We went for my birthday at the recommendation of my daughter, and had a lovely dinner. For appetizers, we ordered the tuna crudo and tomato and garlic loaf, both delicious and fresh. For entrees, I had the Berkshire pork chop, my husband had the seafood cannelloni, and we shared the honey sriracha Brussels sprouts. My husband isn’t a huge fan of Brussels sprouts, but he thought these were the best he ever had. Both entrees were perfectly prepared and beautifully presented. For dessert, we shared the Italian lemon cakes, which was light enough for the conclusion of a big meal. A big shout out to our server Mike and his team. Service was friendly and attentive without being intrusive, and we never felt rushed. I highly recommend Tallulah!

Tallulah is an absolute gem! We come here every month and everytime the experience gets better & better! The food was delicious, the atmosphere was beautiful, and the service was truly exceptional. Our waiter, Brandon, made the entire experience amazing. He was attentive, friendly, and gave the best recommendations that we loved. We left so happy and satisfied—can’t wait to come back! Highly recommend Tallulah, especially if you’re lucky enough to have Brandon as your server!

Was pleasantly surprised by the food and service. I had pretty low expectations due to multiple weird experiences with their hostesses in past years who were unfriendly and unaccommodating. Service was amazing- we had Trey and Mike. The manager came by a few times to ask how everything was and if the sun was too bright since we were by the window, which was nice. We tried the watermelon salad special, feta phyllo, spicy rigatoni, lemon cake and strawberry cheesecake. Everything was good. I will definitely return try the cacio e Pepe next time. I definitely recommend making a reservation. Every time I’ve tried to walk in they say it’s fully booked despite there being multiple tables. Atmosphere was lively - could probably use a design update IMO but nothing crazy.

4.33/5 Food was delicious. I was excited coming in because I saw that lamb pappardelle was on the menu as it's easily a top 5 recipe for me. Tallulah knocked it out of the park between how obvious it is that the pasta's made from scratch, the tenderness of the lamb, and then the flavor of the sauce was simply spectacular. Everybody enjoyed the beet salad and burrata that we started with as well. Service was good throughout our courses, but we did feel that we were being rushed out towards the end.

Tallulah was a high-end dining experience set in a cramped New York restaurant complete with a celebrity sighting. Everything was delish made even better by the service. We had the Brussels Sprouts appetizer, the peanuts elevated this dish. Also, the mushroom ravioli, Amish chicken, and linguini with chicken was awesome. Side note, I ordered the parsnip soup. I have never had parsnips before. It was prepared well, creamy. I did not enjoy it. It was too new for me.

Talulah Wine Bar in Birmingham impressed. The blackened Faroe Island salmon was crisp outside, tender inside, paired with jasmine rice and papaya mango salad. The white chocolate semifreddo tart with caramel, berries, and mint was light and elegant. Warm service and a relaxed, upscale vibe made for a memorable meal.

We had a yummy meal where we bought a bunch of plates and shared it all! Our server was attentive and brought both still and sparkling water which was a nice touch. We sat outdoors so I can't speak on the interior of the restaurant but the patio was perfect for us to enjoy the great weather! Like I said in the photo, I am still DREAMING of the burrata salad. It was creamy and flavorful and just perfect! I wanted to take an order to go and just might have if I wasn't so full lol. Definitely a must-try!! There are so many delicious options on the menu and from the looks of it, it's a rotating seasonal menu which means the ingredients are fresh and delicious! I'd go back again if I'm even in Birmingham, Michigan again. I'd probably drive an hour or two for the burrata salad alone haha. Seriously though. Get the burrata.

We ordered the burrata salad to start... the pesto it's on top of is so delicious and bursting with flavor! Next we did the pasta... we added the grated truffles on top and it was such a great addition so we each ordered ANOTHER round of pasta! The porterhouse was served medium rare which is perfect for our taste... if it's not mooing still then we don't want it (just kidding). The fries are honestly the best fried potato I've had. We got an Italian lemon cake for dessert and it was served with blueberries. The best lemon cake ever! So moist, nice cream in the middle and the blueberries top it off! We celebrated our 1 year anniversary and coincidentally our wedding cake was a lemon cake with custard and berries in the middle, so it was a great way to end the evening! Brandon was a great server!

