Where To Eat At Midway Airport - Chicago - The Infatuation

"Tallboy is ideal if you’re going to collapse from hunger after waiting at security for an hour. It’s located just past TSA in the main food court, and besides carne asada or chicken chimichurri tacos, there are bowls, salads, and quesadillas. Things like steak and egg burritos are available at breakfast—giving you the strength to make it through a crack-of-dawn flight without losing it on the toddler treating your seat like a soccer ball." - veda kilaru

Airport prices? Yes. Spectacular food? No. What I will say is that I got a chicken bowl that was about what I expected—it was equivalent to a really good frozen meal. I got a smile from the employee when I picked up my order—which is rare these days, especially at an airport.

Google
Unbelievably poor service. With a big line waiting to order and pay (kiosks were not all working and apparently the voucher people needed to order at register) the employees were idle. The manager looked exhausted. After finally placing my order for two tacos (25 minute wait with just two people ahead of me) the cook walked away for 5-10 minutes. She came back and I asked if she’s working on my order. She responds who are you (nice!). Give her my name, she prepared it in a few minutes, tossed it on the counter and turns her back. I asked is this order for Sue? She replied yeah with back turned. Wow. All that for two tacos and $13. Fish taco was tasteless, pork not bad. Corn taco shells cold. No salsa offered or readily available. Is this the best you can do? I hope that someone cares enough to see and respond to this review.

Google
The associates were not friendly , I just stood there not knowing what is going on. They don’t greet customers. The bowll is so small atleast I got food that was my thought. Customer service goes along way greet your customers. My food was warm .

Google
We had a layover at Chicago Midway. This is not something I would normally get but it looked and smelled good and the proce point couldn't be beat. We had the shrimp tacos. It was actually pretty tasty. I would definitely eat there again.

Google
The staff is nice/pleasant. The salsa is basically flavorless tomato juice. The STANDARD guac SHOULD NOT be so spicy…: The kiosk ordering stands and the line is chaotic

Google
Avoid at all costs. Overpriced and terrible food. The guacamole was four dollars for that tiny container. Whoever owns and run this restaurant should be ashamed of their business.

Google
Don’t try this location in the Midway airport. Terrible service and it is a walk up Chipotle style place. Way, way over priced. Had a rice bowl that was mostly rice. The chicken in it was good but the guacamole was old and starting to turn colors. The order of chips and salsa for $6.00 was such a tiny bag of chips it was laughable. As I was waiting for my food another guest returned his food and said it wasn’t made right and then walked away. I spent $34.42 w/a tip for what should have been half or 1/3 that much. Pick another spot for a travel meal in the Midway airport.

Google
Airport Dining in Chicago continues to decline in quality. It's depressing when you pay over $20 for three mostly dry tacos that you are expected to order from a kiosk. I understand the overhead of airport operations, but you think these restaurants could deliver decent food with their premium prices. After ordering they tossed my tacos on the counter, I was not offered a bag but I grabbed one to help me transport it to my gate. I got the three taco combo - Steak, Chicken, and Fish. The Carne Asada Steak was the most acceptable; it wasn't too dry, but it was a bit spicier than I like. The Chicken Chimichurri was totally dry and lacked enough flavor to justify finish eating it. I was very hopeful for the Crispy Fish Taco, but it too seemed dried out. I think all of these meats sat for too long. Overall, it isn't bad relative to other choices in the airport if you are desperate. That isn't saying much... Just don't get the chicken taco.

Yelp
It's located within Midway airport and you have to order at the kiosk. My pork tacos were so greasy that I had to eat them with a fork. They weren't even that good. The queso was just okay but it was a large portion and the tortilla chips were good. The waitstaff was rude when I got my food as they just handed me the tacos and were put off when I asked for the queso and just pointed to the bag on the counter

Yelp
Tallboy is part of the Midway food court. Located closed to the edge of the food court, not so easy to spot either. Very limited options on the menu. Tacos, bowls, quesadillas and Salads. There's a kiosk right outside it where you can order. Not a big fan of that one as every options comes with suggestions by default and it's so difficult to navigate. Ordered a chicken bowl and a chicken chinichuri taco. Service was quite fast, i didn't expect them to call my name so fast considering the line for ordering! Coming to the service, not particularly impressed. The employees showed attitude when I asked to confirm my order. I asked for the spicy salsa, they gave me the mild one twice before handing over the right one. Strange! The food was not packed, no bags, no utensils nor napkins even though I asked for a takeout! I did that myself while boarding for my flight had started! Last but not the least, food was quite decent. Loved the bowl - adequate quantity as well. Tacos were good, but nit worth for that kind of money! Bang average experience - I see why people still order there - long lines elsewhere and no other decent options available ! Try it at your own risk!

