They were pretty busy but the college students running the place did a good job of helping everyone and quickly. The shrimp Po' boy was pretty good but I also got to try the shrimp and grits and they were great. Walking up to the restaurant I thought it was going to be super cool inside but unfortunately the interior was kind of boring. Food - 4 Service - 5 Vibe - 3

There were five of us who had brunch at Tallahatchie on a Football weekend in Oxford. The wait was approx. 30-40 minutes but it didn't seem long as the restaurant seats a good amount of people and it was a beautiful Sunday on the square. When we were seated I was amazed to hear a live 2/3 jazz style band quietly playing in the background. Instantly I was in love! The menu isn't big and portion size average but the ambiance was great and we were not rushed! The food was tasty and service very attentive. It's my new go - to when in Oxford, hoping to try lunch and dinner too!

A hidden gem just off the square that serves up some amazing food. I came in for lunch and the service was excellent and the vibe is Southern Casual. It seems that they do a lot of to go and catering and from what everyone there was saying, it's top notch.

I've been wanting to try this place for a while now... I ordered 3 takeout lunch plates with sides... the food was good, but the portions were very small. Making the price not worth it. If you order a lunch tray with 1 meat and 3 sides (paying extra for the 3rd side) and are still hungry after finishing your food... it's a waste of time and money. Great taste horrible value.

I had a great meal at Tallahatchie gourmet. My favorite is the chicken and dumplings. Banks Moore was my server and he was very good.

First have to say that the service was really good. We came for Sunday brunch and they told us a 30 minute wait that ended up only being 15. Our waiter was very attentive, prompt, and kind. Also loved the live music. We sat at a booth and the pillows needed some washing, there were stains. Ordered the burger and fries and the shrimp and grits. We waited awhile for the food, probably around 20 minutes. Burger was bland and unseasoned. There was a lot of shrimp which I appreciated but it was just covered in cheese on top of the cheesy grits which also could've done with more seasoning. The food was meh and needed more flavor. The bathroom also could've done with a cleaning, the walls were pretty dirty.

I used to love this place and always ate there when I was in Oxford. However, on my recent trip I was greatly disappointed. "Hamburger steak" was a commercially preformed patty that I wasn't real sure was beef. The serving of mashed potatoes was so small that it could not have been more than 1/4 cup. The dinner roll was a tiny square that was about the size of the butter pat. What happened? I was really sad.

The food and service is reliably good. We have eaten there with out of town friends the past several weeks. The special on Fridays is a filet, which has been delicious and cooked to our requests (medium rare for me and medium for my husband). It came with fresh steamed vegetables, a choice of potatoes and bread. Our friend had the Mississippi fried catfish, which was heavily breaded. Another friend had the fried chicken tenders, and she enjoyed them. One thing to be aware of is the temperature in the restaurant- it is always very cold. Bring a coat!

Great sandwiches and friendly service. A bit pricey for a sandwich place but still really good.

My mom and I came here for lunch. Casual but cute atmosphere. I ordered the salmon and she ordered the oriental salad. We split a side of turnip greens. The food was good. The greens were the best part of the meal. Our server was polite and we did not have to wait too long for anything. Very reasonably priced. Deducted a star because the menu said my salmon was supposed to come with cheese grits which I did not receive. I'm sure we will return here to try their weekend brunch, which I've heard great things about, and I will update my review then.

Food was good. I had my first purple hulled peas. Gannon did a great job with service. It was nice to sit outside. It was a little chilly inside but glad you were open a Monday.

Had the honey buffalo chicken sandwich. Let me just tell you something. The honey and buffalo combination slapped me like the clap back from the other night. Could have used more buffalo in the mixture but was still up to par. The fries were greatly seasoned just like how mama used to make them.