Classic Birmingham restaurant. Food was good overall and had a nice bottle of Pinot Noir. My favorite food was the feta appetizer. The duck confit risotto was good but a little salty. The steak frites were also tasty with a chimichurri sauce but was a little tough to eat. We sat in the side room so the ambiance was a little muted. The main room had a lot more energy. Our service was solid and the waiter gave us a good wine recommendation!

What a fantastic Happy Hour menu! I was in the area and met up with a friend! We had a great time at the bar ordering a few items off the Happy Hour menu. Great selection of food, drink and always the best staff!

Had an amazing time at Tallulah. It was my first time and it did not disappoint. I was meh about this place knowing it was a white tablecloth kind of fancy vibe, but all of the food was delicious. The ambiance isn't anything special, but our waiter was so nice helpful and attentive. The arancini balls were so good and a very generous size. Both the pastas we ordered had a lot of flavor as well as the fries and burrata, YUM!

One of my favorite Italian restaurants in metro Detroit, the ambiance is unmatched with the beautiful branches hanging from the ceiling and soft romantic lighting. This is our second time eating here and the food is always phenomenal. We started with the delicious burrata and then ordered the filet and shrimp bucatini with rosemary fries!

First time at Tallulah's! So disappointed! Beet salad BLAh! Had the Lamb Ragu and the noodles were the size of lasagna not pappardelle! No Lamb in it at all! My husband had the Duck confit! Tasteless! Only thing good was the Italian wine we had! Super shocked for this so called upscale restaurant in Birmingham! The manager did offer another meal, but the appetite was no longer there. Do not understand what the attraction is here! Certainly isn't the food!

For appetizers, the mushroom special stole the show with its rich flavors and enticing aroma. Each bite was a burst of earthy goodness, but i wish it was a larger portion. The burrata salad was a delightful blend of creamy cheese, vibrant tomatoes, and peppery arugula. While perfectly balanced, I found myself longing for more lettuce, especially with the freshness of the arugula making it a standout. We also ordered the Cesar salad, which was very nontraditional. It had nice sweet notes from the strawberries highly recommend. Moving on to the main courses, the halibut mushroom in parchment paper impressed with its moist, tender texture and well-balanced seasoning. However, I couldn't help but feel that it lacked a complementary starch element to round out the dish. The whole branzino was a testament to freshness, it was delicate and devoid of any unpleasant fishiness. The addition of lemon provided a welcomed brightness, adding depth to each bite. While the spicy orecchiette had promise, it fell short of expectations in terms of heat. Nevertheless, its flavors were pleasant, albeit lacking the fiery kick I had anticipated. As for the Brussels sprouts, they boasted a flavorful profile, but their texture left something to be desired; a crispier exterior would have elevated the dish. Overall this is one of the best restaurant in the area. The restaurant is very well decorated. The staff was very kind and respectful. We look forward to coming back and exploring more of the menu

Everything here was beyond amazing.! Including the bartender Chelsea ;) it was my first time here but definitely not my last.!!!! My boyfriend had the lamb ragu & I had the spicy rigatoni omg 12/10 for both.!!!!

I made my reservation through Opentable and put notes that I wanted to sit somewhere quieter for a work social meeting. (Needed to talk about a wedding project I was working on). ANNNNNDDDD They sat me right next to the kitchen, closest to the bar. Granted the restaurant was a full house on a Wednesday evening so it was loud. Even if I didn't have planning in mind, I felt like I had to shout just to talk. Irritating at first, but a bottle of wine in, I became more lax. When I choose restaurants like Tallulah, I go because I know they will have good food which means a great experience. But I really and truly didn't appreciate my waiter stopping by my table to let his presence known as often as he did. His hand was waving all around my face when he was describing the specials and wine. Each time he stopped by, he overstayed after interrupting. This was even AFTER I personally said I was here to meet with my clients for the first time. I would love for Tallulah to change up how they announce the specials. I like to read the specials to think about how the flavor profiles would work and see what kind of wine I would like to pair my food with. Hearing a waiter shout through the chaos, not understanding how much things cost without repetition seems to take the class out of the experience. I also had to bring up my plates to the SA because the plates were overcrowded and the dining pace was removed from the equation. Overall the food was great. MY GOD was the scallops deliciously prepared. But the service? The service needed help on all accounts. From the host reading the reservation notes, to the waiter learning how to read the table to the SA/waiter/EXPO seeing how guests react after their entrees are delivered. I will be back again for the food on perhaps a more social setting but the FOH logistics needs some work for reservations similar to mine.