Yelp
Let's start with the general understanding that Midway doesn't have many good food options. Tallboy Taco is a continuation of that theme. I ordered at an automated kiosk (it's the only available way to order here or next door at Big Bowl). The kiosk process was fine, and I headed over to the food court to grab a seat--they're in demand right now around noon on a Thursday. The staff person called my name and I picked up my salad. It was a bed of lettuce with corn with chicken. It came with this "dressing" that is strangely chunky yet bland. On the whole, this salad tastes like air. Not like Colorado mountain air, but just regular degular air. They do give you a reasonable portion of chicken, though, and guacamole is included. That said, there was a hair in my food, so that wasn't great. It's food. Can't call it too much more than that.

Yelp
I came to this restaurant because it was one of the least busy places to eat. They were still busy but not as much as the others. I ordered two tacos (one al pastor and one chicken chimichurri), one chips with queso blanco, and one aqua fresca). Prices are expensive just because it's at an airport. I got my food pretty fast. I went to wait for my food and the employee called my name. She told me no more pork and if I would like chicken, shrimp, or fish instead. I chose fish. She made my tacos fast. She gave me chips with guacamole. The guacamole costed more than the queso blanco, but she gave me the guacamole no charge. She upgraded my drink for free. I got the mango. Only reason I gave 4 stars is because the mango drink was a bit too sour for my taste. Other than that, the customer service was fantastic. Employees went above and beyond for me. Food quality was good.

Yelp
It's trash in every sense. I can't be bothered to try any harder on this review, much like the employees with their bad attitudes couldn't be bothered to make decent food for the highway robbery prices.

Yelp
2 Stars = Could've been better. Did I eat the food? Yeah. Was it good? No. I ordered a salad bowl with shrimp and a side of chips. The station didn't even look like it was open because the counters looked bare and the line was empty (meanwhile the noodle storefront next to it was busy). Anyway, I was the only one ordering and it still kinda took longer than expected to get my food. The salad was mostly shredded lettuce and minimal toppings. However, the lady who made my food was so friendly! She asked me if I wanted cheese and made sure to give me extra. She also gave me extra salad dressings to go. I don't think I'll be back, but it was better than that chicken sandwich/tender place in the same terminal :(

Daniel A.

Yelp
The food here is pretty good. It's located at the far end of the food court. The fish tacos are very tasty. A little disappointed that they were out of chicken at 2 pm. Also out of napkins. Really!! For a food place you better be prepared & fully stocked for your customers. The lady behind the counter was a little rude. Like you can't even wait on a customer when you're not doing a damn thing but just standing there. Instead telling customers to use the Kiosk. The cook was very nice & accommodating.

Yelp
My first time at Midway Airport and tallboy taco is what I decided to get based on the menu online. Looked really good and there aren't as many options for food with it being under construction. You know what you were getting because of the prices were online which I appreciated. I mean, Hey, it's airport food. It's gonna be expensive either way. There was no line so I was able to order right away. So the first strike was they were out of one of the options that I wanted, the fish, so I decided to get a steak taco and a chicken chimicurri taco. They were also out of queso and chips so I skipped the side. It didn't take long to make and my order was called. I was able to take it and go back to my gate to eat. Third strike was they were out of their agua frescas. So overall they were out of things I wanted. The tacos were decent enough. I really enjoyed the chicken taco. It had a lot of good flavors in it. The chimicurri had great flavoring. The steak taco was a little too saucy. My double corn tortillas fell apart when I tried to eat it. They do put a lot of filling in their tacos so that's a plus. Two tacos were definitely enough for me. And you are allowed to mix and match your flavor of tacos which is plus for a special price instead of two separate prices . Once they have all of their stuff in stock , could definitely be a place to go when stopping at Midway.

