to have lunch menus (11 to 3pm M-F) at special prices today. For lunch combo menus, you can pick either soup/or salad + nigiri/or sashimi/or chirashi ($5+) don and one rolls, which allowed us to have our favorite choices. 5pcs Nigiris in the combo are well-crafted, carefully selected (not always salmon and tuna), and super-tasty. Side-dishes are a bit disappointing but not bad for the price. Chirashi don in the lunch combo and tonkasu ramen are ok (but above the average) as you can find at Akira/Jinya. Overall I would put this place to the best sushi restaurant in MD considering the price.

This will be my go-to sushi spot from now on! We are so delighted that this has opened up nearby--particularly given the lovely staff that we encountered working here. Everyone was so friendly and excited to tell us about their food (as they should be!). The young man who waited on us was very sweet and attentive, and our food came out almost immediately! The Takumi house special roll was especially delicious, shown in the foreground of the photo. But everything we ordered was spectacular and we can't wait to come back!

Everything was perfect, the meat / fish were fresh and delicious, the preparation, presentation, and most importantly, the taste was mind blowing. All the sushis, salads and the wagyu fried rice tasted different and delicious giving a burst of flavors in your mouth. Definitely repeat, highly recommended.

⭐️Must-visit sushi spot in DMV⭐️ Always blown away by the consistently excellent, high-quality sushi, and Takumi’s new Bethesda location certainly surpassed my expectations. Even the “ordinary” pieces like salmon and tuna were incredibly fresh, torched to perfection and have that melt-in-your-mouth quality. The menu offers a wide enough variety that works for both a regular day as well as a more elevated Japanese cuisine experience. Highly impressed with the seamless service by the kind, attentive staff even during soft opening. Worth every bit and penny!! Will return for more soon!!

This is the sushi spot you’ve got to try in DC! The uni is unbelievably sweet, every ingredient tastes super fresh, and each bite feels carefully crafted. Honestly, you can’t go wrong with anything on the menu. The cozy vibe just makes it even better — left feeling full and happy! 🍣✨

🍜 Takumi Japanese Bistro & Bar – Food Review 🍤 I was visiting my little brother and his wife, and he said, “Let’s try this ramen spot right around the corner from us” — Takumi Japanese Bistro & Bar. We decided to do carryout, and honestly, everything held up really well for takeout. 🙌🏽 We ordered the Golden Ramen, Kimchi Beef Ramen, Shrimp Tempura, and Vegetable Tempura. The ramen was rich and flavorful, with broth that tasted like it had been simmered for hours 🍲 and noodles that still had a great texture. The kimchi beef ramen had just the right amount of spice and depth 🌶️. Both the shrimp 🍤 and vegetable tempura 🥦 were crispy, light, and not greasy at all — definitely a standout. Everything tasted fresh and well-prepared, and the portions were generous. Overall, Takumi impressed all of us 👏🏽. For a quick carryout dinner, the food quality and flavor were spot on. If you’re ever in the area and craving authentic ramen or some solid Japanese comfort food, it’s worth checking out! 🍶✨

Just some scattered thoughts on my experience. Me and my SO went around 3pm on a Saturday. At this time it was almost empty. Apparently it’s fully booked for dinner on the weekends. So I think we were lucky. The sushi was really good. The salmon and tuna was from Iceland and Spain for me. For the omakase sushi set my SO got, the fish is from Japan. The sushi was fresh and no sinew/stringy texture. The simple flavors really exemplify the fish. I also got one of their specialty rolls and it was really good. One of the best I had since the spicy mayo was very light to keep the seared tuna and spicy tuna the main note of the roll. The only thing I didn’t like, which is probably preference, is that the stringy decorations on top of the sushi seemed a bit over the top. I picked some off to put to the side. Other than that, the plating was great. Since we went at an odd time the service (Josh) was excellent. The agedashi tofu was my favorite dish. The mild flavor sauce with soft tofu with somewhat crispy crust that soaks up the sauce. I recommend you try this restaurant if you’re a fan of sushi.