Bloody Mary...Fabulous Music.... Wonderful Food....Awesomesauce Service.....Impeccable Dog with the band..... Priceless

Nice, warm, comfy spot just by Oxford Town Square. This place is perfect for a casual brunch or lunch for big or small groups with helpful and accommodating staff. Our server, Alex, was beyond helpful and hospitable. Highly recommend the CHICKEN SPAGHETTI when they have it!Chicken Spaghetti

Awesome food, great vibes! Loved this place, will definitely come back next time I'm in Oxford! Po boy was incredible and the sides were the best kind of southern home cooking. It's a shame how a person's actions can ruin the image of a business or a place. We've been in Oxford, Mississippi for the UK vs. Ole Miss football game this weekend and I had been so impressed with the town and the southern hospitality. But today all of those happy feelings went away with what we experienced at lunch. After a relaxing morning at the AirB&B, we decided to go back to The Square to do some shopping and eat lunch before heading back home. After asking several people for recommendations and checking Yelp reviews, we decided to eat at Tallahatchie Gourmet. We had to wait for about 30 minutes for them to open so just went in a few shops to kill time. When we got there, the hostess told us it would be about a 20 minute wait. No problem, we were looking forward to the Shrimp and Grits, Southern Fried Catfish, and beignets. After about 45 minutes and still not being seated, David checked with the hostess and she said that we were next once a "2 seater" opened. We thought that was strange since we'd seen them seat other couples at tables that had more than 2 chairs. I even laughed and said, "It's probably because we are dressed in UK shirts". We finally were seated and waited and waited for a server, actually looking around to see who was covering our section. The server finally came and was a young college aged guy. He brought our drinks and said he would be right back to take our order. He never came back. After 10-15 minutes of watching him tend to other tables, David flagged him down. When he approached our table, he said "Are you feeling the Wildcat neglect?" David said, "What did you say?" and he repeated it. At that point, I said, "Wow, really". David looked at me and said, "Are you ready to go?" to which I answered "Yes!" As we were leaving, I stopped at the bar and asked to speak to the manager. The young male bartender told me that she was too busy in the kitchen and that I could not speak with her. At this point, we were both so angry and disappointed that we just left. I mean, they won the game. Why act like jerks to the opposing team fans the next day? I was so upset that I was close to tears. I had actually started a FB post with pictures and some video of the awesome live music that was entertaining the diners, but was waiting until after we ate to post it. I think that if we had gone in there in regular clothes, this post would have been very different, it seemed like a really cool place, but their disrespectful actions, will prevent us from ever returning. Go Cats! But don't go there. #soimmature #classless

Dining Room has reopened. Unfortunately the Entertainment is on hold. Serving New Orleans Style Southern Comfort Food ~ Daily Blue Plate Lunch Specials, Salads, Sandwiches. Owner Angele Mueller's Cajun/Creole Recipes ~ Seafood Gumbo, Shrimp 'n Grits, etc. ~ are Amazing! Love their variety of Ready-to-Serve Party Foods, Frozen Casseroles, Desserts ~ They disappear fast on Thursdays & Fridays. I highly recommend the White Lasagna! Check the Online Menu, Call In your Order, & Fill your Freezer for those coming Winter Nights. Professional Courteous Staff.

I like this restaurant. Located below Nielsen's on the Square you must visit this place. My only time to eat here was on a Sunday for lunch and I wanted to try their fried chicken but it wasn't offered on their special Sunday brunch menu. Not wanting brunch, I opted for the hamburger steak with purple hull peas, green beans and mashed potatoes for about $12. My meal came out in about 10 minutes with some cornbread. The hamburger steak was a round patty with gravy and onions. While not large in size it tasted good. While I thought the peas needed more flavor the green beans had plenty and the mashed potatoes were on par with the green beans. I enjoyed this meal and rated it at a 4. This meat and three meal was on par with Ajax and that's saying a lot. Also on Sundays a one man jazz band plays and he was excellent. It's a good reason to visit on Sundays but then any day this place is open is a good day to stop by. I will return when I'm back in Oxford.

Sunday Brunch! So good! Their service is great- the servers are prompt and extremely friendly! It is a cute place sort of tucked away! Don't miss going there! Oh I do like the frozen casseroles to take home for a delicious quick dinner.

Let me just tell you, I've only ever ordered one thing from there and one thing only. The Honey Buffalo Chicken Sandwich is it. That is the only thing I would recommend getting from there. DO NOT ORDER A FROZEN CASSEROLE FROM THERE. Only get the chicken sandwich, trust me.