Yelp
On travel passing through Chicago Midway Airport. Happened upon Tallboy Tacos just past the construction in concourse B. The tacos were ordered and prepared quickly. The staff was pleasant, professional and efficient. While they didn't have fish tacos they offered other tacos. The tacos were made with double corn tortillas and heaped with meat onions and cilantro and were delicious. If I am ever back in this airport I will try them again!

Yelp
If you're desperate for good food at Midway go find Tallboy Taco (not easy since Midway renovations got everything well-hidden). We got the crunchy fish and the crunchy shrimp tacos and bottled sodas. Then we had to trudge over to the sitting and eating section. But the tacos did the deed - fresh, spicy, filling. For airport food, they're doing okay - it's the renovations that drove us bonkers. But while the renovations continue, it's worth finding Tallboy Tacos!
google avatar

Yelp
Fish taco was horrible, no flavor, less than a squirt of Chimichurri sauce. The tortillas were hard as a rock, so it was super dry. The cheese quesadilla was just as bad. Whatever cheese they use, taste salty and like cardboard. Worst than Taco Bell, del taco, anything you consider bad, it's there.

Yelp
After doing diligent research on which food spot to to hit during my 4 hr early evening layover, I narrowed it down to the two Mexican spots at Midway. Cielo and Tallboy. I ended up choosing Mr. Tallboy since they had their prices shown on their menu... I liked that transparency; I didn't want to be surprised. I trekked what seemed like miles to the Central Market area and finally found it, tucked into the back of a hallway next to Big Bowls. At around 4:45pm on a weekday, this place was not crowded at all. The service was prompt and my food was out in under 5 minutes. I believe it was freshly made since it was warming up my hands on my walk back to the A gates. The tacos were fine. The carne asada was oily (saucey?) but that didn't really bother me. I appreciated how they loaded up on the onions. The rice and beans were pretty bland though, I'm not going to lie. I put them in my tacos and ate them together for more flavor. The green sauce was good - it basically carried the meal. It had a lil kick to it, but nothing too crazy. I wouldn't be opposed to going here again. It was the perfect portion size for me. The price was a bit ridiculous but what do you expect from an airport restaurant, right?

Yelp
Came here once before but my review was ousted since it was for a different Tallboy Taco. Here's another. Had a 7:30am layover in Chicago, and decided to give Tallboy Taco another chance. It was just ok. The line was long but quick, the service was pleasant, and the food was just meh. They have burritos and tacos with a section for breakfast including egg, bacon, and cheese, or steak, and all-day items for fish, chicken, steak, or a combo. The combo comes with rice and beans. Guacamole is an upcharge, and the tacos come in twos or threes. We got the three breakfast steak, egg, and cheese, and I let my kid have two of them. They were fine, but way too much oil was dripping out of them to be more enjoyable to me. They also have beer and other drinks. Ok place, but maybe not the best for you. $19 and some change for the three tacos and no drinks. The staff was surprised that I paid with cash! Next Day Update: My kid had some serious bathroom issues throughout the day. I had to drop one star to two total.

Yelp
No beef, no pork, no salad dressing! That was the message from the employees. We were really hungry getting off the plane and had a layover in Midway. We ordered a chicken salad. We needed something healthy. They did give us sour cream and guacamole to make up for the lack of salad dressing. Plenty of tables to choose from, although some of the tables were dirty from lack of cleaning. Let's just say the meal was healthy but nothing close to flavorful.

Yelp
Was trying to grab something to before my next flight and wanted to get a bite at Tallboy Taco. Four people in line before me, and after standing there for 10 minutes the person behind the counter told us we had to order using the kiosk to order. Only one kiosk was available because the other one was broken. The people before me had problems using the kiosk and after they walked away it was my time to use it. I was just going to order a chicken bowl and after trying severe times I gave up. The machine got locked up and didn't work. So I walked to the server behind the counter and asked if she could take my order. She told me she could not since she was the only one working there at the time. I she could not take my order. I saw several other people behind the counter at the time, so I could not understand why she would say that. Also there were other employees there, three black men, behind the counter. They were just eating food and drinking from the soda fountain and having a good time, talking and laughing. Absolutely didn't care about the customers. After I few more minutes watching the employees eating and drinking behind the counter I left and found somewhere else to buy food. Not only was a chicken bowl $17, holy cow, but the attitude and service horrible. Shame on you!!!!!

