The Biggest Restaurant Openings to Know About in Boston, March 2025 | Eater Boston

"Cocktail champs Joseph Cammarata and Daren Swisher (who also run cocktail bar Daiquiris & Daisies in downtown Boston food hall High Street Place) have opened a casual bar and restaurant in the former home of Somerville’s Thirsty Scholar pub. The menu features burgers, pork sausage rolls, sub-$15 cocktails, and head-turning bar snacks like candied Japanese peanuts and pickled mushrooms dusted in smoked paprika." - Erika Adams

The Most Anticipated Boston Restaurant Openings in 2025 | Eater Boston

"A new bar from Darren at the former home of The Thirsty Scholar drew attention for adding to the city's bar scene: "I’m excited for Darren to open his bar, at the former home of The Thirsty Scholar. Generally, I think we could use more bars, especially given the amount of talent we have in this city." — Brian Samuels, Boston food photographer." - Erika Adams

The Most Anticipated Boston Restaurant Openings of Fall 2024 | Eater Boston

"A relaxed neighborhood cocktail bar by experienced bartenders is taking over the former Thirsty Scholar pub in Somerville, aiming to be an easygoing local spot that still delivers expertly made drinks. The co-owners bring pedigrees from Backbar, Hojoko, and Daiquiris & Daisies, and they hope to open sometime this fall." - Erika Adams

A bar with top-notch service and truly skilled and knowledgeable bartenders. We sat in the cozy back patio, which added to the relaxed, welcoming vibe. The food was far beyond your typical pub fare — flavorful and thoughtfully prepared. They had an impressive selection of whiskies, tequilas, and digestifs, all at very reasonable prices. I was lucky enough to try the Fortaleza Winter Blends 2023 and 2024 side by side, and the bartender was kind enough to label the glasses so I could compare them properly. Cocktails were excellent as well. For food, we ordered the Baby Iceberg Salad, Pork Sausage Roll, Denver Steak Frites, Roasted Cod, Risotto, and Chicken Sandwich. Everything was delicious — my steak was cooked perfectly to temp, and the fries were crispy and well-seasoned. One person in our group wasn’t sure about the doneness of their chicken sandwich since it looked slightly pink in the middle (which seemed normal to me for a chicken thigh sandwich). Our server handled it perfectly — he offered both a replacement and a refund without hesitation. The manager, Daren, also came by to explain that they carefully temp all their chicken straight from the fryer and use high-quality organic meat. To top it off, they even sent out a complimentary flan for dessert. Overall, our experience at Tall Order far exceeded expectations — fantastic service, great drinks, and delicious food. We’ll definitely be coming back!

The drinks were very very good. The green maize and the mango foam vodka drink were A1. The pasta was good too, but the duck sliders were just ok. Would def come back, really cute local bar.

Amazing gluten free options and knowledgeable servers! Dedicated fryer so I could enjoy the French fries and fried chicken sandwich (on a gf bun) without worry of cross contamination. Can’t wait to go back!

The food here is consistently great and reasonably priced. All the employees are friendly and knowledgeable. So great to have a spot in my area that feels like a good spot to meet up at for people with different tastes. The riesling is especially great with the firecracker tofu. And I have had more than a few late night burgers that blew my socks off with how much they hit the spot. Definitely give them a try! They’re super nice people and are doing something the neighborhood needs.

We tried a few of the vegetarian dishes. The pasta really lacked flavor. The tofu had an odd flavor profile but wasn’t too bad. The cocktails we tried were not good. 2/5 for food but service was fine.

Amazing new spot. The drinks are phenomenal and the food is all top notch. I'd highly recommend the candied peanuts, smoked bluefish pate, grilled broccoli, karaage chicken sandwich and grilled pork blade steak. This place is high end food, but without the high price or pretentiousness.

Food and service was great! Many vegetarian options on the menu. Pork entree and mushroom pasta were our favorites.

We had a fabulous dinner at Tall Order. The cocktails were phenomenal. Very well balanced, using bottles we were unfamiliar with so a nice treat. We also had the low-abv Little Panda, which was very good. Next time we will try some of their NA cocktails, but they all sounded interesting. The food was excellent as well. I had the rosemary fries and freicracker tofu, which were both outstanding. The real show stopper for me was the grilled broccoli--I couldn't get enough of it! My husband had the kaarage chicken sandwich and said it was good though it did fall apart a bit as he ate. Lastly, the service deserved everyone one of the five stars I gave. My water glass was never empty and our server was polite, well-informed on the menu, and attentive to ask about allergies. The noise level was also reasonable, which I mention because I'm sensitive to loud noises and get annoyed by noisy restaurants where I can't hear the person sitting across from me. Overall, I highly recommend.

Yelp
tl;dr amazing addition to the neighborhood, perfect blend of cocktail bar and casual vibes. Excited to be back! My partner and I visited Tall Order on the first Friday it was open upon hearing that it officially live. I'd been to the Thirsty Scholar Pub in the same location many years before (and also knew it from The Social Network movie), but I was intrigued with the new theme that the new management was bringing. And Tall Order did not disappoint! We got the Firecracker Tofu for food, which was an excellent accompaniment to our drinks. The spicy and savory flavor profile was perfect, and was one of the tastier bar food appetizer options I've ever had. Drinks-wise, we started with the Tall Order cocktail and American Tourist (low alc) cocktail. Both were excellent - I personally felt that the Tall Order had a great balance of alcohol content and refreshing flavor. I followed up the second round with the Apple Baker cocktail, which was stronger and denser, but packed the right flavor. All in all, this is an excellent bar to have in the neighborhood. Food wise they have plenty of vegetarian options and are low alc and NA friendly. The staff are also friendly and helpful throughout our time there. I'm very excited to return soon to try more items on both the food and drink menus!