Sunday is busy. We sat on the front porch and enjoyed the warm Spring weather while we ate brunch.

The shrimp and grits with cheese and bacon were delicious. The fried chicken tenders (3 large, real chicken) and crinkle cut fries were really good. They have wine. I'll definitely be going back. Service was great.

Food is good. Not too fancy . Simply just good food in oxford! It can get busy. Great to order for Thanksgiving and events too.

Service was great. Shrimp gumbo was ok. Lots of shrimp! Mine was not very warm and lacked some cajun flair. The bathroom really skeeved me out. Thick and quite visible layer of dust on the cabinet that houses the paper products. The worst part was what looked like someone had yacked on the wall across from the toilet and was also on the floor. All dry. This was on a midday in the mid-afternoon.

I honestly didn't feel comfortable at this spot. My guest and I were the only minorities dining. And it felt like we invaded 'their' spot and didn't belong. The food wasn't good and I wouldn't return. Actually left with finishing meal.

Delicious. On football home games crowded. Away games nest to enjoy. Worth the wait. Has catering items. Excellent service. On Sundays live music.

Went here on a Saturday night for dinner. The owner was present and she was absolutely lovely. Which always adds to the flavor of a restaurant. The food was fabulous. And I'm picky. I actually shared a burger and an order of shrimp and grits with a friend. The shrimp and grits dish was amazing. Again, I'm choosy and think City Grocery has below average shrimp and grits. So, if you like City Groceries... you will like this even better. The burger was very juicy and flavorful. The fries were average fries... not hand cut, probably out of a bag. A friend had the catfish and said it was wonderful. Even better the price was very affordable. Now for the below average part... I don't like the atmosphere. And with so many great restaurants in Oxford, atmosphere matters. It's like being in a cafeteria. If this restaurant had the atmosphere of Boure or a Bar Taco--- they would be jam packed with a wait out the door. Sadly, atmosphere weighs in at 60% of the dinner experience for me 40% food. My husband would have a different set of priorities, but I get to choose the restaurant!

This place was delicious!! We had the shrimp po'boy and the oriental salad with shrimp... all of it was fabulous, highly recommend this place for a nice lunch. The service was great too!!

The food was delicious and reasonably priced. The waiters and waitresses were very friendly.

Oh my gooooosh! A gem! I am a transplant in North Carolina from California. Dropping my last of four off to college at Ole Miss and found this amazing food. I had the kale/Brussels sprouts salad with salmon. To die for!!!! Cashews, red cabbage, Brussels sprouts, red onions, and more. Every bite was delicious. The on tap beer list was a joy. I drank the Crowd Control IPA and it is now my favorite. Y'all need to eat here!!!!

Freezing cold. All the specials gone because we ate toward the end of lunch. They were preparing for an event so they were hollaring back and forth and packing supplies across the restaurant like we weren't there. Food ok but atmosphere was like a cafeteria.

Wow, not only is the food amazing, but Ira And Peter are some wonderful young men. The atmosphere at this restaurant is quite fantastic with live music. The Sunday Brunch menu is wonderful as well. If you are looking to get some drinks, the bar is an awesome hang out with very cool bartenders!

I had very high hopes for this restaurant, but it came down to the execution of the food and attention to detail. While the menu sounds fantastic, the food was just okay, but has great potential.

Found my new hangout in Oxford and walking distance to my house. Easy in and out, great bar and awesome food to go. The first night we had the cheese grits and salmon...incredibly delicious. The next day a perfect burger.

The prices on the menu were different than the prices on the check. We got the chicken and waffles and the French toast which were both marked as $9.50 but they charged $10.50 for the chicken and waffles and $12.50 for the French toast. I was not sure if I just did not remember correctly, so I unfortunately went on and paid. I sneaked a look at the menu as we were leaving and I was right. They did not leave a copy of an itemized receipt after I paid, which is odd. The service and food were mediocre and they are not an honest business. This is the most disappointed I have been with a restaurant.