Headed to Tallulah for a business dinner while in Birmingham. The weather was a perfect summer evening so we sat on the patio. Food was absolutely delicious. We ordered a few dishes to share with the table. Brought our own two bottles of wine and the waiter was gracious enough to only charge us for one $35 corkage fee. Definitely adding this to my list to visit when I return

Four years later and still a five star experience. Food was complete perfection. I even forgive the freezing air conditioning. Why did I wait so long to return?

The food and ambiance at Tallulah's was amazing as always, but it was Brandon who put our experience over the top. He was attentive and personable without being pretentious. Cannot say enough about the service.

Terrible communication and service skills. Called about a reservation and they transferred me. The person who picked up just goes were fully committed and hung up. Though ok. At the exact time I wanted a reservation I walk by and see a completely empty patio. I made a comment and she said patio is first come first serve. Would have been nice if the hostess who answered told me that instead of rudely hanging up. Needless to say won't be visiting with or without a reservation after that display of poor customer service.

Highly recommend for a date or ladies night! The steak was amazing; my husband is an excellent cook and grills the perfect steaks, so we often don't order steaks out because they are never as good and 3x as expensive - but this steak was phenomenal and so worth it. The mushroom ravioli with truffle goat cheese and truffle oil was fantastic as well. I think my favorite may have been the burrata salad! We were happy with everything we ordered. I also highly recommend the Sancerre! A delicious wine (although if you don't want to spend $20/glass do yourself a favor and grab a bottle from Total Wine!). We sat outside and had fantastic service, we loved our server and she gave us great recommendations and insights. It was a beautiful evening and a great way to end the week!

I've heard good things about this place for a while now, and recently got the opportunity to dine there with friends who live within walking distance. I had the house salad (very good, but basic), and the Lamb Ragu Pappardelle, featuring house-made pasta, poached egg, and parmigiano reggiano. It was excellent. My wife had the Branzino, served with charred zucchini, romesco, cilantro, capers, and gremolata (parsley, garlic and lemon zest). It was also nicely done. Our table-mates had the Lamb Chop, served with chickpea veloute, roasted marble potato, and crispy mint. They said it was excellent. Despite the place being very crowded (reservations are recommended), the service was attentive and friendly. Our waiter was well-prepared to answer all questions regarding the dishes. I would note that the tables are pretty close together (my interior photo was a stock photo pulled off of the web because of that fact). With a glass of wine, an appetizer and an entree, one should expect to spend $70. - $100. per pOverall a great experience. There is also a dining area out front outside.

Cozy place in downtown Troy. A small but diverse menu with what appear to be seasonal offerings. Few vegetarian options, but our waiter was very accommodating. As a counterpoint to the usual eye-rolling or "Well, we have some pasta..." he offered a very good choice. The kitchen was very accommodating and put together a very good risotto with vegetables. It was tasty, filling, and a welcome departure from usual choices in restaurants that don't cater to vegetarians. Rant over :) Tallulah has an exceptional wine list. Something for everyone at different price points. Ask the sommelier and step outside your comfort zone.

Food was amazing per usual! Wanted to shout out Chelsea for making the experience extra special. She is so sweet and kind and always willing to go the extra mile!

Very accommodating after my expressed concern about an overdriven subwoofer in the bar (music level was at appropriate background volume). Reseated us elsewhere and had outstanding service and a wonderful meal.

Overall, my husband and I enjoyed our experience! We sat at the bar for happy hour - food was delicious, the service was quick and we were well taken care of. I liked the bar ambiance better than the rest of the restaurant (I'm not a tablecloth kind of taste), but it was a nice dining environment.

Pastas and appetizers were great. I ordered the New York Strip and it was overcooked and barely seasoned.