Adam B.

Yelp
I'm gonna try and be fair here. The food isn't that bad. I've actually had good food here before. With that being said and I don't say this lightly, this establishment has the worst customer service of all time. Every single person that I've ever encountered that works here (many) is a complete jerk. Horrible attitudes all the way around. It's one of a few food options here that is edible, so I don't have many options. But whoever owns this place, get your crap together and hire someone with a pulse.

Yelp
This is probably one of the better places to get food in midway. The prices are high - $16 for a steak bowl - but the food itself was decent and quite tasty. The pico de gallo came with some spicy peppers, which I appreciated; beware if you are a spice wimp! Portions are decent, service friendly, line and wait was a tad slow. Since Potbelly has left, this is probably my new go-to at the airport.
google avatar

Mallorie T.

Yelp
Wayy to many veggies, chicken was pretty dry and they were out of salsa. Bring form Texas there is a higher standard.
google avatar

Lindsey F.

Yelp
Al pastor tacos looked good but had little flavor, if it weren't for the onions and cilantro I would have thought I had Covid.
google avatar

Ta'keisha R.

Yelp
I was so happy to have spotted this place. I'm always in the mood for tacos and this place didn't disappoint. I ordered the crispy fish tacos with a side of queso and chips. My food was really good! Due to my onion allergy I didn't get to taste their slaw mix but the lettuce and cilantro was a great alternative. The staff was extremely accommodating and served my food with a smile. Highly recommend this place!

John R.

Yelp
The place *looks* nice from the facade, and quick-service Mexican (ala Chipotle/Qdoba types) are usually the go to for me for lunch/dinner at an airport, so I went and checked this place out. I completely regret doing so. The service (like most other outlets I've found at MDW) was terrible, and slow. Food took 15 minutes to come out and we were the only ones here. "Fast food" by the way. Employees showed no people skills and were on their phones instead of preparing food. The tacos are extremely overpriced ($20 for 3 tacos). I understand you pay more at an airport, but even so, that is absurd pricing. But hey, if they're good and tasty, maybe it will be worth it, right? Welp, this was absolutely NOT good. The tacos had zero flavor and were completely bland. They were also luke-warm, and small. It feels like a complete ripoff and joke. Paying that much, you'd expect at least food with decent taste. I've had better tasting food at Taco Bell at 1/5th the price. Another bad MDW restaurant that should be avoided at all costs.
google avatar

Angela M.

Yelp
Reasonably priced chicken quesadilla and I was able to get condiments too for less than $10. Easy ordering process and the line moved quickly. The staff that was calling out the food was friendly too, they just didn't seem to know who was getting what food. They told me they accidentally made me a steak quesadilla but it was actually another customers. You provide your name at ordering. No big deal for me because they did make me a chicken, they just were getting mixed up. Overall I'd definitely stop by here again when I fly back into Midway.
google avatar

Ryan C.

Yelp
It's 5pm and you're out of chips and quesadillas. The menu isn't big enough to run out of these key components. Then I ordered a fountain soda because they were out of bottles and the cashier said, "It's out of the syrup and I'd have to go to the back to change it". Figure it out Tallboy Taco, this ain't rocket science! If you don't want to be in business vacate the space and put another restaurant in here that actually wants to serve customers.
google avatar

John F.

Yelp
BACON! Came by this place on a Sunday morning 7 o'clock. Service was just fine, didn't take long to order, and my food came out within three or four minutes. So despite what other people have experienced I had quick service, no complaints. Back to service in a moment... As for the food, I ordered a burrito bowl. More scrambled egg then I anticipated, or ham potatoes, and WOW THAT BACON. Apple smoked, or brown sugar cured, whatever it was, cooked wonderfully and super flavor. Not wimpy, fatty, or cheap....seemed like high and bacon. Made the meal! Value proposition is acceptable for this airport, which has a dearth of options (bowl was $15 with tax). Back to surface, Marcie was a can-do cheerful person. I asked for a cup of hot water, and she quickly offered to go into the back to get one for me. Didn't blink or bat an eye, just smiled and said "I can do that for you." I appreciate that attitude, so hats off to Marcie!
google avatar

Killian F.

