When I was a kid, my mom went to Tallahassee Nurseries regularly and often my siblings and I had to go with. I remember complaining nonstop those afternoons, constantly announcing my disinterest in plant life and choosing to watch the koi fish and look for caterpillars instead. Now, fifteen years later, I still love the koi (and the friendly nursery cats), and I'm finally able to look through the eyes of an adult and see what my mom saw all those afternoons - a veritable wonderland of greenery, flowers, and now, wine slushees!
Tallahassee Nurseries is like a magical, whimsical playground for adults with a plant addiction. You're greeted up front by their ever-friendly dinosaur statue (decked out in holiday gear starting late November) when you walk in, and that's just the start of it. You'll discover new little gnome homes built into the bottom of the trees each time you go. If you're here around the holidays, the trees are festively trimmed with colorful lights, poinsettias litter the grounds, and various houseplants are "dressed up" as Red-nosed Reindeer. I mean, seriously! How infuriatingly cute is that??!
I came here today and left with a beautiful Kalanchoe (they have a fantastic variety of succulents) and Hoya to add to my houseplant collection, and I'm already itching to go back and get some more Christmas presents for myself. I have a free afternoon tomorrow, we'll see what happens.