Enjoyed some delicious food with some friends. The service was great, our server was on top of things, super knowledgeable, and funny. The main room isn't too large, but it had a cool vibe, they also extended across the hall to a larger room, I'd be interested is scoping that side out next time I go. Overall great experience. We were also there late, and nobody rushed us to leave, which was nice!

4-ish years later so time to update this review - I finally came here for a sit-down meal with my boyfriend and some Yelp friends tonight, for restaurant week. We had a reservation for 7pm, and were not seated until 7:30pm. This wasn't the restaurant's fault - the people who had been seated at 4:30pm and 5pm didn't leave until 7:30pm. However, they apologized profusely for it and also sent over a complimentary charcuterie board, which was nice of them. I ordered the kale salad, the steak frites, and the sorbet trio. The salad was tasty and had dried cranberries in it; however, I took a sip of my boyfriend's butternut squash soup and I liked that a little better than the salad. I asked for my steak to be cooked medium rare and it was practically moo-ing at me ... the inside of it was very red (aka rare). I probably should have asked for it to be cooked a little longer (and the waiter did ask if I wanted that, later, but I had already eaten 2/3 of it) but I didn't. It had a nice char on the top and also some sort of sauce, but other than that was a little bland; it could have used more salt. The frites were standard but came with a nice aioli, as well as ketchup (I'm not a ketchup eater). For dessert, half of us ordered the namelaka, which came served in a wine glass, and the rest of us ordered the sorbet. The sorbet was light and refreshing, and came in cactus pear (interesting!), mango, and pomegranate champagne flavors. The pomegrante champagne was melting fast by the time we received it. I liked the namelaka better, but I was trying to be good tonight and avoid dairy, hence why I ordered the sorbet; the namelaka was very chocolate-y and rich. Service was good here and I never had to ask for my water to be refilled, as well. Overall I'd give Tallulah maybe 3 or 3.5 stars this time around. I liked all the food but I can't say there was anything I LOVED. The restaurant is very cute and small and has a nice vibe, so I wouldn't mind returning, although it probably would have to be during restaurant week, as the prices are definitely "Birmingham prices" otherwise.

This was my first visit here and I can't wait to come back. I had the octopus, broccolini and lamb chops. Charred octopus that was perfectly cooked with a unthought of flavor combinations that should have made it a meal not an appetizer. The lamb chops were perfectly cooked, tender with lots of flavor. The broccolini with peanut butter and pine nuts was well seasoned and complimented my lamb chops. Overall a pleasant eating and dining experience in downtown Birmingham.

Noise - way too much - couldn't hear my guests 2 seats away. Temp - way too cold. Some interesting cocktails. But they couldn't make an appletini. Menu good, service mostly good - but had to search for server a few times. Food was pretty good - but some issues - octopus was pretty small, pastas well done - salmon dish very bland - deserts ok.,I'd rate the food a 3 1/2, service a 3 1/2- ambiance a 1. The noise level was such that I couldn't wait to leave - given it was early dinner mid-week, I was surprised at that.

By far my FAVORITE restaurant in Birmingham. The food is PERFECT! Andrew the bartender for over 12 years and Chelsea are made for this restaurant! They are very attentive and professional with a cool charm. Again another small but perfect size restaurant tucked on the side street with white table clothes and phenomenal service. Please try the Branzino and Don't forget the French fries and grilled octopus.

The first time I tried Tallulah was several years ago and it has definitely improved. The menu is great, service is great, and food is pretty good. I actually went Friday and Saturday last weekend. On Friday I ordered the octopus and lamb ragu. My boyfriend had the brisket. We got the cheesecake for dessert. The octopus was phenomenal. My lamb ragu was pretty good, but the pasta was definitely overcooked. I had a bite of the brisket and didn't want anymore. There wasn't any flavor-- not good. The cheesecake was super yummy. On Saturday we came back (mostly for the octopus lol). We got the octopus again, a village salad, and I ordered the cacio e pepe pasta this time and my boyfriend got the seafood risotto. We ordered the cheesecake again. The octopus was even better on this day, they added more toppings. The village salad was also really good, but also impossible to mess up. I really liked how fresh all of the ingredients were. My pasta was overcooked again. The flavor was good, but I just don't like overcooked pasta and I would expect it to be al dente at a nice restaurant like this. My boyfriend really enjoyed the risotto, although it was very heavy. I tried it and I thought it was okay. The cheesecake was really good again. Both days we got a bottle of rose for a great price. Both servers were phenomenal. On Friday we had Lucia, she's great and such a sweetheart. On Saturday we actually had the sommelier and he was phenomenal too. Would definitely return. Reservations are highly recommended!!