Yelp
Had the Al pastor tacos and they were a total disappointment. They were dry, overcooked garbage.
google avatar

N Y.

Yelp
Compared to DeColores, it's a larger portion but less veggies and flavor. You also have to wait for your food, albeit just a few minutes. I had the Grilled Chicken Bowl ($15) with chicken chimichurri, rice, and pico, no beans or cheese. Tasted bland, pico seemed old, and rice was mushy. If you like meat and no veggies, then I guess Tallboy Taco would be an okay choice for you.
google avatar

Mary Z.

Yelp
The line was long last night, but it went quickly. I chose a very simple meal--two chicken chimichurri tacos. The tortillas held their shape well, and the chicken was slightly dry, but tasty. A lot of chicken was packed into those two tortillas. I thought $9.89 was a good airport price for what I got. The service was polite, though not particularly friendly, and my food was ready within 60 seconds of placing my order. They are credit/debit only. Standard airport fare, and I will probably go again the next time I'm at Midway.
google avatar

Vivian H.

Yelp
Got two chicken tacos for $11.05 after tax, which for the airport, is reasonably priced compared to the $10 sandwich you'd get at true place that sells snacks. The food was quick, comes with a lime wedge and green or red salsa. I asked whether I could get both and she mentioned you can only get one! Taste was alright- did the job!
google avatar

Mike S.

Yelp
The food was OK but the service had a lot to be desired. I patiently waited 15 minutes for my name to be called. Finally I asked about my order and only then did they start to prepare it. No apologies. I highly recommend someplace else.
google avatar

Mike M.

Yelp
I was traveling through the Midway airport and wanted a light lunch. I chose fish and chicken tacos. I had the thee mixed taco meal. If you decide to eat here choose fish tacos over chicken. The fish tacos had better flavor and the guacamole sauce was good.
google avatar

Ben E.

Yelp
Got a breakfast burrito. they didn't heat up the tortilla. It was cold out of the fridge.
google avatar

Dre' M.

Yelp
I was not greeted verbally at all upon standing there for service for several minutes in a slow airport. After I was done with the staring contest I proceeded to say "good morning and how is your day going". No response received. I asked for the breakfast steak tacos and was told "no steak"... I had just received this persons two words to break the silence. No steak? "We have just chicken". Well then ok I will have that. I ordered coffees and said thank you and was on my way. To the taco building part and by the time I was there the tacos were built without condiment. When I asked about salsa, guacamole and sour cream I was told that it was extra. Well why didn't they tell me that before I paid?? Very dissatisfied and disappointed with both the service, quality and service. This is not the first time for me at this location but it will be the last.
google avatar

Lance B.

Yelp
Giving this 4 stars in the context of it being airport food. I got the grilled chicken bowl with guac which came out to about $20. Was actually pretty decent and incredibly filling. Would prefer to spend $20 on this than a shi**y burger and fries.

Jessie G.

Yelp
Food is ok for airport food. Definitely bigger portions than other airport restaurants. 2 tacos with Rice and Beans was enough for me. I ordered the chicken and steak tacos at the recommendation of the cashier. I got both. Chicken was under seasoned - maybe just more salt and lime would've been ok. But it wasn't overly dry or anything, so that's a plus. Black beans were definitively under seasoned. Steak taco was pretty alright; I would order this one again but try something else instead of the chicken. Just wish they had more veggies to top the tacos with. But less veg does usually mean more room for meat, and they don't skimp in meat. The hot salsa verde is pretty ok. Wish I had been able to get more of it without having to pay, but I used jt responsibly.
google avatar

Ceal P.

Yelp
Got to the airport early and needed a late breakfast option before getting on a 3 hr flight.. tall boy delivered! Got the breakfast burrito with egg, cheese, bacon, pick, potatoes and it hit the spot. Comes with green and red salsa. SO and I shared it so it was pretty big. Really hit the spot! With tax comes in at $16.50 which sounds standard for airport prices. They are revamping all the food options in the old mdw food court. This is a great option!
google avatar

Dana R.

Yelp
The service here was so bad we didn't even bother ordering food. We walked up, had to greet the girl at the counter and she was clearly miserable about life. Meanwhile, six or seven other employees sat there and yelled and laughed at each other so loudly we couldn't hear the girl tell us the first time that they were basically out of half of the menu options. Whoever is in management or ownership of this place needs to get it together.
google avatar

Amol U.

