Hidden Gem for Thai Food in NYC – Tam Mai This restaurant is tucked away up a tiny, unassuming staircase, but the moment you step inside, you’re transported straight to Thailand. The ambiance is warm and inviting, and the menu is packed with delicious options. Portions are generous, and the prices are very fair—especially the $15 lunch deal, which is an absolute steal. This has quickly become one of my favorite local spots. It feels like a true neighborhood secret, with hardly any tourists around. My go-to dishes are the green curry and pad see ew, both with tofu. They’re packed with flavor and always satisfying. I highly recommend them! The staff is incredibly kind and attentive (shout out to our server Tom!!), making the whole experience even better. If you’re looking for great Thai food in New York, I definitely recommend Tam Mai.

If you’re near 56th Street, definitely check out Tam Mai Thai! It’s a bit tucked away upstairs but absolutely worth the find. The food was so fresh and flavorful, we got the Pad See Ew and a bunch of other dishes, and everything was delicious with really generous portions. The service was also super friendly and quick. It felt like a nice little escape from the city noise to just relax and enjoy some great Thai food. Will definitely be back, and it’s also a solid option for takeout or delivery!

Update: I wanted to share that when I was finally able to connect with someone at the restaurant, they were incredibly thoughtful, understanding, and helpful. They took the time to listen, acknowledged the mistake, and resolved it with genuine kindness. It really meant a lot after what had been a frustrating situation. I have to say (the pad see ew was seriously delicious, and the crab rangoon hit the spot). Once we cleared up the issue, I was reminded why I liked coming here in the first place. Thank you to the staff for taking care of this and for the great food. 💛

Google
4.5 stars. Very tasty Thai and a good value. We enjoyed the Red Curry with shrimp and the Drunken Noodles with beef and tofu. Both dishes were very tasty. The shrimp and tofu were perfectly cooked. Pleasant and welcoming service. Small, cozy feel. A brown rice option would be nice to add.

Love the accommodations in the bathroom and environment with the rich earth tones and gold accent decor. The server Four made sure we were comfortable and the servers in general are very hospitable. The food? Wow !! This is my second time coming and this time I brought my family with me for my birthday 🎂 and they enjoyed all the food ( yes even my stingy dad loves it and wants others to know about it)

Had a great meal at Tam Mai Thai! The beef was tender and flavorful, definitely a highlight of the meal. The curry had a unique depth of flavor—rich, well-spiced, and truly memorable. The Thai milk tea was the most authentic I’ve ever had! Big thanks to Chef Krit and the team for their excellent cooking and warm hospitality. Looking forward to coming back!

The atmosphere here was extremely welcoming and the affordability of a large meal has me satisfied. I got the drunken noodles with the side salad. The waitress was also very considerate in making sure of any allergies when we ordered. Definitely coming again!

This unassuming Thai restaurant in the middle of Midtown was a great South East Asian treat for us. Located in the 2F but with signage outside, Tam Mai was a random find but so worth the risk! All hits, no misses! Get the: Massaman Curry, Tom Kha, Pad Thai!!! Service was also top notch with an attentive and friendly staff. Highly recommend this place! 🤤

Yelp
The most amazing Tom Kah soup in the city. Crab Rangoon is great too, as is the service.

Yelp
Near the MoMa, you can find this new spot with a menu where most dishes are under $20. In this economy, it's a steal. The service was excellent upon entering - shoutout to the staff member Eddy! The Thai Tea here is so pretty and only $5!The wings were grilled and juicy. The calamari was lightly fried and not chewy at all. The puffs were flaky and hot. And the rangoons were packed with a crabby creamy cheese filling! The curry was mildly spicy, and so creamy and coconuty. The fried rice had a whole crab omelette on top and fresh cucumber on the side. They also have Mango Sticky Rice here for only $10 and it was a classic way to end a Thai meal. It's small inside but very spacious at the same time. This used to be where Bengal Tiger was located!

Yelp
Cute new Thai spot that opened right near Central Park. We stopped by for lunch on the weekend and there were quite a few people there. We started off with the chicken wing appetizer, a little disappointing bc it seemed baked and just came with some Thai chili sauce on the side. Some wings also had a lot of hair on it. Fortunately the entrees made up for the wings. We had the pad kee mao and the south thai curry. The pad kee mao was very flavorful and came with a ton of basil, one of the better ones I've had in the city. The Thai curry was also flavorful. Staff were nice and attentive. They also have a grand opening special where you can pick a card and get a little discount or drink/app.

Yelp
My party of 2 visited on a Saturday around 12pm and were seated promptly. This restaurant is located on the second floor, so you need to take stairs up. It's a cozy space with a decent amount of seating. We ordered a couple and appetizers (crab rangoon & soft shell crab spring rolls) and entrees to try, as well as a Thai Iced Tea and Thai Iced Coffee, and mango sticky rice for dessert. The food and drinks came out relatively quick and the presentation was nice. The shrimp pad thai had a generous amount of shrimp and the noodles were nicely cooked and seasoned. The massaman curry here was different than ones I've had in the past, being less sweet and having more of a kick. + Lunch specials starting at $15 during the week.

Yelp
Went to this recently opened place with my son for lunch and we enjoyed it very much. The service, decor, and food were perfect. We had the papaya salad with anchovy dressing and soft shell crab summer rolls (special seasonal, appetizer) to start. Then we ordered Chicken in Garlic Sauce and Pad Se Ew with Chicken lunch specials which come with choice of Tum Yum Soup or spring rolls. We went with the soup and it was delightful. The lunch special portions are a little small but good for the diet. We will definitely be back! Highly recommend this gem. They even make their own green tea with toasted rice - very nice!

Yelp
I recently dined at Tam Mai Thai in Manhattan and had a great experience! I ordered the chicken drunken noodles, which were fresh and delicious. It had great flavor, a bit of a kick and I thoroughly enjoyed my meal. The Thai tea was very good as well. My only reason for not giving it 5 stars is that the portion size was a bit smaller than I expected. It was so good that I was actually considering ordering another serving The restaurant itself is small but nice, had a nice little bar area and the staff was very friendly. I would definitely recommend Tam Mai Thai for a good Thai cuisine.

Yelp
Delicious Tom Yum Soup and papaya salad (with lime dressing). Fresh, flavorful vegetables with everything. And very tasty hot teas!

Yelp
Tam Mai Thai is a beautiful and cozy Thai restaurant on the SECOND floor on 56th St, taking over the old Begal Tiger location. They just opened (Dec 2024) and the renovation is gorgeous. For $17 weekday lunch special, I got the pad kee mao (drunken noodles) with chicken, which came with a tom yum soup. The portion size is good and the quality of ingredients is solid, down to the green fried basil leaves on top of my dish. Service was great, very attentive and sweet. Since they just opened, there was zero wait for a table. Welcome to the neighborhood! Wishing you much success!

Yelp
This place is really good. I stopped in for the lunch special. I had the pad kee Mao, with a spring roll and Thai tea. Everything was delicious. Additionally, the decor is so cute, and the employees are incredibly warm and friendly. Excellent food and service.