Stopped by for a cocktail and dessert after having dinner elsewhere. We wish we had dinner here instead of the other place we went. Espresso martini was delicious and the lemon cake was unbelievable. Our bartender was great and we more than enjoyed her recommendation for dessert. We will definitely be back.

Let me start by saying, around 2010-2012 Tallulah was THE spot. I've had the good fortune of getting to know Mindy Lopus, the original owner, and working with Sylvia Rector at DFP for years Tallulah & Bella Piatti were frequent conversation. When she was the owner of both restaurants, things were beautiful. Wine lists were thoughtful, paired perfectly with introspective food menus. The atmosphere was genuine, it was the type of place I always had to visit at least 2-3 times when I rolled through town, not only for the wine and food but also for the friendly and quality service (and often stories from Mindy and her husband). These days things seem to be different. I enjoy going in and seeing that same Sangiovese vine that Mindy put on the wall all those years ago, and she is no longer the owner but I find myself wishing she was. Pairings: I had the pleasure of speaking with their somm, nice enough guy and I didn't tell him I was a level 3, but he did try to hard sell me on higher glass pour Chardonnays claiming they pair better with entrees/apps when it's all subjective. Quite pushy (arrogance is a popular trait for sommeliers). For the octopus we went with the Sancerre, Charles Debourges, 2021, worked really well with the whipped feta and herbs, fun citrus notes enhanced by lemon emulsion. Lamb Chops - Went with the Sichel, Red Bordeaux Blend. The roasted marble potato and mint worked well with the dark fruit and medium body. Fair accompaniment for the lamb, it was a bit over cooked and would've worked even better if it was more in the rare side. Overall, the service was okay. Our server was particularly nice, and her wine service was almost perfect. I wish I could say the same fun, clean, genuine efforts Mindy made to keep Tallulah around was still there, but it seems the new owner(s) might just be in it for a buck. N. H. DFP. Food Critic. Service was average at best. My friend ordered a glass of white wine and asked for a glass of ice separate with it. Our waiter did not bring it initially when he brought our drinks so she politely asked again. He clearly ignored it or forgot and waited on other tables. He then comes back to tell us about the specials for the evening and she is reaching in her water glass right in front of him and he doesn't say or do anything. At the end of his speech she asks again for a glass of ice. Again he doesn't bring anything. Finally, we call attention to someone else and of course that is when our waiter realizes his mistake and brings her ice. OK, way too late. We had the tomato, arugula, feta appetizer which was just OK. As was everything honestly. The steak we ordered as medium came out well done. The chicken had no flavor. And the pasta was layered in cheese. Unfortunately this is another Birmingham restaurant that gets by with their reputation and ambiance. You can find better food and service.

Totally happening spot. The truffle mushroom ravioli was absolutely delicious. Also, tried the branzino, filet, NY stop and watermelon salad. Everything. Was well prepared and tasty! Highly recommend for an evening out.