Yelp
Awful service. Order took 30-plus min. to fulfill, which is unacceptable for a fast food location at an airport. Ended up having to leave without getting the food I ordered in order to make my flight. Some of this is on the management. This place is way understaffed. That being said, the staff also weren't setting expectations right. I was quoted a wait time of ~10-15 min, which was a laughably inaccurate estimate. They also were fulfilling orders by an order number system, skipped mine, and yet insisted "We haven't gotten to it yet" while calling numbers at least 8-10+ ahead? If you make a mistake, or if another customer picks up the wrong order, at least own it and promptly resolve the error. And if you know it'll be a while (30 min. for fast food is NOT normal) let people know when ordering, so they can decide if they have the bandwidth for that.

Anu B.

Yelp
I wish there was a zero star option! The food is as bad as the attitude of the employees. Disgusting food! Don't even bother trying!

Mike B.

Yelp
Pretty brutal. Second time through and they are out of chips and carne asada at 11:30 am. It wouldn't be so bad, I do travel at peak periods, but they make no effort to tell people ahead of time. To compound matters, they yell at you if you don't use the kiosk and the kiosk allows you to buy things that are not available. If you have the technology to use a kiosk you should be able to limit the items it sells. The workers are super rude, you are occupying their time, don't be confused on that. The only reason they get any stars is because the food is actually great.
google avatar

Nathan B.

Yelp
Biggest ripoff at an airport I've ever seen. 12 bucks for slop tasteless chicken, cilantro and onions. Please don't stop here.
google avatar

Jesse S.

Yelp
Very poor customer service. Ordered at 3:15 pm with no line. The woman taking my order appeared annoyed and seemed inconvenienced when I asked a simple question that wasn't on the menu. I was wondering why she was in such a hurry to get me through the line and then saw she had to tend to her phone after my order.... Save your money. Also, the food is beige.
google avatar

Steven S.

Yelp
Worst breakfast burrito of my life. It was soggy and wet, while also cold. Customer service was okay at the register, but long wait for the food. Avoid if possible.
google avatar

Mallory P.

Yelp
nasty attitude from everyone that works here. yelled at the guest in front of me RIGHT after the menu board changed from breakfast to lunch menu. i went to order chips and queso (on the lunch menu board!) and was told rudely "we don't have that." girl its on the lunch menu what do you mean you don't have that???? wanted to support a LEYE establishment in the airport, but these girls need to get their attitude in check ASAP its disgusting

Janice N.

Yelp
Food is as bad the the attitude of workers. Overpriced garbage. Bland and tasteless. This airport has seriously gone downhill for food options. Gone are the great places like Pegasus and Potbelly's. Such a shame.

Jane S.

Yelp
Horrific experience. The workers were incredibly rude. Tried to order veggies and was told I couldn't do that. So I ordered a Salad- it was horrible.

M N.

Yelp
Customer service was poor. Four employees stood around chatting with their backs to the cash register. I ordered the chicken tacos. The chicken was very dry and mostly flavorless. The tortillas were also flavorless. The side of rice and beans was adequate.
google avatar

Hannah B.

Yelp
This is a tall taco place with a midget stingy joke of a carne asada tacos $17.00 for 3 but I got 2 for $11.00 plus one extra cap of salsa no more, cost extra... the staff talk down to you even though I asked respectfully... not recommended I KNOW this is an airport but this is more like highway robbery OH did I say the rice and beans are extra each scoop $3.75 too... I didn't taste it so I can't say but the carne asada was the worst and I should know better than to stop here. Tough tough tough business to be in but staff should be nice at least!

Yelp
Sign says open until 10. The workers are screaming at people walking up that they're closed now. We don't care what the sign says. Horrid customer service.

Yelp
I ordered the shrimp tacos because they were out of fish tacos. Ask for sour cream instead of the guacamole that they squirt from a bottle. That guacamole is super spicy and will burn your lips off. The ladies who were working did not offer the exchange and I would've taken their advice if they had warned me about how spicy the tacos were.

Yelp
Good tacos especially for airport food. Staff was nice. A bit too pricey and they seemed to be out of a lot of stuff by the end of the day. Overall would recommend the food though.