My husband and I decided to try this place for lunch as it's one of the only places on the square we haven't tried. The atmosphere is southern and stylish. Really cute. You order at the register before taking a seat, so it's pretty casual. I ordered the crawfish poboy with a side of potato salad. My husband ordered the plate of the day which was meatloaf and mashed potatoes with cornbread. He also added a side of pasta salad. My poboy was really good. The bread was awesome and the crawfish was seasoned well. The potato salad was great. The meatloaf was seasoned well and the mashed potatoes and gravy were awesome. The cornbread was also great. The only thing we didn't like too much was the pasta salad, but I think that's just because of the dressing they put on it. All the waiters were very nice. We spent about $25 on all of it, so it was great for the price considering we also would've spent about that much at somewhere like IHOP. For dessert we ordered the chocolate fudge pie (which is a house favorite and I can see why!!) and the cheesecake. Both are amazing! If you like southern food, this place is really good. Especially for the price.

2nd visit, this time with mom, aunt and uncle for lunch. They all had the burger, I had the club sandwich. My club was great and I ate every bite. But apparently, I should have had the burger and onion rings. My uncle described they were the best he had ever had and was worth a drive down from Memphis. My mom, who is a critical eater, loved it as well. I tasted their onion rings and loved them. They are real, handmade onion rings, not frozen from a bag. I recommended we have lunch here and my uncles said I picked a winner.

A bit disappointed with lunch here today. First of all, the menus posted on this site is not the menu we given today. The menu today was mainly sandwiches and salads. The daily plate was available but it was fried catfish and I can't eat fried. So where is all the other dishes ??? We were seated by hostess and waited a good 10 to 15 minutes before anyone came to inquire about drinks, etc. Once a waiter acknowledged us the service was as fine for the rest of the meal. So , I picked a boring club sandwich from the menu given. My lunch partner had an oyster PO boy and fries. My club sandwich was...a slice of ham, a slice of Turkey , cheese and a ton of Mayo on white bread. Never had a club without tomato, bacon and lettuce....so yeah, it was pretty boring. The oyster Poboy was good, however the fries were oven baked crinkle cut sand lacked any flavor or correct preparation. So, I'm hoping this was just a bad day or a Covid thing. I had heard good things and was really anxious to try it while I was in town. The menu was just a real disappointment. Don't really know if I want to try it again in a city where there are such great food choices.

Not impressed, I heard brunch was better. My fish was overcooked, the scene is older. I was so hoping it to be comparable to the other restaurants on the square but it's last on my list.

Friendly staff, great lunch "meat and three" and the best salmon I have eaten in Mississippi. Their ordering system is table service at night and counter ordered, delivered to your table at lunch

Ate here tonight with family. Very nice, brighter and more spacious inside than I was expecting. Located under Neilson's on the Square. I had the Pasta Bienville, 2 others had Shrimp & Grits and one had the Salmon. All was great. They have a good beer and wine selection and appears to have a full bar. Prices were very reasonable and we'll definitely be back.

Wonderful food! It's not overpriced. The staff are quick. We enjoy coming here a couple times a month.

This great was place. I just visited here from Florida and had a great time. It was like New Orleans but less crowded. Anyway, if you want some outstanding food and service then you should definitely check this place out.

Nice Sunday morning breakfast with bluesy live music in background. Had shrimp and grits and an omelet, both were "just enough" and tasty. Good service and nice vibe.

This was my first time at this place, and it will certainly not be the last. The owner is an absolute sweetheart, the food is a good price, and it's absolutely delicious. I had the friend green tomatoes and the kale salad...both a must!! I will definitely be coming back!! :)

3.5 to 4 Stars. It was ok, even good. However, with the local competition it left a lot to be desired. We had Fried Shrimp Po Boy and Catfish PoBoy. Shrimp and fish were good, not great. Bread was average. Cole slaw was average. Can't say anything bad. Happy with meal but most places we go in Oxford we rave about afterwards. We ate dinner. Will come back for lunch bc everyone talks about a good lunch here!

I try to drop in here when I go through Oxford. Consistently good food- lunch and dinner. Ask about nightly specials, they are always delicious. Salads are all tasty and poboys are a specialty.