This was my first experience here (3/13/24 at around 7ish) . My friend and I came for drinks and some apps after dinner to celebrate my birthday. We pass by all the time and thought it would be a nice experience...but it was not. We asked to sit at the bar as to not take up a table, and the bartender (Shelby?) made our experience uncomfortable. There was no greeting, she seemed irritated and it showed. My friend wasn't sure if she wanted to drink more since she was driving and we asked if she had any mocktails, she looked visibly annoyed and quickly said "you have to be 21 to sit at the bar"...I am 32 and my friend is 27. It was a strange jump and we felt so unwelcome. We showed her our IDs and carried on but she never brought the wine list that she offered and I agreed to see. I had to ask her again for it and remember, we had just had dinner so we were thinking of a night cap or dessert... so I ordered a dessert wine and her first statement was "that's a dessert wine" and just stared at me. It was awkward and there was a silence. She just seemed to treat us like we didn't know anything, that we were stupid. It was so weird. I nodded and then she said "it's a smaller pour..." and I knew that since dessert wines are usually 2 oz, and a standard glass is around 6 oz but at that point I was irritated. My friend decided to get a drink and I just got what she got. My friend agreed that these interactions seemed almost hostile and we were both uncomfortable. We ordered 3 sides and ate quickly because we just wanted to leave. It took us off guard the way the bartender treated us. Not to mention the food runner bringing us our side of fries and patting me on the back saying "ah you like your fries huh? Second plate" like what the hell? I'm not sorry to leave this review because why is it so hard to have kind professional service? Don't judge people, don't assume they're stupid, and don't touch guests and comment on their orders. It was really disappointing. Especially for Birmingham. Some advice- 1. learn how to talk to your guests. She could have said "sometimes we just need a mocktail, but I do need to see your ID because you ladies look youthful" instead of back handedly "you need to be 21 to sit here" like wtf. 2. And if there are guests under 21 say "I wish I could serve you here but 21 is the age minimum for the bar top. We can grab you a table tho" 3. If you want to be proactive and make sure a guest understands a pour, (not sure why you would assume they didn't understand what they're ordering unless you're judging them) but you can say "awesome so a (insert oz here) pour for you and a (insert oz here) pour for you. Or she could have just not said anything since I didn't ask and she could have just served it normally. 4. Do not touch the guests. Seriously? Do I need to explain that? The bartender was just rude. She treated us with annoyance attitude. Idk what her problem was but that needs to be addressed. The food runners/staff shouldn't touch the guests. It was a disappointing and unfortunately uncomfortable experience.

I came here for dinner with my husband and parents. The space is beautiful but I agree that the noise level is really high. I felt like I had to repeat everything I said all night which by the end of the evening had me on edge. That said the service and food were really good. The Village Salad was excellent. I have no idea where they got such good tomatoes this time of year but kudos to them. The cacio e pepe pasta could have used more pepper (it actually tasted like there was no pepper in it at all) but was still good. My husband loved the carrot soup and said the lamb ragout pasta was great. Four stars rather than five because of the bland cacio e pepe, noise level and the kitchen being pretty slow; so slow that our server came over to say our entrees would be out shortly but it still took close to another ten minutes before they arrived. I would definitely return and take a table outside since I think the noise level would be more bearable. The Village Salad alone is worth coming back for!

Always a favorite go to when I feel like seeing and being seen. Bartenders always wonderful. Love bellying up to eat here if you are lucky enough to get a seat.

I've been a fan for a long time for the good cuisine, professional service, decor, cleanliness but I must call them out for the $30 raw oyster appetizer. They were literally nickel size bites (not an exaggeration) when oysters are always a mouthful. Even this far away from the ocean that was bad.

The snoot factor is high here. Hostess and owner was Non friendly and kept us waiting once we were seated although they were not busy. Staff was chatting and standing around talking, so after 10 minutes of no one approaching us, we got up and left. We will never return.

This was the 3rd time I've been to Tallulah and it's never disappointed. It's a upper scale Italian restaurant but they have so much more than just Italian food. The waiters are always so knowledgable and can describe the menu in and out with ease. They also have a great little area on the sidewalk for outdoor seating. A great place for a romantic date. In addition they have an extensive wine and cocktail list. The waiters are happy to make a recommendation to go with your order. For an appetizer we had the grilled octopus, topped with cherry tomatoes and feta. Delicious. I had the lamb ragu for dinner, really tasty and was plated beautifully. The ingredients in the sauce were so fresh and vibrant while the lamb was cooked perfectly and had a little texture. I will be coming back for sure.

We had a 7:30 reservation on a Thursday night. I had the Tallulah sour which was very delicious and strong. We both ordered the scallops special and it was out in what felt like five minutes of when we ordered which I felt was extremely fast. We ended up ordering a dessert because the meal came out so quickly. I was with a friend, but based on the speed of bringing out our entree after we only had one sip of our drinks I am not sure if this would be a good date night experience.

This place has its ups and down. First off, the ambiance is amazing. The service is also very good and they are very accommodating to all. I love my waiter, he gave us a wonderful presentation of the food. The food was also presented wonderfully, as you can see from pictures but I'm not sure if the food is worth the price. You're paying more for the experience than food.

This restaurant was very beautiful. Our waiter was very nice and welcoming. I ordered the kale salad and it was amazing, I was not a fan of the chicken that I had added. The dessert was very yummy and delicious

This was definitely my worst dining experience in Metro Detroit of all time. It all started horribly with the interaction with the hostess. When we arrived, the host stand is situated so that the hostess was back to us, and we didn't even know if she worked there because she was poorly dressed for a restaurant of the caliber, cropped t-shirt and all. We had a reservation and asked if she worked there because it was unclear. She was short and rude, including telling us "can you move so I can get the menus?" After being seated on an unnecessarily crowded dining room with some of the smoke from the kitchen hanging over it because of a poorly-working or off hood, our server arrived and was initially pleasant. I asked for a bourbon list, and he handed me an electronic tablet with the list. The first four bourbons I ordered weren't in stock, defeating the purpose of an electronic list that can be updated immediately, without requiring re-printing. Each time he came back and said "unfortunately, we're out of....." He then suggested it may just be easier to send over the bartender. I chose to just go up to the bar and look until I found something in stock. We had a 6 person party. So, I ordered appetizers for the table and wasn't told that some of them couldn't be easily divided, so everyone could try them. It's a small service error, but one that shouldn't occur at the supposed level of the restaurant. The server tried to then take our menus, even though we hadn't ordered and then said "you want bread?" What he eventually brought out can only be descibed as bad hotel banquet rolls that were stale, along with the smallest amount of whipped margarine. He disappeared for too long to ask for enough to cover the 6 rolls. The appetizers were decent, but nothing spectacular by any means. I ordered the burrata and grilled peach salad and the "korean bbq pork chop with rice pudding". The server said that the chef recommended the pork be served medium to medium rare. Medium rare is odd for pork, but I agreed to have it as the chef suggested. My burrata salad was a large portion of burrata and a few wedges of grilled peaches that were so hard that I needed a steak knife to saw through them and a ring of toasted bread that was way undersized for the mountain of burrata. When my pork chop arrived, it was sliced, which made it easy to see that it was very well done, not medium or medium rare, and the "rice pudding" was bland sticky rice with a few untoasted peanuts and scallions on it. The sauce was about as korean bbq as Applebee's too. Because I was with a client, I just suffered through, even with the server trying to take my plate away twice, while I was still eating. We ordered a few desserts to share, mostly to see what the Sacher cake with "blackberries red wine confit" would be, since neither have fat, so there's no way they could be confit (cooked in their own fat by definition). At that point, I ordered an iced tea, only for the server to tell me they ran out of iced tea. They had tea bags, water, and ice, but somehow couldn't put those things together. I decided to just have a diet coke, as did 3 others in my party at that point. When they arrived, mine was in a wine glass for some reason (at this point, I thought I was being punked or something). I was told that they ran out of glasses because "they're busy", even though they were only about 70% full. Our desserts arrived, and my dessert share plate had a chunk of dried food on it about the size of a dime (on a small side plate mind you). I had to point it out to reluctantly get a replacement. Unsurprisingly, the Sacher cake was nothing like a Sacher tort, and the "blackberry wine confit" was just a berry compote. I asked the server how they made it and he said he'd bring over the chef "since I didn't want to see the bartender earlier, " mockingly. The chef described how he made the "confit"...... like a compote. He had no idea, just like calling sticky rice "rice pudding" and suggesting pork he served well done as "best made medium to medium rare" and calling a miscellaneous glob of sauce "Korean bbq." I'm not sure where he got his training, but incorrectly describing things on a menu is a recipe for disaster, just as my Tallulah experience was from the rude, poorly-dressed hostess to thankfully leaving.

My friends and I had a great time celebrating a new chapter at Tallulah. We sat and the bar and the bartender was exceptional! The pasta was delicious and the drink recommendations were spot on.
